Which one first when everything needs attention ⎸ Ep. 21710 Sep 202600:20:16

You finished the list. You sorted everything into thyroid or immune. And somehow that made it worse, because now you are looking at two full buckets and every single thing in them looks like it should be the thing you do today.

So you did nothing. Or you picked five things, went hard, and lasted about eleven days.

That is not a discipline problem.

Sorting is triage, not treatment. It tells you what to work on first. But nobody ever explains the "first" part, and that gap is where most women get stuck. In this episode I walk through the three rules I use to decide what actually comes next, why the most important thing is almost never the right place to start, and what six winters of working on one single trigger taught me about doing less at a time.

What you'll learn
  • Why "address everything at once" sounds responsible and still falls apart in eleven days
  • Why the thyroid bucket comes first (fatigue, brain fog, cold, and weight resistance show up in both buckets, and you cannot tell them apart through the static)
  • How to pick your first immune bucket step by choosing the cheapest repeatable thing instead of the most dramatic one
  • Why changing five things at once teaches you nothing, even when you feel better
  • The question that replaces "which one is most important" and actually gets you moving

How Serious is Hashimoto's Disease? ⎹ Ep. 21603 Sep 202600:20:19

How serious is Hashimoto's disease? Nobody answered that at your appointment.

You got a prescription and a follow-up in six weeks. Or you got told your numbers are fine for now and we are just going to keep an eye on things. Either way, you walked out not knowing whether to brush this off or worry about it every day.

The answer sits in between those two. Hashimoto's is two things and not one. It is a thyroid that cannot keep up, and it is an immune system attacking that thyroid. Medication can help handle the first one. The second one is all yours to work on.

In episode 216, Esther gives you the facts without the fear, including what she reads in her own thyroid books about what happens when hypothyroidism goes unwatched, and why she gets most serious about this with women who are pregnant or trying to be.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • Why the immune attack is not the life-threatening part, and what actually is
  • How long your antibodies can be elevated before symptoms or your TSH ever reflect it
  • The five labs to look at so you know which side is asking for your attention right now

Hit play and get the answer you did not get at your appointment.

What to do first once you have sorted your root causes ⎸ Ep 21527 Aug 202600:10:18

You did the sorting. Thyroid on one side, immune on the other. So why does it feel like nothing has actually changed?

Here is the trap. Sorting feels like progress, and it is, but so far it is all in your head. The buckets are full and nothing in either one has moved. Sorting feels safe. Starting feels like a risk.

In this final episode of the summer sorting series, Esther walks you through what to do after sorting Hashimoto's into thyroid and immune. Not twelve things to do tomorrow. One thing, chosen on purpose, small enough that you will still be doing it next month.

Hit play and pick your one next thing.

Sorting Hashimoto's labs into thyroid or immune buckets ⎹ Ep. 21420 Aug 202600:10:16

You have the lab printout in front of you. You circled the flagged numbers, looked them up, and maybe compared them to somebody else's results in a group. So why do you still not know what they mean?

In episode 214, Esther walks through the full panel and sorts every lab into thyroid or immune, so you can do the same thing with your own results in about five minutes. Sorting Hashimoto's labs is simpler than it looks once you know which list each one belongs on.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • Which labs report on your thyroid gland and which ones report on your immune system
  • Why reverse T3 is the lab that goes missing most often, and what a high number is asking you to look at
  • Why vitamin D and C-reactive protein are helpful even though they are not on the standard thyroid panel

Hit play, then pull out your most recent results and start sorting.

Thyroid or Immune? Sorting the 6 Symptoms Every Woman with Hashimoto’s Knows ⎸ Ep 21313 Aug 202600:12:34

Six common Hashimoto’s symptoms: fatigue, weight resistance, brain fog, hair loss, constipation, and feeling cold all the time.

You've been told they're all just your thyroid. Some of them are. And some of them were never going to be fully fixed by your thyroid.

In episode 213, Esther sorts the six most common Hashimoto's symptoms into thyroid or immune. Two landed in the thyroid bucket. Four landed in both. That isn't bad news. Two buckets is not two problems. It's two places to look instead of one dead end.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • Why feeling cold all the time is the cleanest thyroid bucket symptom, and what to ask about if you're still cold on medication
  • How constipation, hair loss, brain fog, and weight resistance end up in both buckets for two different reasons
  • Why weight gain when you're eating the same and moving the same is physiology, not willpower

Hit play and start sorting.

