Monastery and High Cross is drawn from her 2022 dissertation. A teacher of, she is the chair of the Saints and Scholars Foundation, which supports a new model of faithful Catholic education for modern secular Ireland, www.saintsandscholars.us. The Four Levels of Happiness with Fr. Spitzer, SJ17 Jun 202400:35:37

Based on his study of great theologians and philosophers dating back to Aristotle, eminent philosopher and physicist Rev. Dr. Robert Spitzer devised his Four Levels of Happiness, asserting that whichever level dominates our lives will dictate our actions and determine the depth and endurance of our happiness.

On episode #172, I spoke with Fr. Spitzer about this concept. Here are some key questions and topics from our discussion:

Conceptual Origins: What inspired the development of the Four Levels of Happiness? How were the specific levels and their characteristics determined?

Universal Relevance: In your research and experiences, do these levels of happiness resonate universally across different cultures and societies? How do you address variations in cultural definitions of happiness?

Scientific Intersection: How are scientific principles and discoveries integrated with philosophical and theological concepts in this framework of happiness?

And much more...

Join us for an enlightening discussion!

Biography:

Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, Fr. Spitzer is a Catholic priest in the Jesuit order and is currently the President of the Magis Center of Reason and Faith. The Magis Center produces documentaries, books, high school programs, college courses, adult education programs, and social media materials on the close connection between science, reason, and faith. Fr. Spitzer is also the President, Master of Ceremonies, and speaker at the Napa Institute.

On episode sixty-three of the Gotta Be Saints Podcast, I spoke with Becca Radzinski Anderson about finding God in Art.

Biography:
Rebecca Radzinski Anderson is an artist and currently residing in Philadelphia. She received her undergraduate degree in Communication Arts and Theology from Franciscan University and her Masters in Art Education from the University of Florida. She began creating her own art more and more during her time teaching and believes that many of the different practices, experiences, and explorations have formed her into the artist she is and will continue to be.

Artist Statement:
My personal definition of art is creative transcendence- that beautiful things point to even more beautiful things, and that, each student, composition, and idea holds the ability to communicate The Beautiful. My artistic exploits have a hybrid focus on contemporary art and iconography. I am caught up in the duality of simplistic objects and expressive figures paired with representational color, translating ancient practices of visual, religious, and socially adaptive storytelling.

Catholic Social Teaching Explained with Dale Ahlquist10 Jun 202400:22:07

One of the most misunderstood — and misrepresented — elements of the Catholic Church is her social teaching. Today’s conversation hopes to fix that.

On episode #171, I spoke with Dale Ahlquist about Catholic Social Teaching. Here are some key questions and topics from our discussion:

What is the history of Catholic Social Teaching?

What does it look like today?

How does localism play into this?

And much more...

Tune in for an insightful conversation!

Biography:

Dale Ahlquist is President of the Society of Gilbert Keith Chesterton, creator and host of the EWTN series “G.K. Chesterton: The Apostle of Common Sense,” and Publisher of Gilbert Magazine. He is the author of six books, and has edited fourteen. He is a Senior Fellow of the Chesterton Library at London, and has been called “probably the greatest living authority on the life and work of G.K. Chesterton.”

Dale has given more than 900 lectures at universities, conferences, and other institutions, including Yale, Columbia, Cornell, Notre Dame, Oxford, the Vatican Forum in Rome, and the House of Lords in London.

He is also the co-founder of Chesterton Academy, a top-rated Catholic classical high school in Hopkins, Minnesota, which is the flagship of the growing Chesterton Schools Network, which includes nearly 60 high schools in the U.S., Canada, Italy, Iraq, and Sierra Leone.

Why is it Hard to Share the Faith? Part Two30 May 202100:30:24

On episode fifty-eight of the Gotta Be Saints Podcast, I spoke with Meredith Clemmens about sharing the faith.

Biography:
Growing up in South Carolina as the youngest-of-four, Meredith was raised deeply in the catholic faith while also gaining much from the southern traditions of sincere hospitality, knowledge of scripture, and college football (#gotigers). She's frequently convicted by the Holy Spirit's invitation to share Christ's goodness through some combination of her halfway southern/smiley and obnoxiously professional accents. Now working as a systems engineer in the DMV (DC/MD/VA) area, Meredith loves the nebulous world of consulting and the opportunities it provides to strengthen unity between business and IT folks. With the Spirit's guidance, Meredith often finds herself chatting with colleagues at the office or strangers at a party on the theology of suffering, the necessity of virtue, and the beauty of Argentine Spanish. She loves climbing trees, has a heart for prison ministry, and gets super annoyed by the Devil's absurd mission to steal away the infinite peace and joy offered to each of us by the Creator of the Universe who loves us so much.

Restoring the Lord’s Day with Daniel Fitzpatrick04 Jun 202400:35:02

For most of us, Sunday is the day we attend Mass, setting it aside as our Sabbath. However, once we step out of the church, we often find ourselves caught up in the same rush as any other day. Whether it's catching up on work, running errands, or tackling household chores, we rarely allow ourselves a true day of rest. Travel, shopping, and the endless to-do list can lead us to forget the essential purpose of the Sabbath. The commandment to keep the Sabbath day holy is not just about worship in the morning, but about dedicating the entire day to Him.

On episode #170, I spoke with Daniel Fitzpatrick about the significance of restoring the Lord's day. Here are some key questions and topics from our discussion:

Cultural Observations: What inspired Daniel to explore the relationship between the Sabbath and societal trends, particularly those he observed in New Orleans?

