Ep 208 - Transparency: What Women Want From Their Job Search, with guest Gemma Lloyd
17 Nov 2025
00:17:47
WORK180 is taking the mystery out of your job search - because you deserve to know how equitable an organisation really is, before you apply for roles.
My guest today is Gemma Lloyd CEO and co-founder of WORK180, a specialised jobsite used by over 1.5m women globally to find roles that align with their core values. WORK180 champions workplace transparency and publishes data regarding pay gap, workplace benefits and leadership equity.
In this episode, Gemma:
Explains key findings from WORK180's annual What Women Want report as well as the three biggest priorities for women when deciding on a new employer
Talks to the fact that WORK180 endorsed companies are able to build trust more effectively by being transparent and by actively increasing women's representation - she also outlines what else these companies are doing differently to attract female talent
Gemma, on the transparency women want:
"There's been such a distrust built over the years where employers have put out these flashy branding materials around how they support people but not really walking the talk. On our platform, we rank over 7000 employers [on a number of measures such as] their paid-parental leave policy; their promotion rates of women; pay; and other policies and support so that women have that knowledge before they apply for a role."

Ep 207 - 7 Consistent Challenges Resulting in Leadership Fatigue
10 Nov 2025
00:17:13
Leaders are running on fumes. There are plenty of reasons why plenty of leaders are feeling fatigued right now. In this ep, I am exploring my observations of the issues many clients are struggling with and some ideas to combat it.
We are talking about:
Navigating constant change and tech moving faster than policy or skill development
Dilemmas surrounding forging team connection and collaboration
The increased need for 'ambiguity tolerance'
Making time to be strategic and not getting caught up in the detail
Communicating clearly and consistently
Focusing on EQ skills and resilience
Manging diverse expectations
And maintaining an authentic leadership style (despite all the above!)
Rebecca on leading through ambiguity:
"Ambiguity tolerance has become a core leadership skill because being able to have all the data, or having clear answers at your fingertips, is becoming rarer. The speed at which execution is needed also has leaders expected to make confident decisions even when data is incomplete. If you are feeling the tug of expectations, you are not alone." 08 Sep 2025
00:13:04
Leadership isn't always about setting big picture strategy and chairing Town Hall meetings: it's also about taking leadership micro-steps and getting the basics right.
In today’s episode, we are talking about the essential value of effective communication and accountability.
We are talking about:
The Effective 4-Step Communication Loop
How to reinspire a team
The value of over-communication
The Communication-Assumption-Trap
How to motivate less motivated team members
And more!
Something Rebecca said today:
"Your goal with your communication is not to share an instruction. Your goal is to be understood and inspire action." (Rebecca Allen, host - Her Ambitious Career Podcast)

Ep 108 - The Critical Difference Between Wanting & Needing To Be Liked
23 Oct 2023
00:16:23
Welcome to Her Ambitious Career, the personal branding and success podcast for corporate women who want to get promoted, be sought out for their expertise and be paid appropriately for their impact.
Hi there! I'm Rebecca Allen and I am a Career & Personal Brand coach who works with my clients to help them thrive in their roles and build their executive profiles... which often requires us to do some work on their mindset.
A common challenge that many of these smart, qualified, high-achieving women encounter is the 'need to be liked'.
In this episode I am diving deep to explain the difference between 'wanting' and 'needing' to be liked...
And how wanting to be liked is actually really healthy and productive...
Whilst needing to be liked just brings with it untold anxiety and feelings of inadequacy.
Here's something interesting I said in this ep! :)
"Needing to be liked, where the expectation is that everyone will like you (as well as everything you say) means you’re always seeking control and certainty… which just sets you up to fail because in reality, we have none of either."(Rebecca Allen, Career Success Coach and host of Her Ambitious Career podcast)
If you have ever wanted to get over this 'need to be liked', this is the ideal starting point for you!
Let's get started!

Ep 107 - 'Introverted Leader: How to Tap Into Your Strengths Part 2' with guest Judith Sturman
09 Oct 2023
00:19:57
Welcome to Her Ambitious Career, the personal branding and success podcast for ambitious corporate women who expect more from their careers.
My guest today is Judith Sturman, who is sharing her experiences as a successful introverted leader.
Despite most corporate cultures favouring an extroverted communication style (think presenting to a group; being asked for an opinion on the spot; being expected to 'take part' in group or team activities), introverts can thrive professionally and in leadership.
Judith and I are continuing our discussion about tapping into introverted leadership strengths and exploring:
How leaders should see introversion as another vital aspect of diversity and be consciously looking to include introverts in the discussion
The many strengths of an introverted leadership style including planning, strategy and forward thinking
The natural gift of introverts to value 'manging down' to get great results
Networking as an introvert and how to make connections with less effort
Judith says: "There are many strengths of an introverted style including strategic thinking, planning and forward thinking. Introverts can help themselves by telling their boss or their team of their preferred ways of communicating to set expectations from the outset." (Judith Sturman, guest on Her Ambitious Career podcast)

