After only three hours of deliberations the jury at the Tupac Murder Trial returned with a verdict finding Duane "Keffe D" Davis guilty of first degree murder in connection with the 1996 drive-by shooting death of Tupac Shakur. Davis will be sentenced on October 13, 2026.

Duane Davis’s defence attorney rested his case on Thursday after calling just three witness, all of them former Las Vegas police officers.

Davis opted not to take the stand in his own defence. The entire case put on by his lawyer Michael Sanft took just over an hour. Next up closing arguments on Monday morning.

A very busy day in court on Tuesday at the Tupac Murder Trial. Six witnesses took the stand including a rapper who witnessed Tupac’s shooting and a former Compton police detective who gave the jury a 101 on street gangs. Plus, jurors saw evidence removed from the Las Vegas home of Duane "Keffe D Davis house when police executed a search warrant in the summer of 2023. The evidence included newspaper clippings about Tupac’s drive-by shooting found in a plastic tub in Davis’s garage alongside what the prosecution described as scrap book.

On Thursday at the Tupac Murder Trial the majority of the day was spent listening to a secret interview Duane Davis gave to police in 2008.

Jurors heard Davis describe in his own words how he orchestrated the drive-by shooting that killed Tupac. The candid three hour long interview is a major part of the state's case and mirrors what Davis wrote in his 2019 memoir Compton Street Legend.

A short day in court on Wednesday so there was only time to hear from two witnesses but the jury leaned a lot more about the man charged with orchestrating the 1996 drive-by shooting of Tupac Shakur.

In addition to being a leader or shot caller in the Southside Crips street gang jurors also learned from two retired law enforcements officers that Duane Keefe D Davis is a convicted drug dealer who at one time bragged he had southside Compton sewn up meaning he controlled the drug traffic in that area.

Some tense moments in a Las Vegas courtroom on Tuesday as a former gang member took the stand at the trial of Duane "Keefe D" Davis.

James Macdonald made it very clear that he didn’t want to be there because even though he doesn’t like Keefe D he doesn’t want to be responsible for sending him to prison. Macdonald was one of eight witnesses called by the prosecution on the second day of testimony including a Clark county medical examiner, a first responder and Reggie Wright Jr. who was the head of Death Row security.

The trial of Duane "Keefe D" Davis is set to start this morning inside the 8th Judicial District Court in Las Vegas. Davis is facing a charge of murder with a deadly weapon with the intent to promote, further or assist a criminal gang in connection with the 1996 drive-by shooting death of rapper Tupac Shakur. The first order of business in the court today will be selecting the jurors who will decide the fate of 63 year-old Davis who prosecutors say ordered the killing in retaliation for a gang fight.

It's been 30 years since a back pack bomb rocked the Summer Olympics in Atlanta killing one person and injuring over 100 others. 

The bomb had been left under a bench in the middle of Centennial Olympic Park on the eighth day of the games. Security Guard Richard Jewell discovered the bomb and helped to start clear the area before it went off. Jewel was hailed a hero until he became the number one suspect.

In July 1991 President George HW Bush nominated Clarence Thomas to the US Supreme Court. Initial reaction to the nomination suggested there would be a contentious Senate confirmation battle that would probe Thomas’s conservative views on issues such as abortion and affirmative action.  But there was no real concern that Bush’s pick might not be approved. After winning a seat in the Louisiana House of Representatives the former leader of the KKK, mounted multiple political campaigns seeking higher office, including President of the United States. His rising popularity revealed a growing racial divide in the United States.

In 1995 a small community in British Columbia’s Fraser Valley was rocked by the brutal attack on two teenage girls by a mysterious man armed with a bat.  Misty Cockerill escaped but her friend Tanya Smith was found dead the next morning in a nearby river.  Over the next seven months the killer led police on a wild game of cat and mouse as he taunted them with phone calls and other disturbing messages.

In July 1992 the Canadian government banned cod fishing along Newfoundland’s east coast in an effort to help restore cod stocks that had been depleted due to overfishing.

The moratorium was supposed to last 18 months but ended up being extended indefinitely.

The collapse of the industry ended nearly five centuries of cod fishing, led to the largest industrial layoff in Canada, devastated Newfoundland’s economy and shook the province’s identity to the core.
