Karen and Gerard Iglesia from Primetime 585 join AJ Feldman and Rachel Libert to preview all the basketball action, draft style.

Moderated by Thad Brown, everyone selected four teams in four categories: a top seed, a 2-4 seed, a 5+ seeded 'Cinderella', and a wild card they could use on any seed they liked.

Each team is awarded three points for winning a sectional title, two for finishing as runner-up and one for falling in the sectional semifinals. Points are cumulative, so any sectional champ will earn a total of six points.

There is exactly one weekend left of the 2023-24 spring sports season. AJ Feldman and Carl Jones link up to discuss the state semifinals and put a bow on the year as a whole.

The News 8 duo kick off the show by discussing how Section V dominated in girls lacrosse in the Far West Regionals and their matchups in the state semifinals. Victor, Fairport, Mercy, and Penn Yan all cruised to the state final four (5:25).

Then, they break down the Section V boys for lacrosse and their chances of winning a state title this weekend. Can McQuaid or Victor end the boys lacrosse title drought for Section V (8:55)?

Next, AJ and Carl pivot to softball. There are five Section V squads competing for a state championship. Fairport, Sutherland, Wellsville, Bloomfield, and Friendship-Scio are all vying for a state title (12:35).

Finally, they wrap it up with baseball. After an eventful state quarterfinal round, can the Section V teams keep it going down in Binghamton (19:30)?

After a weekend filled with delays and postponements, all of the sectional titles have been claimed. Carl Jones recaps all of the championship games while looking ahead to the state quarterfinal matchups.

First, the News 8 sports reporter breaks down the sectional finals in lacrosse including a 5-hour contest due to a weather delay (0:30).

Next, Tom Prince of WNY Athletics joins the podcast to preview this weekend’s Far West Regionals for baseball and softball. Prince pulls back the curtains and dives into the key matchups in baseball for Class AAA’s Fairport vs. Lancaster (5:45), Class AA’s Victor vs. Clarence (9:40), Class A’s Sutherland vs. Amherst (12:50), Class B’s Wellsville vs. Medina (15:35), Class C’s Bolivar-Richburg vs. Wilson, and Class D’s Arkport-Canaseraga vs. North Collins.

It’s crunch time in Section V with plenty of sectional championships on the horizon.

AJ Feldman and Carl Jones begin by discussing the flag football sectional finals. Penfield claimed back to back titles in Class A. Athena took the top spot in Class B1 while Bishop Kearney won the Class B2 crown (1:20).

Athena’s Connor Osier has had a stellar season on the mound and is headed off to the University of Houston. Ryan Fishback of Geneva is ranked top 10 in the country for tennis and has claimed another sectional title. Those are two players we are watching this postseason (6:55).

Irondequoit boys lacrosse has put together an impressive resume this season. Can they grab their first title since 2012? Also, Section V is looking to repeat as state champions at the golf state championships. Those headline our storylines for the playoffs (13:50).

Both the Class AA brackets for softball and girls lacrosse are stacked for the semifinal round. Who will rise to the top? AJ and Carl preview those games (19:50).

The school year is winding down which means sectional play is right around the corner.

AJ Feldman and Carl Jones begin by breaking down the state rankings for boys lacrosse and softball. Section V is well-represented in both sports up and down the classifications (1:10).

Victor softball had a memorable week led by a historic performance in the circle. East baseball is undefeated and has mowed down everyone in their path. They're our Teams of the Week (8:55).

Sarah Ferruzza was recently named the all-time winningest student-athlete in Schroeder history while Batavia flag football appears to be in a tier of their own in Class B1. Those two lead our Eyes on You segment (17:20).

Lastly, we are looking forward to the matchups between Fairport and McQuaid in boys lacrosse as well as Penn Yan and Mercy in girls lacrosse.

AJ and Carl are taking a bit of late spring break, so we bring you the News 8 Primetime 585 Elite Awards for this week's episode.

The spring sports season is well underway in Section V. But before they dive all the way in, AJ Feldman and Carl Jones discuss the News 8 Primetime 585 Elite award show for the winter sports season.

Earlier this week, Dyaisha Fair, an Edison Tech grad and former Syracuse guard, was drafted 16th overall to the Las Vegas Aces in the 2024 WNBA Draft. Carl was in Brooklyn for the festivities and shared his experience in the city (1:55).

