Hey Book Lovers! Welcome to the Summer 2021 GrowGetters Book Club episode. As we are on a summer/winter break, we wanted to create an episode that would be jam packed full of inspiration and practical tips to apply whilst you are on your summer break or in winter lock down. We will be kicking off Season 4 on September 1st, 2021, so stay tuned as we have a banger of a season lined up for you.

So getting right down to business, we recorded this episode as a live event inside the GrowGetters Club with some extra special guests. In our Book Club episodes, we normally invite some amazing special guests to help us unpack, dissect, and discuss some of the hottest non-fiction releases that have the potential to positively impact your careers, and your lives!

In this special book club episode we discuss 'Designing Your Life: How to Build a Well-Lived Joyful Life' by the godfathers of Design Thinking, Bill Burnett and Dave Evans!

Designing Your Life is a super-practical, step-by-step guidebook that uses design principles to help you build the future of your dreams! The book invites us to approach our own life design challenges with the same kind of curiosity and creativity that inventors and designers have used to create innovations like the lightbulb, iPhone, and even the Internet.

By reframing challenges, shifting established mindsets, and foraying into the world of prototyping - Designing Your Life is the book for anyone wanting to shape a career and lifestyle of their dreams, and make it a reality.

In this special episode we had not one, but TWO very special guests join us!

Our first guest was Belinda Wall, who is the Founding Director of the Australian-based marketing and brand consultancy, Brand Amplified, AND she also sits on the Advisory Board of MaxMe, an online learning platform.

Brand Amplified is a business that is literally obsessed with all things brand. With a passion for storytelling, creative collaborations and success, Brand Amplified loves nothing more than working with clients on their journey from business to brand.

Our second guest is GrowGetters friend, seasoned book clubber, and all-round superstar, Keltie Maguire! Keltie is a clarity coach, speaker, and podcaster herself, whose purpose is to help small business owners & professionals cut through overwhelm, get clear on their desires, and take aligned action.

And of course, as always, you’ll be hearing from Tanya Garma (your Book Club host for today), and GrowGetters’ own startup legend and digital accelerator, Tiffany Hart!

So ladies, let’s get started and let’s get into the brilliant book DESIGNING YOUR LIFE!

72. Update: 2021 summer break and bonus masterclasses03 Jun 202100:08:30

Hello hello, GrowGetters! We just wanted to pop into your podcast feed and give you a bit of an update on what’s happening in GrowGetters land! As you’ve probably noticed, we’ve re-broadcasted a few of our most popular episodes over the last few weeks as we have been mega busy working on a big project in the background - which we want to tell you about briefly today.

To take a bit of a step back, what we’ve noticed over the last few months is that so many of our listeners, followers, and email subscribers have asked for more GrowGetters. More content, more skills sessions, more guidance, and more connection. We’ve received so much positive feedback from women, saying how much they‘ve learned, how much confidence it’s brought them, how it’s helped them elevate their careers.

So...we thought, let’s do that! Let’s give these amazing ladies MORE of what they want, in a way that suits their lifestyle and needs.

Enter GrowGetters Club! We’ve spent the last months developing a club concept for women where they truly can learn, connect, support each other, and most importantly, future-proof themselves and accelerate their careers! And we are so happy to say that we will be running the Club in BETA form over the next few months with an extremely talented bunch of 17 founding members. We will be working super closely with these women to go deep into their needs, pain points, motivations, and dreams in their careers, and get an understanding of how we can best serve them and help them gain the progress they desire!

So essentially, these amazing women will be co-designing this Club together with us so we can make sure that when we launch GrowGetters Club in Q4 of this year….it’s going to be something truly innovative, super useful, and a driver of a movement to see more women in business and leadership, and more women future-ready - because the world will be better off for it!

Our main aim with GrowGetters Club is to see you do what you were born to do!

  • If you want to design a career that aligns your passion with your purpose,

64. 5 ways to analyse your competitors to stay ahead of the game08 Apr 202100:10:46

Hey hey, GrowGetters! Welcome to another future skills episode. If you are dreaming of creating a side hustle, building a product internally in your company or you just want to be aware of how to do it in the future - then this episode will hopefully help you make the next steps you need to get your business baby out into the world.

This episode is super short and snappy and will give you 5 tools you can test out to check whether the market segment you aim to target is the right fit for you. So what’s one of the most critical aspects to consider before you start your side hustle? Well, that’s your “competition” and knowing what others are doing in the same space as you.

