| EP 247.5: From Rejection to Redemption ~ How Past Hurts Keep You Stuck in Disordered Eating & What to Do Next | 21 Oct 2025 | 00:13:00 | |
What if I told you that the eating disorder you're battling isn't really about food at all—it's about rejection? In this deeply personal episode, I'm pulling back the curtain on my own rejection story and how those painful moments shaped my relationship with food, my body, and control. From being told to "get in line by size" at dance practice to corporate disappointments and broken friendships, I'm sharing the rejection wounds that led me down the path of disordered eating. Here's the truth: perfectionism is rejection prevention. It's the way your brain tries to avoid the emotional trauma of feeling "not enough." And your eating disorder? It offers the illusion of protection—a false comfort that promises to fix everything and prevent future rejection. But the only thing it really does is lead to the deepest rejection of all: rejecting your own worthiness. Today, we're dissecting rejection together. I'm meeting you in that painful place so you can discover what I've learned: your rejection story can become your redemption story. Rejection isn't the end—it's God's protection, His redirection, and often the most powerful motivator for transformation. If you've been shrinking yourself to fit into spaces you were rejected from, this episode is your invitation to take up space again, feel free again, and reject the rejection that was never yours to carry. What You'll Learn:[02:30] The moment everything changed: My dance practice rejection story and how one comment shifted my entire relationship with my body [05:00] Why perfectionism is actually rejection prevention—and how it fuels your eating disorder [07:15] The cycle that keeps you stuck: Fear of rejection → False control → Isolation → Disordered eating behaviors → Reinforced rejection fears [09:45] How early experiences shape your relationship with safety (and why you desperately want to be seen, heard, and loved) [12:00] Protection strategies your brain uses: Numbing through restriction, creating physical armor through body changes, food rituals as predictable comfort [15:30] My personal rejection timeline: From Disney on Ice to corporate promotions, college boyfriends to broken friendships—the moments that shaped my story [18:00] The powerful reframe: Rejection is God's protection and redirection. What would you have missed if those doors had stayed open? [20:30] How recovered people reject rejection—practical steps to heal and move forward [23:00] The three questions to ask when rejection voices show up: "So what? Says who? Who cares?" Key Takeaways:💔 Perfectionism = Rejection Prevention: Your eating disorder isn't about food. It's your brain's attempt to avoid the pain of feeling "not enough." 🔄 The Rejection Cycle: Fear of rejection leads to false control (food/body manipulation), which leads to isolation, which reinforces rejection fears, which prevents you from being seen, heard, and loved. ✨ Rejection → Redemption: Your rejection story matters because it can become your redemption story. Every painful moment can be transformed into power. 🚪 If those doors had stayed open, what would you have missed? Rejection is often God's redirection toward a better path you couldn't have imagined. 🛡️ Protection Strategies Keeping You Stuck:
💪 Recovered People Reject Rejection: They show up imperfectly, embrace progress over perfection, create healthy boundaries, build self-trust, and sit with uncomfortable emotions. 🎯 The Most Powerful Truth: No one needs to like you but you. You are approved by God who created you and put a seal of worthiness on your birth certificate. You're not rejected—you're redeemed. Reflection Questions for Your Journal:📝 What are your rejection stories? What moments made you feel unseen, unheard, or unloved? 📝 How did those rejections shape your relationship with food and your body? When did you start "the exhausting project of trying to shrink yourself"? 📝 What parts of yourself have you rejected? Movement you loved? Activities that brought joy? Nourishment? Rest? Connection? 📝 If those doors had stayed open, what would you have missed? What blessings came from closed doors? 📝 What rejection are you still carrying that isn't yours? What old wound keeps replaying as current truth? Action Steps:✍️ Write out your rejection story. This isn't to create trauma—it's to find freedom in laying it down, forgiving it, and moving forward. 🗣️ Practice the three questions: Next time rejection voices show up ("you're not good enough," "you can't eat that"), respond with: "So what? Says who? Who cares?" 🔄 Reframe your rejections: List your biggest rejections, then write what you would have missed if those doors had stayed open. 💪 Start doing the next right thing: Show up imperfectly, embrace progress over perfection, create healthy boundaries, and build self-trust. 