The New York State Sportswriters Association released their initial rankings for girls lacrosse and the lists were littered with Section V teams. Rush-Henrietta was the highest ranked of four Class A schools from the area. The News 8 duo broke down how an early season injury for Fairport will have an impact on this class (5:50).

There were five Section V schools ranked in the top 20 for Class B with Victor leading the way at third. Carl and AJ discuss the play of the Brighton Bruins and how their record does not tell the entire story (9:16).

In Class C, Mercy was the lone Section V representative as they were ranked 20th (14:15). Penn Yan, led by Bailey Cooper, was ranked second in Class D by the sportswriters (16:35).

They wrap up the show with two games to watch in the coming days. Carl talks about the Canandaigua/Honeoye Falls-Lima in boys lacrosse while AJ goes to the diamond to speak on the McQuaid/Aquinas game (18:28).

Section V is back from spring break and so is the High School Huddle.

Before diving into the start of the sports season, Carl and AJ share their eclipse stories, with the latter getting slightly better weather in the former's hometown.

They then discuss some of the early headlines of the season. McQuaid boys and Canandaigua girls lacrosse are off to undefeated starts, Pittsford has a pair of dynamite pitchers, and flag football is making strides once again this season (4:45).

There are a handful of good lacrosse matchups on deck this week, they highlight Irondequoit/Penfield boys lacrosse and Rush-Henrietta/Penfield girls lacrosse (17:15).

The winter high school sports season has officially has come to an end. AJ Feldman and Carl Jones come together to recap another exciting chapter of the year.

First, the duo discuss how Section V fared in the basketball state championships (4:00). Hilton's Elena Graziano made the shot of her life in the "Game of the Year" in the state semifinals.

Next, they talk about their most memorable moments of the 2023-2024 winter sports season (9:40). Carl begins with the hockey sectional finals returning to RIT and the electric games at the Gene Polisseni Center.

Carl stopped by Athena high school earlier this week and did a story on the Reaves brothers. This isn't the first time in Section V that the 'Reaves' last name has made noise on the basketball scene (2:35).

AJ was able to sit down with Pittsford's dynamic swimmer Cameron Stezter who has already qualified for every single event at the New York state championships (7:05).

Avon and Lyons boys basketball continued their dominant stretch with an impressive wins this week. They're our Teams of the Week (10:35).

There are four teams represented in both the large and small school rankings for Section V. McQuaid leads the way in large schools (3:00), though Pittsford is right on their tail. The Panthers are fresh off a big win over Hilton, they listen in on Primetime 585's interview with their top performers (6:30-7:15).

In the small school rankings, Schroeder and Batavia Notre Dame have emerged from the pack as some of the top teams in the state. AJ and Carl highlight some of their top wins and performers of the season (11:00).

Turning to our Teams of the Week, East football won a dramatic game against Canandiagua while Hilton continued their undefeated start to the season to earn our praise (14:00).

Section V baseball and softball had five teams compete in the state final four but while none of those teams were victorious, a worthy team and coach from Western New York did complete their storybook season (17:15-22:30).

Boys lacrosse (0:00-11:10) and girls lacrosse (11:10-20:00) both have four teams remaining, while softball (20:00-25:15) and baseball (25:15-34:00) have a few teams left looking to go all the way.

A thrilling week of sectional action is in the books and AJ and Carl are here to talk about where we've been and where we're going.

They start by recapping all the games that awarded wooden bricks with little golden people on the top. Boys lacrosse saw powerhouses advance (2:00-8:15), girls lacrosse had a pair of overtime thrillers (8:15-17:00), Rush-Henrietta's historic win highlighted the softball matchups (17:00-21:30), while softball had some dominant performances and a viral championship game for the ages (21:30-28:30).

Then, we bring on Tom Prince of WNY Athletics to preview what should be a great weekend of Far West Regional action as Section V squares off against Section VI. We talk about the Class AA, A, and B baseball matchups (28:30-39:00) and the Class AA and A softball games (39:00-48:00).

The spring sports season is winding to a close and it looks like it's going to be another wild finish. After recapping our coverage of the PGA Championship, we catch up on what we've missed while we were working from dawn to dusk at Oak Hill Country Club.

