240.#RESTORE: How to Restore Your Energy from Burnout in 4 Simple Steps with the F.U.E.L Framework01 Sep 202500:22:17

Leave Health Bite a Feedback.Click This Link.

You can't think your way out of burnout—but you can systematically restore what chronic stress has stolen from your mind, body, and spirit.

Dr. Adrienne Youdim reveals why vacation time isn't enough to heal chronic depletion, and shares the 4-pillar FUEL framework that actually replenishes what burnout has stolen from your mind, body, and spirit.

This episode builds on Burnout Series Part 1's nervous system regulation tools by teaching you how to intentionally restore the physical, mental, and emotional resources that chronic stress depletes—so you can stop running on empty and start thriving again.

What You'll Learn:

  • Why burnout is actually a form of malnutrition—and what nutrients (beyond food) your depleted system desperately needs
  • The FUEL framework: Feed, Unwind, Energize, Lean in—4 pillars of true restoration that go deeper than rest
  • Why "rest is not a reward for productivity—it is the foundation of it" and how to build restorative rituals into your day

"Restoration isn't passive like laying on the couch, although we definitely need to do that too. It's more intentional. It's more proactive. It's about giving your body and your brain the resources needed to rebuild and repair." - Dr. Adrienne Youdim

The Complete Burnout Prevention System:

Ready to move beyond surviving to actually thriving?

The FUEL framework works best when practiced consistently with others who understand the unique challenges of high-achievement.

Our next Resilient Minds cohorts start September 30th (women) and October 1st (men)—an 8-week program that integrates regulation, restoration, and reframing with the community support that makes lasting change possible.

239.5 Essential Practices to Build Resilience Through Life's Transitions25 Aug 202500:18:59

Leave Health Bite a Feedback.Click This Link.

What if the most painful life transitions are actually your greatest opportunities to build unshakeable resilience?

Fresh from dropping her son off at college cross-country, Dr. Adrienne Youdim shares the real-time tools she used to navigate heartbreak, uncertainty, and the empty nest transition without falling into reactive patterns.

In this vulnerable and practical Part 2 of our burnout series, discover how the same regulation techniques that prevent workplace burnout become your lifeline during major life changes.

What You'll Learn:

  • Why transitions trigger the same stress response as chronic work burnout—and what to do about it
  • The 5 real-time tools Dr. Adrienne used during her son's college drop-off to stay regulated instead of reactive
  • How to reframe loss as growth opportunity (without toxic positivity)
  • Why naming emotions immediately reduces their power over you
  • The science behind self-touch for nervous system regulation
  • How to identify what you're truly "hungry for" during difficult transitions instead of numbing with food, alcohol, or overwork

"Loss, change, transition, uncertainty about what's to come—that triggers that very same sympathetic response. If we can just acknowledge, just be aware of what's going on, then we're already taking a big step towards preventing the reactivity that can derail us." - Dr. Adrienne Youdim

The 5 Regulation Tools in Action:

  • Before: Overwhelming sadness, uncertainty, potential for reactive behaviors (overeating, overworking, people-pleasing)
  • After: Intentional processing, deeper parent-child relationship, space for personal renewal and growth

The Process: Real-time application of nervous system regulation during a major life transition—proof these tools work when you need them most

Remember: Transitions are always met with loss because we have to close the door on something old before we can experience something new. But every difficult emotion is an opportunity to build resilience rather than fall into reactive patterns.

132. The Bitter Taste of Convenience: Unveiling the Unhealthy Consequences of Processed and Ultra-Processed Foods05 Jun 202300:17:54

Leave Health Bite a Feedback.Click This Link.

Processed foods have become a popular choice for consumers in search of convenience. However, it is important to understand that there are significant downsides to consuming processed food, such as decreased nutritional value and potential health risks.

What You'll Learn From this Episode:

  • Explores the implications of processed foods and shares tips for redefining our relationship with food in order to achieve greater physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing.
  • The importance of understanding what is in our food and encourages us to make a conscious effort to choose whole, unprocessed foods.
  • Understand how processed food affects our overall health, we can make informed decisions about our diet and achieve better health.

If you find that you are one of those Americans in whom are consuming 60% of their calories from processed or ultra-processed foods, let's scale back.