As a savvy entrepreneur, you need to understand that your business doesn’t operate in a bubble. There are many outside factors that can determine whether or not you will make money or get any traction. What’s more, you’re not just competing with a few local businesses anymore. Thanks to the Internet, your competition has increased tenfold. It doesn’t matter what industry you’re in – marketing is a game of competing for the attention of your audience. With so many marketing channels available today, competition is oftentimes fierce. Think about it - it’s competition for traffic, ad placement, followers, subscribers, sales and the list goes on.

And while the idea of conducting competitive analysis isn’t particularly “fun,” it’s absolutely necessary. So, friends, that’s why it’s important to be aware of what’s happening in the market and have a swag of tools to help you study the trends and plot your next steps. So without further adieu, here are our top 5 “market analysis” tools you can use to verify your idea...today!

63. From freemium to premium - how to develop a pricing model to boost your revenue31 Mar 202100:09:00

Hallo, GrowGetters! Welcome to another future skills episode. If you have a side hustle, hobby, or fully-fledged business and have always contemplated how to increase your revenue but still continue to grow your user base - then this episode is for you.

Over the past decade “freemium”— a combination of “free” and “premium”— has become the dominant pricing model among internet start-ups and content-based businesses like blogs, newspapers, podcasts, magazines, etc.

Users get basic features at no cost and can access richer functionality for a subscription fee. If you’ve networked on LinkedIn, shared files through Dropbox, communicated to colleagues on Slack, or spoken to a friend on Skype, you’ve experienced the model firsthand.

So if you have been contemplating business models and trying to figure out how to integrate a monthly subscription fee into your business, it can be a good move to create a more sustainable source of revenue than one-off fees.

For this episode, we investigated just what it takes to create a really good freemium offer that doesn’t leave you penniless at the end.

So let’s get started!

60. #IWD Special: The skills women need to thrive (live event)11 Mar 202100:33:01

Hey hey, welcome GrowGetters to our very first live podcast event in celebration of International Women’s Day (IWD)! This week we went LIVE with our listeners via Zoom in celebration of IWD 2021. This was the first time we recorded live (on air) in front of people (so forgive us for any fumbles and stumbles we made along the way).

We started this podcast because we believe that there is a genuine gap for “future skills” content for women, delivered by women who are also on the constant journey of upskilling, remaining relevant in our careers, and who have a thirst for knowledge in the worlds of business, tech, and leadership.

GrowGetters was born with a big ambition: to see more women at the decision-making table, more women crushing it in their careers, and more female-led side hustles and businesses…because we truly believe the more women in business and leadership there - the better the world will be.

So in today’s LIVE podcast event recording, we take you through what we believe are the most in-demand skills that women need to thrive in their careers in 2021 and beyond.

This is based on research from a variety of credible sources (from HBR, to BCG, McKinsey, and more), fantastic evidence-based business books, as well as in our own experience having worked in both the startup and innovation scenes which typically are some of the most pioneering fields when it comes to “future skills”.

Today we touch on the key skills in the following 4 key categories:

1. Leadership

2. Career

3. Business and

4. Technology

58. How to turn your side hustle into an empire with funtrepreneur, Sarah Davidson (author of Seize The Yay)24 Feb 202101:02:22

Hey hey! Welcome to GrowGetters - The Future Skills Podcast. Whether you’re looking to build a future-proofed career in your industry, or create a thriving multi-passionate, multi-income stream lifestyle on your own terms - then you are a GrowGetter and you are in the right place!

Today we are hosting a super inspiring Masterclass with one of Australia’s inspirational founders, lawyer turned funpreneur - Sarah Davidson!

One thing is certain… add a spoonful of Sarah to your day and you’re guaranteed to be inspired. Sarah started her professional life as a mergers and acquisitions lawyer at a leading international law firm. She spent several years there and learned and developed some invaluable skills.

However, she knew early on that “the corporate life” didn’t light her fire and wouldn’t be the long-lasting career she had dreamt of originally. Sarah’s passion for health, wellbeing, nutrition, and creativity soon took over her desire to work the 9-to-5 as a lawyer, and her then creative outlet and “side-hustle” called “Matcha Maiden” that she created with her husband and business partner Nick, started to boom and in late 2014, Matcha Maiden was asked to supply the giant US retailer, Urban Outfitters with organic green tea on a recurring basis.

