No. 96: Happy New Year + Peekaboo + HMMP Comes Full Circle14 Jan 202500:59:42

Hey Friends & Kin!

FYI:  THIS, JUST LIKE ALL EPISODES OF HAND ME MY PURSE, CONTAINS PROFANITY. THIS PODCAST IS FOR ADULTS AND CONTAINS ADULT CONTENT. Now that we've gotten that out of the way...
_________

Friends and Kin…

I’m back baby!!!

PEEKABOO!!!

Happy New Year and welcome back into the fray & if you’re new here - I am so happy to have you! So happy and SO DAMN GRATEFUL! 🙏🏾✨

To keep it short and simple this episode is jam packed with what’s been going on with me in the 7 months that I have been absent.  I also discuss all of the shifts the show will see - there are so many changes, I cannot even begin to list them here! So I shall not…

The most exciting change is the new beverage residency concept here at Hand Me My Purse. For the first quarter of the year, we will have a local tea company by the name of  HOLMES HYDRATION - and their tea blends are quite supreme. In this episode I was sipping on a blend focused on, “gut health digestion and inner serenity”… Don’t we all need all three of those handled!!! INDEED.

Also, I forgot to mention in the episode that you can save 20% off on the Holmes Hydration website (click here) if you use the special code:  HANDMEMYPURSE - WE LOVE A PROMO CODE!!!

Please do yourself a favor and go check them out. Trust me, it’s worth it!!!

No. 95: SEASON FOUR FINALE + LET'S GET INTO THIS SEASON'S TEA! 🍵🫖04 Jun 202401:18:10

Hey Friends & Kin!

FYI:  THIS, JUST LIKE ALL EPISODES OF HAND ME MY PURSE, CONTAINS PROFANITY. THIS PODCAST IS FOR ADULTS AND CONTAINS ADULT CONTENT. Now that we've gotten that out of the way...

_________

Friends and Kin this episode is the SEASON 4 FINALE!!! This is all about SEASON 4! The ups. The downs. The wins. The losses. The energy. The confusion. The experience.  And what an experience it has been! I get into detail about what I have learned. What I will do different going forward vs. what I did. I have quite a few emotional moments as I was overwhelmed with gratitude & filled with JOY

I am pretty vulnerable in this episode about my process during Season 4 as I adjusted to life under the iHeartMedia umbrella. Having a solo podcast is not for the faint of heart. It’s a lot of work & a lot of focus. Please take the time to listen to this - I cry a few times! Of course I did! One thing I’m going to do is cry! 🤣

GO LISTEN! ENJOY! GIVE ME SOME FEEDBACK!

MAKE SURE YOU SUBSCRIBE and/or FOLLOW THE SHOW ON WHATEVER STREAMING SERVICE YOU USE TO LISTEN TO YOUR PODCASTS - SO YOU CAN BE IN THE LOOP WHEN I RETURN FROM THIS LITTLE BREAK! 🤓

I am taking a break between seasons, but I will absolutely be back with more to say! OF COURSE I WILL… Y’all be good until we are together again!!! Stay Tuned! 🤓🧡✌🏾

No. 8: Sippin' on Hennessy For My Ancestors + Self-Care for Juneteenth w/The Bedroom Bartender.15 Jun 202001:03:01

Hey Friends & Kin!

Today's episode is our 1st w/a guest interview. Gina, Soul Creator of The Bedroom Bartender joined us for a lovely conversation. We discuss so many things from JUNETEENTH & why it is so important to celebrate our ancestors, supporting black businesses, self-care, Drake mimosas & we also play a new game - "What is Auntie Drinkin'?"

What exactly IS Juneteenth...

"On June 19, 1865, General Gordon Granger rode into Galveston, Texas, and announced enslaved people were now free. Since then, June 19 has been celebrated as Juneteenth across the nation. The June 19 announcement came more than two and a half years after Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863. So technically, from the Union's perspective, the 250,000 enslaved people in Texas were already free—but none of them were aware of it, and no one was in a rush to inform them..."

Auntie MeMe's jam this episode is, "Juneteenth Jamboree" performed by Gladys "Fatso" Bentley. Our question for Straight Facts is from Stefaney in Jacksonville.

Hey Friends & Kin!

So this week was pretty awesome in Black Lady Land, even though we had a couple of not so awesome moments. Today we are talking about friendship, sisterhood, Molly & Issa and a whole lot of other dope ish. TUNE IN!!!

Friendship -  a close association between two people marked by feelings of care, respect, admiration, concern, or even love.