Ep 106 - 'How to Dramatically Reduce Leadership-Stress', with me Rebecca Allen, Career Success Coach for Corporate Women
25 Sep 2023
00:19:43
Welcome to Her Ambitious Career, the personal branding and success podcast for corporate women who want to get promoted, be sought out for their expertise and be paid appropriately for their impact.
Hi there! I am Rebecca Allen and I am a Career & Personal Brand coach who works with my clients to help them thrive in their roles and build their executive profiles as they do it...
Today we are exploring 10 common challenges leaders face that can result in feelings of stress...
· Uncertainty
· Expectations
· Changing goalposts
· Difficult people.... to name a few.
I am going to share some strategies today to help you reduce your feelings of overwhelm and stress by following my simple '5 Cs' process to help you turn a perceived 'stressful' situation into a positive, objective solution-solving mission!
Here's something interesting I said in this ep! :)
"A situation can be 'challenging' and 'full of a myriad of problems'. However how we choose to perceive that situation is what prompts us to react either positively, with a step-by-step solution mindset that leads to a feeling of control... or to react in a defeated, overwhelmed mindset that leads to a feeling of stress." (Rebecca Allen, Career Success Coach and host of Her Ambitious Career podcast)
This is about moving from an emotional standpoint and saying "a situation is stressful"...
To... "this is a tricky situation [objective perspective] and how I choose to approach it won't make me feel stressed... but objective and optimistic!"
Let's get stuck in!

Ep 105 - 'Introverted Leader: How to Tap Into Your Strengths Part 1', with guest Judith Sturman
11 Sep 2023
00:19:33
Welcome to Her Ambitious Career, the personal branding and success podcast for ambitious corporate women who expect more from their careers.
My guest today is Judith Sturman, a leader with 30 years' experience, who is sharing her insights into becoming a successful introverted leader.
Despite most corporate cultures favouring an extroverted communication style (think presenting; being asked for your opinion on the spot; taking part in big group discussions), introverts can thrive professionally, and in leadership too.
Which is why Judith and I have come together for this 2-part series to discuss her thoughts and experiences around:
The bias of extroversion and introversion
How to be confident in sharing your opinions as an introvert
Techniques to involve everyone in a team discussion
How rotating a meeting-Chair can be beneficial to the whole team
The value of diversity (including both extroverted and introverted styles) and the ability to challenge thinking
How collaborating and asking others for their input is a strength
The value of managing both up and down
Judith says: "Being asked to contribute into meetings as an introvert can send your heart pounding. You might question whether what you have to say is important enough. But over my career, I had people who encouraged me to speak up and that's my advice: don't give up and share your value!" (Judith Sturman, guest on Her Ambitious Career podcast)

Ep 104 - 'The Barbie Movie: A Masterpiece or 'Feminist Garbage'?', with me Rebecca Allen, Career Success Coach for Corporate Women
28 Aug 2023
00:16:41
Welcome to Her Ambitious Career, the personal branding and success podcast for corporate women who want to get promoted, be sought out for their expertise and be paid appropriately for their impact.
The name on everybody’s lips is ‘Barbie’.
If you haven’t yet seen the new Barbie movie, I’d don your bright pink top and book a ticket quick.
Barbie is fast-becoming the highest grossing movie of 2023, hauling US$1BILLION in just over 2 weeks at the box office and is already the highest grossing movie directed by a female director (Greta Gerwig).
Unsurprisingly, it has got a lot of women - and men - talking… and for good reason.
In this episode I am sharing all my (many!) observations about the story, characters, gender stereotypes, challenging unfair expectations and THAT scene where Barbie is told to 'get back in her box'...
Join me! Rebecca x
P.S. Hi, I am a Career & Personal Branding Expert and I coach corporate women to get promoted, and paid appropriately, faster.
Gender discrimination is everywhere (despite it being the 21st century). Progress is being made but in many places, it is slow.
To advance in your career - and indeed in life - it’s really important that we women don’t internalise that discrimination. In other words, that we don’t adopt those discriminatory and sexist views as our own.
As Ken reminds us all, you are Kenough.
And you are: you’re more than qualified, smart enough and ready enough and if you aren’t getting the support you need to succeed, find other ways and opportunities to get it.
Ep 103 - 'Optimism in Redundancy: Positive Strategies to Move Forwards Fast', with guest Arthi Raghu
14 Aug 2023
00:18:38
Welcome to Her Ambitious Career, the personal branding and success podcast for ambitious corporate women who expect more from their careers.
My guest today is Arthi Rahgu who was recently made redundant from Linkedin's workforce.
Arthi says: "Going through a layoff is like experiencing trauma. I felt ashamed, embarrassed and as if I wasn't worthy. And I decided to welcome those feelings in without going straight into problem-solving mode." (Arthi Raghu, guest on Her Ambitious Career podcast)
Arthi's attitude towards the redundancy is surprisingly positive - so much so, that I asked her to come onto the show to share her experience with us, along with a number of practical strategies she's employing to adjust to her new circumstance.
In this episode...
We are talking about accepting those feelings of rejection, uncertainty, shame and fear when you lose your job
How to value your sense of worth, beyond your job title, "I am not defined by my job."
How to help your process by looking at a redundancy positively and objectively
Learning how to acknowledge your transferable value
How reaching out to other people can really help you through a period of change, like a redundancy
How to address a redundancy in a future job interview
Arthi says: "How I look at it: at my old company, I was just a piece of the puzzle and then the puzzle changed a little bit and so I'm no longer needed there and that's okay. All those skills and experiences still come with me to my next venture." (Arthi Raghu, guest on Her Ambitious Career podcast)

00:25:15
Welcome to Her Ambitious Career, the personal branding and success podcast for ambitious corporate women who expect more from their careers.