Hashimoto's thyroid or immune ⎸ Root Cause Series Ep 21206 Aug 202600:11:49

You started the summer with a question. Now you have a longer list of root causes and the exact same question you had in May.

Which one am I supposed to do something about first?

That is not an information problem. It is a sorting problem.

In this episode, Esther goes back through the summer root cause series and sorts every topic covered into one of two buckets using the Hashimoto's thyroid or immune framework. Each one gets sorted out loud so you can see how the filter actually works when you apply it to real information, including the one topic that landed in both buckets and changed how she thinks about minerals.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • Why vitamin D belongs in the immune bucket even though it matters for every cell in your body
  • Why the hair mineral test lands in both buckets, and what changed Esther's mind about it
  • How to take 25 saved screenshots and sort them down to one next step

Hit play and get a filter for everything you already know.

Using the Hashimoto's thyroid or immune framework for yourself ⎸ Ep. 21130 Jul 202600:10:50

You have all the information. So why are you still stuck?

If you have spent years reading, researching, and following every account you can find, you already know a lot about Hashimoto's. The problem is not information. The problem is knowing what to do with it.

In this episode, Esther walks through the Hashimoto's thyroid or immune framework and shows you exactly how she used it on herself, back when she was first diagnosed. She shares which bucket she focused on first, why she skipped over diet even though she knew it mattered, and how she figured out her very next step instead of trying to do everything at once.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • How to sort your own symptoms, labs, and next steps into the thyroid bucket or the immune bucket
  • Why Esther focused on sleep and stress first, even though she knew diet was important too
  • How to figure out your one next step instead of feeling like you have to fix everything at once

Hit play to hear the whole story, including the moment her teenage son asked her a question that says everything about why she does this work.

What if your thyroid is a victim, not the cause, of Hashimoto's ⎸ Ep. 210 with Dr. Jess Armine23 Jul 202600:23:30

What if your thyroid is a victim, not the cause, of Hashimoto's

Your thyroid isn't broken. It's overwhelmed.

Esther talks with Dr. Jess Armine, a healthcare provider with almost 50 years of clinical experience. His take on Hashimoto's: the thyroid is a victim, not the cause. It's a downstream effect of something else happening in your body.

If your fatigue has ever been written off as laziness, this one will shift how you see it.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • Why your thyroid isn't the real problem in Hashimoto's
  • Why your fatigue is a cellular energy crisis, not laziness
  • The one simple starting point Dr. Armine recommends before chasing every root cause

Guest bio:

Dr. Jess Armine has spent nearly 50 years in healthcare as an EMT, RN, and chiropractor. After his son's schizophrenia diagnosis, he dove into genetics, endocrinology, and mitochondrial function, developing what he calls bio-individualized medicine. He now specializes in complex illnesses that haven't found success elsewhere.

Why you keep starting over with your Hashimoto's protocols ⎸ Root Cause Series Ep 20916 Jul 202600:11:06

Do you keep starting a new Hashimoto's protocol, only to abandon it a few weeks in when something newer shows up?

If that cycle feels familiar, you are not lacking discipline. You are missing a filter. In this episode, Esther explains why do I keep starting over with Hashimoto's protocols, and it is not the reason you think. The real issue is that every new supplement or protocol lands with equal weight because there is no way to sort it against what you are already doing.

In this episode, you'll learn:

The real reason starting over feels like progress, even when it isn't The two bucket filter (thyroid or immune) for sorting anything new that crosses your feed Four questions to ask before you try another supplement or protocol

Why do I have so many Hashimoto's symptoms at the same time ⎸ Root Cause Series Ep 20809 Jul 202600:10:58

Why does it seem like every Hashimoto's symptom shows up at once instead of one at a time?