  1. Increase whole foods in your diet. Maybe start with one meal a day, maybe start with one serving per meal. Make a point of having a fresh salad before your meal and an apple as a snack. I know this is so basic and not sexy. But guess what, the stuff your mama told you, as basic as it is, matters. So let's go back to the basics.
  2.  Consider meal prep. It's never easy and in fact impossible to do things on the fly. You need to plan and be intentional which means that you need to be prepared and plan.
  3.  Include your family- one of the most common reasons we turn to processed foods is because of time and let's face it- having a family is a time sink- haha. And if you recall the statistic above- our kids are eating even more processed foods than we are and over a lifetime that could really impact their health. So include them in family meal planning, engage them, make it fun, and make it engaging.
  4.  Let manage our expectations- living a healthy and intentional life takes time. The notion that everything should be quick and easy is an expectation that sets us up for failure. Fortunately, advances in food technology have made life easier for us but the notion that it should be all ease is a false notion. Our relationship with food takes time, it takes effort, just like all important relationships do.
  5.  Last but not least, be kind to yourself. Don't expect

131. Food, Fun, and Freedom from Fear of Eating: Reclaiming Joy in Vacation Without Obsessing About Food or Ruining Your Diet28 May 202300:20:51

Leave Health Bite a Feedback.Click This Link.

Indulging in delicious food while on vacation is a wonderful part of the experience, but it often comes with a side of guilt.

Many people find it challenging to fully enjoy their meals without worrying about the consequences on their health and well-being. However, by adopting a positive mindset and making mindful choices, you can take the guilt out of vacation eating and truly savor every bite.

In this episode, we will explore the Vacation Diet and provide practical tips to help you embrace a guilt-free approach to food during your holidays.

6 Ways to Kick Ultra-Processed Foods to the Curb and Reclaim Your Health

  1. Shifting your mindset:
The first step in enjoying guilt-free vacation eating is to shift your mindset. Understand that vacations are meant for relaxation, rejuvenation, and exploration, including trying new and delicious foods.
  2. Practice mindful eating:
Embracing mindful eating can make a significant difference in your vacation experience. Take the time to savor each bite, focusing on the flavors, textures, and aromas of the food. Pay attention to your body's hunger and fullness cues, allowing yourself to eat until you're satisfied rather than overeating. By being present and mindful while eating, you can truly enjoy the culinary delights without feeling guilty.
  3. Prioritize balance:
Maintaining a sense of balance is key to guilt-free vacation eating.
  4. Stay active:
Incorporating physical activity into your vacation routine can further alleviate any guilt associated with indulgent eating. Take advantage of the opportunity to explore your destination by going for walks, hikes, or bike rides.
  5. Embrace the 80/20 rule:
The 80/20 rule allows you to strike a healthy balance between indulgence and moderation. Aim to make healthy food choices around 80% of the time, while allowing yourself to indulge in your favorite treats or splurge-worthy meals the remaining 20% of the time.
  6. Practice self-compassion:
Lastly, be kind to yourself. Remember that vacations are a time to relax, have fun, and create lasting memories. If you do find yourself overindulging or deviating from your usual eating habits, practice self-compassion instead of self-judgment. Guilt serves no purpose other than dampening your enjoyment. Acce

130. The Mindful Eating Revolution: How to Nourish Your Body, Mind, and Soul Through Food22 May 202300:24:04

Leave Health Bite a Feedback.Click This Link.

In our society where everyone is so obsessed with dieting, we have already come to a point where we cannot think about eating without overthinking what it would do with our body weight. This is removing all the joy in eating, making us forget that food is something that is supposed to be holistically nourishing.

But the rather ironic part is that while we are doing this, thinking that we are doing it in service of our weight, what it in fact does is the exact opposite—it only ever ignites our desire to soothe with food.

This is why I felt the need to talk about the art of mindful eating. Because here in Health Bite, we believe that having a good relationship with food is really what matters the most.

So come and join me in this week’s podcast as I talk to you about mindful eating and how you can do it in simple yet proven effective ways.