Working in a high-achieving culture can be exhausting and operating with a constant heightened sense of emotion isn't sustainable...
So how do you protect your well-being whilst also keeping up with the pace and delivering results for your company?
Sharon says: "For everyone in a corporate environment psychological safety, fatigue and stress are all prevalent. (Sharon Ponniah, Partner PwC, guest on Her Ambitious Career podcast)
In this episode...
Sharon talks about how to escalate your wellbeing concerns if necessary
How to identify stress levels and recognise the physiological and emotional symptoms of fatigue

Ep 197 - Leadership Fundamentals (Part 1): Integrity & Self-Awareness
01 Sep 2025
00:15:14
Leadership isn't always about setting big picture strategy and chairing Town Hall meetings: it's also about taking leadership micro-steps and getting the basics right.
In today’s episode, we are talking about the importance of both integrity and self- awareness for leaders.
We are talking about:
Assessing your strengths and weaknesses
Being curious and actively asking for feedback
Reviewing your impact on other people
Challenging bias - both your own and from others
Championing the fair treatment of everyone
And behavioural consistency to build trust... and so much more!
Something Rebecca said today:
"Bias is like looking at the world through a spyglass; once you remove the spyglass, you suddenly see the world differently. As a leader, it's critical to be regularly reviewing how you're seeing and doing things. What is your impact on others? Are you behaving consistently? Are you building, or eroding trust? These are all fundamental questions to be asking yourself every day." (Rebecca Allen, host - Her Ambitious Career Podcast)

Ep 97 - 'How to Pivot to a More Stretching Career Opportunity When You Exhaust Your Current Role' with guest Angela Sagoe-Crentsil
12 Jun 2023
00:17:05
Welcome to Her Ambitious Career, the personal branding and success podcast for ambitious corporate women who expect more from their careers.
My guest today is Angela Sagoe-Crentsil, Partner at PwC Melbourne and we are talking about how to proactively create a new opportunity in your career when you have hit the ceiling of your current role.
In this episode, Angela and I explore:
Understanding your value proposition
Don't be afraid to pivot to other opportunities if you think they will help further your career
Knowing the difference between a 'mediocre' and a 'genuinely stretching' career opportunity
Acknowledging that 'value' doesn't need to be something gargantuan(!) to be valuable - value often comes in small actions
Getting the support you need to achieve your ambitions
Driving the outcomes of your career (rather than waiting for them to happen)
Angela says: "Spend the time trying to understand what makes you valuable. It can be your EQ, your team building or relationship building; it can be anything. But take the time to understand, at a deep level, your value and practice verbalising that to others." (Angela Sagoe-Crentsil, guest on Her Ambitious Career podcast)

As well as sharing 5 practical strategies that you can start doing more of TODAY to build that vital trust with those around you...
I'll see you inside!
Here's something interesting I said in this ep! :)
"When your team can see you do what you say you will, it has positive repercussions elsewhere too: they will trust your decision making and follow you with greater ease in the future. And what happens if you don't act with integrity? Everything breaks down." (Rebecca Allen, Career Success Coach and host of Her Ambitious Career podcast)

Welcome to Her Ambitious Career, the personal branding and success podcast for corporate women who want to land dream opportunities in their careers and get that recognition they so deserve.
Are you delivering for organisation but missing out yourself?
Do you achieve a goal only to realise that the goalposts keep moving?
Hi there. I'm Rebecca Allen. I've been coaching corporate women for over a decade now and see a common theme emerging:
Many women are working so unbelievably hard but not feeling recognised.
Why?
In today's episode I am sharing some tips...
On how to be more strategic in your career...
So that you do get the recognition - the roles, the pay, the titles - you deserve.
Join me!
Here's something interesting I said in this ep! :)
"It's easy to fall into the trap of believing that working really hard will give you the recognition you want. What you really want to be thinking about is how you can do both: deliver for your company whilst also delivering for yourself. It's about being clear of your expectations as a result of that hard work and being proactive about chasing down those opportunities you want." 00:15:29
Welcome to Her Ambitious Career, the personal branding and success podcast for corporate women who want to build their corporate profiles and confidently get promoted into senior leadership roles.
In this episode I am talking with lawyer Selma Masood about her tips and techniques to help you become a more persuasive communicator.
When it comes to personal branding, how you communicate and how you influence and persuade other stakeholders is deeply important.
We communicate to share our ideas and build on others' ideas. We communicate too to inspire action in others and to do that, it is essential that how we speak moves those around us into action.
Selma, a lawyer used to persuading a courtroom, shares these incredible tips on:
Showing your passion for a topic by using vocal variety and gestures
Building trust by using warmth to engage your audience
Making an emotional connection: Selma shares her 'Problem + Story + Relevance' formula to demonstrate how she tries to persuade in Court, make a story seem relatable and help the audience feel a certain way
Effective body positioning when standing and speaking on a stage
Quote from this episode:
“Use your body to be more persuasive when you speak. Take up the space! If you're on a stage, move about. Use gestures to emphasise your points. You want to be engaging and create memorable content to result in an action.” (Selma Masood, guest on Her Ambitious Career podcast)

