Hypermobility with Taylor Goldberg22 Jul 202400:58:46

In this episode, I am joined by Taylor Goldberg to discuss all things hypermobility. This is a diagnosis that I have seen in an increasing number of clients, so I’m excited to have Taylor on and educate more on the topic. We previously discussed hypermobility in the two MCAS episodes with Michelle Shapiro. I’ll link them below!

Taylor is a Chiropractor-turned Virtual Hypermobility Coach who helps people struggling with hypermobility (and related conditions) navigate the newness and unknowns of HSD/hEDS, enabling them to understand their body's unique needs and regain a fulfilling life. In addition to assisting clients with hypermobility, she recently launched a course aimed at helping clinicians better understand how to assist their hypermobile patients. Taylor possesses a unique perspective rooted in her education and personal experiences with hypermobility, which has driven her to initiate changes not only within the hypermobility community but also within the chiropractic field. She recently introduced a mentorship program called 'Clinical Concepts,' where they delve into the drawbacks of one-size-fits-all chiropractic practices and underscore the significance of an evidence-based approach to treatment and self-care.

This episode covers:

  • Taylor's journey from her background as a chiropractor to pivoting to be a hypermobility coach
  • What is hypermobility and it impacts our health
  • How MCAS impacts hypermobility
  • Taylor's approach to supporting individuals with hypermobility thrive, including tracking flares and lab testing
  • Advice for finding an exercise routine, including what to be careful with
  • Actionable tips to support your hypermobility daily

In this episode, I am interviewing Michelle Shapiro, an integrative functional registered dietitian who's going to unravel the confusion that often surrounds reflux treatment. Michelle also cautions about supplements and touches on the complex relationship between pregnancy, hiatal hernias, and how managing stress and histamine levels plays a vital role in your health.

If you've ever wondered about the connection between stress, your thyroid, and the importance of listening to your body – you won't want to miss this episode. We also have a special Q&A waiting for you over at patreon.com/hormonehealingrd.

How To Assess Stress On An HTMA13 Nov 202300:28:06

In this episode, I am covering how to use hair tissue mineral analysis or HTMA to assess your stress. This is one of the most valuable parts of the test, in my opinion. You get to understand what stage of stress you are in and why you may or may not be handling stress well. For most people, it is a big eye opener and something that can finally lead to confronting your stress and making lifestyle changes. If you are interested in how you can learn more about your thyroid from an HTMA, please listen to the previous episode where I covered this in detail.

As always, this episode is for informational purposes only. Please talk with your healthcare provider before making any changes.

This episode covers:

  • The difference between high and low mineral levels
  • Three stages of stress and how to identify them on an HTMA
  • How sodium and magnesium levels are helpful for understanding your stress
  • Two key ratios, and what a high or low ratio means on an HTMA

Fatigue Case Study23 Oct 202300:39:22

In this episode, we are wrapping up our case study series with a case study focusing on fatigue. Our third case is of a previous course student and 1:1 client, Taylor. This case study is shared with permission. We did change her name and a few details to protect her privacy.

As always, this episode is for informational purposes only. Please talk with your healthcare provider before making any nutrition or lifestyle changes.

Taylor came to us with extreme fatigue (and I mean extreme) and a slew of other symptoms that were very concerning to her. She started out in the Master Your Minerals course and then did a results review with me. She discovered she had very low mineral levels and was as depleted as she felt. After making some hard life decisions and prioritizing her health, she regained the energy she lost and started to feel like herself again.

This episode covers:

  • Her main concerns and symptoms, including what she had previously tried
  • Taylor's stress timeline, what she was doing well, and where we decided to focus
  • Her HTMA results and the very few additional interventions we added as a result
  • Taylor's healing ups and downs over the next seven months

Gut Health Case Study16 Oct 202300:50:29

We have our second case study this week focusing on a gut health case. Erin is joining me again to help break it all down for you. We went through a thyroid case last week, so if that’s of interest to you, make sure you listen to the previous episode as well.

We will wrap up the case study series with a final review of a client that struggled with fatigue and energy issues next week.

Our second case is of a previous course student and 1:1 client, Jenna. I reached out to her to ask if we could share her story since I think many people will relate. We did change her name, but all other details are accurate.

Jenna’s main concerns were not necessarily digestive symptoms, but many things came back to the poor health of her gut, which is why we chose her for this case. Her main concerns were headaches/migraines around her cycle, acne, hair loss, and recurrent UTI’s and yeast infections. She did an HTMA through the Master Your Minerals course and had very high copper and calcium. It freaked her out and she wanted additional guidance so she got 1:1 support through a results review and then became a 1:1 client to work deeper on healing her gut after rebalancing her copper levels. This allowed her to reduce her acne, headaches/migraines, and get rid of the recurrent infections she was dealing with. And most importantly to her, finally put a stop to her hair loss.

