Harry Potter: Obliviate Chapter 1 | Seven Years of Chaos Book 115 Jan 202600:07:51

Send a text

Before Hogwarts, before the Boy Who Lived became a legend, there was a frightened little boy in a cupboard who could fix broken things with his hands and his fear.

In this prologue to Harry Potter: Obliviate  Book 1  Seven Years of Chaos, we meet a very young Harry Potter who has already learned that “magic” is a forbidden word and “freak” is the only name his relatives bother to use. When a shattered plate and a ripped scrap of paper both mend themselves under his desperate wish, Harry begins to understand a terrifying truth: the freak accidents on Privet Drive are not accidents at all. They are his.

This opening episode is a slow, intimate dive into Harry’s earliest memories, the first spark of his power, and the moment he decides that being different might just be the only thing that can save him.

Years after the war, Harry wakes at Prince Manor not to nightmares, but to the cries of his young daughter and the steady presence of Severus Snape down the hall. With Serena away visiting her ailing father and their son Caspian doting on his beloved kneazle, we see Harry as husband, father, and son in a home that is truly his. Quiet family moments, talk of future holidays, and the final fate of a disgraced Dumbledore in Aberforth’s basement bring the story full circle, ending where it began: with Harry reflecting on the night he was told he had a new place to stay, and realizing this was only the beginning.

Hermione tells herself this arrangement with Draco is temporary, a clean line between biology and choice. Then the cracks show. He will not meet her eyes, real talk dries up, and the library becomes her refuge while she and Ginny pull on the missing threads of Omega lore and learn how valuable, and how vulnerable, an unbound witch truly is. Non-disclosure vows, watched post, and old case files hint at dangers that reach far beyond Hogwarts.

Guilt follows news of Neville and Hannah, and a stolen classroom kiss reminds Hermione why surrender feels so easy and so complicated. In Defense class, tempers cool, and at the back table a careful new player takes a seat. Theodore Nott offers a hand and a name, and the slow burn widens into politics, research, and the question of what consent and privacy must look like when everyone can smell your secrets.

A secret room, a single word key, and a choice that should have been simple. Hermione Granger is learning that casual never stays casual at Hogwarts. Morning finds Draco Malfoy distant in public yet relentless in private, his scent a shield that turns corridors into contested ground. In class, Theodore Nott stiffens at the truth. In the library, Pansy Parkinson names what was done to her and calls it a debt. At dinner, eyes follow Hermione. By night, the door closes and want becomes something neither of them can file under biology alone. This chapter pushes the bond past rules and into consequences, as Hermione weighs autonomy, secrecy, and the peril of being unbound in a school that smells blood in the water.

In the silent heart of the Hogwarts library, want meets restraint, and Hermione Granger chooses a path that will not be simple. The aftermath is tenderness, tears, and truth told in a whisper, followed by a luminous summons that delivers her and Draco Malfoy to Headmistress McGonagall, where rules, consequences, and an extraordinary compromise are set out with clinical care. A single word key, kismet, opens a private future that must be kept very quiet.

Malfoy offers hard won knowledge and rarer books, the Malfoy journals that speak to what the textbooks never do. Hermione learns how scent can shield her in the corridors, how discretion will decide the shape of their days, and how easily a vow can sound like a promise when instinct runs hot. By night’s end, they leave with permission, a password, and a choice that will test who they are when no one is watching.

Made for Harry Potter audiobook lovers, this chapter follows Hermione Granger through a day of sharp longing, sharper intellect, and a choice that puts consent at the center. A chance to study with the Patil twins, an unexpected letter from Draco Malfoy that includes timetables and safe meeting spots, and a private library negotiation become the groundwork for a slow burn that values boundaries as much as chemistry. When Hermione meets Draco among the stacks, their agreement is simple and firm. He tests whether she can refuse him, she proves that she can, and together they draw a line that turns want into trust.

Draco Malfoy thinks he understands the rules. Then Hermione Granger shuts a door, asks for more than a scent mark, and bolts the moment he says yes. What follows is a razor-edged tangle of want and restraint as Draco confronts the worst version of himself, endures McGonagall’s warning, and admits that he knew Hermione’s cry long before Hogwarts tried to forget Malfoy Manor. In the daylight he pretends indifference. In the library he becomes her reluctant partner. In the quiet, he remembers the rescue, the almost-kiss, and the accidental claim that turned a corridor riot into silence. Hermione chooses a practical shield over romance. Draco chooses patience, books on Omega lore, and a vow to learn every boundary she sets. The slow burn does not cool. It sharpens.