In boys lacrosse, Pittsford is building some serious momentum heading into the Class A semifinals while Schroeder pulled off a big upset over Canandaigua (4:00). In girls lacrosse, Class C is shaping up to be a wild bracket and Victor is getting their mojo back (8:30). On the diamond, Penfield baseball stunned Hilton while Churchville-Chili had a storybook finish to their semifinal matchup (13:30). And we gear you up for the thrilling conclusions of the softball tournaments (18:00).

In our final episode before AJ and Carl devote their lives to all things Oak Hill Country Club, we highlight some of the top teams building their cases as the best of the best in Section V.

For our teams of the week, Carl highlights Canandaigua girls lacrosse's big win over Rush-Henrietta, while AJ gives the Royal Comet softball team some love after a big week (3:50-11:10).

We've got our eyes on Irondequoit boys lacrosse and Mercy girls lacrosse as the two look to play spoiler to perennial Class B powers (11:10-17:20).

AJ and Carl are back after covering the NFL Draft and it's time to dive back into Section V sports. After breaking down what the BIlls did in the draft (0:00-4:30), we break down our first batch of spring NYSSWA rankings.

Section V is well-represented in the boys lacrosse rankings, led by Victor atop the Class B ranks (4:30-14:00). Schroeder softball is getting plenty of love in the Class AA rankings coming off their state title, with a trio of Class A teams all gaining attention (14:00-18:30).

We've got our eyes on a pair of teams who have earned some impressive wins as we highlight Aquinas girls lacrosse and Fairport softball (18:30-21:35).

Finally, a pair of potential sectional championship game previews have our attention as Victor and Canandaigua boys lacrosse gear up for their annual duel, as well as Schroeder and Hilton baseball who are both red hot (21:35-25:20).

It was a big week of rivalries in Section V sports and the winners made their cases as some of the top teams in the area. Carl Jones names Thomas softball as his Team of the Week after a big win over Schroeder, while AJ praises Canandaigua boys lacrosse for winning the War for the Oar (1:25-9:15).

HF-L boys lacrosse and Mendon softball are both hungry to get back on top of their respective classes, and they've got their eyes on their strong starts (9:15-14:40).

Finally, contenders will emerge next week after Hilton and Irondequoit boys lax battle to prove who's legit, while McQuaid and Schroeder baseball square off in a potential playoff preview. (14:40-19:45)

Carl and the rest of Section V are back from spring break and local athletes have treated us to some great performances.

AJ and Carl break down the strong starts from the Fairport baseball (2:15) and Rush-Henrietta girls lacrosse team (5:00), while also issuing a plea to parents in the stands.

Penn Yan girls lacrosse (10:30) and East United/Eastridge boys lacrosse (13:20) have grabbed their attention to start the season, they highlight some of their top performers and reasons for optimism.

Finally, a great boys lacrosse matchup (16:25) and a softball rivalry showdown (18:00) are games they've got their eyes on.

Spring sports are back and so is the show as AJ Feldman and Carl Jones take a glance at the biggest headlines of the season so far. They discuss the loaded roster of the Victor boys lacrosse team (5:00), Livonia/Avon boys lacrosse's big win and future prospects (8:30), Schroeder softball's chances at repeating as state champs (12:00), as well as a strong start for McQuaid baseball as they try and make it three in a row (15:10).

Finally, there are a pair of great girls lacrosse games on the schedule next week as we break down Victor/Rush-Henrietta and Thomas/Canandaigua (20:00).

The winter season is in the books and it's time to put a bow on an eventful, exciting, and victorious Section V campaign.

AJ and Carl start the show off by recapping the basketball state championships which saw Victor, Avoca/Prattsburgh, Schroeder, and Waterloo take home state titles (0:00-16:00).

Then, we hand out some hardware by awarding our moments (16:00-23:30), teams (23:30-29:00), and players (29:00-34:45) of the winter sports season. Students and teams from RCSD, Schroeder, Victor, Pittsford, and Lyons gain some well-deserved recognition.