In this episode, Esther explains why your root causes never work alone. A single stressor, like a poor night of sleep, can affect your blood sugar, your gut, and your immune system all at the same time. That is why you have so many Hashimoto's symptoms stacking on top of each other, and it is not because nothing you are doing is working.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • Why a single bad night of sleep can throw off your blood sugar and your willpower the next day
  • How stress affects more than your mood, including your immune function and your gut lining
  • Why small positive changes ripple across your whole body the same way stressors do

Just as you are not a simple skeleton, you are not just a thyroid. Hit play to see how it all connects, and what to do about it without trying to fix everything at once.

Why Hashimoto's self sabotage is not a willpower problem ⎸ Ep. 207 with Dr. Tabatha Barker02 Jul 202600:32:36

You did the gluten free diet. You healed your gut. You worked on your nervous system. So why do you keep quitting two weeks later?

If you have ever done everything right and still found yourself back at the donut, skipping your supplements, or abandoning your protocol without a clear reason why, this episode is for you. Dr. Tabatha, a board certified OBGYN who has lived with Hashimoto's since she was 17, says Hashimoto's self sabotage is rarely a discipline problem. It is a belief problem.

In this episode, Dr. Tabatha shares the story behind her own diagnosis, her years as a Western medicine surgeon, and the shift that changed how she sees the body, faith, and healing. You will hear why she believes the deepest root cause she ever found was not a missing supplement, but a belief about what she deserved.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • Why Hashimoto's self sabotage often has nothing to do with willpower
  • Why your thyroid is not malfunctioning, but protecting you
  • Why fasting can backfire for a body that already feels like it is in survival mode

Why Knowing Your Hashimoto's Root Causes Is Not Enough ⎸ Root Cause Series Ep 20625 Jun 202600:09:50

You have done the research and probably already know your root causes, but what do you do next when new protocols, supplements, or advice pop up? In this episode I’ll help you build a personal filter — discernment — so you can decide what’s worth trying and what to skip.

We’ll walk through real-life examples (social media supplements, new diets, and flare-ups) to show how discernment helps you ask the right questions, run a checklist, and avoid all-or-nothing thinking. Think of this as your practical, everyday tool for applying what you already know.

If you’re just starting, hit the show notes for Hashimoto’s Decoded to learn your root causes. If you already know them, let’s build your discernment framework together so you can confidently choose what’s actually for you.

Bad Influence Got the Problems Right but the Solutions Wrong - A Book Review20 Jun 202600:12:56

The BMJ called Bad Influence "a timely and eye-opening investigation...essential reading," but spoiler: I don’t agree. I found the reporting solid, and she made good points about how social media prioritizes stories over science, but I disagreed with nearly every solution.

As an American who values free speech and medical autonomy, I want control over my health and freedom to speak. The author’s UK, socialized-medicine perspective leads her to lean toward regulation and centralized answers — that’s just not my worldview.

I gave the book two stars: worth reading if you want to understand the problems, but don’t expect the proposed fixes to support medical autonomy nor freedom of speech.

Vitamin D as a Root Cause of Hashimoto's ⎸ Root Cause Series Ep 20304 Jun 202600:10:29

Are you still exhausted even though you're doing everything you can for your Hashimoto's? The problem might be something you literally cannot feel.

Vitamin D is one of the most common root cause triggers for Hashimoto's, and most women have no idea their levels are low. You cannot feel it when your vitamin D is low. You cannot feel it when it is high. The only way to know is to test. And if your levels are not where they need to be, your immune system is missing one of its most important tools for calming down.

In this episode, Esther breaks down why vitamin D is a root cause trigger for Hashimoto's, how it works in your immune system, and what you actually need to know about getting your levels up, whether that is through summer sun exposure or smart supplementation.

In this episode, you will learn:

  • Why vitamin D acts like a brake system for your immune system and what happens when those brakes fail
  • What optimal vitamin D levels actually look like and why "not deficient" is not good enough
  • How summer sun exposure works, why it is not as simple as going outside, and what to do about it year round

Ready to map out all of your root causes? Hashimoto's Decoded: Root Causes Revealed walks you through the whole picture in under an hour, with a workbook to help you figure out your next step. https://healthwithhashimotos.com/hashimotos-decoded/

From AIP Resistance to Total Buy-In: My Honest Review of The New Autoimmune Protocol [Bonus Book Review]31 May 202600:11:23

Have you ever looked at a diet protocol and immediately thought, "There is no way I can do that"?

