mardi 10 février 2026Duration 02:02:58

Welcome back to Hit My Music. For the second episode of the all new format, I asked Chris Decker and Matt Deuerlein to join me for a draft of one of my favorite genres of music: Third Wave Ska. We talk about some of our favorite bands, concert experiences, and some of what we love about this sound that exploded in the late 90s.

Episode 10 - Hallowicked

Episode 12

jeudi 6 janvier 2022Duration 01:00:58

Thanks so much for downloading this episode of Hit My Music. My guest this week is none other than the Broadsword of Nazmaldun himself, Hallowicked. He graciously allowed me, the one known as Swinetooth, to interview him about all things music.

In our conversation, we talk about the magical properties of music, and those who make it. We talk about music that makes the best soundtrack for chasing down campers, and the post-chase relaxation. We talk about boom boxes being left in the woods of Sleepy Hollow, and the bonus uses of D batteries. We also talk about heavy nonsense, and authoritarian garbage.

In the second half of the show, we go through the entrance themes that Hallowicked has used throughout the years, which leads to discussions of theme songs that Eddie Kingston hates, wrestlers who buy a lot of movie soundtracks, and Hallowicked gives his thoughts on the late Larry Sweeney.

Episode 9 - Shane Hagadorn

Episode 11

jeudi 23 décembre 2021Duration 01:14:42

As always, thanks for listening to Hit My Music. This week, my guest is former ROH wrestler and manager, Shane Hagadorn. Listen in, as we chat about his varied musical history, and discover that we have a lot in common musically. Later, we talk about finding the right song for a character after using a "wrong" song, checking off a bucket list item in the world of wrestling, finding himself and his character, and we trace the entrance themes that Shane has used throughout his career, including a theme that would be created in part by a future colleague of his.   If you'd like to support the show, and get these episodes early, please consider signing up for my Patreon.   Find Shane in the following places: Twitter Instagram An Honorable Mention

Episode 8 - Daniel Makabe

Episode 10

jeudi 9 décembre 2021Duration 01:34:30

Episode 7 was a wild one. In a completely different way, episode 8 is just as wild. My guest this week is The Wrestling Genius, Daniel Makabe. He doesn't have the manic energy of Wes Barkley, but he does have an eclectic taste, and quite a musical journey. Whether it's starting out listening to Aerosmith, starting a Neutral Milk Hotel cover band, or making his own original music in multiple projects, Daniel certainly covers a lot of ground, musically.

In this conversation, we talk about a variety of topics, including the CanCon law in Canada, getting bands to play covers they weren't planning to play, and ill fated co-headlining tours...when you were really only there to see the opening act.

You can find Daniel all over the internet. Check him and his music out in the following places:

Episode 7 - Wes Barkley

Episode 9

jeudi 25 novembre 2021Duration 54:15

Y’all...you’re not ready for this week’s episode. If you have a tendency to listen to podcasts at an increased speed, you’re probably going to want to fix that this week. My guest this week is Wes Barkley, and if you’re familiar with him from the world of independent wrestling, then you know that he is one of the best talkers in the game today. He’s also an interesting fan of music. In this conversation, we talk about being introduced to music and...ahem...ways to get music for free by babysitters, and how those babysitters would breakdance to Vanilla Ice. We also go into tangents about bedroom posters, learning to play guitar, Tiger Woods’ dad, and a career playing bocce. We also talk about playing mind games, and getting blocked by Dylan Postl.   Thanks for downloading! If you'd like to get these episodes early, along with the curated companion playlist, check out my Patreon.   Wes Barkley on Twitter   Note: We recorded this episode in August, and a lot of things have happened in the lives of the Rip City Shooters since then. Just something to keep in mind.

Episode 6 - Dr. Ethan Wilde, Ph. D.

