Let's Talk About Heaven, Part 2 | A Glimpse of Eternity02 Sep 202400:24:30

They say, in any major city these days, there are cameras watching you . . . as you walk, as you drive. Security cameras in front of a market, or built into a nearby ATM. Maybe a webcam on the top of a building or someone’s video door bell. What about our friends and loved ones in heaven? Are they watching what’s going on here on earth? Pastor Greg Laurie addresses that question and several others today on A NEW BEGINNING as he presents a glimpse of life inside our eternal home.

How Could a God of Love Send Someone to Hell? | Sunday Message01 Sep 202400:35:25

There are questions Christians should be prepared to respond to. One of them being, “How could a loving God send someone to hell?” Pastor Greg Laurie helps us answer.

Notes:

Focus verse: Revelation 20

Two questions to be answered in this message:
If God is so loving, why does He send people to Hell?
How can you say that Jesus is the only way to God?

Jesus, the author of grace, spoke about Hell more often, and in a vivid, blood-curdling manner than anyone else, so it must be a crucial truth.

We decide in this life where we will spend the afterlife.

There is a lot of misinformation about Hell.

Know this: Hell is not a party, and the devil does not rule over it.

Jesus spoke more about judgment and Hell than about any other topic.

Read: Revelation 20:11–15

John sees “a great white throne.”
The white throne is called “great” because of its awesome power and ultimate purpose.

There will be no debate over their guilt or innocence.
There will be a prosecutor, but no defender.
There will be an accuser, but no advocate.

What happens to the non-believer when they die right now?
They go to Hades.

Death is no respecter of persons.

“So it was that the beggar died and was carried by the angels to Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died and was buried.”
Luke 16:22

Prior to the death and resurrection of Jesus, the believer also went to Hades.

Now when believers die, they go to Heaven.
2 Corinthians 5:8

Jesus told the thief on the cross, “Today you will be with Me in Paradise.”

Only non-believers will stand at the great white throne judgment.

Anyone who has been exposed to the truth of God's law is held responsible.
Romans 3:19

“There are only two kinds of people in the end: those who say to God, “Thy will be done,” and those to whom God says, in the end, “Thy will be done.” All that are in Hell, choose it. Without that self-choice, there could be no Hell.” ―C.S. Lewis

God does not want people to go to Hell. Our eternal destination is determined by our choice, not His. God does not “send” anyone to Hell.

Hell was not even made for people, but for the devil and his angels.

God loves you and wants you to spend eternity with Him in Heaven.
If you reject God’s offer of forgiveness, you have charted your own course.

God sent and sacrificed His own Son so you could be forgiven and go to Heaven.

How does one get to Heaven?

“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6

How can Jesus be the only way to Heaven?

We would not even know of Heaven if He had not told us.
Our sins keep us separated from God.

Jesus, who was fully God and fully man, was uniquely qualified to bridge the gap. He was God’s sacrifice for our sin.

Jesus said He was the only way to God.

Jesus came to die for our sins. The work has already been done by Him who died on the cross for our sins.

Hell is therefore a prison in which the doors are first locked from the inside by us, and therefore are locked from the outside by God.

Jesus faced Hell for you on the cross 2,000 years ago.
Jesus was forsaken that we might be forgiven.
Jesus entered the darkness that we might walk in the light.

God Keeps His Promises | Learning From Noah22 May 202400:28:06

To borrow from Mark Twain, “Bad news can travel halfway around the world, while good news is still putting on its shoes.” When an influential believer falls into sin, it seems like we hear about it at the speed of light. But how do we reach out to someone who’s helped us, when they’re the ones who need help? Pastor Greg Laurie answers that question today on A NEW BEGINNING. We’re considering a story about Noah in the Book of Genesis. This godly man sinned. But we can learn from this biblical account.

Our Future Is in God’s Hands | Sunday Message19 May 202400:34:59

“...But you heard my cry for mercy and answered my call for help” (Psalm 31:22). How often has that been true for you, too? Psalm 31 puts the overwhelming goodness of God on display, reminding us of who He is in hardship we face. Get more insight into this psalm now with Pastor Greg Laurie.

Notes:

Today's Scripture: Psalm 31

God determines the length of your life.

God was preparing David to be a king, the greatest of Israel’s kings.

The most important thing about this king is, he would be in the Messianic line.

Acts 13:22

Overall, David did everything God wanted him to do, not flawlessly but faithfully.

