The church in Corinth had two problems: ranking and mistaking. They ranked each other by whose gift looked more important, and they mistook their own quieter gifts for having no gift at all. Both are pride. And pride in a church is what Tim Keller called the carbon dioxide of sin. You cannot see it or smell it, but it slowly kills the room.

In this message from 1 Corinthians 12:4-6, Pastor Alex Wilson walks through three truths about every spiritual gift: they are from God by grace, they are for others, and they are empowered by God, not by you. Jesus modeled all three. He is the gift we did not deserve, He came not to be served but to serve, and He said He could do nothing on His own accord.

Which means you have a place in the body of Christ that you did not earn and you cannot lose. So serve with everything you have. And if you feel like quitting right before you serve, that is the test: you are doing it in your own strength. The answer is not a sabbatical. The answer is rhythms of grace.

Question to sit with: What has God empowered you to do for others that you never would have done before Christ?

Why Church Matters | THE CALLED OUT ONES

1 Corinthians 11:17-34

Context: In the Corinthian house church, the meal came first and the Lord's Supper came last. The wealthy arrived early and ate their fill. The poor arrived after work and got the scraps. Their practice raised the question the whole passage answers: why do we gather?

An Orderly Life12 août 202600:37:30

Description

Alex Wilson preaches 1 Corinthians 11:2-16 at House Church Kauai.

Paul is not writing about fabric. He is writing about order, and he gives four reasons for it, arranged from most important to least: the character of God in the Trinity, the order of creation in Genesis 2, the connectedness of men and women who cannot exist without each other, and the customs of the first century.

The heart of the passage is that submission is not inferiority. The Son is fully equal in essence with the Father and willingly submits to Him. And Paul closes the door on abuse himself, because a man is now born of woman, and all things are from God.

This is where the Gospel meets the text. Christ submitted to the will of the Father and laid down His life for His bride, not to keep her down but to make her clean. That is what headship looks like when God defines it. And it means order was never given to steal joy. There is more joy in order than there is in chaos.

How to Not Fall Into Temptation28 juil. 202600:33:38

Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego got thrown into a furnace heated seven times hotter than normal, and someone showed up in there with them. Your idols will not do that. When the heat gets turned up in your life, look around for the thing you have been trusting. If you can’t find it, you just found your idol.

In this message from 1 Corinthians 10:1-13, we walk through why Paul warns the Corinthian church with the failures of Israel in the wilderness, the four things that made them fall, and why you cannot kill an idol by trying harder. Idols do not get defeated. They get replaced. And the only One with the right to that throne is Christ.

We also deal with the verse everybody quotes wrong. God never promised He would not give you more than you can bear. He promised He would not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, and that with the temptation He would provide the way out. Those are two very different promises.

How To Be Disciplined22 juil. 202600:44:48

Most churches teach that good Christians get extra crowns in heaven and lazy Christians barely make it in. That’s not in the Bible. And that teaching is quietly wrecking your walk with God.

In this sermon from our Maturity series, Alex breaks down 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 and shows why the race Paul describes is not about earning rewards. It’s about certainty. Jesus already ran your race. He already set the score. It’s signed and sealed in blood. So why run with discipline at all?

That’s the question this whole sermon answers.

In this episode:

* The “extra crowns” theology and where it falls apart

* Two-tier Christianity: why carnal Christians don’t exist

* What Paul actually means by “disqualified” (warning, not verdict)

* The already and the not yet: what you’re actually running toward

* Mike Tyson, cross country, and why certainty changes how you run

* 3 systems to build so you actually finish

You will trip. You will fall. But God is not recording your time. He’s waiting for you at the finish line.

Winning Others to Christ15 juil. 202600:28:16

Why do so many of our conversations about Jesus go nowhere? In 1 Corinthians 9:19-23, Paul says he became all things to all people so that by all means he might save some. But Paul was not a chameleon and he was not a compromiser. He followed the example of Christ, who confronted without condemning and connected without compromising.

In this message from our Maturity series at House Church Kauai, we look at how Jesus approached the woman at the well and Nicodemus, what it means to lay down your freedoms so others can see Christ clearly, and why the bruised reed and smoldering wick change everything about how God sees you when your faith feels weak.

Three practical takeaways: pull people up instead of letting them pull you down, know when to be silent and when to speak up, and stay fueled up so you have something to give.

God's Unquestionable Love29 juin 202600:25:49

You keep secretly asking the same question: does God actually love me? After the week you had?

In this message from our Maturity series, we’re in 1 Corinthians 9:1–14 — where Paul lays down his rights to be paid by the Corinthian church to show them a deeper kind of love. But the real point underneath it all is this: you don’t have to question God’s love for you.

Peter denied Jesus three times — even cussed out a little girl to do it. And days later, Jesus is on the beach cooking him breakfast, asking “Simon, do you love me?” Notice what Peter never asks back: “Do you love me?” Because Peter already knew. The same hands that formed Jupiter knelt down to wash dirty feet. The cross was never Plan B — it was Plan A. A rescue mission with your name on it.

If you’re learning how to lay down your rights — with your spouse, your boss, the people who wronged you — this one’s for you. Love builds up. Knowledge puffs up. Look at Christ. And if it’s still hard, look longer.

