| King Charles II's Illegitimate Children | 08 avr. 2025 | 00:32:45 | |
Charles II, King of England, Scotland & Ireland from 1660 to 1685 is one of the most notorious lotharios in history. He loved the ladies and took both noble women and commoner actresses to bed, sometimes multiple times a day. And the ladies were certainly up for it. In addition to enjoying the charming sovereign’s company, they also enjoyed the gifts, estates, and noble titles he lavished upon them and their children. Last week we met Charles’s 14 known mistresses. Today we’ll meet the results of all that sensual behavior, the King’s 13 recognized illegitimate children. To his sons he granted Dukedoms and Earldoms and for his daughters he arranged marriages to the wealthiest noble bachelors. The King personally populated a new generation of English peers. But despite his lusty libido, Charles didn’t have a single legitimate child to inherit his throne. When he died and his unpopular brother became King James II many in the nation looked to his eldest illegitimate son as a possible alternative monarch and rebellion ensued. Let’s meet King Charles II’s 13 Illegitimate Children...
James Scott, Duke of Monmouth
Charlotte FitzRoy, Countess of Yarmouth
Charles FitzCharles, Earl of Plymouth
Catherine FitzCharles
Anne Palmer, Countess of Sussex
Charles FitzRoy, Duke of Cleveland
Henry FitzRoy, Duke of Grafton
Charlotte Lee, Countess of Lichfield
George FitzRoy, Duke of Northumberland
Charles Beauclerk, Duke of St Albans
James Beauclerk
Charles Lennox, Duke of Richmond
Mary Tudor, Countess of Derwentwater

| Disney Doppelgängers, Part 2 | 25 mars 2025 | 00:34:52 | |
I have been enchanted by Disney since childhood. And as an adult, whenever I’m watching any movie or TV show, I can’t help but play “Where do I know that actor from?” Thank you, IMDB for making my adult life that little bit easier. One of my first forays into content creation, way back in 2014 was a series I made called “Disney Doppelgangers” where I compare two or more famous animated Disney characters who are voiced by or modeled after the same actor. Alice and Wendy; the Queen of Hearts & Fairy Godmother; Baloo and Little John and many more! I still love this series and often recommend it to Kids who are interested in checking out my work. So without further adieu, please enjoy this collection of my 15 short Disney Doppelganger episodes!

| Grace O'Malley, Irish Pirate Queen | 11 mars 2025 | 00:28:51 | |
Gráinne Ní Mháille known as Grace O’Malley in English was raised aboard her father’s ships. Her charisma then won her the loyalty of her husband’s men. Together they traded and marauded the rouged west coast of Ireland. They feuded with other clans until the English came to take over the nation. Gráinne and her English nemesis nearly destroyed each other until she went over his head and met directly with Queen Elizabeth I to get a royal sanctioned piracy license.

| Royal Yacht Britannia | 04 mars 2025 | 00:32:33 | |
When Queen Elizabeth II and her family went on vacation, they didn’t fly coach or take a carnival cruise. They traveled in style aboard Her Majesty’s Yacht Britannia. The Queen designed the ship herself the year of her coronation. This was her favorite place to be, where she could truly unwind. I recently had the opportunity to tour this historic yacht in Edinburgh, Scotland. And to talk with the Yotties who served the Queen while she traveled the world. Let’s explore this floating time capsule, learn how it functioned, find out where the royals visited, what they ate, how they slept and relaxed. I’ll dish on the four honeymoons which took place on board, and we’ll be treated to an intimate glimpse of the British royal family at their most relaxed, while on vacation!

| Leeds Castle: Ladies' Castle of England | 25 févr. 2025 | 00:31:19 | |
Leeds Castle has been called the loveliest castle in England and it certainly lives up to the name. The elegant stone keep, towers, and crenelated battlements surrounded by a tranquil moat, beautiful gardens and lush parkland are exactly what you would picture as an idealized medieval castle. Across the centuries, it has often been strong women who have owned, enjoyed, renovated and defended Leeds castle. It was the tranquil retreat for generations of medieval Queens, the scene of a deadly stand-off between great ladies, a prison for two accused royal witches, and a luxurious playground for aristocrats and Hollywood stars. I have fond memories of coming her as a child, and I’m excited to be back. So come with me as we explore this tranquil castle and it’s scandalous history!
Queen Eleanor of Castile
Queen Margaret of France
Queen Isabella of France
Queen Anne of Bohemia
Queen Joan of Navarre
Queen Catherine of Valois
Eleanor, Duchess of Gloucester
Queen Catherine of Aragon
Olive, Lady Baillie
Leeds Castle did not comp my stay, so this is not a paid promotion. I just love this Castle!