This episode I am drinking on Green Pu'erh Tea! I have to say it's the best pu'erh I've ever had! Usually pu'erh is YUCKY and too heavy, but this is nice. I'm pleased.

No. 5: How to Cope w/Mother Loss during Mother's Day Season + A Special Giveaway01 May 202000:48:15

Hey Friends & Kin!

Well, Mother's Day is upon us. For some it's a great time - for some of us... Not so much! I am having a real ass conversation about Mother Loss. Yes, it's a thing. My therapist, Dr. Demisse, gave me some strategies to share with my friends & kin for this Mother's Day episode. She is pretty awesome & is also a listener and fan of, "Hand Me My Purse."

Mother Loss - the actual or perceived absence of typical mother-child experiences with a maternal figure. For some, but not all, this maternal figure is a specific person.

This episode I am drinking on Jose Cuervo's Coconut Pineapple Ready to Serve Margarita! It's pretty damn DELISH!

Auntie MeMe's jam this episode is, "Dear Mama" by 2Pac. Our question for Straight Facts is of course loaded with drama & comes to us from Jamie of New Orleans! Hey Jamie!

Make sure you listen to the very end because I announce a giveaway contest that will be happening on the Hand Me My Purse. Instagram page next week!!!

No. 85: Are You Living For Yesterday, Today or Tomorrow? + LIVING IN THE RIGHT NOW!12 Mar 202401:16:02

Hey Friends & Kin!

FYI: THIS, JUST LIKE ALL EPISODES OF HAND ME MY PURSE, CONTAINS PROFANITY. THIS PODCAST IS FOR ADULTS AND CONTAINS ADULT CONTENT. Now that we've gotten that out of the way...

_________

Friends and Kin this episode is around a topic that is a recurring theme in my life and it’s something I am actively working on AND THAT’S STAYING PRESENT!!!

I talk in detail about how through therapy I have learned (and I learned it slowly, and truthfully I’m still learning)that there is power and FREEDOM in uncertainty. If you are one who truly believes in a higher power than yourself and you possibly have an understanding of what true faith is - how is it that you really think you are in control of anything? Listen with the intention to take a step back & look at your life - are you living in the present moment? Of course, I share some techniques to help us stay focused on the present and keep us grounded.

Also, Friends & Kin - it’s for the HAND ME MY PURSE GRATITUDE CHALLENGE!!! Will you be joining me for this round? Make sure to listen to episode No. 84 for the details!!! We will be doing our gratitude challenge for 40 DAYS - from March 12th to April 21st. Feel free to also take a listen to the following episodes to get some insight on how we do gratitude challenges around these parts: No. 36 + No. 37 + No. 44. Check those out & get ready because it’s going down - IN A GOOD WAY!!!🤓

No. 84: From Grief to Gratitude + IT'S GRATITUDE CHALLENGE TIME!05 Mar 202401:09:45

Hey Friends & Kin!

FYI: THIS, JUST LIKE ALL EPISODES OF HAND ME MY PURSE, CONTAINS PROFANITY. THIS PODCAST IS FOR ADULTS AND CONTAINS ADULT CONTENT. Now that we've gotten that out of the way...

_________

Friends and Kin this episode is around a topic that is a recurring theme here on HAND ME MY PURSE. AND THAT’S GRATITUDE!!! Gratitude is the key to the streets. There are so many conversations that I have had about it & I know for a fact, this won’t be the last conversation had on this podcast where I will talk about GRATITUDE. It’s at the very nucleus of so many aspects of our lives!

I enjoyed having this conversation - with myself, and well with you! I went into some thoughts about how grief, stress and just EVERYDAY LIFE has led me to a space where I am a bit off kilter. It’s time for a full on reset. I have named my grief and given it a song! It was nice to change the narrative and shift it a little bit - so that I am not focused on the negative aspects of grief. It is a great conversation about how to switch from grumpy to GRATEFUL. ALSO, IT’S TIME FOR A GRATITUDE CHALLENGE!!!

We will start on March 12th & go until April 21st! I CANNOT WAIT!!! Please please join me! It’s a great time for a reset.

No. 83: Closing Out Black History Month w/Jonathan McCrory + The National Black Theatre. PART TWO.27 Feb 202401:08:53

Hey Friends & Kin!

FYI: THIS, JUST LIKE ALL EPISODES OF HAND ME MY PURSE, CONTAINS PROFANITY. THIS PODCAST IS FOR ADULTS AND CONTAINS ADULT CONTENT. Now that we've gotten that out of the way...

_________

Friends and Kin in this episode I was blessed enough to be in conversation with a Black unicorn, Jonathan McCrory of the National Black Theatre! His story is one of overcoming, perseverance and understanding WHO you are. What an amazing way to close out Black History Month!