After a thrilling weekend of state quarterfinal action in Western New York, seven Section V teams remain and have advanced to the state Final Four. We begin our preview with the boys slate. In Class AA, Victor taking on Brentwood out of the Long Island region with both teams vying for their first state title (1:45-3:10). In Class A, Chris Cardon's Irondequoit Eagles looking for their first state championship since 2017, but South Side from Section VIII stands in the way (3:10-5:35). In Class B, Newark will take on state powerhouse Westhill in hopes of grabbing their first-ever state title (5:35-7:40). Lastly, in Class D, Avoca-Prattsburgh looks to defend their state championship (7:40-8:10.)

Next, Jeff Mliner of Empire State Takeover joins the show to preview the girls basketball state tournament, with three Section V teams competing. In Class AA, Schroeder will take on Baldwin after a gutsy win against Lancaster in the Far West Regionals. Baldwin made the state championship game last year. In the other semifinal, Liverpool battles against White Plains (9:00-24:30). In Class A, Canandaigua is off to Troy after a controversial win over Hamburg. Jeff and AJ discuss the unfortunate scoring error and preview the Braves' matchup against Manhasset. Averill Park, the defending state champs, or Panas awaits the winner in the championship game (24:30-49:40). Finally, in Class B Waterloo is back and hungry to avenge their championship loss last season. They take on Cortland in the final four, while Albany Academy or Putnam Valley face off in a battle of titans in the other matchup (49:40-1:09:30).

The bricks have been raised after a thrilling sectional championship weekend and it's on to states. To preview all the action, Tom Prince of WNY Athletics joins the show to break down all of the Section VI teams from Buffalo. 

First, we reminisce on the best of a busy weekend as we brought you all of the championship games at Blue Cross Arena and Rush-Henrietta High School (0:00-7:00)

Next, Tom joins the show to give a rundown of all of Saturday's games. He's seen and covered all of these teams this season and will be broadcasting the girls games this weekend. We start with Class AA and work our way down to Class D. The girls games will be played at Buffalo State University and the boys games are in Rochester at Gates Chili and Rush-Henrietta. In Class AA it's Schroeder girls vs. Lancaster and Victor boys vs. Niagara Falls (7:00- 15:45), in A it's Canandaigua girls vs. Hamburg and Irondequoit boys vs. Amherst (15:45-24:15), in B it's Waterloo girls vs. Depew and Newark boys vs. Fredonia (24:15-30:25), in Class C it's Pavilion girls vs. Randolph and Lyons/Pembroke boys vs. Randolph (30:25-35:15), and in Class D it's Keshequa girls vs. Panama and Avoca/Prattsburgh boys vs. Panama (35:15-43:15)

Finally, we close the show by looking ahead to the boys state final four as Pittsford tries to win it all (43:15-48:45).

It's our biggest show of the year as we take you through each and every basketball sectional championship that will take place this weekend around Section V. 

First, Carl saw a pair of late-game thrillers in the hockey championship matchups. He recaps Pittsford and Schroeder's titles and we look ahead to their regional matchups (0:00-7:10). 

Then, we preview the girls matchups. How can Schroeder and Penfield top their epic semifinal performances? Who will capture the vacant Class A crown? Which powerhouse will win the rubber match in B1? We try and answer all those questions and more (7:10-24:20). 

Then we switch over to the boys side, where just about every matchup down the line should be a good one. Basketball is back at the Big House and the games look like they will live up to the hype (24:20-42:30).

It's nothing but playoffs from here on out as the winter sports season is coming to a close. After AJ and Carl get done complaining about the ice storm, we head to the ice to break down the hockey semifinals. Schroeder and Pittsford came away with upsets, while Victor and Churchville-Chili held serve to set up some great championship games on Sunday. (0:00-8:00)

Then, we dive head-first into our basketball preview with a fantasy draft. We'll be picking our top teams to go far in the tournament based on seed. Each of us will pick a 1, 2, 3, 4/5, and 6+ seed as well as three wild card selections. The only thing hotter than the weather this week is the winter sports season as sectionals are getting underway across the area. 

AJ and Carl start the show by previewing the Class A (0:00-9:20) and Class B (9:20-14:00) hockey sectionals. Each bracket has two clear favorites, but plenty of contenders who are looking to crash the party. 

Before playoffs begin, Canandaigua girls basketball and Lyons boys basketball both had statement wins. We assess their future heading into the postseason (14:00-23:30)

Finally, a handful of sports have already awarded their champions. We recap the winners in swimming, wrestling, skiing, and bowling (23:30-31:25).
