Kristin joined Wentworth Senior Living in 2001 first as a Resident Assistant. A few years later she briefly relocated to Pennsylvania but returned to WSL in 2010, and has since held positions as an LNA, Health Resources Coordinator, and Senior Operations Manager. Most recently as Director of Resident Services, she manages facilities, housekeeping, transportation, dining services, and operations in addition to the WSL Safety Program.

She was inspired by her mother and grandmother who were both nurses. Kristin is always ready to help others and does so with a smile on her face. She is a great asset to the WSL team.

What Does Schema Look Like on Your Home Care Website?

Hey, everybody. I wanted to give you a chance to see something that nobody else is ever probably going to show you about your website, but I’m going to show you today, and this has to do with how Google sees your home care website. Google doesn’t see all the pretty stuff on the front that we always look at. They see this. This is what Google… Google is just a computer, right? And Google is a relational database. So all of this gobbledygook right here is what Google sees, and if this gobbledygook is wrong or if there’s not enough information there, then Google’s like, “Whatevs,” but if there’s a lot of information and everything is connected on the inside of your website and everything is coded correctly, this is what Google sees. So I want to show you a couple of things. This is called schema code. So I don’t know if I can… Let’s see. Okay. So schema code… I know. This is all crazy Greek stuff, but schema code starts somewhere in here and it goes on and on throughout. This is just the homepage of this website.

If you do not have access or ownership of your Google My Business listing, which is your directory listing on Google, you need to have it. I recommend to all of our clients that if they are not a franchise, typically if you’re a home care or senior care franchise of some kind, the franchisor will control your Google My Business listing.

Hey everybody. This is Valerie and we are live on our Facebook page and in our group here at Home Care Marketing Online. And today, our class is about TikTok, which a lot of you are probably thinking to yourself, “No way, lady. I am not getting involved.” I thought the same thing, and in fact, I’m not a Snapchatter. I am barely an Instagram person. Ugh. I’m not a big fan of Instagram. I don’t know, it’s just a lot of work. But, I am fascinated with TikTok. And what I’ve learned is that not only are there a lot of age-appropriate things for all of us who do not care about TikTok stitches or dances or talking about our personal lives, there are so many not only funny things for, I’m 50 years old to give you some context, and there are some hysterical things that make me laugh and make me addicted to TikTok. It is insane.

There are lots of people on TikTok doing medical kinds of TikToks, and some of them are funny and some of them are parodies of stuff that happens in the medical world, but some of them are very serious and very informative and very educational and they’re awesome. And so, I know that this is a platform that you all and I, which let me just tell you right now, I have not mastered this, but I can tell you that I can use this to my advantage and you can use this to your advantage. And there are lots of different ways to do this. So, what I’m going to show you is, and this isn’t going to be a long class. This is sort of going to be a part oner, I believe. I do an in-depth care assessment to understand the care needs and then I hand pick two to four options that I think would be a good choice for the family and I provide the family with detailed fact sheets on each of the options. I check the state care and violation reports to be sure that I’m only recommending safe options and then I send the care assessment to the care homes or communities to make sure that the client is the right fit for the home or community. I then tour with my families, either live these days or sometimes still virtually via Zoom. I follow up 2, 7, and 30 days after move in to be sure all is going as planned. We currently have two locations, one in Charlotte, North Carolina, the other in Rock Hill, South Carolina. We’ve had the privilege of serving our communities for the last 13 years, assisting them with bathing, dressing, meal preparation, light housekeeping, transportation, medication management, respite for the family, just to give them a little break. So pretty much anything inside of the home or pretty much any residence or facility that they’re in, we can come in and provide care.

When the producers of an amazing new documentary called “Alive Inside” loaded a clip from their film to YouTube, they weren’t prepared for the response. It quickly attracted more than 6 million views and stunned viewers with its heart-warming video of an elderly man with dementia coming alive when the music of his youth is played for him. 

“Alive Inside” profiles seven elderly people suffering from dementia and shows the transformation that occurs when they’re given iPods loaded with their favorite songs from years ago. 

Dan Cohen is the Executive Director of Music and Memory, the iPod Project, and he started it in 2006 when he was a social worker. He says it occurred to him to reach out to long-term facilities and ask who was using iPods. He discovered none were. Music is such an integral part of recreation in nursing homes but given limited resources in this country, long-term care facilities are forced to focus on group activities rather than individual interests, Dan says. 

He launched this project to get iPods into nursing homes because he realized if he himself was in one, he’d want to hear the music that appealed specifically to him, not the entire group. 

And he was amazed by the reaction from the patients. 

He explains how music is able to tap into people’s long-term memories. Even those people who no longer recognize their families suddenly become talkative and animated when they listen to the songs they listened to when they were young. He says no matter how ravaged someone’s brain is by Alzheimer’s or dementia, many people respond to the music because what we listen to in our youth gets so heavily imprinted on our brains.