🙅♀️ Stop people pleasing: You don't need to be for everyone. It's okay to not have a seat at everyone's table. Quotes from This Episode:"Perfectionism is rejection prevention. It's the way that our brain and our mind tries to avoid the pain and the emotional trauma of feeling the not enoughness." "In trying to protect yourself from rejection, you begin rejecting parts of yourself—movement you enjoyed, activities that bring you joy, nourishment, rest, and eventually connection with people you cherished." "The eating disorder promises to fix everything, promises that everyone will accept you, promises to fix any future rejection. But the only real thing it does is lead to the deepest rejection of all: rejecting your own worthiness." "Whatever story you've been replaying on repeat, you can learn to take up space, feel free again, and reject the rejection that was never yours to carry." "Rejection is nothing more than a necessary step in the pursuit of a better path. When we start looking at it like that, it becomes the most powerful motivator in your life." "No one needs to like you but you. The cycle of fear of rejection leads to false control, which leads to isolation, which reinforces rejection fears and prevents you from being seen, heard, and loved." "Rejection is God's protection. It is His redirection. If those doors had stayed open, what would you have missed?" "You're not rejected, you're redeemed. You're not bad. Maybe you just shine a little too bright for someone who couldn't handle it." "Recovered people reject rejection." Connect with Lindsey

| EP 247: "Will I Always Feel This Way?" Understanding Hard Times in ED Recovery + 3 Outcomes That Determine Your Freedom | 17 Oct 2025 | 00:15:19 | |
If you're in the thick of eating disorder recovery right now and wondering if it's ever going to get easier, this episode is for you. Maybe you had a rough week with food. Maybe you're exhausted from fighting the same battles in your head every single day. Maybe you're wondering if recovery is even worth it because right now it just feels so incredibly hard. In this episode, Lindsey gets real about hard times in recovery and shares a truth that will change how you see your struggle: there are only three possible outcomes when you're going through something hard, and what you choose determines everything about your recovery and your future. This isn't a "just think positive" pep talk. This is truth-telling, no-nonsense guidance about why hard times don't last forever—but only if you refuse to stay stuck in them. If you're ready to stop waiting for recovery to magically get easier and start building the resilience you need to actually get better, this episode will show you how. What You'll Learn:
The 3 Outcomes of Hard Times: Outcome #1: You Quit Quitting looks like going back to restriction because it feels safer. It's skipping meals after a bad body image day. It's choosing what's familiar over what will set you free. When you quit moving forward, the hard time doesn't end—it just becomes your new normal. Outcome #2: It Gets Better Sometimes circumstances change and the external situation improves. But if YOU don't change? You're just waiting for the next hard time to come along. You'll always be one comment away from spiraling, one trigger away from old patterns. Outcome #3: You Get Better This is where your power lives. This is where transformation happens. When YOU get better, you learn to nourish your body even when you don't feel deserving. You challenge food rules. You sit with emotions instead of controlling them through food or exercise. You make decisions from your healed self. Key Takeaways: ✨ Hard times don't last forever—but they also don't end just because you want them to. They end when you choose to move through them. ✨ There are only 3 outcomes: you quit, it gets better, or you get better. Only one leads to lasting freedom. ✨ When you quit, the hard time doesn't disappear—it just continues and becomes your normal. ✨ Relying on circumstances to improve keeps you at the mercy of triggers and external situations. ✨ You getting better means actively participating in your own healing, not just hoping things change. ✨ The hard time becomes your identity when you refuse to move forward—it becomes who you are instead of something you're moving through. ✨ Choosing to get better is hard, but staying stuck is harder. Wake up a year from now in the same place or choose to do the work now. Powerful Quotes from This Episode: "Hard times don't last forever. They don't. But only if you refuse to stay stuck in them." "Hard times end when you decide they end. Not when circumstances are perfect. Not when you feel ready. Not when it's easy. They end when you decide to keep moving forward even when it's hard." "When you quit, the hard time doesn't actually end. It just continues. It stretches out. It becomes your new normal." "When YOU get better, it doesn't matter as much what the circumstances are. When YOU get better, you have tools to work through triggers." "You don't have to stay here. You don't have to live in this hard time forever. But you do have to choose to move through it." "The hard time you're in right now? It's not forever. It's not your ending. It's not your identity. It's just a chapter. And you get to write what comes next." Real Talk: This episode delivers no-nonsense truth: the eating disorder wants you to believe you'll always feel this way, but that's a lie. You don't have to stay stuck. But you do have to choose outcome #3—to get better. That means showing up when you don't feel like it, doing the opposite of what the disorder tells you, and trusting the process even when you can't see results yet. What's harder than doing the work? Waking up years from now still fighting the same battles because you never chose to get better. Questions to Ask Yourself:

Your Past Doesn't Exist Anymore
🔍 Eating disorders as control: When the world feels chaotic, restricting food can feel like the one thing you can control 🔍 Numbing mechanism: ED behaviors often serve to numb overwhelming emotions from traumatic experiences 🔍 False sense of safety: The eating disorder creates an illusion of control and perfection 🔍 Survival strategy: You turned to these behaviors because you needed to survive in that moment Powerful Quotes from This Episode:💭 "The deepest, hardest, darkest pain you've been through is most often what's going to catapult you into your highest, best, and truest version of yourself." 💭 "Your wound is not your fault, but your healing is most certainly your responsibility." 💭 "You do not need to judge your past self with your current wisdom." 💭 "You now know better, so you can now do better." 💭 "You aren't damaged. You're not broken. Nothing needs to be fixed, including your body." Important Reminders:✨ Trauma-informed care is crucial for eating disorder recovery ✨ Professional therapy support is essential for processing trauma ✨ Recovery coaching focuses on the here and now, not digging up past trauma ✨ Forgiveness is part of the healing equation ✨ You're worthy of a life free from pain, regardless of your past Questions for Self-Reflection:🤔 What am I holding onto and why? 🤔 What can be released from my past? 🤔 What needs to be forgiven? 🤔 How can my past serve as a teacher rather than a prison? 🤔 What version of myself am I ready to let go of? | EP 177.5: How Recovery Transformed My Life ~ 8 Hidden Gifts I Learned Along My Journey Through and Beyond Anorexia | 25 Oct 2024 | 00:18:56
Gosh the year is just flying, isn't it? Lately, I've been asked by women battling an unhealthy relationship with food & their body if recovery was worth it. Am I truly happy now? And I've seen so many women make the mistake of believing the lies. The lies that they will be miserable once they gain weight or that once they commit to putting their health first, they just won't like who they are. Many women I work with 1:1, actually come to me feeling like they are stuck in this never-ending cycle of an eating disorder & they just aren't sure they will ever escape from it. I feel that on so many levels. & I have sat with all of those same thoughts & beliefs. But I Recovered. & sis, so can you! Today's episode is a special one, because I wanted to share with you 8 reasons why my battle with anorexia was the BEST thing that happened FOR me in my life, in hopes it gives you some assurance & peace. Sister, sometimes the BEST thing & the WORST thing, can be the SAME thing! My eating disorder was the BEST, WORST thing that I have experienced, & I am truly grateful for the process of recovery. Robert Adams says, "There is only one decision you need to make: you are either working at your freedom or you are accepting your bondage." Stop staying chained where you are sweet friend! There is so much more to this thing called life. My question for you today is: What is your freedom worth to you? ~ I hope today's show touches your soul & helps provide PROOF to you, that recovery is possible & that there is LIFE after an eating disorder. | EP 176.5: The Freedom Formula ~ 9 Key Attributes of the "Recovered" & Fuel to Fight Your Fight⚗️**FAV ALERT!** | 18 Oct 2024 | 00:18:50
This year is flying by! How is it going for you sis? The truth over here is we are one baseball weekend to the next & I am doing my best to keep up with both boys, while granting myself permission to rest at the same dang time. I'm sure you feel me. My biggest advice: snacks on snacks! This baseball mom must have all snacks on deck for survival in the busy season. But it wasn't always that way for me....you see, I use to avoid snacks. I would tell myself that I could snack but only instead of eating a real meal. Any extras seemed scary...& at that point in my life...unnecessary. What changed? Well, I knew if I wanted to get somewhere I hadn't gone, then I had to do something that I hadn't done. So I followed my dietician's advice, & I packed snacks with me every time I left the house, so that I would never be in the position to skip eating. I ate the snacks...& the real meal. & after years of recovering myself, I wanted to bring to you a podcast episode around what traits & I feel are the core characteristics of those who have recovered. | EP 176: True-up Tuesday! Embrace Your Enough-Ness With a Tangible Check-in to Recalibrate Your Goals Without the Pressure to Do More | 15 Oct 2024 | 00:15:03
