Psalms for the Soul: Psalm 37: Daily Bible Study, Daily Devotional, Hearing Jesus
These days it can be easy to get discouraged because of the way the evil in the world continues to thrive. Today we look to Psalm 37 where God speaks to us about this very thing. We have a God of justice, and He sees everything that is going on. I pray this episode encourages you to know how to respond when it feels like the wrong team is winning.
Today’s Key Verse:
Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4

Takeaways
Years ago, my family faced a financial struggle.
Obedience to God can feel risky but is essential.
Mary's act of anointing Jesus was a profound sacrifice.
Public worship can invite criticism, especially for women.
Mary's devotion was motivated by her relationship with Jesus.
Judas's criticism stemmed from greed, not concern for the poor.
Extravagant acts of worship may seem foolish to others.
God sees and values our heart's intentions.
The opinion of God should outweigh societal expectations.
There is always an invitation for spiritual growth.

Hey friends, welcome to the Hearing Jesus Podcast.
Do you sometimes doubt if you are truly hearing God’s voice or if it’s really your own? Do you wonder how you can know the difference? Do you struggle to feel confident in your relationship with God and what He says in his word? Do you sometimes feel stagnant or like you hit a wall in your spiritual life?
Hey, I’m your host, Rachael Groll: missionary, author, pastor, and life coach. And I have been there. I, too, was doubting God’s voice in my own life. I, too, felt insecure about the things I thought God might be calling me to do. I wanted to make a difference in the world and be obedient to what God was calling me to do, but I wasn’t quite sure how to figure out what exactly that was. I kept telling myself that I was wasting time trying to figure it out or waiting for Him to show me. Or that I wasn’t qualified to do the things I thought He might be telling me to do.
The answer for me was found in the pages of the Bible, as I learned how to understand what it was actually saying. If you are ready to grow in your faith and to step confidently into the calling God has for you, then join me as we dig deep into God’s word so you can learn to live out your faith in your everyday life.
Friend, you are loved, you are cherished, and you are His.

Summer Bible Study: A Woman of Testimony- Part 2
(Continued from yesterday)
The longest recorded conversation we have on record is between Jesus and the Samaritan woman. That’s proof that Jesus speaks to women. Jesus meets us where we are at to speak freedom over the things that have kept us bound.
My prayer is that you will see yourself through the lens that Jesus sees you.

Summer Bible Study: Your Story Matters- A Devotional Look at the Samaritan Woman
An authentic interaction with Jesus is the very thing we need to change things. It’s that very interaction that redeems us.
Heart Check:
Is there someone that God has put on your heart to share with about what God is doing in your heart? If not, pray that God would reveal someone to you. If so, commit to praying for them this week. Then, make the phone call, schedule the coffee date, and share with them what God is doing in you.

The Hearing Jesus Podcast will encourage and equip you to step into the calling God has for your life, living out your faith in the everyday. Together we will break down walls that keep us from growing spiritually. We will dig deep into our Bibles to understand and connect the Scriptures to our lives. We will boldly obey what God calls us to do, walking through doors that only He can open.
Join me for your daily dose of faith, honesty, and prayer.

Summer Bible Study: Everything Jesus does is intentional- A Devotional Look at Mary, Mother of Jesus
Today we look at Mary’s example of how to handle the seasons when God asks us to lay something down. Her example of faith helps us to surrender to what Jesus is calling us to lay down in our own lives.
Everything Jesus does is intentional. He doesn’t react, He responds.
From today’s episode:
Heart Check:
Is there an area of your life that you are hesitant to bring to Jesus? Or when you do, it’s accompanied by a justification or explanation of why you are feeling the way you do?
Let the Lord reveal the things in your life that you need to take to Him.
The role and responsibility given to Mary by God was also taken away by God.
This audio devotional is a companion to the She Hears Bible Study, today’s content is from Chapter 1- Mary- A Woman of Authority.
Mary had authority because God gave her authority. Authority is a gift from God.