Sarah made the jump into full-time entrepreneur that day and she hasn’t looked back. Two years later, she founded the trailblazing vegan café in Melbourne called, Matcha Mylkbar and launched her super successful podcast, Seize the Yay.

Her podcast is an investigation into how some of the world's most inspiring people find their "yay", whether it's through work, rest or play and any other pearls of wisdom they have along the way.

Sarah published her first book last year notably named the same as her podcast - Seize The Yay. I really enjoyed reading it and it pretty much sums up how exciting life can be when you grab it by the balls.

We absolutely loved learning from this amazing lady. So if you’re looking to create a successful business or side hustle - then this masterclass is a must-listen!!

56. WTF is Clubhouse and what we've learned after hosting rooms over the last month - Part 210 Feb 202100:12:30

Hey Guys, welcome to GrowGetters...The Future Skills Podcast. We are back again this week with PART 2 of our Clubhouse series.

So why are we covering this app on the pod you may ask? Well, this app is really in its infancy and will rapidly grow over the next couple of months so we want to make sure you are in the know - right from the get-go.

If you didn’t manage to listen to last week’s episode called ‘WTF is Clubhouse and how to use it to boost your professional profile (PART 1)’ and you don’t know what Clubhouse is, then please give that eppy a listen, as it will hopefully cover the Clubhouse basics for you.

Clubhouse has quickly become one of the top social media networks on the planet. The audio-based network started as a niche app for Silicon Valley insiders but has quickly morphed into a mainstream platform.

In today’s episode we cover:

  • Just how fast it’s growing
  • Why you should use the platform (if you are an Apple user as unfortunately, it’s not available for Android yet)
  • And some tactical ways you can use Clubhouse to grow your business or career.

55. WTF is Clubhouse and how to use it to boost your professional profile - Part 103 Feb 202100:09:15

Welcome, welcome GrowGetters to our first episode of 2021! We hope you had a lovely festive season and have had a great start to the year so far.

This week we are going to take a look at the new social media platform that’s rapidly rising in popularity called ClubHouse. So WTF is ClubHouse? Clubhouse is a new type of virtual network that allows people from around the world to connect and talk. The app was founded in May 2020 and in December it had approximately 600,000 users. This exclusive new social media platform was launched in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Clubhouse is voice-only, and as podcasters, we think voice is a very special medium. Voice can convey the most subtle nuances and one of the main reasons we started GrowGetters was to form unique human connections with others from all over the world.

But Clubhouse’s appeal is not just their focus on voice. The real appeal is that it replicates real life. In real life, it is very uncommon for you to just roll up to someone and start talking to them. Clubhouse is more similar to having a conversation at a dinner. It’s closer to a conference, or an event. You know the person, or you’re aware of the person, and you observe that person having an open dialog. Or, you could join in.

This week we dive into the 101 of Clubhouse and get to know what it’s all about. In PART 2 (next week) we will share our learnings from using the platform over the last month, ways we know you will be able to leverage it to increase your thought leadership plus more!

51. Book Club: Atomic Habits by James Clear with Tyneal Alexander from Ritual Consulting and Keltie Maguire from The Clarity Podcast26 Nov 202000:44:33

Hey Book Lovers! You’re listening to a #GrowGetters Book Club episode!

Each month, we unpack, dissect, and discuss some of the hottest non-fiction releases that have the potential to positively impact your careers, and your lives!

Today, we are discussing Atomic Habits by productivity and behavioural expert, James Clear! Atomic Habits is all about how small changes that we make in our lives, can compound into life-altering transformations!

The book claims that any good habit that is continuously repeated over time, no matter how small, will have a positive impact on your life in the long-run. Selling 1 million copies worldwide, and hitting number 1 on the New York Times Best-seller list, Atomic Habits is a book that has transcended the business world and can be enjoyed and implemented by just about anyone. But before we get started in our discussion, we have, not one, but TWO very special guests joining us today!

Our first guest is Tyneal Alexander who is the co-Founder of Byron Bay-based business, marketing and brand consultancy, Ritual Consulting.

She has developed a career in marketing and advertising for over 15 years, working for large multinationals, medium sized agencies and small purpose-led businesses, before starting Ritual Consulting with her partner, Laura Allman.

After almost 30 years of combined marketing & advertising experience in the corporate world, Tyneal and Laura were fed up with seeing wasted marketing dollars, mediocre brand differentiation, and disappointed customers - so they decided that maybe there was something they could do about it. And so Ritual Consulting was born over a margarita, a beach-side view, and a simple mission to build meaningful brands and successful businesses.