“I will be glad and rejoice in Your mercy, for You have considered my trouble and You have known my soul in adversities.” Psalm 31:7

Sometimes the ones you help the most hurt you the worst.

Sometimes fellow believers will criticize you when God begins to bless you.

People are going to hurt you in life, and you will hurt people as well.

“God allows us to feel the frailty of human love so we’ll appreciate the strength of His.” —C.S. Lewis

Forgiveness doesn’t mean condoning bad behavior or dismissing it.

To forgive means, “surrendering the right to get even.”

When you face tragedy, when you face hardship, the church is there for you.

When people are hurting, they just need someone to be with them.

Harvest Groups

God is in control of our lives, and He determines how long we will live.
Psalm 31:14–15

God has a beautiful future for you.
Jeremiah 29:11

Get your eyes off your problems and put them on God!
Psalm 31:23–24

Put your hope in God.
Psalm 119:114; Romans 15:4

“If you look at the world, you’ll be distressed. If you look within, you’ll be depressed. If you look at God, you’ll be at rest.” —Corrie ten Boom

“Wait on the Lord. Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart. Wait, I say, on the Lord.” Psalm 27:14

As Christians, we are indestructible until God is done with us.

You decide in this life where you will spend the afterlife.

What Heaven Knows About Earth: The Knowledge of Our Passed Loved Ones17 Sep 202100:28:57

In the hereafter, is there something of a heavenly grandstand where our departed loved ones can watch the events of our lives? Or are heaven’s citizens sequestered and blissfully unaware of our struggles? It’s an interesting question, and today Pastor Greg Laurie finds insight in God’s Word. Glad you’re along for A New Beginning and our continuing series in Revelation. And later on, some details about a new book Pastor Greg has just released that takes these Revelation insights further.

This year we are excited to bring back our SoCal Harvest. Why do large-scale, evangelistic crusades still matter after all these years? It’s pretty simple: in a time of division, disharmony, social unrest, and fractional politics, we, now more than ever, need to be together—physically, mentally, emotionally, and yes, spiritually. We need the presence of God in our lives, the only one with a plan, a road map for all of us, RSVP today: harvest.org/socal

God's Solution to Man's Problem | Controlling Your Thoughts17 May 202400:31:19

And today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie helps us keep our ideas in check. We’re launching a new series from “the book of beginnings,” the book of Genesis. We’ll see dangerous ideas can be traced all the way back to the Garden of Eden.

The 1st Jesus Movement | Sunday Message05 Sep 202100:45:42

How should Christians live in the midst of social upheaval? In a timely message, Pastor Greg Laurie offers encouragement—as well as a blueprint—for countercultural living from the book of Acts. Listen in for the launch of a new series, The Upside Down Life!

Notes

We are living in a time where right is wrong and wrong is right.

Pray for divine intervention.

The word revolution not only means “upheaval” and “change;” it also means “turning around” or “rotating.”

The death of Jesus was God’s predetermined plan (Acts 2:23–24).

“Organized Christianity which fails to make a disturbance is dead.” —G. Campbell Morgan

The book of Acts is simply a picture of normal Christianity.

The book of Acts is a record of the acts of the Holy Spirit, covering a 30-year period from AD 33–63.

The book of Acts was authored by the Holy Spirit, speaking through Dr. Luke.

The name Theophilus means, “Lover of God.”

1. Before you can change the world, you must first be changed.

The disciple’s greatness was not because of who they were as individuals; it was because God put His hand on them.

Jesus did not call these men who became apostles because they were great; they were great because Jesus called them!

The word used for appeared refers to the eyeball.

Before they could change the world, Jesus needed to change them.

Paul said, “Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ” (1 Corinthians 11:1).

2. The church had a job to do, and so do we!

“You will be My witnesses, telling people about Me everywhere!” (Acts 1:8).

Jesus is not late in returning; there is something He wants from us.

3. We need to be filled with the Holy Spirit to do what God calls us to do.

The word power comes from the Greek word “Dunamis.”

It’s never too late to be used by God.

Scripture Referenced

  • Isaiah 5:20
  • Acts 17:6
  • 1 Corinthians 1:26–31
  • 1 John 1:1
  • 2 Peter 3:9

Trouble in Paradise | Victory Through Christ16 May 202400:27:11

How does the Devil cause so much mayhem among believers? He has help! He and his minions set their sights on believers trying to make them fall . . . and they’re quite good at what they do. But today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie points out victory is assured for God’s children when we stand in the victory of Jesus. We’re in the Garden of Eden today watching Adam and Eve struggle against the temptation of our adversary, and we’ll see how that struggle affects us even today.