Hogwarts holds its breath after the attack. Drawn by fear and scent, a pack of Alphas crowds the corridor until a single voice cuts the air and stills the room. Draco Malfoy steps forward, claims Hermione as his to protect, and turns a riot into silence, while the staff rush in and the night tilts toward the Hospital Wing. There, a hexed cocoon, a jar of Murtlap, and a hard retelling force Hermione to weigh justice, consequence, and what consent must mean at this school. By weekend’s end she has mapped her options in ink, written letters in secret, and returned to class with suppressants in her bag, Slughorn’s experiments in hand, and Daphne Greengrass at Draco’s elbow. One last choice waits in a shuttered classroom where Hermione closes the door and decides what she is brave enough to ask.

Instead the halls churn with Alpha rivalry, detentions, and duels, while Theodore Nott keeps a thoughtful distance and Draco Malfoy refuses to be drawn into the pack. After curfew, a chance encounter on patrol turns from polite escort to coercion as Alpha command tightens around Hermione like a trap. Pinned and slipping into subspace, she fights the fog until fury breaks the corridor and the one boy who would not be provoked finally is.  Hermione Granger refuses to hide. With Alpha pheromones thick outside the Gryffindor portrait and rival suitors posturing in the halls, she charts a careful path to an abandoned classroom in the Turris Magnus to say what must be said to Draco Malfoy. The door stays open, the apology lands hard, and an Arithmancy partnership becomes a cold agreement to work apart so her secret is not exposed. In the library, impeccable notes from Peter Selwyn tempt her focus while Anthony Goldstein’s questions cut to the bone of consent, biology, and choice. All the while, the scent of Malfoy clings like a shield, keeping other Alphas at bay as house points plummet and tempers flare. By day’s end, Hermione chooses composure over instinct, scholarship over spectacle, and a lonely seat in the back of class while Draco looks away.

When Professor Vector reveals that Hermione’s Arithmancy partner was Draco Malfoy, and that he has asked to be reassigned, the cut bites deeper than she expects. In the Great Hall, eyes follow her, Alphas drift closer, and a polished Ravenclaw named Selwyn makes his intentions known while Draco looks away and sits with his own. By nightfall, Hermione must decide how to carry a scent that will not wash off, how to protect her future in a school that suddenly feels like a hunting ground, and how to face the boy who fed her fruit and called her his.

Moody pushes for answers, Kingsley weighs impossible risks, and an unsettling truth hangs in the air: if Harry chose to disappear, it may have been to reach the one person everyone is still afraid to trust… Severus Snape.

Far from the panic, Prince Manor offers something Harry has not felt in months: safety. But peace never lasts. Late presents arrive with unexpected meaning, a glimpse of who Harry is becoming, and the quiet reminder that adulthood in the wizarding world comes with traditions, responsibilities, and choices that cannot be taken back.

Severus Snape sits in the Headmaster’s chair with Dumbledore’s shadow still clinging to the walls, furious at the old man and terrified by one thing he cannot control: Harry has vanished off the map. With the Carrows installed and Hogwarts turning into a trap for anyone who dares return, Snape plays his role to survive and to limit the damage. Then Bellatrix Lestrange arrives, suspicious and snarling, and Snape seizes a rare chance. He takes a key, rides into Gringotts, and steps into the Lestrange vault where luck and horror collide. There, he finds Helga Hufflepuff’s cup. A Horcrux. One more piece of Voldemort’s immortality within reach.

Snape steals it under the goblins’ eyes, carries it back into the school like a blade hidden under silk, and destroys it with a basilisk fang, listening to the shriek of dark magic dying. But victory tastes bitter. Harry is still gone. When Dobby reports that Zar has been seen at Prince Manor, Snape clings to the only comfort he has left: proof that his son is alive, somewhere, and the war is not over yet.

The price, however, is brutal: Harry must literally die for the soul fragment to be forced out. Over coffee and Dobby-delivered snacks, Severus explains the plan and asks the only question that matters—does Harry trust him enough to go through with it? Harry says yes. What follows is agony as the venom stops his heart, Zar nearly attacks in grief, and Severus fights to bring his son back with phoenix potion, CPR, and sheer stubborn will. When Harry finally gasps a breath and squeezes his hand, Severus knows the risk paid off… but the hissing in the corner now sounds like meaningless snake noise, and Harry realises that in losing the Horcrux, he may also have lost his Parseltongue—and his way of speaking to Zar.

