| A Full, Interesting, and Meaningful Life | 27 Apr 2022 | 00:43:48 | |
This is one of my favorite interviews, I hope you enjoy! An interview from September 2020 with Mary Howick who spent almost 30 years in leadership positions with multi-national financial institutions. She is also a single mother which means she spent a lot of time balancing those two parts of her life. She also decided to become a psychotherapist, Reiki Master and Isha Judd System facilitator at the same time. Then she got cancer and that changed her life (like it does for so many people). She retired from her corporate job and went to Uruguay for 3 years to study more intensely with Isha Judd who is an enlightened spiritual teacher. Mary then returned to Ireland and trained as a coach using the 3 principles based on the work of Sydney Banks. Using these 2 systems she is now supporting people as a stress-management coach and her mission in life is to lead people into that space of inner peace beneath the chatter of the mind where they can access the enormous power and clarity of who they really are. I like that mission so much I may copy some of it for my mission statement. I’m sure she’d be happy to share. You can contact Mary Howick on LinkedIn and Facebook.

| Self-Care for Heart Health | 24 Feb 2022 | 00:07:10 | |
Self-Care for Heart Health A study published in the journal Health Psychology that I read about was the spark for this podcast. The study had found a connection between self-care and self-compassion with heart health. More self-care & compassion created less plaque buildup on their heart’s carotid artery walls - a major risk for developing cardiovascular disease. The results confirmed that practicing better self-care was good for your heart irrespective of other heart related issues which I talk about in the short podcast. It also identified 3 main obstacles to doing self-care which I also talk about. Listen in and learn a lot! I also suggested that if any of you want to connect with me to learn how I changed my life by learning to practice self-care & compassion for myself you can reach out via email at susan@healthytipsafter50.com or on FB Messenger, Susan E Rosin. Be sure to put self-care in the subject line and I will know to reply quickly.

| The Secret For the New Year | 18 Jan 2022 | 00:06:51 | |
Today’s podcast is a little different from my usual formats. It’s not an interview and it’s not about health issues or studies. It’s an important secret that I’m sharing from a well-known and well-respected coach, teacher, and consultant named Mavis Karn. Listen to this relatively short podcast without having anything else on your mind, you’ll hear the secret of who you really are, and if you listen closely it will change your life. It changed the lives of the incarcerated kids she wrote it for and sent it to. And it has also changed the lives of many many others who have read it and/or heard it in the years since it was first written. If you would like a copy of The Secret by Mavis Karn you can go to the website https://healthytipsafter50.com, send me an email to the email address you’ll find there and I will send you a PDF of The Secret.
| Embodied Meditation | 11 Jan 2022 | 00:37:02 | |
Embodied Meditation Neil McKinlay is an Embodied Meditation Teacher and has his own podcast called Bringing Meditation to Life. You’ll find a link to both his website and his podcast below. We had a very interesting discussion about the different types of meditation and what “Embodied Meditation” means to him. We also discussed how the Pandemic has affected all kinds of energy and community based programs. How we have all learned that having a community no longer means only in person groups and programs - the energy is just as strong through online groups in Zoom and other software. I very much enjoyed expanding my already large and varied view of the value of having a meditation practice. Here is Neil’s website where you will find programs, guided meditations, blog posts, online group gatherings, and many other offerings including a link to his new podcast! https://neilmckinlay.com

One thing I found really interesting was Sara’s explanation of the defensive posture that many people take on as they get older and how that affects your body, your brain, and the way you approach life and your world. You’ll learn a lot you can use in your own life from this conversation. To learn more you can contact Sara directly at her website https://www.drsaraoneill.com