Trouble in Paradise | How to Fight Temptation15 May 202400:27:35

In the Lord’s Prayer, we read “Lead us not into temptation.” Yeah, we certainly don’t want to go down that path. But haven’t you found that sometimes temptation comes up the path and finds us! Temptation is pervasive. It’s ubiquitous. Today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie helps us dissect temptation. We’ll trace its roots all the way back to the Garden of Eden. And Pastor Greg offers some biblical insights on how to stop Satan’s attacks right in their tracks.

In this powerful snippet, Pastor Greg Laurie describes the power that Christians have when they stand for what’s right and make commitments to the Lord. Sharing from the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego in the fiery furnace, Pastor Greg describes what happens when God’s people act out in faith and explains that tough circumstances are the best ways to grow our faith.

Trouble in Paradise | The Creation of Marriage14 May 202400:27:25

Many products have labels noting where they were made. Maybe Made in China, Japan, Mexico, or Made in the U.S.A. Metaphorically, if we were to look at our label—the label of man himself—it would say “Made in the Garden of Eden . . . by God.” You and I were handcrafted by our Heavenly Father. The Nonbeliever’s Favorite Verse: Discerning but Not Condemning11 Aug 202100:27:45

The Lord tells us He’s not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. Yes, God judges sinners but that’s not His desire. What’s our desire? When someone is in sin, do we reflect the Lord’s objective, that we should lovingly lead them back into fellowship with God?

Today on A New Beginning, Pastor Greg Laurie takes us to important counsel from the Sermon on the Mount – the Lord’s directives to His disciples on matters of faith, love and harmony.

The Writing Is on the Wall | Special Sunday Message08 Aug 202100:35:14

In this special message, Pastor Greg Laurie speaks from Daniel 5 and delivers a unique gospel presentation. Using the life of a king known as Belshazzar, Pastor Greg explains why we’re all in desperate need of a Savior: Jesus Christ.

Notes

One day we will give our last words and we will pass into eternity.

No one is beyond the reach of God.

You can’t live off the faith of your parents, grandparents, or friends.

“Young adults who binge drink frequently are more likely to show disadvantageous decision-making patterns than their peers who don’t drink, a new study shows.”

“At that very moment they saw the fingers of a human hand writing on the plaster wall of the king’s palace, near the lampstand.” —Daniel 5:5

“I hope everybody could get rich and famous and will have everything they ever dreamed of, so they will know that it’s not the answer.” —Jim Carrey

Belshazzar did not cry out to God; he called in the astrologers who could not help him.

The word gospel means, “Good News!”

1. Mene means, “numbered.”

“Seventy years are given to us! Some may even reach eighty.” —Psalm 90:10

Technology cannot grant eternal life.

2. One day we will all be weighed on God’s divine scales.

What kind of weight does your life have right now?

There is a last night for every nation and every person.

Are you a lonely soul?

This may be the last time you have to make this commitment to follow Christ.

Jesus can forgive you of all of your sin.

  1. Realize you are a sinner who needs a Savior.
  2. Recognize Jesus died on the cross for you.
  3. Repent of your sin.
  4. Receive Christ into your life.

  • Regrets, memories, and wishes
  • Pastor Chuck’s favorites
  • A performance of “The Love of God”

This interview originally took place in 2012 and aired on radio that same year. Pastor Chuck Smith went to be with the Lord on October 3, 2013.

In this special interview, Jim Wallace takes on a bold question: “If we didn’t have the New Testament account of Jesus, could we still prove His deity?” Listen in for an enlightening conversation.

God's Purpose for Us | Wonder or Wander? It's Your Choice.13 May 202400:27:03

If you don’t know where you’re going, how do you know when you get there? It seems some people are in permanent wander mode. They’re drifting. But those who live for the Lord continually encounter the wonder of God. Wonder . . . or wander? The choice is up to us. And today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie helps connect us with the plan and purpose of God. We’re in the opening message of a study series in the book of Genesis. We’re considering God’s plan from the very beginning.

Don’t Be Afraid! | Sunday Message12 May 202400:39:12

Psalm 27 offers us comforting words, “The Lord is my light and my salvation—so why should I be afraid?” In today’s message, Pastor Greg Laurie helps us study this Psalm, revealing the power it holds. Find the biblical wisdom you need.