| 4 Living Former Monarchs whose Thrones were Abolished | 18 févr. 2025 | 00:27:48 | |
In the last episode we met 7 living former monarchs who chose to retire, hand their thrones to their children and enjoy their golden years. But not all living former monarchs chose to get off the throne, some were pushed off. In the 20th century, 28 national-level monarchies across the world were abolished. Their former sovereigns were downgraded, exiled or even executed. As the majority of these revolutions and coups happened in the first half of the century, few ex monarchs are still alive today. Their children and grandchildren carry on defunct royal dynastic lines and, if they’re lucky, enjoy what’s left of their ancestors’ glory, palaces, and fortunes. Today there are only 4 living former monarchs who lost their thrones when their monarchies were abolished. All of their reigns ended and one began in bloodshed. And one managed to return to his former Kingdom and be democratically elected Prime minister. Let’s meet them!
Jamshid bin Abdullah, Former Sultan of Zanzibar
Simeon II, Former Tsar of Bulgaria
Gyanendra, Former King of Nepal
Fuad II, Former King of Egypt and the Sudan

| 7 Living Former Monarchs Who Retired | 11 févr. 2025 | 00:46:17 | |
Queen Elizabeth II considered abdication to be a dirty word. She remained on the throne until her death at 96, and left her son Charles to waiting 73 years to take the job he was born to. But abdication is not so despised in other countries. In recent decades more monarchs have elected to retire and pass the throne on to the next generation. Thus allowing them to spend their golden years relaxing and enjoying their ridiculously well-funded retirement plans. Plus we’ll find out what an ex monarch does in retirement; from studying fish to living in a log cabin to getting into even more scandal than they did on the throne. Let’s meet the world’s 6 living former monarchs...

Louis XIV, King of France from 1638 to 1715, ruled over the court at Versailles with the sheer magnetism of his personality. All were desperate to be in the light of the sun king. His image was paramount to maintaining his place at the center of the Universe. The 5’4” monarch wore high heels and voluminous wigs. And he made sure the world knew he was a virile man with plenty of mistresses. | Empress Wu Zetian of China | 07 janv. 2025 | 00:22:20 | |
Empress Wu Zetian rose from royal concubine to become the only female ruler in China’s 2,000 years of imperial history. Today she is seen as ruthless, tyrannical and willing to murder her own family to hold onto the throne. However this female leader has suffered from a millennium of bad propaganda. Many of the shocking and devious actions she took to claim and hold power overshadow the good she did for her people.

| Royalty 101: What is the Order of the Garter? | 31 déc. 2024 | 00:32:19 | |
The Most Noble Order of the Garter sneaks into so many of my videos. Nearly ever significant member of the English and British royal family since the 1300s, and a number of foreign royals have been knights or ladies of the garter. And the symbols of the order can be spotted in SO. MANY. ROYAL. PORTRAITS. if you know where to look. Most recently the order made an appearance in pop culture when William, Prince of Wales and other senior royal men wore garter robes to the coronation of King Charles III. And on Monday, the 19th of June 2023, Garter day, the order met at Windsor castle, for the first time under King Charles, to induct 2 new members. So what is a chivalric order? What is the history of the Order of the garter? Why is their symbol a piece of women’s lingerie? And who are it’s member? And I’ll tell you about the orders behind the bright blue and red robes Catherine, Princess of Wales and the other female royals were wearing and the green velvet mantle sported by Princess Anne.

| 3 Spooky Christmas Episodes | 24 déc. 2024 | 00:35:23 | |
Throughout history, the cold, dark and hungry winter season had been infused with a certain spooky feeling of dread. Festivals like saturnalia, yule and eventually Christmas brought light to the darkness. But that lingering since of foreboding still underlines the festive season, no mater how much we make merry. Today let’s unearth 3 of my favorite early episodes, all on the theme of Spooky Christmas. In 10 Santa Alternatives from Around the World we’ll meet a Christmas witch from Italy and Krampus, a horrible Christmas demon from Germany. In 10 Christmas Villains we’ll meet pop culture festive baddies from Charles’ Dicken’s ghosts to Jack Skellington. And in Halloween Vs. Christmas we’ll compare my favorite holidays and see which one comes out on top! Please enjoy and Happy Holidays!