What you will learn from this episode:

  • Discover the ironic reason why we no longer find joy in eating;
  • Get in action: do a mindful eating practice exercise with Dr. Adrienne Youdim; and
  • Learn seven valuable pointers on how to do mindful eating

“Seriously, think about that – how our total obsession with our weight and diet and dieting and making food synonymous with the number on the scale has completely removed the joy of eating and the value of food as something that nourishes us wholeheartedly—mind, body, and soul.” – Dr. Adrienne Youdim

Today’s Health Bite:

  1. If it's not important enough for you to sit, then it's not important enough for you to eat.
  2. Pointers on mindful eating:
    • Make mealtime important, sacred, and valued
    • Sit down to the meal
    • Remove distractions
    • Savor your food
    • Acknowledge that food can mean a lot of things
    • Have a closing ceremony

127. Ensuring The Best Ratio Of Muscle To Fat: Exploring Weight Loss Drugs, Strategies, and Body Composition01 May 202300:22:16

Leave Health Bite a Feedback.Click This Link.

Losing weight is a common goal, but what happens when we lose muscle in the process?

When losing weight, what we want to happen is that we lose weight from fats. However, at some point, we also go through some muscle loss in the process. That can be so frustrating, and even discouraging, more so with the tons of fad diets circulating online.

But here at Health Bite, we don't want you to fall into those traps. We care about your well-being. We care about your success.

So join us on this week's podcast as we dive into a discussion on the best strategies for weight loss without losing your muscle. Learn why fad diets can cause more harm than good. Adjust your habits for the best outcome you can truly enjoy!

What you'll learn from this episode

  • Exploring strategies for achieving optimal body composition: Weight loss drugs, strategies, and muscle-to-fat ratios
  • Analysis of weight loss drug's effect on body composition and weight loss
  • The benefits of exercise during weight loss: Preserving muscle mass while losing fat
  • Preserving muscle mass while losing weight: Diet and movement as supplement

"No matter how you choose to lose weight—medications or not, be mindful of your diet and engage in movement. Stay clear of fad diets that can cause more harm than good, and remember that merely losing weight—merely shifting the numbers on the scale without intention towards losing the right kind of weight—is the wrong trick."

- Dr. Adrienne Youdim

  Today's Health Bite:

  1. All weight loss strategies result in some loss of muscle, and the more weight one loses, the more muscle is lost as a percentage of that weight loss. This can lead to a lower metabolism
  2. The diet consumed while losing weight plays a significant role in the degree of muscle loss. Studies have shown that a low-protein diet is not ideal for maintaining muscle mass during weight loss
  3. Exercise during weight loss is crucial for preventing muscle loss and promoting targeted weight loss from fat. Even modest amounts of low-intensity physical activity can be beneficial. It is advised to avoid fad diets that may cause more harm than good.

238. #REGULATE: Why You Can't Think Your Way Out of Burnout (And What Actually Works)18 Aug 202500:23:25

Leave Health Bite a Feedback.Click This Link.

What if the reason you can't break free from chronic stress has nothing to do with your mindset—and everything to do with your nervous system being stuck in survival mode?

Meet the science behind why willpower fails when you need it most—and the 4 body-based regulation techniques that high-achievers use to shift from reactive to intentional living.

In this first part of our burnout mini-series, Dr. Adrienne Youdim reveals why your brain literally cannot think its way out of chronic stress, and introduces the foundational step that transformed Steve Wilt (from our previous episode) from burned-out executive to tournament winner.

What You'll Learn:

  • Why your nervous system gets hijacked by modern "threats" like endless emails and decision fatigue
  • The neuroscience reason willpower and positive thinking fail during burnout
  • 4 immediate regulation practices you can use between meetings, tasks, and high-pressure moments

"All we can change, all we can do is be intentional about the way that we respond." - Dr. Adrienne Youdim

The Regulation Toolkit:

  • Before: Chronic stress, stuck in fight-or-flight, reactive decision-making, constant mental buzzing
  • After: Intentional responses, access to creativity and logic, sustained energy, improved performance

The Process: Body-based nervous system regulation through breath, micro-pauses, transitional rituals, and sensory grounding

Remember: Burnout doesn't resolve through thinking—it softens through intentional regulation that tells your body you're safe and have the power to choose your response.

  • Discover small and actionable tips that can help you maintain a healthy weight

124. Stop Self-Sabotage and Achieve Your Weight Loss Goal (The Real Reason We Sabotage Our Weight Loss and How to Break the Cycle)10 Apr 202300:16:50

Leave Health Bite a Feedback.Click This Link.

Do you find yourself constantly setting new weight loss goals and working towards them immediately that you forget to celebrate each win once they are achieved?

A moving goalpost is one of the most common saboteurs for successful weight loss, and I get it—as humans, we are insatiable in our desire for more; we want to do more, be more, achieve more. But what we fail to notice is that it’s robbing us of the joy of this journey and that it’s setting us up for burnout!