In her warm, conversational style, Rachael ties together her life experience, knowledge of the Scriptures, and her compassion for women to encourage us and enable us to become the women God has called us to be.
The Hearing Jesus Podcast will encourage and equip you to step into the calling God has for your life, living out your faith in the everyday. Together we will break down walls that keep us from growing spiritually. We will dig deep into our Bibles to understand and connect the Scriptures to our lives. Summer Bible Study: God Gives Women Their Roles of Authority: A Devotional Look at Mary, Mother of Jesus
Today we are starting a new format of 5 short devotional thoughts throughout the week to help you stay connected to God’s word in a way that is quick, easy. My hope is that meditating on God’s word in the morning will help you to stay connected with Him throughout the day.
This audio devotional is a companion to the She Hears Bible Study, today’s content is from Chapter 1- Mary- A Woman of Authority.
From today’s episode:
Heart Check: Is there any bitterness or unforgiveness you are holding onto from someone judging you? Perhaps unfairly? Or have you jumped to conclusions about someone else based on one interaction? If so, let’s take that to the Lord and deal with it so we can get our hearts clear.
Mary had authority because God gave her authority. Authority is a gift from God.

| A Grand Finale of Celebration and Praise: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 150 | 02 Jun 2023 | 00:20:37 | |
A Grand Finale of Celebration and Praise: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 150
In today’s final episode of our Psalms series, we are celebrating Psalm 150 as a kind of grand finale of the Book of Psalms: it's all about praising and celebrating. Singing…. Dancing… Instruments… everyone and everything is called to praise the Lord. As we finish up this series, I pray that the message of the Psalms stays with you, and that you remember how incredibly much you are loved.
Thoughts to Journal:
How does the call to praise in Psalm 150 inspire you to deepen your connection with God? Are there specific aspects of your faith that you would like to focus on and celebrate more intentionally? In what ways do you currently express your gratitude and appreciation for the blessings in your life? Are there new ways you can incorporate acts of praise and thanksgiving into your daily life?
Today’s Key Verse:
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Psalm 150:6

| Praise and Compassion: Uncovering God’s Heart for the Vulnerable: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 146 | 29 May 2023 | 00:19:09 | |
Unleashing Praise: Revealing God's Heart for the Vulnerable - Concluding the Psalms Series: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 146
Today’s Psalm is the first of five that start and end with a call to praise the Lord. In this psalm, we see God’s heart for the vulnerable revealed. May these words encourage you to not only reach out to those that need hope from the Lord, but may they also speak hope to you when you need it most.
Thoughts to Journal:
How does the concept of God's heart for the vulnerable inspire you to extend hope and compassion to those in need? Are there any specific instances or experiences in your life where you have witnessed God's care for the vulnerable? How did it impact you? Reflect on a time when you personally felt vulnerable or in need of hope. How did God's presence and promises bring you comfort and reassurance during that season?
Today’s Key Verse:
He is the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them— He remains faithful forever. Psalm 146:6

In your journal, explore the following questions: What is the specific challenge or battle you are encountering or anticipating in your life right now? How does the imagery of God as a warrior resonate with you in relation to this challenge? Have you been leaning on your own strength or trying to handle things independently? How might your perspective change if you fully trusted in God's power and provision? Consider writing a prayer or affirmation acknowledging God as your ultimate defender and expressing your trust in His strength.

| Raw and Honest Prayers: How King David’s Example Can Transform Your Prayer Life: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 143 | 24 May 2023 | 00:21:21 | |
Raw and Honest Prayers: How King David's Example Can Transform Your Prayer Life: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 143
Psalm 143 portrays King David in a state of emotional distress - feeling low, anxious, and likely struggling to sleep as he turns to God in prayer. He acknowledges his desperation and realizes that his only hope is in God's intervention. Have you experienced a similar situation? I certainly have. I find David's example of being honest and genuine with God in our prayers inspiring. This passage reminds us that it's okay to express our deepest emotions to God and seek His help in times of need. I hope this episode brings you encouragement, particularly when you find yourself in a similar circumstance.
Thoughts to Journal:
Think about a time in your life when you felt overwhelmed, anxious, or low, just like King David in Psalm 143. How did you handle those emotions? Did you turn to God in prayer or try to manage them on your own? Reflect on what you learned from that experience and how you can apply David's example of being real and honest with God in your prayer life. Write down a prayer to God, expressing your raw emotions and seeking His help in any current struggles or challenges you may be facing.
Today’s Key Verse:
Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life. Psalm 143:8