Happy Tuesday sis! Monday was a complete blur. And if I'm honest, I'm still catching up from the weekend & week before! How about you? Do you have those weeks where you feel like you have been thrown right into the next week, yet you are still trying to play "catch up" from all the "to-dos"? That is me lately! But I'm grateful to be popping into your inbox & ear, as I share a new podcast episode with you. In Episode 176, I discuss the concept of a True-up Tuesday! This is like a start of the week check-in with you to ensure you are aligning your goals with where you are headed as you press forward in the creation of your best self. I always find Tuesday check-ins to be better than Monday check-ins because... well, Monday has the blues & the shenanigans! There is a TON of pressure that Monday brings. Tuesday is just Tuesday! I mean think about the last time you missed a goal that you promised yourself you would start "next Monday". Then the day comes & goes & you feel like a failure (again) pushing it to the next week. But how about just starting over on Tuesday?! How about having a Tuesday true-up? In this episode, I provide a tangible reflection that you can work through to help you check your priorities & get working on your wants, dreams & desires no matter what day of the week! ~ STOP believing the lie that being productive means being successful. Stop believing the lie that you have to DO more & BE more in order to find happiness & therefore BE worthy. Stop believing the lie that you have to please everyone else & get everything done perfectly in order to "arrive". ~ You are allowed to heal & grow. You are allowed to forgive & grieve. You are allowed to love others while also learning to honor yourself & your body with adequate nourishment. You are allowed to have a crappy Monday & to start again on Tuesday without any judgement. ~ Ask yourself this question: "What do I need to do LESS of this week, so that I can do MORE of the thing that is going to get me to freedom?" ~ Put down that checklist & pick up your notebook for this one! I promise to leave you inspired, motivated & ready for whatever the rest of the week brings your way. xo, lindsey Find All the Things -> wwww.herbestself.co ______ Coach with Me ->Client Application ______ Email me directly -> info@lindseynichol.com ______ Join the free FB community -> www.herbestselfsociety.com ______ Need a helping hand guiding you girl!? | EP 175: Coaching Over Coffee ~ “What to Do to Increase Portion Sizes & UP Your Food Intake When You “Aren’t Feeling It” | 11 Oct 2024 | 00:18:13
Hey girl HEYY! How is your Friday? I hope it is starting out oh soooo well! But to make it even better, I'd love for you to join me in another coaching over coffee episode on the HBS podcast today! If you are new here, I just wanted to hop into your inbox to say THANK YOU for listening to the Her Best Self Podcast! & if you are a veteran, I am so grateful that you trust in me week after week to bring you juicy, raw & real content that you can binge on to help support your relationship with food & your body. ~ In Coaching over Coffee, Episode 175 I answer the question: "What Can I Do To Increase Portion Sizes & Up my Food Intake When I'm Just Not 'Feeling It'?" ~ Here is a hint, (but I encourage you to listen to the full episode still): If you find yourself here, this is typically because you have a deep routed fear that if you increase food, you will gain weight. I mean, what if you don't know how to stop eating? Gosh, have I been there! What you are experiencing, I have also experienced. This comes from ED & the only way around it is to shift your perspective & begin to accept that maybe your body just isn't supposed to be controlled, forced or manipulated into a size. When you live life from a place of restriction...you believe you aren't allowed to have something, you shame yourself & you go against what it is you actually want....CONTROL, PEACE & FREEDOM. Body Acceptance is Key! But increasing your food gradually is also very helpful! ~ You can learn to embrace nourishment & to honor your body in all that it DOES for you! If you are looking for practical tips to help you with reframing your thoughts around food intake, then today's show is perfect for you. I hope this episode gives you more permission to do the next right thing! I believe in you :) ~ Listen in to this one & don't forget to come share your thoughts & feedback with us in our private facebook community! & if you have a question you'd like to have answered on the pod, you can shoot me an email directly at info@lindseynichol.com. xo, lindsey Find All the Things -> wwww.herbestself.co ______ Coach with Me ->Client Application ______ Email me directly -> info@lindseynichol.com ______ Join the free FB community -> www.herbestselfsociety.com ______ Need a helping hand guiding you girl!? | EP 174: The Journey to Your Best Self Starts With Recognizing You Are Worthy "Just Because" - Thank You Lauren Daigle for Today's Reminder! | 08 Oct 2024 | 00:18:33
Oh hey sis! A new day awaits us! & I cannot wait to share with you one of my most favorite songs: "You Say" by Lauren Daigle. If you do nothing else today, listen to this song as you clean the kitchen, go for a walk, or relax in child's pose. Speaking of yoga...I was doing my usual downward dogging, when this hit my playlist & brought me so many feels. I just knew I must share the lyrics with you! ~ I keep fighting voices in my mind that say I'm not enough Every single lie that tells me I will never measure up Am I more than just the sum of every high and every low Remind me once again just who I am because I need to know Ooh-oh You say I am loved when I can't feel a thing You say I am strong when I think I am weak And you say I am held when I am falling short And when I don't belong, oh You say I am Yours And I believe Oh, I believe What You say of me I believe...