Welcome to Her Ambitious Career, the personal branding and success podcast for corporate women who want to land dream opportunities in their careers and get that recognition they so deserve.
Do you feel you get trampled on by other people? What behaviours in them are ok, and which are not? How are you contributing to that pattern too?
Today I am exploring boundaries and the impact of having weak (or non-existent) boundaries.
Where, in your life or at work, do you need to create stronger and clearer boundaries?
Is it around how other people treat you?
Accepting more work?
Your device or social media use?
Your wellbeing and self care?
How you talk to yourself?
Let's start talking about how to interrupt bad habits and start creating new ones!
Here's something interesting I said in this ep! :)
"With weak or non-existent boundaries you just go round and round in circles and the negative outcomes and costs to you are always predictable too." (Rebecca Allen, Career Success Coach and host of Her Ambitious Career podcast)

The females were unhappy with me. I said to them, 'I will 100% back you up but you need a male sponsor to do this.' We need the guys to come onboard and say this is the right way forward. We need the guys as allies and to be part of the conversation." (Tiffany Kirkwood, guest on ‘Her Ambitious Career’ Podcast)

Ep 196 - How to Confidently Make That Critical Shift to Strategic Leader, with guest Chris Lamb
25 Aug 2025
00:16:18
Have you been told you 'need to be more strategic' but don't really know what that means, or how to deliver it?
My guest today is Chris Lamb, an accomplished Chief People Officer and board director. He has worked at the most senior levels in the public and private sectors in Asia Pacific, European and global roles.
In this episode, Chris explains:
How to make the shift from operational deliverer to strategic leader
What stops people from becoming more strategic
The critical value of getting a breadth of experiences in your career
Overcoming any doubts you might have about stepping up and becoming more strategic
And how developing your strategic acumen can start boosting the opportunities you enjoy professionally
Something Chris said:
"[When you start thinking more strategically...] Firstly, you get out of the mindset of just what's happening in your team and area. You start to think instead about how your team impacts the whole organisation. Secondly, you start to think about the challenges other parts of the business are experiencing, irrespective of whether or not you have any direct contact or influence over them." 10 Apr 2023
00:15:40
Welcome to Her Ambitious Career, the personal branding and success podcast for corporate women who want to land dream opportunities in their careers and get that recognition they so deserve.
What do you do if your boss...
Won't give you that next stretching opportunity...?
Doesn't see you as 'strategic' or ready for that step up...?
Isn't giving you the chance to show what you can really do...?
I have clients who have said to me...
"Everybody seems to be happy with where I am right now... everyone from my boss right up to the VP... everyone, that is, except for me."
So if that's you.... you'll get a lot of goodness out of today's conversation.
In this episode I am sharing:
1. 5 common scenarios that mean you're feeling overlooked in your career right now
2. A discussion of how your boss could be 'pigeonholing' or 'limiting' you in your career right now
3. And 5 coaching questions you can ask yourself right now.. to help you start challenging this stalemate and getting more of the outcomes you want from your career!
Are you ready???
Here's something interesting I said in this ep! :)
"You don't want to fall victim of just assuming your boss knows what you want. Just taking on more responsibility or working even harder doesn't necessarily equate in their mind to realising you are doing all this because you actually want a promotion." 03 Apr 2023
00:27:00
Welcome to Her Ambitious Career, the personal branding and success podcast for ambitious corporate women who expect more from their lives and careers.
My guest today is Emma Walsh, CEO of Family Friendly Workplaces.
Do you wish your company offered you and your team greater flexibility?
Do you feel your company understands your needs and values?
Does your company recognise that you have a life outside of the office?
In this episode, Emma and I are talking about flexible working, work-life balance and the need, especially post-pandemic, for workplaces to recognise that employees have critical needs outside of work.
Family Friendly Workplaces has established National Accreditation, here in Australia, for those companies who want to demonstrate, to employees (and potential future employees), that they are meeting minimum standards to be considered a 'family friendly' organisation - which isn't just for parents, but for everyone.
Emma also shares how an individual might make a business case to encourage your company to seek out family friendly certification... so if you want to create change within your company, this is the episode for you!
Emma says: "Don't underestimate the power of one voice in terms of instigating change in your organisation - you won't know until you exercise that voice." (Emma Walsh, guest of Her Ambitious Career podcast)

