What's your favorite John Carpenter film?

This week Trevor and Nick check off another flim on the "Nicks Mega Must See (Before he dies?) Movie List"! 

With the 1976 Carpenter classic Assault on Precinct 13.

This film had us talking about a buch of topics. From old school cinematic action - why you should skip the first season of most tv shows- to changing the way I view the first 20 mins of any film.

Let me explain what is going on. I have been going to The New Beverly cinema and watching all sorts of classic films I have never seen before. 

So it got me thinking... What other classics have I not seen?

Thus the creation of NICKS MEGA MOVIE LIST. 

From School of Rock to 2001 to Julia and Julia to Peeping Tom to Boyz in the Hood to Misery.

There is quite a bit of brillant filmmaking I have not experienced.

So to kick things off I wanted to start with a David Cronenberg Videodrome.

With special effects by the legendary Rick Baker Monster Maker I knew I would be in good hands.

To be honest going though this franchise was not easy.

But boy am I glad we did it. For the longest time I have sat here and wondered what the Wrong Turn franchise had to offer. 

And did the expierment of watching it backwards pay off? 

Short answer. Yes! 

Walking backwards to the Mecca that is the OG Wrong Turn felt great. Seeing the love and craft go into our favorite hillbilly mutant freaks with characters who (aside from Henry Rollins in WG2) I was rooting for the entire time and was bummed when they got...well you know.

David Cronenberg is back! For all the hype around people walking out of this movie. Its kinda relaxing? Its strange...but in the best way possible. Totally recommend. 

Ok so we need to be honest. We recently watched a handful of movies that on paper...we should have LOVED! But for various reaons these movies did not live up to the hype. There are a few things here and there that the films did that rocked - but overall they were pretty much duds. 

We had the pleasure of watching They Live for the first time on 35mm thanks to Cinematic Void! After watching John Carpenter's Vampires man was this a great rebound! 

***Screaming and Howling***

This week George and I review Robert Eggers latest - The Northman. 

A film loosely based on William Shakespeares Hamlet. With a good amout of gore, psychedelic trips and visceral actions scenes. We cannot recommend this movie enough to the standard bolt action horror fan.

This week our group voted for us to watch the 1988 Klassic - Killer Klowns From Outer Space! 

What a fun time this flick is - Still holds up with its creative set design - ungodly looking creatures and a cop who went through Korea and is tired of this sh!t

Our community really knows how to pick'em! George and I were blown away by this film. From the creature effects, the killer camera work and score by legend Harry Manfredini. There are a million things to love about this flick. Keep your votes and picks for the next film coming :)

After posting this question on our page we read some of your answers and give ours! 

There is one image that haunts everyone....do you know what it is?

Coming in at 46% on Metacritic... Whew buddy was this movie divisive! And not for the reason you think. 

This is our first "documentary" in the How low can we go series - and could be the last. 

Coming in at 47% The Town Might have Dreaded Sundown...But we for sure didn't dread this movie! 

In Matt Reeves we trust. 

Coming in at 49% on Metacritic we review the 1994 flim Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. Making us ask only one question. Have we gone too far?

This movie has the horror community SAWED down the middle. We landed on the enjoyed it side. What did you think?