Our second guest is a familiar face (or voice in our case!). She has joined us in a previous Book Club episode and our listeners absolutely loved her insights. So back by popular demand, is the one and only Keltie Maguire!

She is a clarity coach, speaker, and podcaster herself, whose purpose is to help small business owners & professionals cut through the overwhelm, get clear on their desires, and take aligned action.

And of course as always, you’ll be hearing from me, Tanya Garma, your Book Club host for today, and of course #GrowGetters own startup extraordinaire and business babe, Tiffany Hart!

So ladies, let’s get started and let’s get into the uber popular book ATOMIC HABITS!

Today we have a different listening experience for you. Recently Tanya and I were invited to speak at an online event, hosted by our friends from the Re:Think Community - called ‘Launching a Podcast During a Pandemic’. Charlotte Han, our favourite futurist and dear friend of the podcast moderated this chat been Daniel, Tanya and I.

Daniel Fuerg is the founder of the mega-successful European conference ‘48 Forward’ & founder of ‘The 48 Forward Studios’ (a top-notch podcasting studio based in Munich.) Daniel and his team have produced over 500 episodes since the start of the pandemic (which is a lot), they have 7 podcasts they personally run, and his podcast called ‘Gin and Talk’ recently made it to the Trending List on the German Apple Podcast charts.

As you’ll hear, your #GrowGetters team, Tiff, and Tan also sat on the panel. Nearly 12 months ago we dropped our pilot episode of the podcast, and it’s honestly head-spinning to see where we’ve come since then. We had no idea how our passion project would take on a life of its own and grow to be an international podcast - listened to by women (and men) in Australia, NZ, south-east Asia, Europe, the UK, and the US.

Tens of thousands of downloads later, with world-class guests featured on our show, and ranking in the top 20 career podcasts in Australia and top 5 in New Zealand (not to mention in Germany, the Netherlands, and the Czech Republic) we could have never imagined that our pod-baby could achieve all this. And it’s all because of you!! Our loyal listeners that we hope we are inspiring each week to future proof your businesses and careers.

Soooo friends this masterclass is really fun, conversational, and dives into the fundamental questions you should think about if you want to start your own podcast.

We cover:

48. How to raise your professional profile for career success with PR expert and author, Bec Brown04 Nov 202000:46:57

Hey Guys! You’re listening to #GrowGetters – the future skills podcast for smart women in business. We exist for one simple reason: we are here to help you GROW! Each week, we drop a brand new ep that covers the latest trends, tools, tips to make sure your business or career is future-ready!

Today we are hosting an awesome Masterclass with one of Australia’s leading public relations experts, and a hugely successful female founder herself, Bec Brown!

Bec is the founder and managing director of The Comms Department - a PR, social media, corporate comms, and crisis management agency.

They specialise in entertainment, media, travel, and lifestyle brands and are located in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane, but work globally.

Bec launched The Comms Department in 2012, as she saw a need for an authentic and positive approach to PR and media relations in Australia. But what’s more, Bec set up her business nearly 9 years ago as a remote business that has never had a ‘traditional’ office. She wanted to give everyone on her team the flexibility to work from home (pre-COVID). Over the years they’ve fine-tuned their structures and procedures for maximum output and enjoyment. And their clients also love it because they pay for their expertise, not their central office overhead.

They have a star-studded list of long-term and repeat clients that include the Australian Radio Network, brands such as iHeartRadio and the iHeartPodcast Network, Bras N Things, Cover-More Travel Insurance, NBCUniversal’s hayu, Red Nose Day, Universal & Sony Music, The Wiggles, and many many more. Bec has been propped as the best in the business as she is dedicated to helping her clients manage their reputations and grow their revenue at their most crucial times.

Before starting The Comms Department, Bec spent half a decade as Senior Publicity & Promotions Manager for the world’s largest record company, Universal Music.

But Bec’s career started off a little differently. Bec’s passion for music led her to study a Bachelor of Music at the University of Adelaide. This gave her the foundation to work professionally for 6 years as a vocalist on stage and recording in Australia, Asia, and Europe. She had the pleasure of performing alongside some of the world’s best singers and musicians.

Not only is Bec a PR powerhouse, but she’s also a talented writer that just launched her book with publisher Penguin Books - called You Got This. Since the launch of her book in September, Bec has been featured on Mumbrella, Channel 7’s The Morning Show, The Briefing from the PodcastOne Network, and many more publications.