| Roman Emperors in the time of Gladiator II | 26 nov. 2024 | 00:31:21 | |
Ridley Scott’s epic historical sequel, Gladiator II promises to be a dramatic and spectacular, if not particularly historically accurate roller-coaster ride through the Roman Empire. And while there are already some excellent videos out there discussing the authenticity of the battle scenes, dramatic deaths and exactly which era saw the flooding of the Colosseum, I want to take a look at something different – the cast of characters and their real historic counterparts. Today let’s explore the family trees which connect the key players, sort out who was real and who was fictional, meet a few fascinating women who did more than wait around to be rescued, and discover everyone’s true fates, which are even more dramatic than Hollywood could come up with. Caution, there will be some spoilers, but I won’t give away the ending of the new film, only what really happened in history.
Gladiator I :
Marcus Aurelius
Commodus
The Year of Five Emperors - 193
Pertinax
Didius Julianus
Pescennius Niger
Clodius Albinus
Septimius Severus
Gladiator II:
Caracalla and Geta

| Catherine the Great & Her Many Lovers | 19 nov. 2024 | 00:33:56 | |
The deliciously witty drama series ‘The Great’ tells the occasionally true story of Catherine II, Empress of Russia. It’s a wonderful example of why historic dramas should be taken as entertainment, not a history lesson. While playing fast and loose with history it actually sanitizes a lot of the scandal in her life by transforming Peter into a romantic antihero and making Catherine fall in love with him. In reality Catherine didn’t keep Peter around for a ‘will they, won’t they’ Hollywood romance. Her lover promptly strangled him in prison. Catherine the Great knew how to use her charm and sexuality, the only tools available to a woman of her time, both for her own advancement and her own pleasure. And while I love the great, it so far only captures a fraction of her true greatness. So let’s take a peek inside the imperial boudoir and get to know the Empress, her twisted relationship with Peter and her many lovers a little more intimately. And we’ll address that horrid rumor about the horse.

Register to Vote & see your local ballot here: https://www.vote.org/
The ability to decide when or if we have children has been an essential human struggle for all of recorded history. Some may believe that abortion is a modern phenomenon. But people have been finding ways to end unwanted pregnancies for thousands of years. And ancient people were often more accepting of it than we are today. From an herb in ancient Greece that was so popular it went extinct, to medieval Popes who argued for women’s rights. From a plan B recipe published by an American founding father, to the horrifying measures desperate women without access to legal care have resorted to. Today we will explore the history of abortion. What’s more, we’ll take a wider view on times throughout history when governments attempted to control their people through reproductions, including in Nazi Germany, Communist Romania and China, and in the United States. Fair warning: this episode will deal with many difficult and dark chapters in history. Please do not take any of this information as medical advice.

| Irene of Athens, Byzantine Empress | 24 sept. 2024 | 00:24:21 | |
Queens of the World Series: Irene of Athens ruled as regent for her son, Easter Roman Emperor, Constantine VI. But when he rose up against her and threatened her religious conviction, she had his eyes gouged out. Thus she became the first Roman Empress to rule in her own right. But because the Pope did not believe a woman could hold the title, he awarded it to Charlemagne, thus creating two rival Roman empires, one in the east and the other in the West.

| Queens of England | 17 sept. 2024 | 00:30:00 | |
Episode originally aired in 2019, I have added a 2024 update.
Of the 66 monarchs who have ruled over England since the Norman conquest only 8 have been Queens. These women have had to fight to gain and hold power. Through most of English history men outranked women in the line of succession so the only way for a woman to inherit the throne was if she had no living brothers. The wives of Kings, while called Queens are not monarchs in their own right and are referred to as Queen Consorts. Some of these female monarchs who were fortunate enough to occupy the throne were less than brilliant rulers. But some reigned with wisdom and justice proving a woman could do the job just as well as a man. Here are their stories...
Matilda (1141-1148)
Jane (1553)
Mary I (1553-1558)
Elizabeth II (1558-1603)
Mary II (1689-1694)
Anne (1702-1714)
Victoria (1837-1901)
Elizabeth II (1952-2022)