Endless Pursuit03 juin 202600:22:24

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow you all the days of your life. In this message from our Psalm 23 series, Pastor Alex Wilson unpacks what David meant when he said only goodness and mercy will pursue us. The Hebrew word for follow means to happily hunt. God does not chase you to harm you. He pursues you the way the Hound of Heaven pursues, unhurried and relentless, all the way to the cross. If you have ever felt too dirty or too far gone, this one is for you.

You don’t always feel safe following Jesus, but feeling safe and being safe are two different things. In this message from Psalm 23:5, we walk through 4 things God wants you to know so you can stop waiting on the cliff and jump: you’re fed, you’re gated, you’re anointed, and you’re quenched.

Walk by faith, not by feelings.

It's Just a Shadow19 mai 202600:20:52

In

Psalm 23:4, David shifts from talking *about* God to talking *to* God — and shows us how to walk through the darkest seasons of life without fear. Pastor Alex Wilson teaches that death hit Jesus on the cross so that for the believer, what's left is only a shadow. Whether you're in a season of grief, anxiety, broken relationships, financial stress, or spiritual darkness, this message will remind you that our God is not distant. He is the God of the valley — the One who steps off the mountain and walks with His sheep through every shadow.Topics covered:- Why Christianity is not a prosperity gospel- The omnipresence of God in dark seasons- The meaning of the shepherd's rod and staff- How the cross changes the way God deals with us- Why God *wants* to be with you in the mess—House Church Kauai is a family-integrated church gathering in a garage on Kauai, Hawaii and Pastor by Alex Wilson of AMEN PODCAST. How to Actually Rest06 mai 202600:10:13

You’re not resting because you’re hungry, hunted, anxious, or afraid — and you can’t fix any of those on your own.

In part two of our series through Psalm 23, we slow down on a single line: “He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.” Drawing from Philip Keller’s A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23, we look at the four things a sheep needs before it will lie down — food, freedom from foes, freedom from flies, and freedom from fear — and how each one points us straight to Christ.

We’ll talk about why sheep can’t find pasture on their own, why Jesus called Himself “the door of the sheep” in John 10, and what the nose botfly has to do with the anxieties you didn’t ask for and can’t shake. We’ll see how Hebrews 2:14–15 promises freedom from the fear of death, and why rest isn’t something you achieve — it’s somewhere the Shepherd leads you.

On the cross, Jesus entered our unrest so we could enter His rest. If you’re tired, this one’s for you.

How to Lack Nothing | Alex Wilson30 avr. 202600:16:17

The Lord is My Shepherd, I Shall Not Want | Psalm 23:1 | How to Lack Nothing

Welcome back to House Church. Today we’re starting a brand new series walking verse-by-verse through Psalm 23, the most well-known passage in all of Scripture. In this opening message, Pastor Alex unpacks Psalm 23:1 and gives you four steps to lacking nothing.

We live in a generation that is constantly scrolling, comparing, and chasing more. But David says something radical: “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.” How do we get to a place where we can honestly say we have all that we need?

In this sermon, you’ll learn:

* Realize you are a sheep (Isaiah 53:6)

* Fear the Lord (Psalm 34:9, Proverbs 1:7)

* Deny deficiency (Genesis 48:15-16)

* Rest on Him (Luke 15:5)

You’ll also discover why God, the most powerful being in all creation, refers to Himself as a Shepherd, the lowest job in ancient society. Spoiler: He’s powerful, He’s personal, and He’s present.

If you’ve ever felt like you’re lacking something, that everyone else has what you don’t, or that God has somehow forgotten about you, this message is for you.

You didn’t pick Jesus. He picked you. In this final sermon from our Matthew series at House Church Kauai, Pastor Alex preaches through the Great Commission — Matthew 28:16-20 — and unpacks why making disciples isn’t optional, what it actually looks like in your everyday life, and how the authority of Christ and His constant presence change everything.

If you’ve ever felt unqualified to disciple someone, this one’s for you.

📖 Passage: Matthew 28:16-20 ⛪️ Location: House Church Kauai (South Shore) 🎙️ Podcast: Amen Podcast — verse-by-verse through Matthew

In this message:

* Why we need to make disciples (the authority of Christ)

* What “go, baptize, teach” actually means for your daily life

The YOU God Saved You From14 avr. 202600:30:21

What did God save you from? Most Christians think about sin or hell — but Matthew 28 reveals something deeper: God saved you from yourself. In this sermon from House Church Kauai, we walk through the final cover-up in Matthew’s Gospel and discover three things that characterize every human life outside of Christ — decay, deception, and destruction — and the three things God replaces them with: growth, justification, and glorification. Whether you grew up in church or far from it, this message is for you. You are part of the “some.” And that changes everything.

New Creation17 févr. 202600:28:15

What happened between 12pm and 3pm on the day Jesus died? It wasn't random. It was the most important three hours in all of human history — and most Christians don't fully understand what was happening in that darkness.

In this sermon from Matthew 27:45, Pastor Alex walks through penal substitutionary atonement, why darkness fell over the land, and what it actually means that Jesus died as you — not just for you.

If you've ever wondered whether God turns away from you when you sin, this message will change the way you see Jesus forever.