In this two part conversation we learn all about my guest. We learn where he comes from, the obstacles and blessings that he navigated during his journey and what he is up to currently. It was a spiritually uplifting conversation that I am truly excited to share with you. Here’s a little bit about Jonathan:

Jonathan McCrory is a Tony Award and Emmy Award nominated producer, 2x Obie Award-winning, Harlem-based artist who has served as Executive Artistic Director at National Black Theatre since 2012 under the leadership of CEO, Sade Lythcott. He has directed numerous professional productions and concerts. He has been acknowledged as an exceptional leader additionally through Craine’s New York Business 2020 Notable LGBTQ Leaders and Executives. In 2013, he was awarded the Emerging Producer Award by the National Black Theatre Festival in Winston Salem, North Carolina, and the Torch Bearer Award by theatrical legend Woodie King Jr. He is a founding member of the collaborative producing organizations Harlem9, Black Theatre Commons, The Jubilee, Next Generation National Network and The Movement Theatre Company. McCrory sits on the National Advisory Committee for Howlround.com and was a member of the original cohort for ArtEquity. A Washington, DC native, McCrory attended the Duke Ellington School of the Arts and New York University’s TISCH School of the Arts.

Enjoy this conversation, as I had such a wonderful time speaking with Jonathan about his life and his work. His story, the work he is doing as well as the work of the National Black Theatre should be something that we know about & THAT, friends & kin is exactly why I am sharing his story with you. Even though, Black History Month is over on the calendar - we should live a life where we strive to learn more and more about our history and the heroes of our communities today.

This episode is one of a three part series of conversations around the culture of dating in the Black community. This series is about looking at some of the shifts in the current climate of dating. Our guest today, my friend Kandis, and I share some personal stories and experiences we have had dating - particularly with dating ONLINE. RETRO EPISODE No. 13: The Culture of Dating in the Black Community w/B. Jamelle06 Feb 202401:31:33

Hey Friends & Kin!

FYI: THIS, JUST LIKE ALL EPISODES OF HAND ME MY PURSE, CONTAINS PROFANITY. THIS PODCAST IS FOR ADULTS AND CONTAINS ADULT CONTENT. Now that we've gotten that out of the way...

_________

In the spirit of LOVE & BLACK HISTORY MONTH, I decided to go back into the vault. This episode is a retro conversation from, “The Catalogue”. It is one part of a series of conversations I had with some friends about the culture of dating in the Black Community. My guest Bianca & I discuss the shifts in dating within our community, as we recognize the MAJOR shift is what Bianca calls “THE NEW MONOGAMY”. We discuss some HOT TOPICS such as: polyamory, dating from a place of emotional ego, the conceptual origins of the “Strong Black Woman” & the “Absentee Black Man” and how all of these things created a shift in the way Black men and women engage with one another.

We laugh, dig down into our soul of wonder and get real REAL about some things that may make some folks uncomfortable. We draw on the notion that in order to heal – we have to get to the nucleus of the issue and the only way TO IT is straight THROUGH IT.

No. 81: The Current State of Urban Education - An Educators' Round Table. THE FINALE.30 Jan 202401:03:30

Hey Friends & Kin!

FYI: THIS, JUST LIKE ALL EPISODES OF HAND ME MY PURSE, CONTAINS PROFANITY. THIS PODCAST IS FOR ADULTS AND CONTAINS ADULT CONTENT. Now that we've gotten that out of the way...

_________

Friends and Kin this series has been in the making for a long time! I have been wanting to sit down and speak with a table full of veteran educators for a while. I wanted to discuss the state of education and get a pulse on what they feel is going on. It’s important to me to provide a safe and brave space for people to share their stories with the world - and so I did. In part three the educators & I spoke very candidly about the ways in which they feel hopeful about the next phases of urban education.

I had 7 fellow educators to join me in conversation about what is going on in schools as we know it. We all work in Baltimore City School District - a community riddled with violent crime, trauma (direct trauma, vicarious trauma, generational trauma, etc.), lack and sometimes just flat out hopelessness. Tune in to hear part ONE of a three part series with these open, honest, caring and brilliant educators. Be sure to listen and get ready for parts two & three in the upcoming weeks!

No. 94: A Fun Time Conversation with My Producers (WE ARE Rando Banjo & The Dirty Throats) + Kendrick vs. Drake + Understanding LGBTQ+ identities + MANY OTHER CURRENT HOT TOPICS!21 May 202402:01:26

Hey Friends & Kin!