Harry wakes from yet another nightmare of Voldemort killing Severus, shaken but grateful that his Occlumency shields keep the visions from being real. Too restless to sleep, he grabs an early shower, talks with Neville about the Ministry arresting innocent people like Stan Shunpike, and admits he would rather spend Sunday morning in the Room of Requirement than anywhere near Dumbledore. Training brings real progress as Harry coaches Neville through nonverbal spells, shield charms, and confidence, all while hiding the truth about the basilisk tattoo that is really his familiar Zar. Over breakfast under the watchful eyes of the staff, Harry reflects that the Headmaster gave him misery while Severus accidentally gave him what he wanted most: a family. Down in the castle, Severus tracks Draco to the library and discovers his godson researching the Dark Lord and Tom Riddle, proof that Harry’s revelation about Voldemort being a half blood has landed. Draco is fraying under the weight of the Mark and impossible orders, and Severus can only promise that if Draco comes to him, he will do anything in his power to help. Nightmares, lessons, and shifting loyalties collide in a chapter that sits right at the heart of A New Place To Stay.

Deep in his private lab, Severus Snape finishes the most dangerous brew of his life, a basilisk venom Horcrux removal potion built from Zar’s willingly given fangs and every scrap of Dark lore he can find. While it simmers, he discovers Harry’s secret basilisk journal, complete with detailed illustrations and research notes that impress him enough to suggest publishing under a pseudonym. When Harry catches him reading, embarrassment turns into quiet pride as Severus calls the work enlightening and rare. Over coffee, cake and talk of Dumbledore’s Gaunt memories, they dissect Marvolo, Morfin and Merope’s story, rage at how little the Headmaster is really teaching, and plan more non verbal spell training. Snape openly says he is proud of Harry’s grades, Harry teases about Hermione being jealous of the Half Blood Prince notes, and the chapter closes with a sense of sharpened focus: the potion is nearly ready, the Horcrux will be challenged again, and father and son are very much in this war together.

Back at Hogwarts, Harry slips away from Gryffindor Tower to Severus’s quarters, where coffee, Dobby, and basilisk familiar Zar make the dungeons feel more like home than any dorm ever has. He lets Zar out of his tattoo form to roam Hogwarts’s hidden tunnels, accepts his mother’s old annotated Potions book from Severus with strict warnings about forbidden spells, and heads into a full first day of sixth year classes. McGonagall tries to steer Neville away from his grandmother’s expectations, Harry quietly backs his friend’s choices, and then everyone walks into Defence to find Snape in full terrifying professor mode. A brutal non verbal spell lesson ends with Harry deliberately goading Severus into giving him detention, and Slughorn’s first Potions class crowns Harry the winner of Felix Felicis, leaving Hermione rattled when his Draught of Living Death outperforms hers.

On the Hogwarts Express, Harry uses an Extendable Ear to overhear Draco, Pansy and Zabini talk about Slughorn, Death Eaters and Draco's "bigger things," then walks straight into their compartment to drop a bombshell: Voldemort is a half blood named Tom Marvolo Riddle. With flaming letters in the air, he calls out the real blood traitors and leaves five stunned Slytherins behind. At the Start of Term Feast, Harry notes fewer first years, refuses Hermione's plea to start over, and hears Dumbledore announce Slughorn as Potions Master and Severus as the new Defence professor while Ron and Neville react in horror. A private memory reveals how Harry and Severus bound basilisk familiar Zar into a living tattoo on Harry's arm, and a subtle spell from the staff table confirms Draco now bears the Dark Mark. The year opens with exposed truths, broken friendships and a castle on high alert as Dumbledore warns everyone that Voldemort is openly at large.

Severus Snape finally tests his first real Horcrux removal potion on Harry, and for a moment it feels like a Portkey tugging at his scar and stomach as the soul fragment shifts but stubbornly refuses to let go. Shaken yet hopeful, Harry trusts Severus more than anyone alive and knows they are at least on the right path. Life at Prince Manor settles into a strange calm filled with runs around the pitch, Dobby fussing, and quiet meals while the war outside gets darker and the world starts looking to Harry as a symbol of hope whether he wants it or not. Letters from Fred and George reveal that Weasleys Wizard Wheezes is booming and that they are paying Harry a real cut of the profits, while yet another Sirius letter compares him to James and pushes him toward Ron, making Harry more certain than ever that he has to be his own person. By September, ten outstanding OWLs, a new broom from Severus, and a forced birthday at Grimmauld Place have come and gone, and Harry boards the Hogwarts Express with Neville and Luna as his true inner circle. A run in with Romilda Vane, fan girls at the windows, and a Slughorn invitation to a private lunch he flatly refuses set the tone for sixth year: Harry is done being paraded as a prize and is going back to Hogwarts on his own terms, with Severus as his anchor instead of Dumbledore.