~ This song inspired me to record Episode 174, where I share with you truths of finding self worth within you & moving from a false sense of self to your absolute BEST self! I walk you through a mindfulness technique to ground you & encourage you. + if you struggle with never feeling good enough, or as if you are constantly failing, today's show will bring you peace & guide you forward to embrace self-compassion, so that you start showing up differently, while believing you deserve more for your life. Here is the real honest fact: You do deserve more! ~ Sis, when you challenge & change what is inside of you, things actually change around you. You are worth fighting for. You are worth loving. There is a radical need for your uniqueness in this world. Hey girl! I hope you are rolling into Friday with fire under you as you fight the good fight of navigating freedom from disordered eating. Reality -> breaking free from controlling thoughts & behaviors is tough! & the fact that you are hanging in there is proof that freedom from this CAN & WILL happen in your life. In today's episode, I discuss the 4 "P's" that are pivotal in your recovery journey, & perfection is NOT one of them! You see, maybe you don't have the full & complete roadmap to recovery "just yet", but with these 4 critical elements you will be that much closer to finding the freedom you so desperately deserve. | EP 173: What a Falling Acorn Taught Me About Fresh Starts & What To Do When You Don't "Trust the Process" of Change | 01 Oct 2024 | 00:19:06
Hello there friend! Happy OCTOBER 1st! Ahhh how the season is changing here in Virginia! The leaves are starting to fall along with other things...lol, which brings me to my first question... Have you ever been hit upside the head by an acorn? I sure hope not! It's not the most pleasant experience - haha. This happened to me on my morning walk today & it was if nature itself gave me a big "ah ha" breakthrough. You see, if I'm completely transparent with you, lately I've been coming up against some pretty big & terrifying changes in my life & business. & if I'm honest, I've been avoiding & procrastinating & getting tired of trusting the process. So much so, I've questioned if I'm even on the right path in the first place. Have you ever found yourself here? Questioning if the future you want is more than just a dream? The question I asked myself this morning while reflecting was: What does it actually mean to "trust the process"? I mean, does the process even know you are trusting it? ~ The truth is our minds love FACTS, & therefore it can be really hard to release control & trust details of your life to the unknown...even if you believe that God has your back. In Episode 173, I share very real details of what I learned on my morning walk & what to do when you find yourself wanting to "trust the process", but you just...don't yet! ~ The good news: seasons change sis....& so do you! ~ I encourage you to listen in to today's show & allow yourself to be present in the moment as I share my story with you. I'm so honored for your listen of the podcast & hope you send this one to someone you love! + I would love for you to reply back here if you enjoy Episode 173! with recovery hugs, lindsey __________________________________ Find All the Things -> wwww.herbestself.co ______ Coach with Me ->Client Application ______ Email me directly -> info@lindseynichol.com ______ Join the free FB community -> www.herbestselfsociety.com ______ Need a helping hand guiding you girl!? | EP 170.5: How Do You Want to Be Remembered? It’s Not Too Late! Build a TRUE Legacy Beyond Body Image & Reclaim Your Life [REPLAY] | 20 Sep 2024 | 00:15:14
Oh girl how I am ready for Friday! How about you? I can’t wait to share with you one of my fav topics today on the podcast: LEGACY! But what does this have to do with finding freedom from disordered eating patterns and behaviors? Well, it’s so important that you develop your “why” in recovery, so that you push yourself to leave behind the best version of yourself one day to those who love you! You see, you have a choice right now sister, do you want to stay trapped in the cycle of disordered eating, or do you want to become transformed into who you were made to be? If there is a gap from where you are now to where and who you want to be in the future, today's podcast episode is FOR YOU! You are not your body. You are not your things. You are not your problems. You are not your past. You are not your fears. You are not your unhealthy relationship with food. ~ In Episode 170.5, I talk about leaving a LEGACY. I discuss laying down false ideals and beliefs, so that you can reclaim your life, and make it worth living, while you still have the time. Freedom is yours sweet friend! The truth is...people remember how you make them feel, not how your body looks or what size your pants are. The truth is...when you put your head on your pillow each night, only you can be proud of you and make the daily choice to rise again the next morning, fierce and ready to take action against those obsessive thoughts inside of your head. The truth is...all of us will leave a legacy behind one day. What will yours be? Be remembered for the things that matter. (Unlike the number on the scale.) | EP 169: Did You Know That You Have the Possibility to Recover? LISTEN IN for Hope, Testimonies & Truth | 13 Sep 2024 | 00:11:14