This episode covers:

  • Jenna's main concerns and symptoms, including what she had previously tried
  • Create her stress timeline, determine what she was doing well, and where to focus
  • Three phases of interventions based on her HTMA results
  • Jenna's healing results in the months following

Thyroid Case Study09 Oct 202300:54:43

We have our first case study this week and joining me to break it all down for you is one of my clinical nutritionists, Erin. We will be covering a thyroid case this week since that’s what my patrons wanted the most and then next week we will dig into a digestive/gut health case. We will wrap up the case study series with a final review of a client that struggled with fatigue and energy issues.

Our first case is of a previous course student and 1:1 client, Tina. I reached out to her to ask if we could share her story since I think many people will relate. We did change her name, but all other details are accurate.

Tina’s main concern was thyroid health and specifically, Hashimoto’s. She did an HTMA through the course and noticed her calcium was really high. When she got 1:1 support we worked on rebalancing calcium through her nutrition and lifestyle primarily, as stress was a big part of her high calcium. This gave her the energy she was looking for and greatly reduced her thyroid antibodies since high calcium can slow down our metabolism and impact all systems in the body.

This episode covers:

  • Tina's main concerns and symptoms, including what she had previously tried
  • Create her stress timeline and determine foundational interventions
  • Her HTMA lab testing results
  • Additional interventions based on her HTMA results
  • Tina's healing ups and downs

How To Thrive During Menopause25 Sep 202300:52:15

In this episode, I am focusing on an important topic that has been heavily requested, menopause! When I think about how to thrive during menopause and set yourself up for success, I think of four main areas: thyroid, stress, nutrition, and our daily habits. If you’ve already gone through menopause, I just want to say it’s never too late to work on the things I cover today. Also, if you did a lot of work and feel like you’ve tried all the things but are still really struggling through menopause, I know that can be really hard, but making nutrition and lifestyle changes is still supporting your long term health. It’s easy to forget that everything we’ve done our entire lives is going to impact our menopausal experience. When we’ve lived a certain way for a long time it can take time to undo a lot of that dysfunction. Be patient and know you are still doing really good things for your body and future health.

As always, this episode is for informational purposes only. Please talk with your healthcare provider before making nutrition, lifestyle, or supplement changes.

This episode covers:

  • How suboptimal thyroid function leads to symptoms experienced during menopause
  • Recommendations to reduce stressors
  • Tips for supporting a healthy stress response
  • Three nutrition tips for menopausal women
  • Daily habits to support your body through menopause

How To Naturally Detox14 Aug 202300:45:53

While the internet would have you believe that you need a supplement or cleanse to support your body’s detox pathways, our bodies detoxify daily on their own. We can absolutely have difficulty with certain organs that can negatively impact our ability to detox, but you might be surprised at what will actually help you detox better. No, it’s not milk thistle. While I do love this herb, there’s a lot more to supporting liver detoxification and detoxification in general than just taking a supplement. If you want to learn more about specific foods and supplements that can support detoxification once you have the foundations in place, join patreon.com/hormonehealingrd to get access to this week’s bonus episode where I dive different options for detox support depending on what you have going on.

As always, this podcast episode is not medical advice. Please talk with your provider before making any changes to your nutrition, lifestyle, or supplements.

This episode covers:

  • How our bodies detox on their own
  • Signs and symptoms of poor detoxification
  • Four areas that can hinder detoxification
  • How to support and enhance your liver and natural detoxification

How To Have Healthy Digestion07 Aug 202300:37:52

As we continue to work through the foundations for season 5, we have an important topic this week: digestion! Many women struggle with their digestion whether that be bloating, constipation, loose stools, reflux, etc. A lot of our digestive struggles come back to our body’s inability to produce optimal digestive juices and enzymes because a lot of us are living in a constantly stressed state or have lived in one in the past.

In this episode, I am going to break down exactly how our bodies digest our food and how you can support your own digestion right now at home. If you want to learn more about how to specifically support constipation and loose stools, make sure you join my Patreon at patreon.com/hormonehealingrd. I go into specific things you can do for those two digestive issues in the bonus episode.

As always, this podcast episode is not medical advice. Please talk with your provider before making any changes to your nutrition, lifestyle, or supplements.

This episode covers:

  • How our body digests food
  • Tapping into your vagus nerve for relaxation
  • How digestive bitters work to support digestion and overall gut health
  • Benefits of apple cider vinegar on digestion and overall health

Can Supplements Harm Your Health?31 Jul 202300:48:08

Supplements are so common these days that it’s easy to forget just how powerful they are. You can go to the grocery store, pharmacy, and most prominently, online to find just about anything you need. I think it’s great that access to supplements is so widely available, but the downside to supplements being so readily available is that they are often taken without as much consideration. Because we can add them to our cart so easily, we may not realize that they could cause more harm than good depending on the supplement and the person.