Ep 86 - 'People-Pleasing Leadership - Is it Effective?', with me Rebecca Allen Career Coach for Corporate Women
27 Mar 2023
00:23:48
Welcome to Her Ambitious Career, the personal branding and success podcast for corporate women who want to land dream opportunities in their careers and get that recognition they so deserve.
We talk a lot in the area of effective leadership, about empathy and inclusion...
But is it possible for a leader to 'go too far' with these two behaviours?
In this episode I am talking about 'people pleasing' and how this type of behaviour can negatively impact your authority, whilst exploring too how it might indeed help you win over the trust of your team.
I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences on this topic... email us anytime @ podcast@illuminategrowth.com.au
Here's something interesting I said in this ep! :)
"People pleasing leaders have the best intentions: they want to support their teams however they can. However, when done in the extreme, people pleasing leadership can send out mixed-messages and undermine the leader's ability to actually lead." Ep 85 - 'How to Be a More Inclusive Leader', with guest Angela Sagoe-Crentsil
20 Mar 2023
00:22:26
Welcome to Her Ambitious Career, the personal branding and success podcast for ambitious corporate women who expect more from their careers.
My guest today is Angela Sagoe-Crentsil, Partner at PwC Melbourne and we are talking about how to be a more inclusive leader.
Team Inclusivity is both a leader and group behaviour aimed at encouraging everyone in a group to feel heard and as if their input matters.
Inclusivity goes straight to the heart of our deepest human values: that of belonging and validation and corporate leaders have a responsibility to ensure those values are met for each individual team player.
Inclusivity is about leveraging the diversity of a group whether that be diversity of background, gender, race, experience, expertise, culture and cognitive experience. Research has repeatedly shown that groups with greater diversity, inclusivity, and a culture of psychological safety are more effective and collaborative and ultimately produce more robust decision making.
In this episode, Angela and I explore:
Angela's experience of inclusivity in action...
Ideas on how our own biases skew our thinking...
Practical tips on how to involve everyone in a team in the discussion and to feel as if they belong...
The value of both cognitive diversity as well as a culture of healthy challenge...
And the importance of creating psychological safety in a group, allowing members to share without repercussion...
Angela says: "Inclusivity takes effort and deliberate mindfulness to catch yourself in those moments to pause and think about how to integrate each other. Inclusivity helps team members feel heard and valued which allows them to freely express themselves and then [give them the confidence to] tap into their own potential." (Angela Sagoe-Crentsil, guest on Her Ambitious Career podcast)

Ep 84 - 'Rebecca Explains Executive Coaching, Its Benefits & How Sessions Actually Work' with Rebecca Allen
13 Mar 2023
00:24:51
Welcome to Her Ambitious Career, the personal branding and success podcast for corporate women who want to land dream opportunities in their careers and get that recognition they so deserve.
Hey there! Welcome on in!
Some women ask me about coaching: what it is, how it works and all those good things...
So I have decided to record an episode explaining the whole thing!
I'm sharing:
1. The outcomes a lot of our clients achieve
2. The 'discovery' process, where you get to know me and I get to know you to see if we are a good fit for one another (I only work with you if I know I can help you)
3. Setting KPIs for our coaching together
4. The sessions themselves: how they work, how they're structured, what to expect
And a whole lot more!
Here's something interesting I said in this ep! :)
"For me, career coaching isn't just about achieving rational outcomes like 'a promotion' or 'a pay rise' (although of course they are super important). It's actually about achieving a balance between those rational outcomes and emotional outcomes too. It's about thriving as the whole you. If you focus only on those rational outcomes and goals, you'll burn out pretty quickly and will also miss learning about the beautiful you and your true potential." (Rebecca Allen, Career Success Coach and host of Her Ambitious Career podcast)

Ep 82 - 'Why Are So Many Talented, Intelligent Women Still Overlooked Professionally?' with Rebecca Allen, Career Success Coach for Women
27 Feb 2023
00:16:12
Welcome to Her Ambitious Career, the personal branding and success podcast for corporate women who want to land dream opportunities in their careers and get that recognition they so deserve.
In this episode I am exploring, from the macro level right down to the micro level, what the common barriers are to women's progress at work.
We are talking about systemic failures in many organisations (still, in the 21st Century!) to support women's needs and aspirations...
We are talking about the different 'phases' of career advice women have been given in the 80s, 90s and 00s that have failed them...
And we are talking too about the internal doubt that affects a lot of women in their bid to progress their careers.
I'd welcome your thoughts on this topic... it's so important we talk about these issues publicly and with all genders to raise awareness of these barriers. Email us on podcast@illuminategrowth.com.au - what are your thoughts?
Here's something interesting I said in this ep! :)
"Women are tired of banging the equity drum by themselves; women talking to other women about these challenges is just us talking to the converted! Men need to be part of the discussion and the solution - after all, genuine equity benefits them too in a big way." (Rebecca Allen, Career Success Coach and host of Her Ambitious Career podcast)

Ep 81 - 'Hear From My Client Jaime to Learn The Benefits of Executive Coaching'
20 Feb 2023
00:21:29
Welcome to Her Ambitious Career, the personal branding and success podcast for ambitious corporate women who expect more from their careers.
My guest today is the fabulous Jaime Chamberlain, Head of Strategy LATAM at Speyside Group, specialists in emerging markets, corporate affairs and public policy.
Jaime has come on the show today to talk about the impact working with me, as her Executive Coach, has had.
When we started coaching, Jaime had just been promoted to a Senior Leadership position and was looking for coaching support to help her navigate her various strategic and leadership challenges she now faced.
In this ep, I asked Jaime for her own career advice, should you be feeling unrecognised in your current job. Here's what she said:
"Be proactive - don't settle if you're unhappy at work. Get help! Speak to Rebecca! No-one cares about your progress as much as you so. No one else is going to help you - it's up to you to look for a new opportunity."
More from Jaime: "Your [coaching] work Rebecca has facilitated by own sense of discovery: you've guided me to make good decisions better aligned to my goals and me."
"In our sessions, it was important to reframe my skills for my new role and crucially, learning to value those skills. The work we did on goals and KPIs was new; being held accountable by you Rebecca to those KPIs and timeframes was invaluable."
"You taught me Rebecca about how to manage up: 'What are the expectations of this client or leader?' And you helped me dig deep into what these people really wanted so I could really understand what made each individual tick. Those strategies have been so helpful, I share those insights with everyone Rebecca!"
"I'm a lot more confident now; I am managing client expectations better; I am being more proactive in managing the team more effectively; and I understand my own boundaries with work... it's been an empowering process."