That was me with AIP. The restrictions felt overwhelming, the food felt foreign, and honestly, I was not sure the payoff was worth the stress. So when Mickey Trescott reached out about her new book, my first instinct was hesitation.

Then I read it. And everything changed.

In this bonus episode of Health with Hashimoto's, I'm sharing my honest review of The New Autoimmune Protocol by Mickey Trescott — and why I went from resistant to completely bought in. This is The New Autoimmune Protocol review I wish someone had given me years ago.

Here's what you'll hear in this episode:

  • Why AIP felt impossible before and what made it finally feel doable
  • What the New AIP actually is — including the three phases and two flexible approaches that make it more accessible than the original
  • What makes this book stand out, from the practical prep guidance to the gorgeous cookbook section

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • Why genetics load the gun but lifestyle and environment pull the trigger
  • How leaky gut keeps your immune system working overtime and why an overworked immune system starts attacking things it shouldn't
  • The eight most common Hashimoto's triggers and why knowing yours is the turning point

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • Why your thyroid affects every single cell in your body — and what happens when it's not producing or converting enough hormone
  • The most common symptoms of hypothyroidism and why they show up differently for everyone
  • Why Hashimoto's has two parts, and why missing the autoimmune piece means the attack on your thyroid never stops

The Modified AIP Diet for Hashimoto’s: What Mickey Trescott Wants Every Patient to Know | Ep. 20021 May 202600:32:52

Have you ever wondered if what you eat is making your Hashimoto's worse — or if changing your diet could actually make a real difference?

If you've heard of the AIP diet but felt overwhelmed, confused about where to start, or worried it meant giving up food you love forever, this episode is for you. The modified AIP diet Hashimoto's patients are using today looks very different from what it was 15 years ago — and the research behind it is finally catching up.

In this episode, Esther sits down with Mickey Trescott, functional nutrition expert, Hashimoto's patient, and author of the brand new book The New Autoimmune Protocol. Mickey shares how AIP has evolved from a single sentence in functional medicine circles into a research-backed, two-phase protocol with human studies to support it — including two studies specific to Hashimoto's.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • Why AIP is a tool and a process, not a permanent diet — and what it's actually designed to do
  • What modified AIP is, how it differs from core AIP, and why it may be more realistic for your real life
  • Why preparation matters more than the diet itself, and the two exercises Mickey uses to set people up for success before they change a single thing they eat

Hit play and find out if the modified AIP diet might be the missing piece in your Hashimoto's strategy.

193 // Feeling Overwhelmed by Hashimoto's? Where to Start When More Info Isn't Helping02 Apr 202600:17:21

Are you doing all the things (the supplements, the protocols, the late-night Pinterest research) and still not moving forward with Hashimoto's?

You might not have an information problem. You might have an overwhelm problem.

Hashimoto's overwhelm is one of the most unrecognized barriers to getting better. And the hardest part is that the search for answers can actually make things worse! Every new protocol adds another decision. Every new supplement adds another layer of stress. And stress is one of the biggest root cause triggers for Hashimoto's. The plan itself can become part of the problem.

In episode 193, Esther breaks down why more information is not the answer and what actually is.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • Why accumulating strategies is not the same as making progress with Hashimoto's
  • How the information environment is designed to keep you spinning — and what to do instead
  • Why structure reduces decision fatigue, lowers your stress load, and creates real forward momentum

  • How to think about your supplement needs like Goldilocks — not too much, not too little, and personal to you
  • Which nutrients deserve your attention and why selenium may be one of the most important ones you aren't thinking about

Why "Fatigue" Doesn't Capture It – Reviewing The Invisible Kingdom by Meghan O'Rourke21 Mar 202600:12:20

Have you ever tried to explain your fatigue to someone and watched their eyes glaze over? Because when most people hear the word "fatigue," they think tired. But you and I both know it is so much more than that.

The Invisible Kingdom: Reimagining Chronic Illness by Meghan O'Rourke is a memoir that finally puts words to what so many women with chronic illness have been feeling for years. O'Rourke spent decades searching for answers, navigating a medical system that was not built for people like her, and learning — slowly — how to move forward without a tidy resolution. Her first diagnosis was Hashimoto's, and the story she tells will feel very familiar.