Dumbledore arrives at Prince Manor to “borrow” Harry for the evening, and Severus hates every second of not knowing the Headmaster’s true plan. After hiding Harry’s second wand and locking the training room, he watches his ward walk out the door with the man who once ordered him to make Harry miserable. Side-along Apparition drops them in Budleigh Babberton, where Harry is used as bait to lure Horace Slughorn out of retirement. In a house staged to look ransacked, Harry meets Slughorn, sees through the act, and endures being stared at like a prize specimen while the old Slytherin reminisces about Lily and former favourites. By the time Slughorn inevitably agrees to return to Hogwarts, Harry is furious at being manipulated yet again. Back at Prince Manor, Dumbledore casually announces “private lessons” and insists Harry keep his Invisibility Cloak on him at all times, leaving Harry seething – and Severus ready to hear exactly how badly the Headmaster used his son this time.

While Harry trains at Prince Manor, the war closes in elsewhere. Severus attends an Order of the Phoenix meeting at Grimmauld Place, quietly proud that Harry has destroyed an Auror-grade training dummy while Sirius seethes with jealousy. Around the table they mourn Emmeline Vance and Amelia Bones, debate a failing Fudge and a possible new Minister, and hear how Dementors are massacring Muggle families while Voldemort tightens his grip. Back at Spinner’s End, Severus endures Pettigrew, tends two difficult blood-red brews meant for the coming fight, and finally returns home to find Harry asleep over a book. In a rare, gentle moment, he carries the boy to bed, then the next morning watches Harry read a Daily Prophet that brands him “The Chosen One” and announces Scrimgeour, Aurors at Hogwarts, and open war – right as Dumbledore arrives to take Harry out for their first Horcrux-related trip.

Harry is up before dawn at Prince Manor, determined to hunt Horcrux leads the Muggle way. With Dobby’s help and a hoard of old Daily Prophets, he pieces together the deaths of Hepzibah Smith, the theft of Hufflepuff’s cup and Slytherin’s locket, and the Gaunt family murders that were blamed on Morfin instead of Tom Riddle. By breakfast he has added the Gaunt ring to his growing Horcrux list and earned another rare moment of pride from Severus. After they eat, Severus takes Harry to the ruined Gaunt shack, teaches him to feel and strip Voldemort’s wards, and almost gives up when the place seems empty. Harry finally spots a loose floorboard, finds the hidden ring, and nearly dies reaching for it before Severus yanks him back and reveals just how deadly the curse on it was. When Dumbledore Apparates in to check the shack, they slip out through a tiny bathroom window and escape unseen. Back in the dungeons, Severus destroys the ring with basilisk venom while Harry watches another Horcrux die, then gets patched up from nettle stings and thrown straight back into dueling practice. The day ends with praise for how far Harry has come, a letter from Dumbledore asking for Harry’s help on Friday, and plans for more training and ward study as the war and the Dementors’ breeding ground keep closing in.

Severus wakes Harry at five thirty for potions and plans, then Apparates with him to Tom Riddle’s old orphanage only to find it gone and the area crawling with Dementors, proof that Voldemort has them under his command. Back home, a house elf report about Bellatrix and Narcissa at Spinner’s End makes Severus fear Draco is about to be Marked and handed an impossible task. Dumbledore Floos in to announce that Severus will finally get the Defence job and that Horace Slughorn is returning to teach Potions, using Harry’s fame as bait all over again. In the library, Harry pulls a Peverell based family tree, realises he and Voldemort share blood through the Gaunts, and digs through Founder lore for possible Horcruxes like Helga’s cup and Ravenclaw’s diadem while Severus starts hunting for a way to rip the soul fragment out of his son. Side by side over books, soup, and stubborn determination, they plan for Horcrux extraction, worry about Zar the basilisk, and brace themselves as the first Death Eater bridge attack hits the Muggle news.

Back at Prince Manor, Harry’s new life as Severus Snape’s trainee and ward really begins. An early run leads him to the manor stables where he discovers Abraxans, Pegasi, Thestrals and a Hippogriff that Snape has quietly rescued, then breakfast turns into a growth potion that starts to undo years of malnutrition. The morning is spent brewing Hospital Wing potions side by side with Severus, but the real test comes outside when Snape forces Harry into a brutal training duel and shows him that relying on Expelliarmus will get him killed. That night, by the fire with a stack of Defense books, their lesson shifts from spell work to ethics as Severus pushes Harry to rethink “light” versus “dark” magic, why any spell can be deadly, and how even the Killing Curse can be a mercy in war. Exhausted, bruised and deeply challenged, Harry goes to bed sore but certain that this kind of hard teaching is what might actually keep him alive.