FYI:  THIS, JUST LIKE ALL EPISODES OF HAND ME MY PURSE, CONTAINS PROFANITY. THIS PODCAST IS FOR ADULTS AND CONTAINS ADULT CONTENT. Now that we've gotten that out of the way...

_________

Friends and Kin this episode is a one of a kind experience to get a glance into conversations that my producers & I have on a regular basis. It’s a glimpse into the world of RANDO BANJO + THE DIRTY THROATS. That would be myself, my Executive Producer - Taylor & my Producer - Evan. This conversation was so much fun and so… AUTHENTICALLY UNCONFINED!!! That’s how I prefer my conversations actually - very authentic & very unconfined.

We talked about so many interesting things from understanding the identities in the LGBTQ+ community, Kendrick vs. Drake, taking accountability in our current society and so much MORE!  We even sing an impromptu song - that I have to say was absolutely PHENOMENAL! I LOVE THESE GUYS & THE DYNAMIC OF OUR RELATIONSHIP IS EXTREMELY GENUINE. So sit back and listen to us discussing so many hot topics all while having a good ol’ time!

I opened the show with this quote & wanted to share it again, so that it could be seen with your eyes… “Bless the daughters who sat carrying the trauma of mothers. Who sat asking for more love and not getting any, yet carried themselves to light. Bless the daughters who raised themselves….” - @soulfulvibesco on Instagram

GO GRAB YOURSELF SOMETHING TO SIP ON & ENJOY THE SHOW…

No. 77: HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! - HELLO 2024 + THE FOCUS NEEDED TO HAVE A SUCCESSFUL NEW YEAR.05 Jan 202401:30:17

Hey Friends & Kin!

FYI: THIS, JUST LIKE ALL EPISODES OF HAND ME MY PURSE, CONTAINS PROFANITY. THIS PODCAST IS FOR ADULTS AND CONTAINS ADULT CONTENT. Now that we've gotten that out of the way...

_________

Friends and Kin HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! Y’all it is 2024… WOW!!! Well, this episode is all about preparing for this new year that is upon us. It’s all about focusing on how to make this year the b best year that we can by being GRATEFUL & remaining in a state of GRATITUDE. Also, by being intentional about how we navigate - from something one would see as minuscule to a major moment or decision. It is such an important aspect of JOY & I don’t think a lot of people really understand that. It’s at the very nucleus of our JOY! And if we are going to be INTENTIONAL about JOY, we must first be INTENTIONAL about being GRATEFUL.

I also dive into how my aunt, my cousin and I pick a word to focus our attention and intentions on each new year. This year my word is DISCIPLINE. Do you do this? It’s so helpful and super intentional. What New Year practices or rituals do you do with your loved ones - or solo?

Friends and Kin in this episode Marcy DePina & I conclude our conversation about the man, the myth, the legend - Sweet Daddy Grace. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to be in conversation with Marcy DePina, creator + host of the, “SWEET DADDY GRACE” podcast. Who is Sweet Daddy Grace, you ask… Well go back and listen to episode No. 74 and No. 75 before listening to this one, then just sit back and get ready to learn all about the genius that was a millionaire who created the model for the modern day mega church. A Black man (because that’s exactly what he was) from the island country of Cape Verde, West Africa.

Marcy & I have a very candid conversation that flowed like water down a river about this powerfully eccentric man and all of his accomplishments, accolades, scandals and so much more. If you don’t know who he is - trust me, you will know so much more about him after this series about his life and Marcy’s research in creating this podcast. It’s a beautiful conversation and it just might intrigue you enough to go learn something else for yourself!

No. 73: Self-Accountability + What Often Keeps Us Away From Taking Responsibility of Our Actions. Part Two.21 Nov 202301:18:22

Hey Friends & Kin!

FYI: THIS, JUST LIKE ALL EPISODES OF HAND ME MY PURSE, CONTAINS PROFANITY. THIS PODCAST IS FOR ADULTS AND CONTAINS ADULT CONTENT. Now that we've gotten that out of the way...

_________

Friends and Kin this episode is part two of a conversation about SELF-ACCOUNTABILITY. In the last episode or part one of this discussion we talked about that self-accountability is. We discussed what it looks like, smells like and just the flat out truth about what it is at its core. We also touched on what could be at the nucleus of the lack of self-accountability in certain communities. COMMUNITIES BEING ANY GROUPING OF PEOPLE - FAMILIES, FRIEND CIRCLES. I went over in particular how it can sometimes show up in the Black comunity and WHY... Agree or disagree - it happens a lot and there may be reasons associated with that behavior.

