Sunnydale OG L-Chedda On Turf Wars, SF Rap Origins, TearItOff08 sept. 202601:46:18

L-Chedda is one of the original rappers from Sunnydale, one of San Francisco’s most notorious projects. He saw the rise of hip-hop in the city, as well as the turf wars and the crack epidemic. Cheddar flipped street money to co-found Butt Naked Records and put out groups from his hood like Down N Dirty Hustlas and Ghetto Soldiers. He caught an out-of-state case in 2006 which resulted in a 6-year prison sentence. Since coming home, Chedda has focused on legitimate careers, pushing his music catalogue, and mentoring the new generation of youth in Sunnydale.

How Death & Prison Derailed Bay Area Hip-Hop09 juil. 202600:22:55

The Bay Area is a region with undeniable talent, but it hasn't become a permanent hip-hop power center. We've had plenty of artists with hits and worldwide acclaim, but there are so many rappers who haven't had the spotlight. Many fans have wondered why the Bay seems so slept on, and never achieved the same level of success as other regions. One reason is that so many artists - including our BIGGEST superstars - have been held back by death, prison, and other consequences of the streets. This is a deep dive into some of the tragic circumstances that have derailed Bay Area rap.

History of the Bay: Berner23 déc. 202501:19:50

Berner has become one of the biggest entrepreneurs in music, clothing, and cannabis; but his journey started with humble beginnings from the Bay Area to Arizona. Falling into the scenes of San Francisco rap and hustling, he got his start working at the Hemp Center and parlaying his cannabis connections into music opportunities. Dregs One and Berner first met during those early days, and this podcast is a detailed discussion into his beginnings. From his first ventures into exotic strains, collaborations with the Jacka and Messy Marv, to launching the Cookies brand, this is a must-see episode for anyone interested in learning how Berner became the mogul he is today.--For promo opportunities on the podcast, e-mail: info@historyofthebay.com--History of the Bay Spotify Playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3ZUM4rCv6xfNbvB4r8TVWU?si=9218659b5f4b43aaOnline Store: https://dregsone.myshopify.com Follow Dregs One:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/1UNuCcJlRb8ImMc5haZHXF?si=poJT0BYUS-qCfpEzAX7mlAInstagram: https://instagram.com/dregs_oneTikTok: https://tiktok.com/@dregs_oneTwitter: https://twitter.com/dregs_oneFacebook: https://facebook.com/dregsone41500:00 Dregs & Berner’s history05:30 The Bay to Arizona11:20 Passion for cannabis15:20 Sunset District underworld22:26 Early raps: Conceit, Don Toriano28:04 Hemp Center & legalization32:58 Kush, Cherry Pie & Cookies40:30 Creating a brand43:40 Goldtoes45:16 Online haters47:57 The Jacka53:10 Messy Marv55:34 “Yoko” - Chris Brown, Wiz Khalifa1:04:53 Walking away from the game1:08:22 Taylor Gang1:12:38 Cookies Clothing1:16:22 Current projects

History of the Bay: Suga-T16 déc. 202501:38:15

Suga-T is one of the first female rappers to emerge from the West Coast and a Bay Area pioneer. Along with her brothers E-40 and D-Shot and their cousin B-Legit, she cofounded The Click and helped put Vallejo on the map. As a teen mother, Suga navigated obstacles in the streets and found her voice as a musician. She went on to make gold and platinum hits, but eventually took a hiatus from rap and went back to earn multiple college degrees. After experiencing domestic violence, Suga became a counselor to other women and coaches them on entrepreneurship, health, and wellness. In addition to writing books, selling beauty products, and working in community organizations, she continues to be active in putting out new music.--For promo opportunities on the podcast, e-mail: info@historyofthebay.com--History of the Bay Spotify Playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3ZUM4rCv6xfNbvB4r8TVWU?si=9218659b5f4b43aaOnline Store: https://dregsone.myshopify.com Follow Dregs One:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/1UNuCcJlRb8ImMc5haZHXF?si=poJT0BYUS-qCfpEzAX7mlAInstagram: https://instagram.com/dregs_oneTikTok: https://tiktok.com/@dregs_oneTwitter: https://twitter.com/dregs_oneFacebook: https://facebook.com/dregsone41500:00 Growing up in Vallejo & family10:01 Musical family14:49 Teen parent24:30 Women in hip-hop46:18 The Click 55:38 Captain Save A Hoe 1:00:08 2pac; San Quinn1:03:52 Sprinkle Me1:08:12 “Game Related” 1:13:45 Hiatus from rap 1:23:01 Domestic violence1:31:32 Entrepeneurship

Since then, Domino played a major role in Souls of Mischief and Casual getting major label deals, then launching their own Hieroglyphics Imperium label. Heart 101 is one of the most unique graffiti writers to make a mark on the San Francisco scene. Defying style conventions, he pushed the message “Heart Over Capital” as a way to encourage love over money, while also speaking out against oppression in society. Born in Delaware, Heart moved to San Francisco as a teenager and found himself immersed in the hustle of street life. As an openly queer person, he faced hatred, disses, and even physical attacks from homophobic graffiti writers.