Today’s show explains what some of the most common heart tests are that we may be sent out to get. | Fighting Inflammation | 30 Nov 2021 | 00:09:45
Fighting Inflammation Today’s show tries to sort through inflammation and the different kinds of inflammation - the kind that helps you heal, the kind that creates disease, and the kind that turns your body against itself. I talk about inflammatory and anti-inflammatory foods. And I also talk about how chronic stress can create inflammation and disease all by itself. It’s pretty straight-forward in a kind of round-about way so hang in there to the end. And for anyone who is feeling particularly stressed I suggested that you get in touch and we can have a conversation about it. If you’re interested contact me at susan@healthytipsafter50.com and put Conversation in the subject.
| What is Cryotherapy? | 23 Nov 2021 | 00:30:06 | |
What is Cryotherapy? Today’s guest, Kyle Jones, is the co-founder and COO of iCRYO. He has been involved in health & wellness since becoming an athlete in high school, then continuing on through college, and after college when he won national gold medals in Competitive Power Lifting. He also worked as a Physical Therapist where he learned about how important rehab & recovery are. He was first introduced to Cryotherapy in 2012 and as Kyle started to look more into it, he began to realize the amazing benefits Cryotherapy has to offer for all types of bodies. In 2015 he decided to open his first center and it was at that point that Kyle hired and trained a staff specifically for providing this service to the public. We had an interesting conversation and I had a lot of questions about what Cryotherapy is, how it helps and with what kinds of services. I learned that inflammation is the biggest issue that their centers and Cryotherapy can help with and since that is the major cause of most physical issues I can see how iCRYO has become so popular so fast. If you want to check it out for yourself go to their website at https://icryo.com To watch the video go to https://healthytipsafter50.com
| What Song Makes You Dance? | 16 Nov 2021 | 00:13:26 | |
What Song Makes You Get Up and Dance? For me I love almost any kind of music and it makes me feel good to know that there are positive, physical benefits from listening (and dancing) to it. I talk about an NIH-funded music and health initiative. It’s so exciting to learn about some wonderful results they are getting from their research into Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and stroke recovery. There are also interesting updates related to the grieving process, using music to help be more productive, and learning how music affects the brain. Music can help people support and connect with others. It can help us to strengthen our own brains by learning and playing an instrument. It can also help you to remember where you parked your car or left your keys. All of these are in the podcast.
| Eating For You | 09 Nov 2021 | 00:37:20 | |
Eating For You - Emotional Eating My interview guest this week is Sallyanne Pisk. She lives in Australia and she helps women to transform their eating mindset and their relationship with food. I should point out though that a lot of what we discussed applies to men these days as well as women so if you’re male don’t turn the podcast off. The biggest takeaway from this podcast is that we should eat a healthy diet, one that works for us and our particular issues and life. Sallyanne developed the “Emotional Eating Triggers Checklist” to help her clients and Sallyanne developed the “Emotional Eating Triggers Checklist” to help her clients and it is available to download for free at eatingchecklist.com . | 3 New Things to Know | 19 Oct 2021 | 00:07:41
3 New Things to Know This podcast has 3 interesting study results. The first has to do with low B-12 levels leading to dementia. The second is about fidgeting while you’re stuck sitting some place for hours - like on a plane ride. And the third is a study which found a clear link in women between eating dairy products and a lower risk of cancer. It’s not a long podcast so give it a listen and get the details for each. I also talked a bit more at the end about my coaching practice and how to get in touch if I can help - email me at susan@susanrosin.com
| What is Andropause? | 11 Oct 2021 | 00:45:14 | |
What is Andropause? Today’s podcast is with Dr. Chris Azzola who you all are familiar with from previous podcasts. Cris has a very interesting subject to talk about and it’s called Andropause, which is the male version of Menopause. I bet you didn’t know that it even existed, I didn’t. There are some similarities as well as a lot of differences and we cover a lot of them here in this podcast. We also talk about visceral fat (which both sexes can have) and its effects on hormones. We also discuss blood sugar regulation, cholesterol, and diets and their impact negatively and positively on men and women during Andropause and Menopause. There was so much good info in this podcast that you need to watch/listen to it and not just read this summary. You can get in touch with Dr. Azzola at this link if you’d like to set up an appointment about an issue you are currently dealing with or to just get her involved in your physical wellbeing. www.DrAzzola.com
| Signs or Symptoms? | 06 Oct 2021 | 00:09:15 | |
Signs or Symptoms? Is there a difference between Medical Signs and Medical Symptoms? Turns out that there is ever since the 20th Century - before that time they were the same. It’s still pretty confusing to those of us who are not patients or observers but it turns out to not be as confusing as it seems. Symptoms are what we feel but can’t always see. Signs point toward diseases, objective evidence of a disease, or a measure of a possible disease. I give some examples of both in the podcast to make it easier to understand the difference. I also gave a short update on my Intuitive Coaching Practice - who I’m working with, why, and how you or someone you know can contact me to learn more (email me at susan@susanrosin.com). I’m still looking for a name for the Practice so if you have any good suggestions after listening to the podcast let me know at the same email address.