In this episode I dive more into how we are going to combat this and stop this behavior. I talk about deflection versus reflection and I share some information I found on Faith Evans’ internet about how not taking self-accountability and deflecting is a form of gaslighting, narcissism and even emotional abuse. Tune in to see how we can all work on being more reflective and focus on being our best self in spite of mistakes and so called “failures” we may experience in life.

HAVE A HAPPY DAY OF GRATITUDE WITH YOUR LOVED ONES. AND IF YOU DON’T HAVE ANY FAMILY OR FRIENDS TO SPEND THE DAY WITH - KNOW YOU ARE LOVED. xoxoxo.

No. 72: Self-Accountability + How To Live Unafraid To Take Responsibility for Our Actions. PART ONE.14 Nov 202300:48:27

Hey Friends & Kin!

FYI: THIS, JUST LIKE ALL EPISODES OF HAND ME MY PURSE, CONTAINS PROFANITY. THIS PODCAST IS FOR ADULTS AND CONTAINS ADULT CONTENT. Now that we've gotten that out of the way...

_________

Friends and Kin this episode is going to ruffle a few feathers. I decided to make it a two part situation. Because it could be heavy - not heavy like the last episode. Not saddening, but a lot to process. Especially when we have to sit in what role we may play in keeping this kind of energy alive in our communities. It’s a LOT to process. Don’t take anything personally, cause everything ain’t about you! Love you!

I am talking about self-accountability AND the role that our cultural norms and communities may play in the lack of self-accountability. I offer another lens to look at the issue, just a different perspective that could be connected to how and why we may sometimes run from owning our active roles and responsibilities in situations we encounter.

Part two will be focused on how to remedy feeling like you cannot just own your behaviors and actions. So be sure to tune in for episode No. 73.

In true HMMP form, let’s figure out how to be better. ❤️

Friends and Kin this episode is part one of a heavy conversation that I had with my homegirl, Gina of The Bedroom Bartender! We both made a cocktail that was Autumn inspired, even though it’s been toggling between Summertime & Fresh Autumn Chills on the East Coast off and on for the past month.

This is part two of the conversation & it is HEAVY. We talk shop about grief. Gina losing her mom just as the pandemic got settled in its skin and me losing my grandmother at the top of this year. I went to Gina for some support, because that’s what friends do - they seek one another out for support when they can’t figure it out. There are tears, smiles, “aha!” moments and gratitude. Listen and I pray this is a blessing and helpful to someone who, like me doesn’t know what to do amidst their grief. May God bless us. xoxo

This portion of the conversation is relatively light, so part one is fun and you should try to make both of the cocktails that we made. I had a healthy gut version of a Hot Toddy & Gina had some mulled wine! Get a pen and some paper to take notes for the recipes!

Everybody has a place or a thing that is an instant place of joy for them - if you don't know your place or thing, you'd better identify it.  Mine is DISNEY THEME PARKS and the beach.  I decided to go see Mickey & Minnie - they always know how to make me feel better. There is something about just being in a Disney theme parks, that reminds me of absolute joy and happiness. I recognize some people don't get it, but it's my happy place.
I will be back next week with a really amazing two part conversation with a friend of the show.  Part one is light and fun, part two is heavy and helpful. Part two is RAW. See you all next week and I love you all so much. Happy Birthday to me - have a drink for me! It's a celebration!

No. 69: How Comparison & Competition Is Keeping Us From Joy + Detachment As A Way To Release Insecurity.17 Oct 202300:53:56

Hey Friends & Kin!

FYI: THIS, JUST LIKE ALL EPISODES OF HAND ME MY PURSE, CONTAINS PROFANITY. THIS PODCAST IS FOR ADULTS AND CONTAINS ADULT CONTENT. Now that we've gotten that out of the way...

_________

Friends and Kin this episode is a little all over the place but all about how society has it set up to keep us insecure. We live in a world that wants us in a space where we are constantly comparing ourselves with others and feeling that we need to compete with other people. We have to navigate this differently. There needs to be a mindset shift, but this type of transformation does not come easily.

I dive into how ways we can shift our mindset to focus on OURSELVES and the present moment to really enjoy what we have. I talk a lot about how the philosophy of detachment can be helpful in focusing on WHAT REALLY MATTERS - and here’s a hint… IT’S NOT COMPARING OURSELVES WITH SOMEONE ELSE. The real tea is that what matters is how we can be our best self. That helps us to be a better human for the people we love and care about, not for the people that we should not be concerned with. FOCUS ON YOU & COMPETE ONLY WITH YOUR YESTERDAY. xoxox

So FRIENDS & KIN, I am gonna be extremely transparent for this episodeIf you have been listening to this show since its inception then you know around September-ish, sis gets a bit of the blues. Not a heavy depression where I don’t want to leave my bed but we have to remember that depression manifests itself in so many different ways.