Hey love! I'm honored to have your listen of today's episode on the Her Best Self podcast. Typically, I feel a prompting as I'm about to sit down & record the show to prep a certain topic & I dive right in to my zone of genius to show up for you & provide you with all the BEST content. Yet, today when I sat down it felt different. I felt completely called to serve someone today. I felt called to lean in & whisper to YOU. I felt prompted to share straight to your heart from mine, that recovery from food controlling your life is POSSIBLE. &, I felt committed to providing you with hope, love, encouragement, & inspiration for when you just aren't "feeling" it. Because life & freedom from an eating disorder isn't linear. You will have days where you are on top of the world & days where you don't want to get dressed. But listen in girl... You did NOT come this far, to only come this far. You did NOT walk this path for this long, to walk away without victory. You did NOT find my show by coincidence. Don't you see? It's all part of the plan. It's all part of your story. You are here for a purpose & a reason. You were called to live a BOLD life. A BIG life. A life not revolved around shrinking your body to make you feel valued. Your very BEST & true self doesn't need to be controlled, manipulated, maintained or micromanaged. You see, the biggest lie I ever believed was a smaller me was a better me. It was indeed a "different" me. But it didn't make me happier. Friend, I pray today that you have the courage to break the patterns that are no longer serving you & that you start showing YOU who you truly are. This is your time! ~ Thank you so much for your listen to the show girl & don't forget to come on out to our private FB community, www.herbestselfsociety.com & share a win from your week! I'll talk to you real soon girl! xo, lindsey

| EP 165: Coaching Over Coffee ~ ”How Do I Accept My Body & Continue to Make the Right Choices When I Feel Myself Gaining Weight?" | 27 Aug 2024 | 00:18:34 | |
Hey girl HEYY! How is your week starting? I hope so very well! But to make it even better, I'd love for you to join me in another coaching over coffee episode on the HBS podcast today! ~ In Coaching over Coffee, Episode 165 I answer the question: "How do I accept my body & continue to make the right choices when I feel myself gaining weight?" ~ Here is a hint, (but I encourage you to listen to the full episode still): If you find yourself questioning this part of the recovery process the first step is to understand how recovery works. ~ Newsflash sis... "Your body is NOT your masterpiece, your life is." ~Glennon Doyle ~ Reality is, you can continue to trust the process even if you don't love the process. You can trust that this is what is healthy for you & what is best for you long term. Your body was never meant to fit into your idea of perfection. Once you allow it to be free, is when you can experience true healing. I hope this episode gives you more permission to do the next right thing! | EP 164: Reframe Your Recovery With These 10 Powerful Mindset Shifts for Healing & Growth✨ | 20 Aug 2024 | 00:17:11
Ohhh Happy Day! Or is it? I hope you are hanging in there sis! In my neck of the woods, my mom turned 70 today & I caught myself going down a long dark hole of the "what ifs" & negative thoughts. I found myself wondering just how many more years I had left with her. But I stopped myself mid-thought cycle & held the negative Nancy committee captive in my mind while I REFRAMED to something way more powerful & positive. Research tells us that 95% of our thoughts are set on repeat every single day & out of all of those, nearly 80% are negative....freaking wow! Am I right? What this means is you will continue to allow those negative thoughts to impact your life UNTIL you change the song & rewrite the lyrics. In Episode 164 of the Her Best Self Podcast, I share 10 recovery reframes for you to leverage TODAY that will have you changing your perspective & your life. This one is full of truth, so make sure to grab a notebook & pen so that you can use some of these phrases this week when you find yourself revisiting those old recycled lies. | EP 163.5: The #1 Step to Take in ED Recovery + Faith, Vulnerability & Overcoming Shame [MUST Listen REPLAY] | 16 Aug 2024 | 00:19:46
Hey Girl, Do you live with guilt or shame from unhealthy patterns or disordered behaviors with food? Do you try to control your food intake only to end up frustrated and like you have failed at life? I hate what this cycle does to so many of us women. In Episode 163.5 of the HBS podcast, I get vulnerable AGAIN and share the good stuff! I talk about my personal faith & how I struggled to believe God even cared about me at my worst with anorexia. But the most epic message of today's show is the topic of total surrender. Sis, in order to find complete freedom from disordered eating, you must trust in something other than yourself to get through it. In order to find complete freedom, you must let go and surrender your plans, for plans that are far greater than what you can even imagine for your life. You see, the first step to recovery....begins with surrender. Surrender your power and false sense of control, so that HE can create something NEW in you. True change comes from true identity. You were created for MORE. Trust the one who created you. You weren't born to be the best at being sick. I hope this episode hits you differently today friend! Would you mind sharing it with a friend in your life that you feel it may bless? I would be so very honored. | EP 160.5: Find Hope in the Journey to Freedom ~ HBS Interview with Jacqueline Sherman - PART 2 | 02 Aug 2024 | 00:23:53