We should learn how to celebrate our accomplishments—no matter how small—on our journey towards better health. Learn how to keep the moving goalpost from sabotaging your success in today’s episode of Health Bite.

What you’ll learn from this episode:

  • Learn how to overcome burnout and achieve your goals by replacing the "moving goalpost" with a concrete plan and achievable milestones.
  • Empower your weight loss journey with the compounding power of small wins, and learn to make it joyful and sustainable for long-lasting results.
  • Find out how to achieve ultimate well-being in mind, body, and soul by developing a daily self-care routine, practicing mindfulness, and seeking professional help when needed.

“Allow for joy by celebrating yourself. I promise you that this tiny shift will not only make you happier in the process of achieving your goals but also more successful in obtaining them.”– Dr. Adrienne Youdim

Today’s Health Bite:

Manage this very human but also a very destructive tendency to move the goalpost with these action steps:

Step 1: Acceptance. See your goals as a process/journey. Focus not on the destination but on the moments. Understand that you’re a work in progress and that you never really fully arrive. Allow this truth to motivate you to keep moving forward

Step 2: Know that you’re not alone. We’re all in this together. Allow yourself to feel embraced by the collective experience. Take comfort in that truth.

Step 3: Celebrate your wins, no matter how small. When we celebrate our wins, we allow room for joy in the process, and when we allow joy, we pave a path to continuously move it forward. We are less likely to sabotage ourselves when we are engaged in these practices with joy.

123. The Obesity End Game: Exploring the Efficacy of Cutting-Edge Weight Loss Drugs03 Apr 202300:36:39

Leave Health Bite a Feedback.Click This Link.

Are you an obese individual who has been wanting to seek help and take weight loss drugs but haven’t done that just yet due to the fear of being shame?

It's been nearly a year since the hullabaloo began over the ‘new’ class of weight loss drugs, and as someone who has been prescribed them for diabetes and weight loss, I thought it was time to weigh in.  Because as these drugs for weight loss emerged in our society, an abundance of weight bias and discrimination also took place.

Tired of the endless diets and gym routines that lead to nowhere? It's time to consider weight loss drugs. Don't let shame hold you back from achieving your goals. Let's dive in.

What you’ll learn from this episode:

  • There is no shame in wanting—and even not wanting—to get help in losing weight through medications
  • The newest class of drugs, which are GLP and GIP analogs, are considered pretty safe but still has side effects from mild to adverse
  • Ozempic and Wegovy are technically just the same thing, and there is no such thing as an ‘ozempic face’, just a ‘weight loss face’

“Given the huge numbers of individuals who are overweight and obese in our society, and the impact of discrimination on their mental, emotional, and physical well-being, we need to check our biases against each other, and probably most importantly, to check our biases against ourselves. Stop shaming yourself if you are in this demographic and get help if you need it.” – Dr. Adrienne Youdim

Today’s Health Bite:

Choosing to take weight loss medication should be a personal and informed decision, not one based on shame. It's time we stop stigmatizing both those who are not ready to lose weight and those who seek medication for support.

120. The Cat in the Hat's Guide to Agency, Autonomy, and Mastery (Boost Your Emotional Well-being and Habit Change)13 Mar 202300:20:57

Leave Health Bite a Feedback.Click This Link.

Do you feel like you can’t change your life for the better if you’re going to do it alone?
Do you feel like you don’t have within you all that’s needed for you to live a life that’s healthier, and happier?

On last week’s podcast, we talked about the determinants of emotional and mental wellbeing, including something called environmental mastery, where we discuss how we already have what we need in order to deal with life’s hard times. But then again, even I would scoff at that notion sometimes, so I get it, that there are also people who find it hard to embrace that.

So for this week’s episode, we will focus on how we can cultivate our inner wisdom, and in doing so, be attuned to that environmental mastery that we all possess that will make us live more fulfilling, more nourished lives.

After all, our inner wisdom always has something it wants to communicate with us. We just got to learn how to listen and act upon that.

What you will learn from this episode:

  • Cultivating inner wisdom can lead to greater self-awareness, understanding of values, and deliberate decision-making
  • Developing a connection with your inner self can provide a sense of mastery over emotions and thoughts, leading to greater resilience and confidence
  • Empower individuals to exercise agency and autonomy, making choices that align with their goals and aspirations

“Trust yourselves, my friends. You have everything that you need inside of you right here, right now, and just as you are.”