There are symptoms that we would never think to associate with depression. In this episode I go over what some of these symptoms can be, and let me be honest - after I read these symptoms, I was shocked! I learned there is such a thing called - HIDDEN DEPRESSION! During this episode I dive into what Hidden Depression looks like, because I can promise you - we have been hoodwinked when it comes to our perception of depression. Tune in and learn yourself something GOOD!

No. 67: A Real Conversation About Hidradenitis Suppurativa w/Jasmine IVANNA Espy. PART TWO.04 Oct 202300:50:47

Hey Friends & Kin!

FYI: THIS, JUST LIKE ALL EPISODES OF HAND ME MY PURSE, CONTAINS PROFANITY. THIS PODCAST IS FOR ADULTS AND CONTAINS ADULT CONTENT. Now that we've gotten that out of the way...

_________

Friends and Kin in this episode I had the pleasure of interviewing an amazing sista with a story that definitely should be shared. Jasmine IVANNA Espy, 29, influencer, filmmaker and advocate is a co-producer on the upcoming documentary, “The Beacons: Illuminating HS Stories,” a new docuseries from Novartis that highlights her story and others living with Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS), a disfiguring skin disease with no cure that causes small, painful lumps to form under the skin. HS is estimated to affect as many as 1 in 100 people worldwide. Black women under the age of 40 have the highest risk of developing HS and may also have more severe cases than white people. Despite this disparity, they tend to go longer without a diagnosis or treatment.

In Part Two of this conversation, Jasmine shares her experience with HS & how it has affected how she navigates life. She tells us about how this condition affects her as a grown woman, her mental health and social interaction. Jasmine also shares how she has used her voice to advocate for herself and others with HS. Jasmine took a diagnose that caused a lot of trauma as a young girl and has flipped it on its head to go out into the world and make a difference. She is a superhero! This conversation is one of the reasons I started this podcast, as there are so many stories in our community that are untold. It’s time to share them! Enjoy! 😊

No. 65: Self-Awareness + Who In The World Are You? NO, FOR REAL?19 Sep 202301:10:24

Hey Friends & Kin!

FYI: THIS, JUST LIKE ALL EPISODES OF HAND ME MY PURSE, CONTAINS PROFANITY. THIS PODCAST IS FOR ADULTS AND CONTAINS ADULT CONTENT. Now that we've gotten that out of the way...

_________

Friends and Kin in this episode, we are talking about something that a lot of people think they have down to a science, but folks are really clueless about & that is *drumroll please* SELF-AWARENESS. People do NOT think outside of themselves on a regular basis. Some people carry on like they don’t even know the world exists outside of their realm. BUT IT DOES. And if we are going to be INTENTIONAL about HOW WE LIVE OUR LIVES, we must first be INTENTIONAL about being WHO WE ARE AND HOW WE SHOW UP IN THE WORLD.

I dive into how doing simple things can help you to develop self-awareness in your life and how to incorporate different techniques into your daily living that will help to develop self-awareness in your life. The real question to ask yourself is - WHO IN THE WORLD AM I? No, seriously - who are you in the world & who in the world are you? Literally & Figuratively. I even included a series of questions to ask yourself when you want to do an evaluation of where you are with self-awareness. It might be time for a check-in!

No. 64: The Freedom in Being Single + Chopping It Up w/My Friend Kandis + A Good Laugh is Always Needed. PART TWO.12 Sep 202301:46:32

Hey Friends & Kin!

FYI: THIS, JUST LIKE ALL EPISODES OF HAND ME MY PURSE, CONTAINS PROFANITY. THIS PODCAST IS FOR ADULTS AND CONTAINS ADULT CONTENT. Now that we've gotten that out of the way...

_________

Friends and Kin this episode is part two of my conversation with my homie & big time friend of the show, Kandis. As per usual we are laughing, disagreeing, telling all of the jokes - and of course, discussing dating and being single! Tune in for some good laughs but also some serious dialogue around what it’s like to be single in 2023. We talk about some things that people don’t really want to admit - like the freedom in being single!

Listen, being single is extremely freeing and allows you to navigate this planet as you wish. So many people are hellbent on being attached to someone else or something else, but there is a peace in not being bound. Not to say that being in a healthy relationship is BAD, however, there is something to be said about being free to be until we (the singles of the world) meet the person that makes us feel FREE in a HEALTHY, committed union. Until I meet him, I will be focusing on myself and becoming the best version of ourselves that we can be!