Notes:

People’s number one fear is glossophobia.

We need to face our fears.

Deal with your giants, because either you conquer them, or they will conquer you.

“The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?
The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”
Psalm 27:1

Faith overcomes fear.

When faith walks in, worry walks out; but when worry steps in, faith walks out.

The Christian life is not a cakewalk; it’s a conflict—it’s not a playground; it’s a battleground.

There will always be something to potentially worry about.

When you are afraid in the dark, turn on the light.
Psalm 27:1

Anxious notions come sweeping into our mind, uninvited and unwelcome.
But the presence of our heavenly Father can dispel all fear, worry, and anxiety.

Face your fears in God’s strength, not your own.
Psalm 27:1

God is bigger than your enemies.
Psalm 27:2–3

God promises to keep us safe in His protection.
Psalm 27:5

God will never allow anything to touch us that He does not allow, and He certainly will never let anything happen that would separate us from His love for us.

God either did it or allowed it for His glory and our ultimate good.
Romans 8:38

David knew that the main thing was to keep the main thing the main thing!
Psalm 27:4–5

A danger in life is to permit the urgent things to crowd out the important things.

If we don’t focus on that one thing, we will end up doing everything, and accomplish nothing.
Read: Psalm 27:8–10

You have a Father in Heaven who loves you and always has time for you.

God promises to be a Father to the fatherless.

Your heavenly Father will never abandon you.
Psalm 27:9

Take courage and continue to follow the Lord.
Psalm 27:13–14

God's Purpose for Us | Understanding God's Plan for Mankind10 May 202400:26:24

God’s plan for creation and His plan for mankind, included His plan for man’s redemption. Even before the heavens and the earth were created, He knew man’s freewill would lead him astray. . . and He had a solution before we even tasted of the forbidden fruit. Today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie digs into God’s plan as revealed in Genesis. To understand something best, we need to take it from the top—chapter 1, verse 1 of book #1 in God’s Word.

The Refreshing Power of the Word of God | Guidance From God's Word09 May 202400:28:31

According to one survey, only 5% of people read owners’ manuals. Maybe that’s why one lady called Kitchen Aid to ask which was the best spin cycle in her clothes washer for drying her lettuce. And then wanted to know why her clothes were turning green. Well, we have an owner’s manual for life: the Bible. But so many leave it on the shelf. Today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie helps us recognize the Bible for what it is: a book that gives the prescription for life.

we can start to feel weak spiritually . . . but so many times our spiritual food ISN’T at the top of our minds. The Refreshing Power of Sharing Your Faith, Part 2 | Remembering What God's Done for You07 May 202400:29:53

When people hear what Jesus has done for us, they’ll see what Jesus can do for them. That’s the essence of sharing the gospel. But what HAS Jesus done for us? If we’ve lost sight of how our life has changed, it may be time to for some soul searching before we go out soul winning. Today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie helps us reignite the passion in our hearts, and ignite our afterburners in our efforts to share Christ with those who need to meet Him. Today’s study is from the series called Refresh.

The Refreshing Power of the Word of God | Sunday Message05 May 202400:41:55

In today’s message, Pastor Greg Laurie shares that spiritual success or failure depends on how much of God’s Word you get into your life on a regular basis, and how obedient you are to it. Get insight now from Psalm 19.

Notes

Don’t build your life on fickle emotions; build your life on Christ and God’s Word.

As we read, study, memorize, and obey Scripture, it refreshes us.

The word convert means, “to revive, restore, and transform.”

Success or failure in the Christian life depends on how much of God’s Word you get into your life on a regular basis, and how obedient you are to it.

A growing believer will delight in and love the Word of God.

Hungry Christians are healthy Christians.

The Word of God is perfect.

“His mercies are new every morning.” —Lamentations 3:23

How do you know the Bible is the Word of God?

All the authors of the Bible write about one theme: God’s redemption of mankind.

The Bible is true because it gives the experience it claims it will give you.

The Bible is true because it is confirmed by science.

It was the Bible that first said that the number of stars were innumerable.

The objective of the Bible is not to tell us how the heavens go, but how to go to Heaven and how to know God.

The Bible is true because it is the one book that dares to predict the future.

The Word of God transforms us.

It’s not enough to read and study God’s Word; we must do it!

The Bible is God’s Word to us, and it should be treasured.

The Word of God gives us incredible wisdom.