From Cave to Courage: How David's Faith Inspires Us to Overcome Adversity: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 142
In today’s episode, we explore Psalm 142 and the powerful message it holds for those facing desperate situations. David's experience of hiding in a cave to escape death may seem extreme, but we all know what it's like to feel overwhelmed by challenging circumstances. Through David's unwavering faith in God's intervention, we can find comfort and hope in the face of adversity. Join me as we delve into this story of strength and resilience. My heartfelt prayer is that this episode will bring you the inspiration and encouragement you need to face any challenge with courage and confidence.

Think of a difficult situation you're currently facing or have faced in the past. How did you feel during that time? What actions did you take to overcome it? Now, imagine how David felt while he was hiding in a cave and how he found the courage to trust in God. How can you apply David's unwavering faith to your own situation?
Today’s Key Verse:
I cry aloud to the Lord; I lift up my voice to the Lord for mercy. I pour out before him my complaint; before him I tell my trouble. Psalm 142:1-2

| Honoring God with Our Words: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 141 | 22 May 2023 | 00:22:42 | |
Honoring God with Our Words: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 141
Hey there, welcome to the Hearing Jesus podcast! In today's episode, we're going to dive into Psalm 141 and explore David's prayer to God about his words. We'll talk about how this prayer can help us yield our hearts and minds to the Lord, especially in difficult situations where our mouths can get the best of us. David's example reminds us to ask for God's guidance and control over our mouths and hearts, so we can respond in ways that honor Him. So, if you're looking for inspiration and guidance on how to pray and surrender your words to God, this episode is for you. I pray this episode blesses you!
Thoughts to Journal:
How has your mouth responded in the past when you have been faced with a similar experience to David? When you think about this in terms of your mouth being a reflection of what’s in your heart, what thoughts do you have? Do you need to surrender your words to the Lord? Spend some time in prayer today, asking God to help you the next time you are in this kind of situation.
Today’s Key Verse:
Set a guard over my mouth, Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips. Psalm 141:3
| There is Only One Hero in the Bible : Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 140 | 19 May 2023 | 00:23:30 | |
There is Only One Hero in the Bible : Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 140
Today’s passage looks at the behavior of David, in a situation that is pretty similar to what each of us have gone through. Yet there are some aspects that we should recognize as part of his humanity, and not necessarily something we should emulate. Instead, we should look to Jesus, how He responded, as our model. As we compare the two today, I pray this episode blesses you.
Thoughts to Journal:
In the past, have you looked to the human character in the Bible as the heroes? How does your perspective shift when you realize that they aren’t the ones that are the hero? Allow yourself some time today to process that, as you start to look for God’s character and nature to be the model we chase after.
Today’s Key Verse:
I know that the Lord will maintain the cause of the afflicted, And justice for the poor. Psalm 140:12

God’s Loving Thoughts of You Outnumber the Grains of Sand: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 139
Friend, we are discussing some powerful truths today. God knows you intimately, and there is nowhere you can go to escape that love. When we allow those truths to sink in, it will change things for us. I pray that as we study today’s Psalm, you recognize how incredibly much you are loved.
Thoughts to Journal:
Does the understanding of God’s omniscience change anything for you? Or the fact that the enemy is not omniscient? What about God’s omnipresence? Spend some time today, reflecting on the ways these truths impact your relationship with God.
Today’s Key Verse:
How precious also are Your thoughts for me, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the sand. Psalm 139: 17-18a

| The Faithfulness of God is Everlasting: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 138 | 17 May 2023 | 00:21:20 | |
The Faithfulness of God is Everlasting: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 138
Today is the first of eight psalms written by David. David’s prayer of thankfulness and praise also includes his desire to see the name of Yahweh praised in the surrounding nations. Eventually, the spread of the gospel would reach outside of Israel after Jesus came. As we unpack this psalm, may it encourage you to pray for those that do not yet know Him.
Thoughts to Journal:
In the midst of trouble, we see David praising God for His faithfulness. When you think of God’s name, do you also think about his character? His behavior? His reputation? How can those things encourage you when you are going through trouble? Spend some time today reminding yourself of these things so you can refer to them in difficult seasons.
Today’s Key Verse:
On the day I called, You answered me; You made me bold with strength in my soul. Psalm 138:3