Again, supplements are powerful, they are an amazing resource to have, but my goal with this episode is to teach you how to analyze supplements that you’re interested in or that are being marketed to you and know go through a series of questions to have an idea of whether or not they are a good fit for you.

I have a bonus episode this week inside Patreon that takes this a step further and highlights certain conditions and supplements that CAN be helpful. You can join my patreon community at patreon.com/hormonehealingrd

As always this is not medical advice. I’m a dietitian but I’m not your dietitian so please talk with your medical provider before making any changes.

This episode covers:

  • Supplements & the influencer era
  • Questions to ask yourself when considering a supplement
  • Commonly recommended supplements that could cause more harm than good

Mineral Testing06 Mar 202301:03:51

Welcome to season 4 of the podcast! This season we are focusing on minerals. How to test them, what the different minerals do in our bodies, how they impact our hormones and overall health as well as other systems of the body.

We also have some exciting podcast updates. You heard me mention a podcast Patreon in the introduction. You may be thinking, what patreon? The AYM podcast patreon is new! I started it in February as a way to bring the podcast community together and provide more resources to support listeners on their healing journeys. You will still get your weekly episode of the podcast, but it will be a bit shorter (hopefully) and easier to digest.

Each week, patrons get a bonus episode of the podcast along with downloadable resources. For example, in this episode I’m focusing on how to test minerals and what different types of tests tell you.  The bonus episode is a results review of a hair test and blood work to help bring all the principles of the episode together. The downloadable resource is a PDF of the main principles of mineral testing and lab testing resources.

When the podcast isn’t in season, I am creating content based off monthly surveys to ensure I’m giving members the resources they need. This tier is $10. I also have an exclusive tier that is $20 a month and allows you to submit a voicemail question that I answer during a pre-recorded Q&A. Visit patreon.com/hormonehealingrd to learn more and become a patron!

Histamine Intolerance 10117 Oct 202200:54:28

In this episode, I am breaking down a popular topic in the wellness world: histamines! I get a lot of questions about histamine intolerance and if people should cut out x, y, z foods. As usual, I don’t recommend going straight to cutting out foods. Can that help in the short term with symptoms? Yes, but it’s not getting to the root of the issue. This doesn’t mean you can’t cut out certain things that are causing you discomfort to get some relief, but hopefully this podcast episode will inspire you to work on other areas as well.

Gallbladder Health & Your Hormones with Olivia Haas10 Oct 202201:08:44

In this episode, we are focusing on the gallbladder and how not only can it impact your hormones but how hormonal changes can impact your gallbladder function as well. I have Olivia Haas also known as the Gallbladder Nutritionist on Instagram with me today to dive deep into this topic. Olivia is a board certified nutritionist specializing in all things gallbladder health. Her personal journey with digestive issues, hypothyroidism and gallbladder disease is what has led her to start her private practice helping individuals who are trying to keep their gallbladder or people struggling with digestive issues after gallbladder surgery.

Along her way, she realized there was a lack of education regarding this condition, what caused it, how diet and lifestyle impact this disease and how to best support the body without a gallbladder. Through her experience she grew a passion to help other individuals with gallbladder disease feel supported, gain nutrition clarity and help teach them how to be advocates for their health. Olivia takes a root cause approach with her clients. She looks beyond the gallbladder to bring the body back into balance and helps clients create sustainable, long term healthy habits every step of their gallbladder journey.

Nothing Boring About Boron03 Oct 202200:50:18

In this episode, I am doing a mineral deep dive on boron. A lot of people are familiar with boron because of its positive impact on bone health and vitamin D, but it actually has a pretty big impact on our hormones and inflammation too. I hope you enjoy this format. Please share this episode in your stories on Instagram and tag me @hormonehealingrd to let me know you enjoyed it!

Breastfeeding with Therese Dansby26 Sep 202201:07:41

In this episode we are focusing on all things related to breastfeeding and what new moms can expect in the fourth trimester with registered nurse and IBCLC, Therese Dansby. Therese received her Bachelor's Degree in Science and became a Registered Nurse in 2007. She was a Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU) nurse for the first 8 years of her career. After brief stints working in high risk OB and then in a low-risk birth center and completing half of a Master's degree with the intent of becoming a Certified Nurse Midwife, she instead became an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant in 2015 after overcoming several feeding obstacles with her first baby. She is now a homeschooling mom of 3, with kids' ages ranging from 8 years to 8 months, and has left the hospital to continue building her own lactation consultation private practice.

Therese and Cortney have since released their Nourished Beginnings breastfeeding and postpartum course. Podcast listeners can enter code AYM10 for a 10% discount!

Our Birth Story12 Sep 202201:01:04

In this episode, I am joined by my husband to share our daughter’s birth story. I posted a question box in my Instagram stories a while back, so we will be covering a lot of topics from what we did for labor prep, how I managed pain, lots of questions on homebirth, and the birth process in general. I also got some questions for partners that my husband shares his perspective on. I hope you enjoy this episode!