In this bonus episode, I'm reviewing The Invisible Kingdom by Meghan O'Rourke.

In this episode, you'll hear:

  • Why O'Rourke's description of fatigue is one of the most accurate things written about chronic illness
  • What this book gets right about the gap in patient care — and why it matters for you
  • Why I appreciated that this story does not have a fairy tale ending, and what that honesty offers instead

Hit play and find out if this is your next great read.

186 // Exploring Peptides and Gut Health in Hashimoto’s: What the Research Says12 Feb 202600:21:14

Are you exhausted and foggy even when you're doing "all the right things" for your Hashimoto's?

Your gut might hold the missing piece. It houses 70–80% of your immune system, and peptides—tiny signaling proteins your gut naturally produces—help regulate digestion, nutrient absorption, barrier function, and microbial balance.

In this episode, I share why peptides for gut health are getting attention in functional wellness circles and how supporting them fits into feeling more like yourself again. As a registered nurse living with Hashimoto’s, I open up about my own journey and keep it simple—no overwhelming lists.

You’ll learn:

  • Easy ways to add probiotic foods daily (my go-to breakfast mix!)
  • When supplements like research-backed probiotics and prebiotics make sense
  • A targeted approach I use to support natural peptide activity (including my routine with the Healthy Edge Stack)

If you've been told your infertility is "unexplained," your thyroid may be part of the answer no one has looked for yet.

Hashimoto's can quietly disrupt fertility in ways that don't always show up on a standard workup. In this episode, Esther sits down with naturopathic fertility expert Dr. Grace Charles to break down the real connection between Hashimoto's, infertility, and miscarriage, and what you can actually do about it.

This is a conversation for women who are tired of not having answers.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • Three ways Hashimoto's can interfere with fertility, including ovulation, egg quality, and uterine lining health
  • Why antibodies and autoimmune activity matter just as much as your TSH number
  • What a full thyroid and root cause evaluation should include before fertility treatment
  • Why addressing root causes can lower antibodies and improve your chances of conception
  • What a realistic timeline looks like when you approach this from a root cause perspective
  • Postpartum red flags that point back to your thyroid

183 // When the News is Heavy, Here are Simple Steps for Stress22 Jan 202600:22:09

Hey friend — I know life (and the news) can feel overwhelming, so this episode brings you back to basics: belly breathing to calm your nervous system and simple habits to protect your gut.

Have you ever noticed that even when you eat “the right foods,” your digestion and symptoms still feel off?

Stress and gut health are deeply connected, especially for those living with Hashimoto’s. Understanding the link between stress and leaky gut patterns can help explain why flares happen even when your diet looks good on paper.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • How chronic stress shifts your body out of “rest and digest” and disrupts digestion

  • Why rushed eating and poor chewing can worsen gut permeability

  • How stress-driven changes in the gut lining can contribute to autoimmune flares in Hashimoto’s

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, tired of fighting your body, or stuck in a cycle of symptoms, this conversation will help you understand what’s happening beneath the surface and why calming your stress response is a foundational step.

182 // Hashimoto's Healing Timeline: What to Expect and Why Progress Feels Slow [Interview with Dr. Jen Mann]15 Jan 202600:23:22

You're doing the work. So why does it feel like nothing is changing?

If you've been living with Hashimoto's and wondering why progress feels so slow, this episode is for you. Esther sits down with naturopathic doctor Dr. Jen Mann to talk honestly about what a realistic Hashimoto's healing timeline actually looks like and why slow progress is not a sign that something is wrong.

This is the conversation many women need but rarely hear from their doctors.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • Why Hashimoto's requires root-cause work, not just symptom management
  • What a realistic healing timeline looks like (3 months, 6 months, 1 year, and beyond)
  • Why you may feel better before your labs improve, and why that still counts
  • How to make steady progress without trying to do everything at once
  • Why healing is non-linear and what to do on the hard days

If you've ever felt discouraged, dismissed, or tempted to give up because results aren't coming fast enough, press play. This conversation will help you reset your expectations and keep going.

181 // What to focus on first when you have Hashimoto’s08 Jan 202600:19:41

Are you overwhelmed by constantly changing health advice and unsure what actually matters for Hashimoto’s?