We absolutely loved learning from this amazing lady. So if you’re looking to raise your profile for your business or career to set yourself apart in your industry - then this masterclass is a must-listen!!

Plus…

47. Book Club: Rework by Jason Fried and David Heinemeier Hansson from Basecamp with Edison Agency founder, Amber Bonney29 Oct 202000:46:38

Hey Book Lovers! You’re listening to a #GrowGetters Book Club episode! Each month, we unpack, dissect, and discuss some of the hottest non-fiction releases that have the potential to positively impact your careers, and your lives!

Today, we are discussing REWORK by the incredibly inspirational founders of tech company, Basecamp, Jason Fried and David Heinemeier Hansson!

Basecamp is the stupidly simple, yet powerfully productive software that helps teams get organised, communicate, and get stuff done! Tiffany and I MASSIVE fangirls of Basecamp (yep, major nerd alert here!!) and we are absolute devotees of their seminal business book - REWORK - which we are so excited to feature on the #GrowGetters Book Club today!

REWORK was first published a decade ago, but it is so progressive, forward-thinking, and revolutionary, it feels extremely contemporary and extra poignant in today’s working climate.

REWORK is almost like the “anti-business book” because of its strong opinions on some of the traditional stalwarts of the modern workplace, and of business strategy in general.

It rejects the status quo, and uses the experience both authors have gleaned from creating Basecamp, to prove that things CAN be done differently, and you can STILL be successful.

But before we dive in, we have a very special guest joining us! Amber Bonney is the Founder and Managing Director of the award-winning business, The Edison Agency. She is a branding and identity strategist, guest lecturer, speaker, and current President of the Creative Women’s Circle - one of Australia’s largest communities of women working in the creative industries - AND a proud partner of the #GrowGetters podcast.

Amber is known for her brand prowess, developing outstanding creative solutions to her clients’ real commercial problems, and delivering human-centered, relevant, and differentiated experiences for their users.

With over 20 years’ experience across diverse industry sectors, Amber is passionate about marrying both traditional and disruptive design methods that activate, provoke, and inspire. In a nutshell, she is a brand-building powerhouse, helping organisations to connect, transform, excite, gain trust, disrupt, transform, and be seen!

And of course, as always, you’ll be hearing from, Tanya Garma, and Tiffany Hart - co-hosts of the #GrowGetters podcast.

So ladies, let’s get started - come and join the discussion about the brilliant book REWORK.

44. How to generate recurring revenue via a membership business model with Mums With Hustle founder, Tracy Harris07 Oct 202000:35:36

Hey Guys!

You’re listening to #GrowGetters – the future skills podcast for smart women in business. We exist for one simple reason: we are here to help you GROW! Each week, we drop a brand new ep that covers the latest trends, tools, tips to make sure your business or career is future-ready!

Today we are hosting a brilliant Masterclass - with Tracy Harris - Founder and CEO of Mums With Hustle!

Mums With Hustle is THE place for Mamas in business to learn how to confidently turn up on social media online and live their own unique version of success that, as Tracy says, “makes them light up from the inside.”

In 2015, Tracy began maternity leave after 10 years of working as an executive teacher. With teaching as Tracy’s core purpose, she knew she wanted to continue to pursue a career, but didn’t want to have to make the choice between work or motherhood.

Rather than step back onto the path of conventional work, Tracy simply wanted more.

With no startup slush fund. No investors. No business loan. No email list, or backup plan, or advocates. Tracy backed herself up and knew her ‘thing’. With her skills, her genuine passion for business, for teaching, and a love of tech - Tracy saw the need that so many working mothers face - the need to carve out a career on their own terms.

So Tracy built a profitable, scalable, enviable business that started while she was breastfeeding and typing with one hand. Now, she teaches other Mums in biz how to do the same.

Fast forward to today, and Mums with Hustle has attracted a global tribe of empowered, connected women. Over 50,000 beloved business mums getting noticed and building powerful online brands.

Mums with Hustle offers teaching, mentoring, industry experts, and business-building opportunities to Mums powering through to create empires of their dreams.

One of the key features of Mums with Hustle is its exceptional membership club: The Social Method Society. This is a premium Instagram Marketing Academy and monthly membership for female business owners.

In this #GrowGetters Masterclass, Tracy takes you through everything you need to know about building a membership business model, and achieving sustainable success.