Friends and Kin this episode that will keep you chuckling. I have one of my favorite guests on the show, my friend, Kandis. In part ONE of our conversation we are chatting about just about anything and everything - as usual. We always talk about dating, being single and just our present day life energy. When we get together it’s always a GOOD OL’ TIME because we cannot be around one another for long without BIG LAUGHTER being in the room.

This week's “STRAIGHT FACTS” question is a HOT MESS this week. Good Luck with that Mr. Glynn from Atlanta! 🥴🥸🫣

The We Got To Do Better quote is from one of my FAVORITE authors of all time, Auntie Zora Neale Hurston. She said to us, "I have the nerve to walk my own way, however hard, in my search for reality, rather than climb upon the rattling wagon of wishful illusions.” #POWERFUL ✌🏾

No. 62 : Back To School Is Upon Us + A Message from American Educators to Parents.29 Aug 202301:32:29

Hey Friends & Kin!

FYI: THIS, JUST LIKE ALL EPISODES OF HAND ME MY PURSE, CONTAINS PROFANITY. THIS PODCAST IS FOR ADULTS AND CONTAINS ADULT CONTENT. Now that we've gotten that out of the way...

_________

Friends and Kin it’s that time of year again! Time for the kids to go BACK TO SCHOOL!!!! In this episode, I talk about getting ready for back to school. Now be advised, THIS MESSAGE WILL BE FOR EVERYBODY!!! If you don’t have kids, do have kids even if you work with kids - directly or indirectly. It’s for EVERYONE. Because we are ALL affected directly and/or indirectly, whether you are aware of it or not.

You are probably wondering - HOW AM I IMPACTED IF I DON’T HAVE ANY KIDS… LISTEN, we are ALL impacted. Think about it…

Traffic - when kids are in school the roads are so congested!

Stores - the lines are longer, parents are frustrated with buying school stuff making them very testy and annoyed in stores & stores are always out of things we’d usually have easy access to.

But the TRAFFIC, MAN. SHEESH!

I also polled some educators across the country, about the state of education - TODAY. As in right now. It was such an amazing way to hear from mouths of the people actually out in the trenches. Please listen to this episode. I really enjoyed this episode & I hope you do too!

There are several shows wherein I have been in conversation about it & I can promise you, this won’t be the last conversation had on this podcast where I will talk about GRATITUDE. It is such an important aspect of JOY & I don’t think a lot of people really understand that. It’s at the very nucleus of our JOY! And if we are going to be INTENTIONAL about JOY, we must first be INTENTIONAL about being GRATEFUL.

I dive into how doing simple things can help you to cultivate gratitude in your life and how to incorporate gratitude into your daily living as a ritual. Go take a listen and get ready because it’s almost time to another HAND ME MY PURSE GRATITUDE CHALLENGE!!! No. 60 - Black Women & Incarceration + Been Down, But We UP w/Amber of The Been Down Project. PART TWO.15 Aug 202301:28:04

Hey Friends & Kin!

FYI: THIS, JUST LIKE ALL EPISODES OF HAND ME MY PURSE, CONTAINS PROFANITY. THIS PODCAST IS FOR ADULTS AND CONTAINS ADULT CONTENT. Now that we've gotten that out of the way...

_________

This is part TWO of my conversation with Amber of THE BEEN DOWN PROJECT! My new play cousin from L.A. in the 90s! If you haven’t already listened to part ONE of this conversation, I highly suggest you do that FIRST. In part two we dive deeper into her time in PRISON (not jail. there’s a difference…) and learn about her new venture BLOOM, the only restaurant in DC that is BLACK OWNED, WOMAN OWNED & QUEER OWNED! I am going to definitely have the Amber & her business partner on the show in the near future to tell us more about BLOOM.

Amber & I got to chat about some serious things, and some fun things. Like me, Amber has lived a HELLUVA LIFE. Very very colorful & she tells us all about them. One of the main focuses of Hand Me My Purse. is to tell the stories of people who don’t get heard often & an educated Black woman serving time in federal prison for a white collar crime is one of those stories. So sit back, relax and enjoy yourself as me and my new cousin, Amber dive into her story. I am excited to share with you!

The Straight Facts segment had a question that was LOADED. It was such an amazing question and was VERY layered, yet beautiful. It was sent in to us from Kay of Milwaukee. Thank you so much for such a great question, Kay! 💕🤓

Also just so you know, the music for Hand Me My Purse. is provided by none other than West Baltimore’s own… Gloomy Tunez.