Dietary guidelines flip, supplements trend, and recommendations change every year. It’s no wonder so many women with Hashimoto’s feel confused, frustrated, and stuck. This episode brings the focus back to what does not change. Instead of chasing every new health strategy, real progress comes from strengthening the foundations your body depends on.

In this conversation, you’ll hear why focusing on the basics creates more stability, energy, and long-term results than jumping from one solution to the next. The main takeaway is simple: when the foundation is strong, everything else works better.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • What to focus on first when you have Hashimoto’s instead of reacting to trends

  • Why cellular health and gut integrity matter more than symptom chasing

  • How emotional and spiritual stress can quietly interfere with physical health

If you are ready to step away from overwhelm and get clear on where to start with Hashimoto’s, press play and listen in.

180 // Trends for Hashimoto's in 2026: Quick Fixes OUT, Sustainable Foundations IN01 Jan 202600:21:52

Are quick fixes actually helping your Hashimoto’s, or are they quietly keeping you stuck?

As a new year begins, it is tempting to chase the next solution, supplement, or routine that promises fast results. But for women with Hashimoto’s, that approach often leads to more frustration and more fatigue. In this episode, I walk through what I am intentionally leaving behind in 2026 and what I am choosing instead to better support autoimmune health.

The main takeaway is simple: sustainable foundations matter more than quick fixes. When we reduce stress, support the nervous system, and focus on how the body actually works, everything else becomes easier to manage. This episode outlines the mindset shifts and health habits that align with long-term regulation, not burnout.

In this episode, you will learn:

  • Why small, repeatable habits support Hashimoto’s better than extreme health efforts

  • How stress, routines, and daily rhythms directly affect autoimmune health

  • What foundational health practices matter most according to Hashimoto’s 2026 trends

179 // Hashimoto's in Teenagers: How Estrogen Dominance and Gut Health Drive Early Autoimmune Disease [Interview with Dr. David Bilstrom]25 Dec 202500:36:24

Painful periods, anxiety, and a brain that won't slow down might seem like normal teenage struggles. They are not always normal. They can be early warning signs.

In this episode, Esther sits down with quadruple board-certified physician Dr. David Bilstrom to talk about what is actually driving these symptoms in teenage girls and why catching them early can change the long-term health picture for Hashimoto's, hypothyroidism, and other autoimmune conditions.

If you have a teen daughter or you are wondering whether your own Hashimoto's started much earlier than your diagnosis, this conversation will give you a clearer picture.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • Why painful periods, heavy flows, PMS, anxiety, and sleep struggles in teens are early red flags, not normal parts of growing up
  • How estrogen dominance sets the stage for autoimmune disease long before thyroid labs change
  • Why gut health is central to both hormone balance and immune regulation
  • How chronic infections like Epstein-Barr can lodge in the thyroid and drive ongoing autoimmune activity
  • Why early intervention, ideally before age 19, can shift the trajectory for both teens and future generations

This is a proactive, hopeful conversation about what is possible when root causes are identified early. Press play to hear what Dr. Bilstrom sees in practice and what parents and women with Hashimoto's need to know.

Inspired by one of the best books I've read in 2025, Super Gut by Dr. William Davis, this episode breaks down how common gut issues like leaky gut, SIBO, and microbial imbalances fuel autoimmune thyroid disease and affect far more than digestion.

You'll learn why so many confusing symptoms aren't about willpower or bad luck, but about physiology—and most importantly, how to start healing intentionally with clear, actionable steps.

Key Topics Covered

  • Why gut dysfunction is extremely common in Hashimoto's and autoimmune conditions
  • How leaky gut and microbial imbalance impact thyroid hormones, immune function, mood, energy, skin, joints, and nutrient absorption
  • How targeted gut healing can support thyroid recovery and reduce autoimmune flare-ups

Thank you for listening—here's to better gut health and a happier thyroid!

177 // Why Good Energy Matters for Hashimoto’s and Autoimmune Health11 Dec 202500:20:49

Have you ever wondered why your Hashimoto’s symptoms stick around even when you’re doing “all the right things”? There’s a reason so many people still feel tired, inflamed, and overwhelmed — and it starts inside the cell.

