A: Hey, I still can’t believe what happened between Sarah and John at the party last night. Did you see that?

嘿，我仍然不敢相信昨晚派对上萨拉和约翰之间发生的事情。你看到了吗？

B: Yeah, I saw it, but let’s just drop it, okay? It’s not our business to spread rumors.

是的，我看到了，但我们就别提了，好吗？传播谣言不是我们的事。

drop it

“别提了”、“不再谈论”或“停止做某事”。具体含义取决于上下文。

例句1：

I think you should drop it; it’s not going to work out.

我认为你应该放弃，这行不通的。

例句2：

Drop it, we’re not discussing this anymore.

别说了，我们不再讨论这个了。

例句3：

I think we should drop the subject; it’s making everyone uncomfortable.

我觉得我们应该不再谈论这个话题了，它让大家都感到不舒服。

例句4：

Drop it, you’re only making things worse.

停止吧，你这样只会让事情变得更糟。

总结一下区别：

“Drop it” 更倾向于结束一个话题或活动，语气可能相对温和。

“Knock it off/cut it out” 更倾向于警告或阻止一个不受欢迎的行为，语气可能更强烈和不耐烦。

“spill it”意思是让对方有话赶紧说。