Ep 80 - 'High Achiever? Why Not Try Underachieving for a Change?', with Rebecca Allen Career Success Coach
13 Feb 2023
00:20:24
Welcome to Her Ambitious Career, the personal branding and success podcast for corporate women who want to land dream opportunities in their careers and get that recognition they so deserve.
A lot of women who I coach are high achievers: they want to deliver at a fast pace and consistently deliver to a very high standard - but at what cost?
I've seen, over the years, that a lot of these women are fearful that if they try a different approach, they won't get the same high results.
But what if you could?
Today I'm sharing a simple yet profound trick with you... it is SO worth trying, even for a day, if you're feeling burned out and overwhelmed and looking for an alternate way of 'being'.
Here's something interesting I said in this ep! :)
"Overachievement is thedesire to deliver at a high standard, consistently and across multiple aspects of life and work at the same time. But what if you could break that pattern of exhaustion and still deliver phenomenal results? How would things improve?" (Rebecca Allen, Career Success Coach and host of Her Ambitious Career podcast)

Ep 79 - 'Part-Time Does Not Mean Part-Talented or Part-Arsed', with guest and working mum Clare Mullarkey
06 Feb 2023
00:32:36
Welcome to Her Ambitious Career, the personal branding and success podcast for ambitious corporate women who expect more from their careers.
My guest today is Clare Mullarkey who is a Trademark Attorney based in UK, who also happens to be a mum. :)
This conversation was sparked by an article posted by Anna Whitehouse (check out her blog: Mother Pukka ) who is on a very vocal crusade in UK to highlight the inequity surrounding part time work and campaigns for flexible working for all.
Anna pointed out in her article that "part-time doesn't also mean being part-arsed or part-talented" and is a sentiment Clare and I both deeply agree with... and so are bringing our conversation to you today!
We are talking about :
Some of the experiments with flexible working being tested right now
How the Covid pandemic has helped us redefine what 'working' looks like
Looking at productivity rather than the timeframes you work
Boundaries and how important it is to be transparent about your hours
How having personal values met (such as being a present mum) actually makes you better at your job
How we are all defined by so much more than just our jobs
And how part-time or working post-children doesn't make women less ambitious...
And a whole lot more!
Clare says:
"Society is now coming at this from different angles: the traditional part-timer working mum and this new concept of the 4-day working week across an entire company.
"We need to be transparent about the hours we work - for example putting those hours in your email signature - because sharing those boundaries is important."

Ep 78 - Self-Promotion: Common Mistakes That Stop You From Being Confident with Self-Promotion
30 Jan 2023
00:20:23
Welcome to Her Ambitious Career, the personal branding and success podcast for corporate women who want to land dream opportunities in their careers and get that recognition they so deserve.
Do you worry about coming across as 'arrogant' if you self-promote?
Is your fear of being negatively judged stopping you from getting ahead professionally?
Plenty of people self-promote at work without compromising themselves, their values or authenticity...
And in this episode, I'm sharing how.
Here's something interesting I said in this ep! :)
"The fear of coming across as 'arrogant' stems from an innate human desire to fit in, to be accepted, to belong to the wider group and the belief that arrogant behaviour will threaten those deep values. which causes many people to avoid self-promotion all together." (Rebecca Allen, Career Success Coach and host of Her Ambitious Career podcast)

Ep 77 - 'What Makes a Strong Manager?', with guest Holly Stanton, Salesforce
23 Jan 2023
00:19:07
Welcome to Her Ambitious Career, the personal branding and success podcast for ambitious corporate women who expect more from their careers.
Today I am talking with Holly Stanton who is sharing her experience of what makes a strong manager by sharing key attributes of positive mentors and managers she has had throughout her career.
We are talking : * Leading with empathy * Being direct, honest and inclusive * And taking a genuine interest in supporting your team members to achieve their own ambitions.
Holly talks about her experience with an empathetic, supportive manager earlier in her career...
A second mentor, who was inclusive, open and trusting and who would coach Holly when she needed support to solve her own challenges.
A third mentor, at Salesforce, who created a psychologically safe environment for the team to thrive.
And a fourth mentor who encouraged Holly to play to her strengths and ignore her perceived weaknesses.
Career Advice from Holly:
1. Get yourself a coach - "it helps you uncover who you are and what you want to achieve!" (I had the privilege of coaching Holly over 15 years ago! Rebecca x)
2. "Understand yourself, your strengths and others' strengths."
3. Sometimes 'bad' managers can teach us a lot about how to become better managers ourselves.
Holly says:
"One of my terrible managers who micro-managed everyone [ironically] taught me the difference between 'contagious' and 'contained' managers, contagious being inspirational etc when that wasn't our experience of that manager at all!" (Holly Stanton, guest on Her Ambitious Career podcast)