This episode breaks down the idea of good energy and why it matters for anyone living with Hashimoto’s or an autoimmune condition. I share insights from the book Good Energy by Dr. Casey Means and explain how low cellular energy sets the stage for inflammation, immune confusion, and that constant feeling of running on empty. When you understand what’s happening at the smallest level of the body, the big picture starts to make a lot more sense.

In this episode you’ll learn:

  • Why poor cellular energy plays such a big role in Hashimoto’s

  • How inflammation and autoimmune symptoms connect to mitochondrial function

  • Simple ways to begin supporting your cells so you can feel like yourself again

176 // Burnout, Low Stomach Acid, and Hashimoto's: The Stress-Gut-Thyroid Connection [Interview with Lola MacLean]04 Dec 202500:24:29

You're eating clean, taking your supplements, and trying to do everything right. So why do you still feel bloated, exhausted, and stuck?

Burnout might be the missing piece. In this episode, Esther sits down with Functional Gut Health Consultant and Family Nurse Practitioner Lola MacLean to talk about what chronic stress is actually doing to your hormones, your gut, and your thyroid, and why it creates a cycle that is so hard to break out of on your own.

If you have Hashimoto's and feel like your efforts aren't adding up to results, this conversation will help you understand what's happening beneath the surface.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • Why stress keeps your body in fight-or-flight and why digestion is not designed to work well in that state
  • How low stomach acid connects to burnout and why it keeps your thyroid from getting the nutrients it needs
  • What "eating hygiene" is and why slowing down at meals is one of the most overlooked gut health tools
  • Simple daily habits, including a gentle walk after meals, that support motility, blood sugar, and gut comfort
  • Why long-term gut healing is less about restriction and more about giving your nervous system room to reset

You don't have to overhaul everything at once. Press play to hear what small, sustainable steps can actually move the needle when stress has been running the show.

175 // The 2025 Hashimoto’s Wishlist27 Nov 202500:17:53

What do women with Hashimoto’s want going into a new year? After working with so many of you, the top wish is simple and deeply felt: you want to feel like yourself again.

In this episode, I walk through what that really means — physically, mentally, and emotionally — and why it matters so much when you’re living with autoimmune thyroid disease. You’ll hear me break down the most common desires I see in my practice: more steady energy, clearer thinking, fewer digestive issues, better sleep, a calmer mood, and the confidence that you’re moving in the right direction.

I also share a few practical tools that can make a real difference as you build a plan for 2025, including:

  • How a far-infrared sauna can support your body

  • Why testing your vitamin D matters when you’re dealing with an autoimmune condition

  • A few books worth reading if you want simple, solid support

  • Ways to get help that goes beyond guessing — through my courses and 1:1 coaching

This episode is meant to help you step into the new year with more clarity and less overwhelm. Whether you’re looking for sustainable energy, better sleep, improved digestion, or simply the reassurance that you’re not alone, this conversation will help you identify what you really want and how to move toward it.

Mentioned on the podcast: • Holistic Hashimoto’s Course • Hashimoto’s Decoded Mini-Course • Coaching options • Far-infrared sauna use • Vitamin D testing • Book recommendations

174 // The Free Hashimoto's Health Tool You Are Probably Skipping Every Day20 Nov 202500:20:02

Are you looking for ways to support your Hashimoto's health without adding more to your already full plate?

There is one tool that is completely free, takes less than a minute, and has real science behind it. It is gratitude. Not the once-a-year Thanksgiving kind. The daily, eyes-open, noticing-what-is-already-working kind.

In this episode, you will discover:

  • Why a regular gratitude practice is one of the most overlooked free Hashimoto's health support tools available to you
  • What your body is doing right now that is worth paying attention to
  • How shifting your perspective on small, everyday moments can lower your cortisol, improve your sleep, and support your immune system

The research is clear. A Harvard study found that just 15 minutes of focused gratitude three times a week produced a measurable increase in happiness for six months. A 2023 meta-analysis found gratitude interventions work as well as some therapy techniques for reducing worry and improving mood. And for women with Hashimoto's, lowering cortisol is not a small thing. It directly impacts your immune system and your autoimmune activity.

Hit play and find out how something as simple as noticing your next heartbeat could be exactly what your body needs.