| Yearning for God’s Presence: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 137 | 16 May 2023 | 00:21:08 | |
Yearning for God’s Presence: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 137
As we study today the worship leaders of Israel, and the longing they experienced while in captivity, it reminds us of the yearning we sometimes feel as we live in the space of the “already but not yet.” We are already one with Christ, but not yet fully restored, and we won’t be this side of heaven. It is a normal human emotion to sometimes wrestle with that yearning. I pray that as we unpack today’s psalm, it helps you settle into a place of thankfulness for the gift and presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
Thoughts to Journal:
Do you ever long for heaven? For the complete restoration of our lives, our bodies, and our world? If we are honest, it sometimes is hard not to yearn for that when we look at the world around us. Spend some time today thanking God for the gift of the Holy Spirit, which empowers us to be a light in this dark world as we wait for Christ’s return.
Today’s Key Verse:
May my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth if I do not remember you Psalm 137:6a

| Feeling Stuck in Your Prayer Life? Using Psalm 136 as a Model to Get Unstuck: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 136 | 15 May 2023 | 00:29:09 | |
Feeling Stuck in Your Prayer Life? Using Psalm 136 as a Model to Get Unstuck: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 136
Today we take a look at the redemptive thread woven throughout Israel’s history through the eyes of the psalmist. This passage can be a model for us when we feel stuck in prayer, as we praise God for the way He has worked in our own lives. We can also look forward to the redemptive work Jesus accomplished on the cross. I pray this episode blesses you.
Thoughts to Journal:
Do you sometimes get stuck in your prayer life? Try to take the patterns we see in Psalm 136 as a model for your own prayer life to get you started. Remember that it’s not a formula, but an idea to get you started. The goal of prayer is relationship. Write out your response to Him, He longs to spend time with you, friend!
Today’s Key Verse:
Give thanks to the God of heaven. His love endures forever. Psalm 136:26

| Praising God for His Goodness and His Greatness: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 135 | 11 May 2023 | 00:22:36 | |
Praising God for His Goodness and His Greatness: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 135
Praising God has more to do with who He is than what He may be doing in our lives. We know God’s character and nature does not change, so we can also praise Him for who He will be in the future. Today we see that example in Psalm 135.
Thoughts to Journal:
When was the last time you simply praised God for who He is? For His goodness and greatness, not in response to a current situation? While it is important to praise Him for what He has done and what He is currently doing, it’s also important to praise Him for who we know Him to be. Take some time to write out a prayer of praise to Him today.
Today’s Key Verse:
Praise the Lord! Praise the name of the Lord; Psalm 135:1

Encouraging Our Spiritual Leaders: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 133 and Psalm 134
Today we again combine two shorter Psalms that both talk about the ways we can encourage our spiritual leaders. We also discuss unity and how important that is for the body of Christ. I pray this episode blesses you.
Thoughts to Journal:
When was the last time you spoke a word of encouragement or appreciation to someone that is a spiritual leader in your life? What can you do this week to reach out to that person to let them know you value them? Spend some time praying for them today and name something specific you can do to encourage them.

May the Lord bless you from Zion, He who is the Maker of heaven and earth. Psalm 134:3

God’s Covenant Promise That Points to Jesus: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 131 and 132
Today we combine two Psalms that reveal some key characteristics about God’s nature. As we study today, I pray these thoughts sink down from your head and into your heart.
Thoughts to Journal:
Nurturing, compassionate, faithful, present. How does the content in today’s psalm minister to your heart? When we remember that the Lord is on the throne, we realize that there is nothing we have to face in this world alone. Spend some time in worship today, praising Him for the way He chases after you.