| Crowned Before Birth | 10 sept. 2024 | 00:30:27 | |
Anyone who has spent time around a newborn baby knows that while adorable, they are mostly preoccupied with milk, sleep and soiling themselves and don’t exactly have the skills to govern a nation. Though some my argue that a baby might make a better head of state than a politician. Throughout history, the combination of hereditary monarchy and brutally short life expectancy meant that many rulers did inherited their thrones when they were mere infants. Some were even unfortunate enough to loose their fathers while still in the womb and be born directly onto the throne. In one case a crown was even placed on the belly of the pregnant queen and in another a 3 month old king wailed through his tedious coronation ceremony. Today we’ll meet 6 rulers who became monarchs before they even took their first breath:
King Alexander IV of Macedonia
Shah Shapur II of Iran
King Jean I of France & Navarre
Ladislaus the Posthumous
William III, Prince of Orange
King Alfonso XIII of Spain

| Agrippina The Younger, Roman Empress | 13 août 2024 | 00:31:47 | |
Agrippina was the great granddaughter of the first Roman Emperor, Augustus; the grand niece of the second Emperor, Tiberius, the sister of the third, Caligula, wife of the fourth, Claudius and mother of the fifth, Nero. After several personal tragedies, Agrippina became ruthless in her pursuit of security and power. As a woman, she couldn’t rule herself, so she manipulated and murdered her way into the Emperors bed; then secured her own son’s place on the throne. Only to have him turn on her and order her elaborate assassination.

| Empress Carlota of Mexico & The Tragically Short Hapsburg Mexican Empire | 23 juil. 2024 | 00:33:47 | |
Charlotte of Belgium was the beautiful and bright only daughter of the first King of Belgium. Her life looked to be joyous too, when she fell in love with a Hapsburg Archduke, Maximilian of Austria. The couple’s numerous royal connections even got them a incredible job opportunity, to become the rulers of the newly established Empire of Mexico. They crossed the Atlantic full of tropical, turquoise dreams of being hailed as heroes. But they quickly discovered that they were philosophically opposed to the small percentage of Mexicans who actually wanted them there. As the Empire crumbled, Carlota made a desperate return to Europe to beg for help. Only to be met with cold rejection, which ensured Maximilian’s demise and drove Carlota to the depths of mental illness. Let’s get to know Empress Carlota of Mexico and The Tragically Short Hapsburg Mexican Empire. Plus the History behind Cinco de Mayo.

| Princess Charlotte of Wales - The Queen of Who Never Was | 16 juil. 2024 | 00:32:30 | |
If you google “Princess Charlotte of Wales” you will be greeted by pictures of William and Catherine’s adorable daughter, born in 2015. But there was another Princess Charlotte of Wales, born over 200 years earlier who had a much different life. She endured the neglect of parents who hated each other and the abuse of a father who saw her as competition. She grew up resilient and brash. After dragging several young men along, she escaped into a happy love match with a dashing German Prince. They were every bit as popular as the currant Prince and Princess of Wales. As the inevitable heir to the throne, Charlotte embodied Britain’s hope for the future and the birth of her first child was feverishly anticipated. But horribly managed medical care caused her to died in childbirth at the age of 21. Her tragic death was mourned by the nation just as deeply as Princess Diana’s. The race to sire a new heir produced the future Queen Victoria. So every British royal since, including the young Princess Charlotte would not have existed were it not for the sorry fate of the original Princess Charlotte of Wales. Let’s meet her.

| Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, Queen of Great Britain & Ireland | 09 juil. 2024 | 00:33:45 | |
Queen Charlotte went from minor German country gentry to Queen Consort of Great Britain and Ireland. She and George III had a happy marriage and an astonishing 15 children. Charlotte stayed out of politics as her husband lost the American revolution, and she lost her dear friend, Marie Antoinette in the French revolution. Charlotte made numerous cultural contributions including introducing the Christmas tree to Britain and throwing the first debutante ball. In her later years she had to watch as her husband slipped into mental illness and her children struggled to produce a new generation of royals.
