| #124: The ‘I’ of the Storm: Ego, Chaos, and the Path to Calling | 11 Jul 2025 | 00:34:40 | |
🎙️ He Was Called Trash and a Loser, Now He Fights with God-Given Confidence and Purpose
This is one of the most meaningful conversations I’ve ever had on GRASP Confidence, because today’s guest isn’t just a storyteller with an incredible testimony—he is a very dear friend of mine. David Mulldune’s journey is raw, unfiltered, and heartbreakingly real. He grew up in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, labeled “poor white trash,” the oldest of three children living in poverty so extreme his mother had to place them in orphanages just to give them a chance at an education.
David’s early life was marked by pain and chaos:
He was kicked out of high school, lived on the streets, cycled through juvenile hall, and was called “loser” more times than he could count. Society had written him off completely. But God didn’t. When David was just a boy, someone took him to a Billy Graham Crusade. There, he asked Jesus to save him and even though he didn’t fully understand it then, that moment planted a seed that would grow through every dark chapter that followed. He went on to serve in the Marines during Vietnam, enduring unimaginable loss and trauma, watching friends die in combat, and questioning everything he thought he knew about survival, leadership, and morality. David’s story is not just one of survival, it’s one of radical redemption. Even now, as he faces what many would call the ultimate test—an incurable cancer diagnosis—David is living out his purpose with unwavering faith and unbreakable confidence. He’s not just telling people about Christ’s power to transform a life—he’s showing them. He is the embodiment of the truth that your past does not define you. This episode is a testament to what real, gritty, humble confidence looks like. It’s not about titles, accolades, or polished leadership. It’s about the courage to surrender, the strength to obey, and the grace to serve even in life’s hardest battles.
In this powerful conversation, you’ll hear:
David is not just a guest on this show, he is someone I admire deeply, and someone I’m honored to call a friend. His story is one of the most moving and convicting I’ve ever heard, and I truly believe everyone needs to hear it. If you’re a high performer, a leader, or someone striving to live with purpose, this episode will challenge you to look at your own life through the lens of God’s calling.

| #116: The Transformative Power of Gratitude: From Pain to Purpose with Valeriya Hjertenaes | 12 Jun 2025 | 00:55:58 | |
The Transformative Power of Gratitude: From Pain to Purpose with Valeriya Hjertenaes What if the very thing that broke you became the catalyst that built you? In this powerful and deeply personal episode of GRASP Confidence, I sit down with Valeriya Hjertenaes, a courageous scholar and rising thought leader whose journey proves that gratitude can be the bridge between pain and purpose. Born and raised in Ukraine, Valeriya grew up in a home shadowed by her father’s alcoholism and the heavy weight of unworthiness. Despite being intellectually gifted and outwardly beautiful, she silently battled depression and struggled with self-confidence for much of her life. But everything changed when she made a life-altering decision: to no longer be defined by her past, but by the woman she knew she was always meant to become. Now pursuing her PhD at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Valeriya holds Master’s degrees in Finance, Knowledge Management, and Innovation Management. Her doctoral research explores the role of diversity management in advancing industrial sustainability—focusing on gender, cultural, and neurodiversity. She is also a passionate mental health advocate, proudly neurodivergent, and on a mission to create spaces of inclusion and understanding. In our conversation, we explore the transformative power of gratitude—how it can rewire identity, elevate confidence, and serve as a spiritual and emotional compass when the world feels uncertain. Valeriya vulnerably shares how gratitude and responsibility became the anchors that allowed her to heal and rise—and how she is now walking boldly toward her next dream: becoming a TEDx speaker. I’ve had the honor of coaching and mentoring Valeriya through this next chapter, and what’s unfolding is nothing short of inspiring. If you’ve ever felt stuck in your story or unsure of your worth, this episode is your invitation to reclaim your power through the lens of gratitude. Because healing doesn’t begin with what happened to us—it begins with what we choose to do next.
💫 Let this be the reminder: Gratitude doesn’t just change your mindset, it transforms your entire life.