Episode 8

jeudi 11 novembre 2021Duration 01:13:56

Welcome back to Hit My Music. This week, my guest is an academic. A man of learning. A man of high standards. Welcome to the show, Dr. Ethan Wilde, Ph.D.    Dr. Wilde is primarily associated with the goings on at Camp Leapfrog, where he is currently the Camp Athletic Commissioner. Despite his reputation from Camp Leapfrog, I found that Dr. Wilde was a delight to talk to. He has an extensive personal history with music, and we delve into such topics as where his love of vinyl records comes from, which character from A Song of Ice and Fire Mick Mars reminds him of, poison pills in a road trip playlist, and bench press PR songs. We also talk about his use of a harpsichord concerto as entrance music, but we also talk about his dalliance with Yacht Rock.   Thank you for listening, and if you'd like to get these episodes early, as well as a companion playlist, consider signing up for my Patreon.   Find Dr. Ethan Wilde on Twitter Camp Leapfrog on IWTV

Episode 5 - Danger Dean

Episode 7

jeudi 28 octobre 2021Duration 52:45

It's time again for another episode of Hit My Music. This week, my guest is from my neck of the woods. Danger Dean grew up in Colorado, and started his wrestling career here. He recently moved to Washington State, and has been starting to make his name there as well, in addition to occasionally returning to the Denver area to compete.   In addition to being a professional wrestler, Danger Dean has a career as a radio personality. He spent a lot of years working for 98.9 FM in Colorado Springs, so I thought he would be a fun guest to have on to talk about music, both in and out of wrestling. And I wasn't wrong.   This was a very fun conversation, and we talk about everything from ICP to the golden oldies. We talk about how radio led to his entry into professional wrestling, and how excited he was for his first match to be for a championship. His entrance themes have run a bit of a gamut that leads from Powerman 5000 to Kenny Loggins (sort of), and we even hear some stock music, and there's a very special appearance by a dream guest of this show...or, his guitar, at least.   If you'd like to get these episodes early, as well as a companion playlist, consider signing up for my Patreon.   Find Danger Dean on Twitter Find Danger Dean on Instagram Danger Dean vs Kikutaro on YouTube

Episode 4 - Sue Jackson

Episode 6

jeudi 14 octobre 2021Duration 59:43

This week on Hit My Music, my guest is Sue Jackson. We start off talking about the two cassettes that his mother kept in her car, which formed his musical base. From there we talk about growing up in the early 90s, discovering grunge and hip hop, finding bands with instrumenting instrumentation choices, and the stigma of being a late 90s teen boy who liked boy bands, which evolves into a discussion of favorite *NSync members.

In the second half of the show, we talk about the effectiveness of the Ultimate Warrior in bringing kids to wrestling, his different entrance themes, and his dream entrance theme. Along the way we talk about the un-suitability of "A Boy Named Sue" for an entrance, no matter how "obvious" it may seem, using one's trainer's theme in representing them, and double stomps to the back of the head...ouch.

Thanks for listening! If you'd like to get these episodes early, you can check out my Patreon.

Episode 3 - Travis Huckabee

Episode 5

jeudi 30 septembre 2021Duration 52:25

This week on Hit My Music, I am joined by Travis Huckabee. The Golden Grappler takes us through his musical life, from listening to Dr. Demento tapes with his dad to what music had been playing at the Crossfit gym he coaches at the week we recorded this show. Along the way, we talk about Orange Cassidy wanting to see 3OH!3, walking around the 2018 Warped Tour in wrestling trunks, Cowboy Thursday, and learning to flamenco strum the guitar.   In the second half of the show, we concentrate on wrestling in music. There's discussion of favorite entrance themes, and what wrestling themes are on his gym playlists. We talk about what makes a good entrance theme. And we also dive into Travis' wrestling entrance themes. We start with the early struggles with his theme songs (if you're familiar with the early portion of his career, you know what I'm talking about). From there, we talk about trying to get a theme song for the Rumblebees, in an effort to ditch the first theme, the trouble with trying to communicate with sound people, and commissioning a custom theme...now with 100% more Nicolas Cage.   Thank you for subscribing to the Patreon. I really appreciate your support!   Links:   Follow Travis on Twitter    Follow Travis on Instagram    Search Huckabee on IWTV
