Simpatico Bio:

Simpatico is a producer from South Los Angeles. Describing his style as ‘Lofi Electro-Chill R&B,’ the young artist creates a dreamy nostalgic world of sounds with his lush and expansive productions. It’s the type of music that transports the listener to another level where they can forget their troubles one song at a time.

Growing up in LA, he fell in love with the passionate release of rock music, (having played in different musical acts) but it was the discovery of French house producer Darius that inspired him to start producing. After a few years as a hobbyist, he decided to make a career out of it in 2018. His official debut is the single ‘Moonrise,’ a chilled-out instrumental with nostalgic spacey vibes perfect for nights in candlelight. His most popular single “Tonight” features the talented up and coming smooth singer Ivylesson who brings a catchy, sexy, yet nostalgic track about romance overseas.

MALSI Bio:

MALSI is a singer, songwriter, and producer who fuses her favorite elements of R&B, jazz, soul, and pop to create emotionally jarring and cutting-edge music. Her trademark is in vocal production.

Before becoming MALSI, she sang lead vocals in the jazz/funk band Jesus, the Crazy, and the Bad Kids. Her band was a two-time winner of the KTRU Battle of the Bands, winning the opening act for Slim Thug at KTRU’s annual music festival. JCBK released one self-titled album shortly before breaking up. Soon after becoming MALSI, she released her self-produced debut album, Hades. Hades is a powerhouse of soul, catchy and vibrant with ten tracks all penned by herself during various points of her life. Her fans say it’s a “unique combination of instrumentation that just works” paired with “moody, galaxy vocals.” Soon after the release, she started gaining radio play on college and community stations spanning from coast to coast.

Since the first album, her career skyrocketed; she's dropped 18 singles and 3 music videos (with a fourth currently in the works), landing her features in Medium, Voyage LA, TOO MUCH LOVE Magazine, among other online magazines and blogs. These releases also landed her placements on several playlists along with a devoted, growing fanbase. And, despite catching the eye of a major label, she's chosen to stay independent. Her newest single, Honey + M, is a collaboration between Simpatico (producer) and herself (vocals/lyrics) that dropped September 24, 2021.

Yousef Shami is a drummer based in the DMV area. During our Harmonic Heart Interview, they shared how drumming is a calling for them. They describe how their own individuality comes out through their drumming style. They share their tips for anyone just starting in drumming as well as tips on marketing and booking shows. Drummer Bio:

Yousef Shami is a drummer based in the DMV area. Upon picking up the drums in High School, it became apparent that it would become more than a hobby-- but a calling. As Yousef continued playing out in university and beyond, their aggressive, but tasteful approach to drums became well-known in the DC rock scene. Yousef is recognized for unique approaches to odd-time and displaced grooves, as well as genre-bending and challenging musical norms.

Scaffolded by a Civil Engineering degree and as an educator in the public school system, Yousef lives in the DC suburbs, pursuing the dream of teaching drums and continuing to be involved in multiple facets of the music scene on a daily basis.

Redi Berehe is a violinist based in the DC/Maryland/Virginia area. When Redi and her family immigrated to America from Ethiopia, her father encouraged her to learn violin through the Holmes Middle School Orchestra. Around 8th grade, Redi questioned her commitment to playing violin but continued from the encouragement of her parents. Through Annandale High School's Orchestra, Redi performed in concerts, the pit orchestra during musicals, and orchestra competitions. She appreciated the teamwork and deep appreciation of music during her time performing in orchestras. Redi found that through composing on her own she began to feel ownership over the love of her instrument.

She felt encouraged by the appreciation she received performing violin at her parish, Peace Lutheran Church. She also joined the Handbell Choir at Peace Lutheran. Redi explained the differences between playing in orchestras compared to jamming with friends in their garage band, Townhouse band. She joined the Oriana Women's Choir while a student at Roanoke College. She currently turns to her violin and singing abilities for self-care practices to foster wellness.

Baltimore-based guitarist Jeremy Hairston explained techniques he used as a beginner to learn guitar and how great guitarists influenced his playing. He shared the impact of a high school guitar-making class on his appreciation of the instrument. He also recounted how he got involved with bands: Flawed Logic, the Mercy Band, Lorde Ana, and Messiah Community Church band. DMV-based indie rock band AFTER THE MARTYRS shared their band's story during their Harmonic Heart Interview on 11/7/2020. The duo (consisting of Brenna Carroll on songwriting and vocals and Paco Galazar on guitar and bass) recounted how they were introduced through a mutual friend and started hiking and practicing music together. Brenna discussed how the self-discipline and rebellion of medieval female hagiographies and the eccentric nature of Florence Welsh and Kate Bush influence her writing, music, and performance style. Paco outlined his journey of first picking up the guitar to learning to play a wide range of genres. The duo is looking to incorporate more members and to perform gigs once the COVID-19 pandemic has gotten under control. He described how the film "Sister Act" sparked his interest in music and how great singers such as Toni Braxton, Luther Vandross, and Tina Turner influenced his musicality. Colombian-American band DeSanguashington participated in a Harmonic Heart Interview on 10/17/2020 to discuss the band’s music journey and the release of their debut EP, “Viajero.” DeSanguashington shared the history of the traditional Colombian music genres they perform, Cumbia and Vallenato, and how they merge these genres with rock, pop, and African inspired rhythms. They gave insight into their composition process and their experience recording their debut EP.

Band Bio:

DeSanguashington is a Colombian-American band from Washington, D.C, that combines traditional Colombian folk music with rock, pop, and urban rhythms. Founded in 2014, DeSanguashington has emerged as one of the premier world music bands in the Washington, D.C. area, recognized and beloved by the Latinx community and those who enjoy international music.

DeSanguashington has gone from performing in living rooms to performing in some of the best venues and festivals in the Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia area, including the Howard Theatre, Kennedy Center Millennium Stage, H Street Festival, Atlas Performing Arts Center, and Embassy of Colombia. In 2020, they released their debut EP, "Viajero."