– Dr. Adrienne Youdim

Today’s Health Bite: Trust yourselves, that you have everything you need inside of you; all that you need to be able to live a more fulfilling and more nourished life. You just got to learn how to listen.

This week, in honor of Dr. Seuss's birthday, the conversation started with a tribute to Dr. Seuss. The topic then shifted to the universal psychological needs of agency, autonomy and mastery, which are related to our relationship with food and our bodies.

The conversation then referenced Dr. Seuss's book, Oh, The Places You'll Go and the quote “You have brains in your head, you have feet in your shoes, you can steer yourself any direction you choose.” This quote represents autonomy, agency, and mastery values which are important for psychological and emotional well being.

That’s why for today’s Health Bite, I’m going to discuss three important psychological needs that if you could understand and apply in your daily life, could help improve your relationships with others, with yourself, and of course, with food.

Join me today as I shed light on how surrendering to what you can’t control could help you redirect your attention toward the things you have control over.

What you will learn from this episode:

Learn about agency, autonomy, and mastery and how they affect our lives:

  • Agency: The power to make choices and have an impact on our lives.
  • Autonomy: The freedom to act independently and make decisions.
  • Mastery: The feeling of being skilled and in control of something.

Understand "status syndrome" and how letting go of what we can't control can help us focus on what we can:

  • Status syndrome: Judging ourselves by external factors like wealth or job title.
  • Letting go of what we can't control: Focusing on what we can control, like our actions and attitudes.

Discover the potential of agency, autonomy, and mastery to create positive changes in our lives:

  • The benefits of agency: Feeling fulfilled by making choices that align with our values.
  • The advantages of autonomy: Being able to make decisions that are best for us without external pressures.
  • The rewards of mastery: Feeling accomplished and motivated to keep improving.

“Surrendering to what we cannot control allows us to direct our attention towards what we can control.”

Do you ever feel like you are trapped in an endless cycle of using mechanisms to cope from certain things that are also caused by other coping mechanisms? Have you ever found yourself on the way out of it, only to be enticed to come back to your old ways?

Being sober from escape mechanisms is one thing that many of us surely look forward to this year. That is why in our previous episode, I talked to you about alcohol; its short-term and long-term effects on you, and why you probably should take a pause from consuming it.

Colleen Ryan Hensley is a former Navy veteran and is a mental health advocate. She spent 15 years reinventing “mental toughness”, in the form of her program called #BingingSober which aims to help people take time away from the destructive escape mechanisms that they do.

In this episode, Colleen talks about mental toughness and the idea and importance of being connected with yourself as she relates it to the way we behave around escapism.

What you will learn from this episode:

  • Learn about the concept of self-connection and its importance on your journey toward sobriety;
  • Get a deeper understanding of the escapisms that we use to soothe and their short-term and long-term effects; and
  • Get tips on how to retrain your mind not to think that you need to indulge in escapisms

“#BingingSober is about abstaining from one of your unhealthy habits. Be a part of a routine. A lot of these are unconscious, and since they're so socially acceptable, it's just a part of our everyday and we don't ever question it. So, it's a matter of being an active participant in our lives and stepping away from something for as little as 24 hours.” – Colleen Ryan Hensley

Today’s Health Bite: It's okay to just be okay, be at that zero. That balance is the sober state that I believe we're all seeking.

Are you that kind of person who loves to have a sip of that wine during or after finishing a stressful task? Or are you a beer person who treats himself with an ice-cold bottle of draft beer after a long day’s work?

We all have heard about the benefits of alcohol on our body. The antioxidants that it contains, its relaxing effects, and simply the overall feeling of ease that it gives us. It is hard to imagine a month – or even a week without treating yourself with your liquor of choice.

But the thing is, yes, it is true that it soothes you, but only in that very moment. After the kick is gone, there comes its negative effects on you, which are often the opposite of the sensations that it. And yes, the negative effects of it both come in short and long terms. So, while it is a fact that it does have benefits for your body, it is not as harmless as you think.

Tune in as we talk about our relationship with alcohol and its effects on our mental and physical health.

111. Breaking Free from Diet Culture and the Illusion of Quick Fixes ( A New Year, A New You)09 Jan 202300:11:23

Leave Health Bite a Feedback.Click This Link.

