What questions and explorations are most relevant to us in 2026, given its astrological and energetic flavors?

This year, I invited artist and astrologer Mara Smith to discuss the arc of the coming year.

2026 completes the outer planets’ transition into new signs.

It also features:

* The Saturn-Neptune conjunction, which happens approximately every 36 years.

* The nodal axis shifting into Aquarius-Leo

* Jupiter moving into Leo

Mara and I weaved a unique analysis that divides the year into 3 equal parts, inspired by Mara’s focus on the decans in her practice.

Mara Smith is an artist who enjoys playing at the intersections of mythic time, clock time, and synchronicity in mundane reality. An educator by trade and lifelong musician, under the musical project finfeather she blends genres to create a wide variety of songs, many of which are hymns planets, archetypes, and the decans of the tarot. Her astrological self is currently materializing in a flirtatious experiment with an alter ego, Lizzie, a devoted student of timelord, Saturn. How do we understand relationality through our unique experiences? How might practicing astrology assist us in the art of living in deeper acknowledgement of relationality and reciprocity? 

In this conversation with my friend Odette Blooms, who is an astrologer, an artist, and a mystic, we explored the theme of relationality as reflected through our lived experiences, as well as how Odette and I embody that experiential concept within our astrological & artistic practice. 

We discussed what it means to practice astrology as an art of connecting with spirit, of healing, and of remembering to give and receive love. We also spoke about the connection between relationality and reciprocity, as well as how these concepts make sense to us as immigrants who live at the intersections of collectivistic and individualistic cultures. 

It's a true conversation between two friends - a melding of two Mercurial, rhizomatic minds and two Venusian hearts. It moves at such a sweet, flowing, leisurely pace. To me, this is the tempo and the energy that Odette radiates out from their being: a gift of softening the edges of time through her presence.

Marisa is known for helping people of all ages and backgrounds sing with more ease, freedom, authenticity, joy, and skill. She has been teaching singing as a path of liberation for twenty years. She is the creator of The School of Vocal De-Armoring™ and Somatic Singing Pedagogy, an offshoot of the Libero Canto School. The Libero Canto Approach was first developed by Lajos Szamosi in Budapest before World War II. This holistic, process-oriented approach rooted in the Western Classical Tradition is her primary pedagogical lineage.

Marisa has worked successfully with professional and non-professional singers, many of whom come to her after experiencing extreme pain when speaking, or frequent voice loss, and others who want to explore voice as life-force energy and for purposes of their own aliveness and self-expression.

She also works successfully with singers with certain vocal injuries, and those who need a teacher who is able to tune into and work with their nervous system states as well as their bodies, psyches and spirits, in the service of holistically healing an injury that has deep roots.

Marisa founded and directed the NYC-based embodied vocal-performance ensemble, Constellation Chor || an immersion in voice, movement, and spirit for ten years. How might energetic medicine assist us to be with grief? How might exploring our internal and external landscapes assist us with the process of walking alongside grief?

Grief is a primal, integral part of the human experience. And yet, many of us find it challenging to be with, to process, and to understand our experiences with grief.

In this potently alive conversation, Marika Clymer and I discussed Marika's experiences with grief and how it led to her upcoming offering, The Cartography of Grief.

This is the first conversation I recorded with Marika since completing a year-long apprenticeship with her in 2022. Cartography of Grief is a 2-month online journey to explore the landscape of grief in an intimate community that will meet every other Saturday from February 3rd through March 16th, 2024. Registration will close on Friday, February 2nd, 2024 or when all spots are filled. There is also an optional, in-person retreat in March, where participants will gather in the forests of Washington state for an opportunity to integrate the journey through an embodied relationship with the land.

First and foremost, I am a mom of two amazing kids, ages ten and fifteen. We live in BEAUTIFUL coastal California and feel so lucky to be here.