The word simple comes from a root word that speaks of an open door.

What if you don’t agree with what the Bible says?

Answer: Change your opinion because you are wrong, and the Bible is right.

The Word of God is right.

Keeping the Word of God makes you happy.

“Happy are those that hear the Word of God and keep it.” —Luke 11:28

You can have a happy life without sin.

The Bible tells us how to get to Heaven.

The Refreshing Power of Sharing Your Faith, Part 2 | Following Our Calling03 May 202400:27:22

When you think back on your spiritual journey and how it was that you came to Christ, most likely there was at least one human being involved in the process. Aren’t you thankful for that person? Well, we each have the opportunity to be “that person” for someone else. It’s God’s plan for disseminating the Good News. And today on A NEW BEGINNING, as part of his series called Refresh, Pastor Greg Laurie points out how refreshing it is when we follow through with our evangelism privilege and responsibility.

The Refreshing Power of Sharing Your Faith, Part 1 | Jonah’s Success in Nineveh02 May 202400:27:05

Some seem to believe the realm of evangelism is for “men of the cloth” . . . for pastors, ministers, evangelists. Today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie says it’s a privilege and responsibility shared by all believers. In recent days, he’s been pointing out the tremendous lessons we can learn from Jonah’s success in Nineveh. It was the most successful evangelistic gathering in history. And there are six practical lessons we can learn from that account. Let’s take some notes.

Which Side Are You On? | A Warning Against Idolatry21 Aug 202400:28:05

We throw the word idol around pretty freely in our culture. “So-and-so is a teen idol” . . . “did you watch American Idol?” . . . “Humphrey Bogart was a matinee idol.” But biblically speaking, an idol is a representation or symbol of an object of worship. It’s a clear transgression of the First Commandment. Today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie warns about idol worship based on an epic confrontation in First Kings 18. Elijah goes toe to toe with the prophets of Baal.

The Road Less Traveled | Sunday Message21 Apr 202400:43:16

Pastor Greg Laurie begins our new "Psalms of David" series with a message focused on the choices we have in life, including the choice to follow God.

Notes:

Matt. 7:24-29/ Ps.1

Choices matter, because we make our choices, and our choices make us!

We are not the only ones who make choices; God makes choices, too!

There are over 59 references to David in the New Testament, yet he was far from perfect.

He wasn’t only a shepherd, warrior, and king, but also, an adulterer, murderer, and abysmal failure.

In battle, David was fearless. In wisdom, in ruling, he was without peer.

“My heart is fixed, my heart is fixed, O Lord.”
Psalm 57:7

The book of Psalms gives real insight into David’s heart; it shows his courage, his weakness, his fears, and prayers.

Psalms is a collection of 150 Hebrew poems, songs, and prayers of Israel’s history.

The first Psalm gives a contrast, as we see the difference between right and wrong choices.

“Two roads diverged in a wood, and I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.” ¾Robert Frost

Read: Matthew 7:24–29

We make our choices, and then our choices make us.

The final test of what our foundation is will come in times of testing and hardship in life.

Read: Psalm 1:1–6

The happy person walks the right way.
Psalm 1:1

Walking is used often to picture the Christian life.
Colossians 2:6

The happy person walks not in the counsel of the ungodly.
Psalm 1:1

Ungodly does not necessarily mean immoral or outwardly wicked.
It just means, “Without God.”

You can be ungodly and still be moral and relatively nice.

We, as Christians, can vote them out and vote others in.
Proverbs 29:2

“Happy is the nation whose God is the Lord.”
Psalm 33:12

The happy person thinks the right way.
Psalm 1:2

“Man must have some delight, some supreme pleasure.
His heart was never meant to be a vacuum. If not filled with the best things,
it will be filled with the unworthy and disappointing.” —C.H. Spurgeon

In Eastern meditation, the goal is to empty the mind.
In biblical meditation, the goal is to fill the mind.

You must read, study, memorize, and meditate on God’s Word.

There is an art to listening. If in conversation you look at a person, respond!

God told Habakkuk to write down the vision He gave to him.
Habakkuk 2

The happy person is rooted the right way.
Psalm 1:3

A godly person, a happy person, stays in the Word of God every day.

As we abide in Christ, we bring forth spiritual fruit.
Matthew 7:17

Our change in conduct and character is described as spiritual fruit.
Galatians 5:22

“By their fruit shall you know them.”

Which Side Are You On? | Waiting on God20 Aug 202400:30:15