Have you ever had the phrase "to lose weight" in your list of new year's resolutions? What happened? Were you able to do it, or did you – for some reasons – terribly fail?

Losing weight is still one of the most popular new year’s resolutions up to this date. Many people tend to do it by means of “diet”, though that culture is now slowly being canceled.

That is good, won't lie. Diet culture brings us more bad than good, afterall. But as people reject diet culture nowadays, the thought and act of losing weight – which again, should not be shamed – is continuously being brought along with it.

As we've always talked about, wanting to be better for ourselves and loved ones isn't supposed to be placed under negative spaces. So I invite you to tune in as Dr. Adrienne once again reminds you that while you are good just as you are, and you can be healthy just as you are, still, there is no shame in wanting to lose weight, to be better, for a better life.

In this episode, Dr. Adrienne discusses how our relationship with food reflects our relationship with ourselves as she points out the reason why the word “resolution” is politically incorrect and explains why we should reject diet culture without shaming ourselves for wanting to lose weight.

What you will learn from this episode:

  • Understand why the concept of "resolution" may not be helpful or inclusive, and consider alternative ways to set goals
  • Explore the importance of self-acceptance and self-care, and how they can coexist with the desire to improve health and well-being
  • Learn about the role of compassion and accountability in addressing excess weight, and how they can support positive change

“If you think the word “resolution” is politically incorrect, try saying 'weight loss'."

– Dr. Adrienne Youdim

Today’s Health Bite: Wanting to lose weight is not the same as shaming yourself or suggesting that you are not enough. In fact, it's the opposite. Let's reject diet culture together, but let's also reject that notion that trying or wanting to do something for yourself, for your mind, and for your body by losing weight is shameful

Leave Health Bite a Feedback.Click This Link.

Just like that, the past year is over and we are now in 2023. I am sure many of you already have your new year’s resolutions set, be it going regularly in the gym this year, having more control of your diet, and many other typical goals for your physical and mental well-being.

But spoiler alert: many of such goals fail early into the year. That is because this approach is not kind, and it is really not practical, either. It pushes you into thinking that you must do something perfectly, and beat yourself up when things don’t go as planned.

Instead of going for these specific goals for the beginning of 2023, why not indulge in a mindset of positive-self acceptance? It teaches you that you are enough, but more importantly, it teaches you that you can still be better, in a much kinder way.

In this episode, Dr. Adrienne talks about how scrapping the old “new year, new me” mindset and delving into positive self-acceptance is a kinder and more effective approach to having better well-being.

What you will learn from this episode:

  • Find out why you should get rid of the typical new year’s resolution mindset;

108. Tips to Manage the Holiday Food Scene: How to Manage Holiday Food Cues and Keep Above the Noise While Still Enjoying and Celebrating19 Dec 202200:20:47

Leave Health Bite a Feedback.Click This Link.

Do you find yourself constantly craving for food this holiday season? Does the sight and smell of those hot chocolate chip cookies and cute little bite-sized chocolates make you feel hungry, even if you know you’re not?

The holiday season is when food pollution is literally everywhere. And it is not uncommon for you to crave for those deliciously looking sweets and decadent crackers no matter how hard you try not to.

You see, there is this thing called “food cues” or “food triggers”, and it is what makes you want to eat certain foods just by seeing it or smelling it even if you are not really hungry. This is known to us as cravings, and no, it is not hunger. Tune in as we talk about food pollution and how you could keep yourself “safe” from it not just this holiday season but on a regular basis.

In this episode, Dr. Adrienne shares with us some tips on how to avoid being “hijacked” by food cues, especially in this holiday season.

What you will learn from this episode:

  • Science-backed ways to avoid holiday weight gain
  • The influence of food cues on what, when, and how much we eat
  • How to mindfully manage your food cravings without having to fight them

“We are hardwired so that the mere sight or smell of food… prompts a desire to eat. And of course, this is known as a craving. And of course, this is not hunger.”

– Dr. Adrienne Youdim

Today’s Health Bite: If we are not aware, then we stand no chance of interrupting the automatic reactions we have to our triggers.