I come from a big, international family.  I was born in Bangkok, Thailand, and grew up in Bangladesh, Pakistan, Kenya, and northern Virginia.  I received my Masters in Social Work from Smith College in Massachusetts in 2001.  I then worked as a clinical social worker, psychotherapist, and body worker for most of the past twenty years. I specialized in prevention, treatment, and investigation of child abuse, attachment, and trauma.

In 2018, the spirit world made it very clear that it was time for me to move on from that very important work to the calling of my soul – assisting people to navigate the beautiful and often challenging experience of awakening to their ultimate, cosmic selves and souls.

For many years, since I was 21 years old, I have had an ability to see many things beyond the physical world – spirits of all kinds, past lives, the structure of people’s bodies and cells, and so on.

In the work I do now, I bridge both the Earthly world and that of the spiritual and cosmic worlds to support us in coming into our personal and collective relationship with the spirit world and our own ways of living as conscious beings of both the Earth and the divine.

I feel strongly that the world needs our wisdom, not only of our minds, but of our whole beings - our minds, hearts, bodies, spirits, and selves as beings of the Earth, cosmos, and infinity.

What is The Emergent No? How do we listen and tend to The Emergent No? How can astrology help us in the process of embracing the intense emotions that may come up from our Emergent No?

I'm grateful to share a conversation with my dear friend, collaborator, and mentor Britten LaRue. In 2021, Britten began sharing a framework that she named 'The Emergent No.' In honor of eclipse season, where so many of us receive intense invitations from the cosmos to release things - some of which may feel like a relief and some bringing up a wave of grief - I want to invite Britten to share the wisdom she's grown from tending to the Emergent No's within herself and her clients.

What is Radical Aliveness? How can we explore the principles of Radical Aliveness in the laboratory space of our lives? How might being in a group process help us with exploring our deep feelings?

Being in conversation with my friend and teacher Madison Nees is always a profound experience for me. I'm excited for you to listen in and to explore this alive, glowing, curious space we co-created. 

My first conversation with Madison for Healing The Spirit (Ep. 22 Dancing in The Underworld) was recorded about a year ago, right before the first run of her offering, Katabasis: A Journey to Aliveness.

This time, Madison and I met at the crossroads. I’m currently at the end of a yearlong journey with my offering, Astrology as Praxis, and Madison is about to re-enter the field of Katabasis for its second cohort.

The principles of Radical Aliveness guided our conversation. The principles are:

Here's Madison's bio:

Madison Nees is a human, counselor, artist, and guide. My practice focuses on the intersection of ecology, ritual and somatics. I have worked in the addiction and trauma treatment industry since 2015. My own journey includes healing from substance use, anorexia nervosa, loss of culture and self. When I began my journey, I did not understand that the pull to somatics was a call of my ancestors. I was being pulled to heal all the things my mother could not and ultimately lost her life avoiding. I was being pulled to feel the things my Grandmother had no language for.

My body knew the language however, and it spoke in illness, pains, aches and rage. It also spoke the language of held grief and aloneness. During this process, I discovered gifts hidden beneath these repressed emotions. These gifts were the sensations. The gifts were the rivers of grief leading me home to myself. They were also the intuition and creativity of my lineage. I always tried to “do” something with the emotions but my healing progressed the more I simply sat with them. Instead of trying to push them away, I wondered what would happen if I let them grow. They grew into my practice today.

What does being in a body teach us about the nature of being in process? How might our lived experiences serve as connective tissues linking our artistic and spiritual practices?

Recorded in November 2022 - towards the end of The Lovers year, where the lunar nodes were in the Scorpio-Taurus axis - my conversation with Rachel Blodgett continued to work its potent medicine through me. Rachel is a kindred spirit and an artist whose work I dearly admire. You may know her from her Serpent & Bow garments. 

As I'm thawing out of a period of hibernation from creating and sharing conversations, this one feels ripe to share. 

We discussed about the secret body (a term Rachel came up with during our conversation), holding space for the human process, creating art, and symbols. 

It's a fertile, rich conversation that keeps on giving. The conversation unfolded in magical, nonlinear time, and I feel deeply that the themes we covered here are more present now in the collective than ever.