Guest Bio:

Ep 76 - 'Overloaded Woman, Burned Out and 'Failing'? You're Not Alone', with Rebecca Allen
16 Jan 2023
00:15:16
Welcome to Her Ambitious Career, the personal branding and success podcast for corporate women who want to land dream opportunities in their careers and get that recognition they so deserve.
Feeling exhausted and overwhelmed is a common issue I am hearing from many women...
Is the pace achievable? Are the expectations realistic? Is it all too much?
In this episode I am exploring some of the common threads connecting many women together that are leading so many to feel exhausted and barely coping.
My purpose in this ep is to raise awareness of the challenges you may be having and how, it's (probably) not your fault you feel this way at all... could it be the lack of support systems around you?
Here's something interesting I said in this ep! :)
"Overloaded women: it's the market economy ignoring the blatant needs of the care economy. The truth is, we need both to work smoothly and efficiently or the whole system falls down." (Rebecca Allen, Career Success Coach and host of Her Ambitious Career podcast)

Ep 75 - 'How Knowing Your Money Language Can Help You Negotiate a Better Salary', with guest Julia Scott
09 Jan 2023
00:23:38
In this episode I am talking with Julia Scott about understanding your own 'Money Language'...and how learning the 'Money Languages' of your boss or customers can help you be potentially more successful in negotiating better deals or salary remuneration packages for yourself.
Who doesn't want to learn more about that?!
Once you understand your own Money Language you can learn how to ask for what you want with greater success.
Here are the 8 different personality Money Language types:
The Alchemist - they are idealists The Romantic - they spend money freely and spend for emotional purposes The Connector - a relationship connector; they have faith and optimism The Accumulator - the 'banker'; they save money to spend on meaningful things The Nurturer - they love to care for others; sponsor everyone except for themselves The Ruler - the empire builder; they have a tendency to overwork and are diligent The Celebrity - they like to flash cash The Maverick - they love to do things differently to everyone else, including money
You might have a dominant type and then 2-3 sub-types. Have a listen and see what you think your 'types' are. What do you value?
What might your boss' types be? What does s/he value? How could you use that information to your advantage when negotiating your next pay rise?
A cool quote from today's ep:
"Say your boss is a Ruler-type. S/he will value hard work and so in your salary negotiation or performance review you might talk about your track record and how your work is positively impacting the business. " (Julia Scott, guest on Her Ambitious Career podcast)

26 Dec 2022
00:35:52
In this episode, Isabelle is sharing about her own honest experience of burnout at the end of her 20-year corporate career of continuous high achievement...
And how reconnecting to herself 'below the neck' completely transformed her life.
Isabelle talks about embodied feminine leadership and how it helps women:
* Overcome feelings of inadequacy; * Being caught up in our heads; * Break overthinking loops and emotional downward spirals.
We women are saturated with expectations, societal pressure, bias, providing for our loved ones and the need to add continuous cerebral value which is why burnout is so acute in so many women.
Isabelle shares a number of techniques to help you reconnect with yourself and with your body to help you regain that wholeness necessary to thrive.
******
A beautiful quote from today's episode:
"When we are caught up in our heads we really can't attend to our deeper needs. We are constantly anticipating the needs of others but not our own, which leaves us in a vulnerable place. We feel like we are missing not, are not fully present and it eventually leads to burnout." (Isabelle Griffith, guest on Her Ambitious Career podcast)

Have your needs and ambitions changed, now you're 40?
Has the pandemic impacted your decision making and direction?

* Planning ahead and getting the direction you need for the next 20 years of your career
* How success doesn't necessarily mean a 'leadership' position - redefining what 'success' means for you and knowing how to measure success
* Asking yourself whether your current career delivers on what you most want and what you will gain
* Follow a 5 step system to help you answer that question, 'What do I want next from my career?'
Here's something that stood out for me in today's episode:

Ep 70 - '3 Ways to Ask for Your Biggest Pay Rise in 2023' with me, Career Success Coach, Rebecca Allen
05 Dec 2022
00:21:29
Welcome to Her Ambitious Career, the personal branding and success podcast for corporate women who want to land dream opportunities in their careers and get that recognition they so deserve.
Salary negotiation fills so many women with dread. Stats tell us that only 47% of women have ever negotiated their salary...
That's pretty stark...
Which is why I find it imperative that we tool-up and learn the skills of easy salary negotiation.
Yes, we live in a society that still accepts practices of bias and yes, women are still underpaid compared to their male counterparts.
I think it is ridiculous that progress is so slow...
And we can push back against that, raise awareness of the issue and even vote with our feet if we feel our corporate culture is unsupportive... or even damaging to our professional progress.
I also believe deeply in taking responsibility for the factors you absolutely can have control of... which is learning skills (whether you're a woman or man!) to improve your ability to negotiate your salary on your own behalf.
These skills are hugely important... so let's talk about it in today's episode!
Also, at my company Illuminate Personal Growth, we run a free, live and online workshop, Easy Salary Negotiation... to help corporate women like you learn the steps to confidently ask for your biggest pay rise yet! The link to read more is below!