I got to sit and have a conversation with Amber of the BEEN DOWN PROJECT, who is a friend of a friend - but now we are cousins (BECAUSE LOS ANGELES SAID SO!). I have been trying to sit and chat with this sista for probably two years, but we all know that LIFE BE LIFING & it didn’t happen… UNTIL NOW! Everything always happens in perfect timing.

No. 58: The Difference Between Loneliness + Being Alone + Choosing Solitude - It Ain't The Same!01 Aug 202300:42:49

Hey Friends & Kin!

FYI: THIS, JUST LIKE ALL EPISODES OF HAND ME MY PURSE, CONTAINS PROFANITY. THIS PODCAST IS FOR ADULTS AND CONTAINS ADULT CONTENT. Now that we've gotten that out of the way...

_________

In this episode we have a candid and off the cuff conversation about LONELINESS. I take a deep dive into what happens when you work on healing it by going straight to its core! People don't seem to understand just how serious loneliness can be if we just continue to brush it aside like it's not a big deal. There are so many health risks, and not just our mental and emotional health. Loneliness can adversely affect our physical health just as well.

I discuss the difference between LONELINESS and SOLITUDE or BEING ALONE. There is a MAJOR difference and if you aren't aware of what those differences are, well you need to just tune in and get some of this good information. Go get some tea, then come and get the tea!

We Got To Do Better: ”We have to declare ownership of our lives. With conviction & with a force equal to the law of gravity behind it, declare “I AM IN CHARGE OF ME, OF MY THOUGHTS & ACTIONS - AND I HAVE THE POWER TO LIVE MY HEART’S DESIRES.” - Susan L. Taylor

No. 57 - Self-Sabotage + How to Fight Like Tyson When It Shows Up25 Jul 202300:48:43

Hey Friends & Kin!

FYI: THIS, JUST LIKE ALL EPISODES OF HAND ME MY PURSE, CONTAINS PROFANITY. THIS PODCAST IS FOR ADULTS AND CONTAINS ADULT CONTENT. Now that we've gotten that out of the way...

_________

Friends and Kin this conversation is all about something that we ALL deal with from time to time. It affects us all on different levels but we have definitely ALL dealt with it at some point in our lives. SELF SABOTAGE!!! We must address the tendency to sabotage our success in order to show up in the world as OUR BEST VERSION OF OURSELVES.

I dive into exactly what self-sabotage is and the different ways it can show up in our lives. I also talk about how to identify and attack it when we notice it’s happening. I offer a few options on how to fight back when it shows up. It starts with really getting into WHAT YOU REALLY DESIRE FOR YOURSELF. So go listen in and start to process for YOURSELF what you need to do to create an environment where you are ready to fight against self-sabotage when it rears it’s ugly head. YOU DESERVE ALL THE GOOD THINGS, MY DARLING... YOU DESERVE.

The We Got To Do Better segment graced us with a quote from our Divine Auntie, Josephine Baker. She said, “You are on the eve of a complete victory. You can’t go wrong. The world is behind you.” & I am going to turn this into a mantra that I recite every morning in the shower. 💕

Friends and Kin this episode is gonna make a few people a little upset, but at this point we know that I am not concerned about that. Clearly, I am not here to offend anybody. That’s not my focus and I am not that rude nor concerned with being malicious to DESIRE to just go around offending people - especially people I don’t know in real life. However, some things just need to be said outright.

This conversation is all about seeking external validation. I get into the root causes of seeking external validation - especially on social media. If you’re unsure about where to start - you know I always have a link below to help guide you to where to find a therapist in your area. I hope you enjoy the episode and check out the jam of the week!!!

No. 55: The Price of Being Petty - Is It Truly Worth It?11 Jul 202300:56:21

Hey Friends & Kin!

FYI: THIS, JUST LIKE ALL EPISODES OF HAND ME MY PURSE, CONTAINS PROFANITY. THIS PODCAST IS FOR ADULTS AND CONTAINS ADULT CONTENT. Now that we've gotten that out of the way...

_________

Friends and Kin in this conversation we are going to talk about something that has our culture in a chokehold. I am talking about being petty and the way folks take PRIDE in being PETTY. When I say YOU - I am talking to me, you, you, you and anybody else that it is for. And that is for any and all of us who need to stop being PETTY!

I dive into the different ways being petty may show up in our behaviors, what could be at the root of those behaviors and how being petty can and does effect our all of relationships. I also touch on ways to shift that behavior when you are in the moment to opt out of being negative and unkind. Because, let’s be honest - being petty is just being unkind

Be sure to check out the jam for this week, it’s a FAVORITE of mine & the link for the book that our quote for