Hey sis! I sure do hope that you didn't miss Episode 160 of the podcast that launched Tuesday, where I speak with Jacqueline Sherman as our special guest in PART 1 of her story. As a follow-up from that convo, I'm sharing with you PART 2 today! Jacqueline Sherman has an inspiring story about overcoming an eating disorder rooted in challenging family dynamics that left her feeling voiceless. At 15, during her parents' divorce, she turned to bingeing and purging to cope with the chaos. Despite trying various treatment centers and Overeaters Anonymous, real change came only after working with her therapist, Anita Johnston, who helped her identify the underlying needs driving her behaviors. Through dedicated effort, she learned to advocate for herself, set boundaries, and practice self-compassion, even when it felt forced. Her resilience is evident in her numerous comebacks after relapses, and today she enjoys a fulfilling life with a loving marriage, rewarding career, and genuine self-acceptance. Her story offers hope that full recovery from an eating disorder is possible and underscores the importance of patience and persistence in the journey to self-love. ~ In today's show, we talk through so many things. | EP 160: End the Emotional Eating Cycle, Heal From Past Trauma & Use Your Voice to Show up for Life ~ HBS Interview with Jacqueline Sherman - PART 1 | 30 Jul 2024 | 00:30:22
Hey sis! Do I have a special guest for you today on the Her Best Self Pod! Through dedicated effort, Jaq learned to advocate for herself, set boundaries, and practice self-compassion, even when it felt forced. Her resilience is evident in her numerous comebacks after relapses, and today she enjoys a fulfilling life with a loving marriage, rewarding career, and genuine self-acceptance. Jaq's story offers hope that full recovery from an eating disorder is possible and underscores the importance of patience and persistence in the journey to self-love. ~ In today's show, we talk through so many things. | EP 159: Coaching Over Coffee ~ ”What Do I Do When The 'Voice' Inside of My Head Gets Louder & Louder?" [REPLAY] | 23 Jul 2024 | 00:17:43
Hi lady! How is the start of your week going so far? I hope you are embracing summer in all the chaotic, yet somewhat relaxing vibes it brings. This past week, a listener of the Her Best Self Podcast wrote in asking the question: "What do I do when the "voice" inside of my head gets louder & louder? I've been trying to navigate healing from disordered eating but the voice doesn't go away. Any help or feedback you could give on the show would be wonderful!" So to answer your question sweet friend, today I'm sharing the perfect episode replay, where I discuss 6 Tips (+ a bonus tip) on how you can tell that "voice" to sit down & shut up! The truth, according to researchers is that over 90% of individuals with an eating disorder, or those who suffer from disordered eating, experience a self-critical inner voice that can be distinguished from self-critical thoughts or cognitions. According to an article in medium.com, researchers have proposed that as the illness progresses, these unhealthy thoughts (thoughts that motivate eating disordered behavior's which may initially have seemed reasonable or even desirable) are replaced by the experience of hearing a ‘voice’ that is threatening & abusive, dictating & compelling the person to act in ways they recognize are unreasonable & which cause them significant distress. So with this in mind, I knew I MUST share with you what exactly YOU can do about those pesky thoughts & that mean girl voice. Tune in today sis to learn how you can separate this false reality from your TRUE reality & identity. & if you are looking for more support, go straight to my website, & apply for 1:1 coaching, so that we can work together to help heal your relationship with food & body! xo, lindsey Find All the Things -> www.herbestself.co ______ Coach with Me ->https://www.lindseynichol.com/apply-for-coaching ______ Email me directly -> info@lindseynichol.com ______ Join the free FB community -> www.facebook.com/groups/herbestselfsociety/ ______ Need a helping hand guiding you girl!? Sis, the truth is...if you aren't okay asking for help with your secret struggle of food controlling your life...then your why isn't big enough & you aren't committed enough. (SIGH...I said it!) It's not enough to hope for a happy & a healthy future....it requires uncomfortable action every.single.day. | EP 156: Coaching Over Coffee ~ ”How Do I Know if I’m Eating Enough or if I'm Overeating?" | 09 Jul 2024 | 00:18:34