Key Takeaways:

“Scientific studies show that when we are exposed to food cues for high calorie, highly palatable foods, a.k.a. super yummy, calorie-dense foods, we increase consumption of these foods as well as consumption of other foods, resulting in eating more, and ultimately, in weight gain.” – Dr. Adrienne Youdim

“When we pause between our trigger and our reaction, between our desire and habitual response, that is where we can distinguish emotional hunger from physical hunger.” – Dr. Adrienne Youdim

“There are times in our lives when we're in an unhealthy place with food, and to be moderate is just not an option.” – Dr. Adrienne Youdim

Do you want to change your lifestyle for the better by means of exercising and eating a nutritious diet, but somehow feel like you’d be punishing yourself in trying to do so?

It has become so common for us to associate the terms “exercise” and “wholesome, nutritious food” with negative connotations that without us knowing, we've already started to find these words as restrictive; punishing, and more so.

This mirrors what we have always talked about in this podcast -- that our mental and physical well-being are very much connected to each other.

That’s why in this episode of Health Bite, we will talk about this unhealthy pattern of thought process that greatly affects our behavior towards body movement and a healthy, wholesome and nutritious diet. Join Dr. Adrienne as she shares how our mindset can get in our way when it comes to engaging in a fruitful lifestyle and health.

In this episode, Dr. Adrienne tackles the connection between our mindset and our behavior towards moving our bodies and having a wholesome and nutritious diet.

What you will learn from this episode:

  • Learn how our words affect the way we act on things like exercise and healthy diet;
  • Learn how to properly address and assess how we feel when we do a certain activity or when we eat a certain meal; and
  • Find out how having the right mindset not only nourishes our mind, but our body.

“Be mindful of the words that you choose, the associations that you choose in regards to the food that you're going to eat… Your words, your thoughts, your feelings matter in terms of your actions.” – Dr. Adrienne Youdim

Today’s Health Bite: The only way that you can make durable change, sustainable and lifelong, is if your actions are in alignment with your beliefs, with your thoughts and your emotions.

Key Takeaways:

“There are all these positive associations and positive consequences that come from moving our bodies, and they're related to our physical health, but very much related to our mental, emotional health and well-being.” – Dr. Adrienne Youdim

“When we think about things negatively and in that way, it becomes a form of resistance, it becomes a deterrent to actually doing the thing, the very thing that makes us feel good.” – Dr. Adrienne Youdim

Leave Health Bite a Feedback.Click This Link.

Your pursuit of excellence is actually sabotaging your success. The achieve-then-crash cycle isn't just costing you your health—it's costing the global economy $8.8 trillion in lost productivity.

Here's what most people don't understand: burnout isn't a character flaw. It's a biological crisis—your nervous system demanding attention before something breaks.

Join Dr. Adrienne Youdim as she reveals why "work-life balance" advice fails high achievers and shares the science-backed framework to sustain peak performance without the inevitable crash.

What You'll Learn From This Episode:

  • Recognize burnout as biology, not weakness
  • Identify the three hidden stages before burnout
  • Master the "Regulate, Restore, Reframe" framework
  • Implement micro-interventions for macro results.
  • Understand the ripple effect of your burnout

"Burnout is not the first stage. It is the final symptom of long-term nervous system overdrive. When we don't have the tools to regulate our stress, autopilot takes over and we end up overeating, overworking, over-pleasing, numbing, and self-soothing in ways that drain us even further." — Dr. Adrienne Youdim

Obesity is an ever-growing problem among us because of our general preference for low-protein, processed foods. Again, as we have always talked about in this podcast, diet is a major factor in obesity.

But then, a lot of things that we talk about when it comes to diet and obesity are things that we actually already know. That’s why in this episode, we will focus on the whys instead of the whats of diet which will give us a clearer picture of what our eating habits do to our bodies and overall well-being.

What you will learn from this episode:

  • Discover how consuming more protein helps manage our hunger;
  • Learn about the relationship between the timing of food intake and your weight; and
  • Find out why a high-fat diet makes you more susceptible to pain.

“It's not newsworthy that weight loss diets promote protein. But understanding the ‘why’ can be much more powerful than the ‘what’ in helping us do the right thing for our bodies.” – Dr. Adrienne Youdim

Today’s Health Bite: Understanding the “why” can be much more powerful than the “what” in helping us do the right thing for our bodies.

Key Takeaways:

“We just don't eat less by eating less protein, but we replace it by eating more of the other stuff and have a greater desire for the other stuff like fat and carbs.” – Dr. Adrienne Youdim

“Number one, backloading calories by eating later in the day results in higher hunger hormones. Number two, back loading in calories also results in lower satiety or fullness hormones.”– Dr. Adrienne Youdim
