Today we have a very special guest - The Phoenix Mercury selected Pettis in the first round (seventh pick overall) of the 1997 WNBA draft. An Assistant Coach of the Chicago Sky Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) professional basketball team. She is an American former college and professional basketball player who was a guard in the WNBA for eight seasons during the 1990s and 2000s. Pettis played college basketball for the University of Florida, and professionally for the Phoenix Mercury and the Indiana Fever of the WNBA. The Owner of Project Roots and The Bridgett Pettis Foundation. Today she will be Rep Your Brand Award winner. 

Pettis attended Central Arizona College in Coolidge, Arizona, and played junior college basketball for the Central Arizona Vaqueras. She accepted an athletic scholarship to transfer to the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, where she played for coach Carol Ross's Florida Gators women's basketball team from 1991 to 1993. Memorably, she completed eight three-point shots against the Georgia Bulldogs on January 20, 1993—still the Gators' single-game record.[1]

She graduated from the University of Florida with a bachelor's degree in 1993.

In her final game, Pettis played for 4 minutes and only recorded 1 steal as a statistic.[3]

In 2013, Pettis Frank and Eddie Johnson started a club team called Team 2j Thunder. Three months later, Pettis was hired as an assistant coach for the LA Sparks.[4]

On March 6, 2014, Pettis was named Assistant Coach for the Dallas Wings. In October 2017 (after 4 seasons) Pettis announced her retirement from the Wings organization.

On January 23, 2019, Coach Pettis returned from retirement to accept a position as Assistant Coach with the Chicago Sky of the WNBA.[5]

Prior to the 2020 season, Coach Pettis left coaching to focus on her Nonprofit organization Project Roots.[6]

New details from Hoover police appear to cast doubt on a story in Carlee Russell case

New facts released Wednesday by police are putting the recent 49-hour disappearance of a Hoover woman Carlethia "Carlee" Nichole Russell in a new light. Authorities now allege that Russell:

• Left work with a robe and toilet paper concealed.
• Took a 600-yard car ride while on the phone with 911, following an apparently barefoot toddler on the side of an interstate.
• Recently searched online for terms including Amber alerts and a film about abduction.
• Had certain items missing from the vehicle, including snacks she'd purchased.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Hoover Police Chief Nicholas Derzis seemed to cast doubt on the story behind the 49-hour disappearance of Russell that began the evening of July 13.

“She said that when she got out of the vehicle to check on the child, a man came out of the trees and mumbled that he was checking on the baby,” Derzis said. “She said that the man then picked her up, and she screamed. She stated that he then made her go over a fence. She claimed he then forced her into a car. And the next thing she remembers is being in the trailer of an 18-wheeler.”

Derzis said there were two people in the truck, a man with orange hair and a bald spot on the back, and a female she couldn’t see. “She also told detectives she could hear a baby crying,” Derzis said.

Russell told detectives she escaped the 18-wheeler and fled on foot, only to be captured again and be put in a car.

Today we have a very special guest - Ralph Coltrin Boy Scout Survivor of Mount Baldy

On November 15, 1958, three Boy Scouts were lost in the Santa Rita Mountains. They were unprepared for the sub-freezing weather brought on by a snowstorm. Three other boys made it out of the mountains, but the search for the missing boys lasted until their bodies were found Dec. 4, 1958.

After a massive but fruitless search for the lost Scouts by 700 volunteers, a rancher finally found the three bodies east of Josephine Saddle on Dec. 4. Soldiers from Fort Huachuca stacked rocks and erected crosses where the boys were discovered. Then they carried Mike Early, Michael LaNoue and David Greenberg off the mountain.

In August 1959, Ralph Coltrin Jr., who was just 12 on the day of the hike, returned to the site with John Early, Mike's father. They carried three small markers fashioned by a Southern Pacific Railroad metalworker.

They found the three stone piles and wooden crosses and wired the metal markers with each boy's name to the memorials.

Thirty years later, in 1988, Coltrin returned and found two of the markers deteriorating. The third, Michael LaNoue's, was missing.

He decided to take the markers off the mountain. Greenberg went to his family, but by then the Early family was gone and the metal marker was placed in the Otis H. Chidester Scout Museum in Tucson.

"At the direction of the Speaker of the House, we re-engaged, had a very, very candid discussion, talking about where we are, talking about where things need to be, what's reasonable and acceptable," Rep. Garret Graves of Louisiana said.

Russia may lack reserves to respond to Ukrainian counteroffensive: Officials

Western officials said Russia’s forces in Ukraine are so badly depleted that Russia may lack the reserves to effectively respond to a major counteroffensive from Ukrainian troops in the coming weeks.

One official said Russia does not appear to have a dedicated reserve force to react to a major breakthrough from Ukraine.

The assessment, given by Western officials speaking on condition of anonymity to reporters, suggested they back Ukraine’s capacity to attempt an ambitious offensive soon and that the weakened state of Russian forces is increasingly favorable for it, although there was no certainty it would succeed.

While the officials could not say when the counteroffensive would begin, they said the forces Ukraine has gathered and equipped with Western help are now at an "increasingly high level of readiness."

Jim Brown, one of the NFL's all-time great running backs, has died at age 87

Jim Brown, a blazingly fast running back and a star of the Cleveland Browns in the 1950s and 60s, has died. The Hall of Famer was 87. His wife, Monique Brown, announced on Instagram that he "passed peacefully last night at our LA home."

"To the world he was an an activist, actor, and football star. To our family, he was a loving and wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. Our hearts are broken."

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell called Brown a gifted athlete athlete and "one of the most dominant players to ever step on any athletic field." In a statement, he also singled out his involvement in the civil rights movement who became a forerunner and role model for athletes to become involved in social initiatives outside their sport.

In his nine seasons playing for the Cleveland Browns, Brown established himself as one of the sport's all-time greats. But football merely was the start of a life filled with accomplishment....and controversy.

New Mexico gunman died in hail of police gunfire, likely his grim and final wish, chief says

A teenage gunman who killed three elderly women in New Mexico likely got his grim, final wish: to die at the hands of police, officials said.

On Monday, at about 11 a.m. MT, 18-year-old Beau Wilson stepped out of his home and opened fire on neighboring houses and passing cars, police said. He was supposed to graduate from Farmington High School the next day.

The rampage only ended when responding officers fatally shot Wilson in front of First Church of Christ, Scientist, at 713 N. Dustin Ave.

Before officers cut him down, Wilson ditched his AR-15, one pistol, and a bulletproof vest, officials said. A doorbell camera also caught Wilson screaming "Come and kill me" during the barrage, police said.