Hey girl HEYY! How is your week starting? I hope so very well! But to make it even better, I'd love for you to join me in another coaching over coffee episode on the HBS podcast today! ~ In Coaching over Coffee, Episode 156, I answer the question: "How do I know if I'm eating enough or overeating?" ~ Here is a hint, (but I encourage you to listen to the full episode still): If you find yourself questioning if you should have another bite or more than what you currently are eating...the answer is YES. You have permission sis! & NO this doesn't mean you are binging. What you are experiencing, I have also experienced. This comes from a scarcity mindset. & what you need is to work your way up to a goal that makes sense for you. When you live life from a place of lack...you believe you aren't allowed to have something or you are afraid you won't have enough of something, you go against what it is you actually want....ABUNDANCE and FREEDOM of that very thing. This rule is a classic ED tactic, but you are capable of changing it! Reality is, if you haven't allowed yourself prior permission....now is the time & when your body is questioning if you've had enough or more than enough it's usually a sign it just wants permission for more. THIS IS A GOOD THING! | EP 149.5: Are You in Quasi-Recovery? Must Listen **REPLAY** The “Messy Middle” & the Key to Becoming Fully Free✨ | 13 Jun 2024 | 00:20:54
Hey sis, Theodore Roosevelt once said, "Believe you can, and you're half way there." & while I completely agree...BELIEF is of utter important in order to find complete food freedom, the other half of the equation is trusting the process & fully surrendering to the outcome. No matter what. In today's episode, I discuss the "messy middle" & what it means to be in "quasi" or partial recovery from disordered eating. Maybe you are just beginning the journey of wanting to break the chains from food & your thoughts around food & your body controlling your life. Or maybe, you have been struggling for a while. No matter where you sit right now friend, in order to find LASTING freedom - I believe you must fully surrender. You can't expect full transformation if you have only been open to half-way change. This took me YEARS to figure out in my own journey & recovery process & I don't want any more time to go by for you where you aren't living your very best life! Today is the day to stop living with one foot in and the other foot out of your DREAM. Yeah sis, the dream life where you aren't consumed with thoughts around your body. The life where you aren't obsessed with what to eat or when to eat it or if you will allow yourself to have it. The life where food is fuel & health is strength. You deserve freedom. TOTAL freedom. TRUE freedom. Not half-way freedom. Tune in to today's replay of Episode 59 if you have been living in a state of idle & you are ready to surrender to what is so that you can embrace all that is yet to come. I hope today's show touches your soul & uplifts you as you commit to your BEST recovered self. with love & hugs, lindsey Find All the Things -> wwww.herbestself.co ______ Coach with Me ->Client Application ______ Email me directly -> info@lindseynichol.com ______ Join the free FB community -> www.herbestselfsociety.com ______ Need a helping hand guiding you girl!? | EP 149: The Most Powerful Commitment You Will Ever Make With You ~ It’s Time to Stand in Agreement! | 10 Jun 2024 | 00:16:53
Hi friend! So before I bring you all the truth bombs on this Monday, I want you to know just how much I am thankful for you! It's days like today, where I am reminded how blessed I truly am. It's days like today, where I get to show up here for you & remind you how blessed you truly are too! Yesterday at my oldest son's baseball tournament, I got the opportunity to talk about Her Best Self Co. & all that we are doing in the business to love on women all across the globe. I felt empowered, honored & proud to share love on another woman as I cheered my son on from the sidelines. It was a remarkable day! But I was reminded that not so long ago, I myself was trapped. I had to hit rock bottom & rebuild my life...I had to make an AGREEMENT with me. Fast forward to the present, I'm in awe of how amazing it is to love on you sweet friend & provide inspiration to you. Inspiration that I longed for when I was struggling with my eating disorder. ~ Oh, & yes, I forgot to mention my son's team won the big trophy & you would have thought it was one million dollars in cash! Those 10 year old faces dripped with sweat & bliss. They were champions! Winners! They grew a little bit wiser & with a little more confidence, as they cheered, huddled & cried on the field after the game. But before they became champions, they had to stand in agreement of exactly what they wanted. & the same goes for you sis! Today on the podcast, I share with you the MOST powerful commitment you will EVER make with you! This one is oh so good! (& yes, I'm sorta bias) ~ You see, if you struggle with thoughts about food controlling your life, then you have most likely spent so much brain energy arguing for your limitations & standing in agreement with the enemy. It's time to take your power back! ~ I want you to breathe in & breathe out...& listen in to Episode 149 if you want a TRUE transformation in your heart & in your life today! Matthew 18:19 say's it best: " I tell you, that if two of you agree here on earth about ANYTHING, whatever you ask for, it WILL BE DONE." I'm believing IN AGREEMENT with you for your recovery freedom. xo, lindsey Find All the Things -> wwww.herbestself.co ______ Coach with Me ->Client Application ______ Email me directly -> info@lindseynichol.com ______ Join the free FB community -> www.herbestselfsociety.com ______ Need a helping hand guiding you girl!?