Historical and Literary Influence: How did the works of authors like Homer, Dante, and Evelyn Waugh shape his understanding of the Sabbath and influence the structure of his book?

Modern Challenges: In his book, Daniel discusses how modern society mirrors the Pharaohs' obsession with work and anxiety. What does he believe are the root causes of this shift?

And much more...

Tune in for an insightful conversation!

Biography:

Daniel Fitzpatrick lives in New Orleans with his wife and four children. He is the author of the novels Only the Lover Sings and First Make Mad. His verse translation of the Divine Comedy, illustrated by Timothy Schmalz, was published in 2021 in honor of the seven hundredth anniversary of Dante’s death. He is the editor of Joie de Vivre, a journal of art, culture, and letters for South Louisiana, and he teaches English at Jesuit High School of New Orleans.

Rachel recently had a deep conversion back to the Catholic faith of her childhood after years spent away from the Church, through a series of profound encounters with the living God. Answering the Call: Mark 10:4511 Apr 202100:49:30

On episode fifty-one of the Gotta Be Saints Podcast, I spoke with Connor Xavios, about servant leadership.

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45

Biography:

Connor was born and raised in the outskirts of Philadelphia, in a small city which is home to Monopoly’s most prolific railroad. Drawn to the opportunity to pursue a collegiate golf career, he packed his bags, golf clubs, and headed south to attend George Mason University in Virginia. He soon realized that his clubs actually could have stayed back in PA after not making the team. To this day, he maintains that this was the greatest blessing in disguise as this was a catalyst to discover his faith. While at Mason, he served as a student leader facilitating bible studies and headed their Knights of Columbus council as Grand Knight. Since graduating in 2015, Connor has worked across the private and public sectors to defend our homeland from domestic and foreign threats and most recently accepted a position with the Department of Homeland Security.  Outside of work, you can find him golfing, hip-hopping, playing piano, enjoying the company of  friends, and scouring WebMd for new potential diagnoses.

The Divine Mercy Chaplet07 Mar 202100:17:01

On episode forty-six of the Gotta Be Saints Podcast, I spoke about the Divine Mercy Chaplet and why you should start praying it (if you are not already).

Episode breakdown:

:15 Syndicate Strategies & The Catholic Company
1:30 Introducing the Divine Mercy Chaplet
2:30 The Lenten Journey
3:30 Why should we pray the chaplet?
5:15 Jesus wants to pour out His mercy on us
6:30 The Recitation of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy

Quotes shared during the episode:

“Say unceasingly the Chaplet that I have taught you. Whoever will recite it, they will receive great mercy at the hour of death. Priests will recommend it to sinners as their last hope of salvation. Even if there were a sinner most hardened, if he were to recite this chaplet only once, he would receive grace from My infinite mercy.” (Diary, 687)

“It pleases me to grant everything souls ask of me by saying the chaplet. When hardened sinners say it, I will fill their souls with peace, and the hour of their death will be a happy one. Write this for the benefit of distressed souls; when a soul sees and realizes the gravity of its sins, when the whole abyss of the misery into which it immersed itself is displayed before its eyes, let it not despair, but with trust, let it throw itself into the arms of My mercy, as a child into the arms of its beloved mother. Tell them no soul that has called upon My mercy has been disappointed or brought to shame. I delight particularly in a soul that has placed its trust in My goodness. Write that when they say this Chaplet in the presence of the dying, I will stand between My father and the dying person, not as the Just Judge but as the Merciful Saviour.” (Diary, 1541)

Just Say Yes - Part Two14 Feb 202100:32:59

On episode forty-three of the Gotta Be Saints Podcast, I spoke with Taylor Fielder of Candid Communion about saying yes to God and his plan.

Biography:
I’m Taylor, author behind Candid Communion. My mission is to support other young Catholic women, like me, and inspire and encourage them as we try and live out our faith in today’s culture! I grew up in a Catholic family with no sisters, and I never felt like I had a group of friends who shared the same faith and interests as me. Candid Communion is a place where we can enjoy all the fun that life brings, while staying centered in our faith!

Growing up I loved sports and doing anything active! My dad was a high school football coach (which, here in Texas is a religion of its own) so my Friday nights were usually spent on a sideline cheering him on. From a young age, my parents made sure we were centered in faith. I was that one Catholic girl among my Protestant friends who was always getting picked up early from the slumber party to make sure we made it to Mass.

I graduated from Texas Tech in 2015 where I studied Education and Sports Marketing. I was a member of Pi Beta Phi and a recruiting assistant for the football team before accepting a full time position after graduation in Football Recruiting and Operations. College is where I really took ownership of my faith. My family wasn’t there to make sure I got to Mass, and I quickly realized that this world will swallow you up if you don’t have anything firm to stand on. I got comfortable (maybe a little too comfortable) going to Mass alone and finding random times to visit Adoration. After a few years of this, I was convinced that I wouldn’t find friends at church who enjoyed the same hobbies and social scenes as I did.

Now, I spend my days running Athletic Operations for a school district here in the Dallas Fort Worth Area. You can still find me on the sidelines on Friday nights, but the rest of my time is spent socializing with friends, concerts, travelling and trying to follow wherever it is that God is calling me.

We open Instagram and are often told what to buy, how to dress, what to eat, what our bodies should look like, what we should believe, what “love” is supposed look like… It’s easy to scroll and sometimes forget that our identity is in Christ and Him alone. Candid Communion was created to affirm you, encourage you, and show you that there are others like you. I am not a biblical scholar and I don’t do everything perfectly, but I love our faith and want you and others to know that we can follow Christ today just as we are! He is waiting for us!