Here's something interesting I said in this ep! :)

Ep 69 - 'How Coaching Helped Me Land My Dream Job in Investment Banking', with my client Sherrie Zheng
28 Nov 2022
00:26:10
Welcome to Her Ambitious Career, the personal branding and success podcast for ambitious corporate women who don't want to settle for mediocre opportunities and who want to fast track their careers.
I'm delighted today to welcome Sherrie Zheng, who is one of my coaching clients, to the show! She has kindly offered to be interviewed to share her experience of working with me...
Sherrie went from feeling frustrated and unsuccessfully applying to over 100 job ads... To landing a full time position in her dream industry, Investment Banking! A huge round of applause and a bunch of virtual high fives for Sherrie please!
In this ep, Sherrie talks about her growth journey as well as how she implemented a number of strategies to:
Get more strategic about her job search and stopping 'blanket applying' (she applied to over 100 jobs in 2021 and, working with me applied to fewer than 20 and had a much higher interview and conversion rate!)
Break that barrier of getting through to the interview shortlist and then landing the job!
Build her credibility with influential decision makers to fast track her opportunities
Work on her personal brand to create the perception she intended; be seen as a trusted resource
Asking for what she wants and being super proactive in her career!
Here's a standout quote from this interview:
"Your job is a big part of your life; it has to give you meaning and purpose. And what this coaching journey gave me was conviction to seek the role I really wanted. A job should energise you and I can now always look at my career through the right lens to make better decisions for myself." (Sherrie Zheng, guest on Her Ambitious Career podcast)

Ep 194 - Next-Level Interview Prep: How to Do Your Due Diligence & Assess Cultural Fit
11 Aug 2025
00:10:42
Transparency is key for women seeking new roles, in terms of the opportunity, pay, benefits and flexibility. But how do you truly assess an organisation's cultural fit during a short, 60-minute interview?
Work180's 2025 What Women Want survey found "8/10 women said they’d avoid applying for a role if they were unable to see the company’s employee benefits and workplace policies upfront (a stat that has doubled in just one year)".
In this episode I aim to give you some ways to assess an organisation's cultural fit with your own needs and ambitions.
We are talking about:
The growing importance of an organisation's social, sustainability and inclusion policies
How to assess the tangibility of an organisation's values and mission
Which influential leaders to research and why
Understanding how an organisation wishes to compete and be profitable and again, if that aligns with your own values
Something Rebecca said today:
"Women can vote with their feet and seek out employers that align more deeply with their own mission and values." (Rebecca Allen, host - Her Ambitious Career Podcast)

Ep 67 - 'Is Authentic Leadership Possible? We Say It Is', with guest Dessi Silassie, Chief DEI Officer IHS Markit
14 Nov 2022
00:14:15
Welcome to Her Ambitious Career, the personal branding and success podcast for ambitious corporate women.
Have you struggled with the concept of 'leading with authenticity'? Do you worry that you might actually need to compromise your own values in a bid to be that authentic leader?
Dessi Silassie and I talk today about how to navigate this world of authentic leadership in a way that feels natural and empowering. We explore...
How you can behave differently in different situations and still be authentic
How changing how you speak in different situations does not make you inauthentic
If you are inauthentic, you send people inconsistent messages and people begin to judge you, largely because inconsistency creates insecurity
Dessi shares an example of where she inherited a new team at a tricky time... and how deciding to lead with sincerity and honesty won the team over
Something Dessi said that was super interesting:
"I have lived in East Africa, London and Singapore. I'm a mother. A Global Leader, a lawyer, moving from a working to middle class... I am so many things! That's what makes me unique.
So 'authenticity' at work is just 'being genuine'. It doesn't mean everyone gets to see all my layers at once... but so long as I am genuine in any situation, I am being authentic." (Dessi Silassie, guest on Her Ambitious Career podcast)

Every day provides me with opportunities to be challenged and learn from others around me in a way that brings out the best version of myself."

Ep 66 - 'No KPIs? Don't Doom Your Career! How to Get Back in The Driving Seat of Your Career' with Rebecca Allen, Career Success Coach
07 Nov 2022
00:18:42
Welcome to Her Ambitious Career, the personal branding and success podcast for corporate women who want to land dream opportunities in their careers and get that recognition they so deserve.
Too many women I work with come to me without clarity of their job responsibilities and KPIs...
And I find this often happens when an internal promotion occurs, where too much information about the role is either vague or assumed, simply because BAU seems to take priority.
But it's a mistake if you don't have clarity and agreement of your role and KPIs from the get-go...
So take responsibility for your own career and write your own!
*****
Here's something interesting I said in this ep! :)
"How will you know if you've been successful in your role if your key deliverables haven't been agreed upfront? Don't fall off a glass cliff and set yourself up to fail; have a clear JD and KPIs agreed right from the get go in a new role!" (Rebecca Allen, Career Success Coach and host of Her Ambitious Career podcast)
