Edinburgh Rugby have a new home, right next door to their old one. They've downsized, but it is a much better fit. Fashionably, they've gone for the low maintenance AstroTurf. But like moving house, they are very excited and have welcomed visitors to join them in their house warming.

Last Saturday, Scarlets came calling and I was there. It was one of my best days at Murrayfield, well, my best day ever at the Dam Health Stadium.

I went to school and played rugby with Davie Gray many moons ago.

Since then he has gone to play for Scotland all around the world on the 7s circuit, move to NZ and has worked with the Hurricanes to help make players fitter, stronger and ready to perform.

As he launches his new venture, FLOWSTATE, it seemed the perfect time to catch up for a blether.

I have admired Kieron Achara from afar for years. I met him once when he visited the basketball team in my school, he is an impressive human. He is a presence when he enters the gym, he is a Role Model and should be listened to with his views in the game, sport, the future and attitudes.

I watched him play his last home game for Glasgow Rocks, he remembered me and gave time to my daughters, good guy.

His story is inspiring and I loved talking to him.

Walsh played for Samurai, coached for Samurai, won a 🥇 medal at the Rio Olympics as coach of the Australian Womens 7s Team and then coached the AU 7s Mens Team in Tokyo.

I have watched and loved 7s for a long time, growing up near Melrose in the Borders and then living in HK for 4 years fuelled the fire.

Ben Gollings is BOX OFFICE! He won for England, made the HK Magnificent 7 and is a fantastic ambassador for the game. The Samurai Pod Series has allowed me to meet some of the biggest hitters in the 7s Universe.

I have loved doing the Happiness is... Podcast and although it took some persuading, I couldnt imagine how it has reached people. 

Normally, I'm in the room to see and feel the reaction when I speak and ask the questions, so the pod was an unknown venture. 

After speaking to the MAGNIFICENT David Smith MBE, I felt flat. It was an amazing experience but the comedown was huge. I was tired. I couldn't believe what happened next.

Kevin McKenzie, the gritty, aggressive Scotland International hooker from Stirling County gave me a call and said he wanted to tell his story. He saw similarities between his journey and David's. The first call lasted 45mins!

Doing the pod inspired me. I didn't know Kev's story, I do now.

In 2015, I watched a documentary on TV of a guy I'd never heard of. 

Very few tv shows have had such an impact on me. This guy, David Smith, had faced unbelievable challenges throughout his life, and he had many more to come.

He was my hero. I was inspired. 

I've followed his story since, had contact through messages but never met.

I was delighted David agreed to be a guest on the pod. He is absolutely phenomenal. I love the man.

Heroes are everywhere, I had and still have many.

When I was a kid, it was the Dukes of Hazard, the A-Team, Han Solo, Kenny Dalgleish and Tony Stanger.

In Trainspotting, there is the 'Archie Gemmell moment'. That was Tony Stanger's try at Murrayfield in the 1990 Grand Slam decider for me. It was a moment I witnessed live, a moment I'll never forget and a moment I shared with the other 3.1million people that claim they were there.

Years later, I met my hero. To have him as a guest on the podcast is a HUGE honour.

In May 2019 I spent a very happy day among the lassies. The future is bright and I've seen some of the future recently getting caps.

I loved looking back at pictures and connecting with some of the characters from that day. It wasn't a big crowd, but we shared moments I'll never forget.

Tom Smith won in South Africa in 1997 on the tour most of my generation still look back on with rose tinted specs as the best. I've watched Living the Lions a million times!!! Tom Smith, with Woody and Wally took on and defeated the MIGHT of the Springboks.

I've been to Murrayfield a lot for a lot of reasons. I've watched Hibs v Barcelona, I've seen the Rolling Stones, REM, U2 &  the Spice Girls, I've watched Scotland and Edinburgh, I've played, coached and watched the grass grow.

There are a few people who completely amaze me with their attitude, approach to life and desire to be incredible. I have watched Mark Beaumont from afar for a long time, he continues to amaze me. I think he is as mad as a box of frogs, but I also think he's bloody magnificent. 

I've met him once in real life (he won't remember that!) and a few times virtually. Never meet your heroes? I did, and it was magic.

Social Media had been a wonderful thing for me. It has opened up the world and given me opportunities I am very grateful for. 

One that I still can't believe, was playing at Twickenham with a bunch of strangers. One of them has become a great mate who I speak to most days and the others became brothers in this amazing #RugbyFamily.

I started at Murrayfield and went to Twickenham for the day.

I've never met Rochelle Clark. I've admired her for a long time, hearing about her for the first time when she won the World Cup, and love that she is referred to by everyone as Rocky. 

I wasn't sure what to expect, but I loved her energy and enthusiasm and willingness to make herself available. I was blown away by her humble, honest personality, she is funny and kind and I really hope we get to meet in person and have a beer, or a coffee.

I'm getting old. I've known Andy Henderson for years. I was aware Josh, his son, was a very able stand-off. I've watched his journey from afar and admired his courage to travel and to go looking for opportunities. 

He's made San Diego his home, or at least his latest stop on his journey.

I spent a loooong bus trip with Andy and enjoyed hearing his version of Josh's story. I was delighted when Josh agreed to be a guest on the pod.

I love being at Murrayfield and I have many excuses to be there. On match days, I host Hospitality in the Thistle Suite. For years, that gig was owned by Doddie Weir.

When he decided it was time to finish, he suggested I take over. So for almost 2 years, I was living a dream and sharing a stage with the big dafty. Learning a lot, all the while having a helluva time! Then, I was on my own.

I love it and I'll always be grateful for the faith he showed in me.