Waiting for Restoration After We Have Fallen Into Sin: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 130
As believers, we all have times in our lives when we have to deal with the consequences and chaos of sin. While we know that God can restore us, the period of waiting for that to happen can be difficult to endure. Today we talk about the peace that can happen while we are working through the restoration process. I pray this episode blesses you.
Thoughts to Journal:
Have there been times in your life when you have experienced chaos as a consequence of sin in your life? Are you going through a season like that right now? How do you react in those situations? Are you quick to come back to God and ask for His help? Spend some time processing what it would look like to remember that He is a God who forgives and longs to restore us to right relationship with Him.
Today’s Key Verse:
For with the Lord there is mercy, And with Him is abundant redemption. Psalm 130:7

Finding Hope and Joy with Special Guest Raquelle Stevens
For Friends and Family Friday, I invited my friend Raquelle Stevens on to talk about finding hope and joy. In a post-pandemic world, and the hustle culture we find ourselves in, sometimes finding joy in the day-to-day can be difficult. Together we talk through some of the issues that are common for women, and how having a “Sunshine Mindset” makes all the difference.

In their debut book, Tanya & Raquelle share a message of hope particularly those who are working on their mental health, self-worth, friendships, dating, balancing work/personal life, etc. Tanya and Raquelle share their faith journeys and 100 days to a “sunshine mindset” through anecdotes from their personal lives and daily meditations. Each passage helps strengthen the reader's faith and helps them navigate life’s obstacles with positivity, grace, and light.

Balancing the Emotions We Feel After Something Hard: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 129
In today’s episode, we take a look at the variety of emotions Israel had after experiencing community trauma. Their humanity is not that different than ours, and I am thankful we have this example in Scripture. I pray that as we look at this Psalm today, it helps you understand that God longs for you to bring things to Him, even the things that are hard.
Thoughts to Journal:
Are there hard emotions that you resist taking to God about your past? Friend, He longs for you to honestly come to Him with those emotions, it’s how we heal. Take some time today to bring those unspoken things to the one who can heal your heart.
Today’s Key Verse:
The Lord is righteous; He has cut up the ropes of the wicked. Psalm 129:4

Trusting Jesus is Good: John 10: Daily Devotional, Daily Bible Study
In this episode, Rachael Groll walks through John 10 and the powerful image of Jesus as our Good Shepherd. She explains how His care, protection, and guidance aren’t distant ideas but deeply personal realities that shape how we live and how we hear His voice. Drawing from the cultural context of shepherding and her own journey of learning to trust God’s care, Rachael shows why recognizing Jesus’ voice is central to a growing, grounded faith.

Is the Prosperity Gospel a Biblical Principle? What the Bible Actually Teaches: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 128
Many of us are familiar with the term “prosperity gospel,” but what does Scripture actually say? Today we unpack a portion of Scripture that is sometimes used to perpetuate some false teaching. I pray this conversation blesses you.
Thoughts to Journal:
Have you had some inaccurate thoughts when it comes to prosperity within the Christian life? How does today’s teaching change your perspective? When it comes to prosperity, what does a prosperous relationship with the Lord look like in your life? If that is not what you are experiencing right now, spend some time in prayer, talking with the Lord about that.
Today’s Key Verse:
Blessed is everyone who fears the Lord, Who walks in His ways. Psalm 128:1
The Hearing Jesus Podcast will encourage and equip you to step into the calling God has for your life, living out your faith in the everyday. Together we will break down walls that keep us from growing spiritually. We will dig deep into our Bibles to understand and connect the Scriptures to our lives. Unless the Lord Builds the House- Recognizing God’s Hand of Blessing in Our Lives: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 127
In today’s hustle culture, it can be easy to lose sight of God’s blessings in our lives and take the credit for those blessings ourselves. Today’s psalm serves as a powerful reminder that any good thing in our life is a gift from God. I pray this episode blesses you.
Thoughts to Journal:
Have you been guilty of taking the credit for the good things in your life that are actually blessings from God? Have you spent too much time building things that are temporary instead of things that are eternal? What are you currently building for the kingdom? Spend some time before the Lord today, carefully thinking through this topic, and write down what the Lord is saying to you.
Today’s Key Verse:
Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Psalm 127:1
