| Episode 260: 260: Missing in Action 2: The Beginning (1985) | 20 Sep 2024 | 01:20:14 | |
On this dig back into past Patreon episodes, Doug takes a break from the podcast to karate-kick his dog (joking), Jamie thinks that being submerged in mud in the humid Vietnamese jungle may actually be refreshing, and we both agree that this is a movie that caused us to swear off Chuck Norris films on this podcast. Cover yourself in worms, take a big bite of rat, and join us as we are absolutely baffled by the appeal of Mr. Norris while discussing, Missing in Action 2: The Beginning!

| Episode 160: Episode 160: Spellbinder (1988) w/Laura Cannon of Fatal Femmes | 09 Jul 2021 | 01:52:35 | |
Laura Cannon, one half of Fatal Femmes mixes things up by exposing Doug and Jamie to a film neither had seen before. Is this movie sexy enough for Doug? Is it scary enough for Jamie? We learn about 'famous' LA artists of the late 80s, wonder why you would unwind with some basketball when you've got pretty severe back issues, and think that everyone should always listen to their receptionist/secretary when considering a new relationship. | Episode 159: Road House (1989) w/Tony from Hack the Movies | 25 Jun 2021 | 01:46:15
Tony from Hack the Movies drops by to preach the gospel of Road House! Doug and Jamie may not be completely convinced though. For Doug, it has to do with the lack of sex in the film and for Jamie, well...maybe it just reminds her too much of her years as a bouncer in Tennessee. We discuss Cobra Commander, hungover doctors & a disappointed pervert who gets nothing but calls about a Buick! Strap on your headgreat and/or neck brace, toss that pizza on the turntable, pop a muscel relaxer or two, and join us for our discussion of the John Hughes film to feature the most cartoon sound effects, Sixteen Candles! In the latest episode, Jamie tries to do a French accent worse than Phoebe Cates and totally fails. Doug is amazed at one point that Angela Lansbury's still telling this story and we both are exhausted after jet setting around the globe and through time watching a porn star potentially sllep with her step brother and father. Doug also begins listing his likes and dislikes for his upcomming Playboy/Girl spread and Jamie thinks John Lovitz did Subway commercials. And after recording the episode, she submitted the proof. We finally tackle one of the worst movies ever made as we take a supporter-request and talk about the Hoffman/Beatty vehicle, Ishatar. In this episode, neither host has any idea what's happening in the move but also admit to not knowing anything about late 80s international conflicts between nations. Doug's surprised that even Charles Grodin couldn't even save this film, Jamie draws parallels to Yentl and the two compare the music perfarmances to a magical night with Jeff Goldblum. | Episode 146: Santa Claus: The Movie (1985) | 25 Dec 2020 | 01:31:05
Merry Christmas eveyone! In this episode, Jamie wants to get to the bottom of why exactly Mr. and Mrs. Claus can't conceve, Doug comes off as an idiot by not knowing that Santa is basically the same as Saint and also comes off as kind of a weird monster when he basically condones the kidnapping of homeless children. Come along as we try so hard to navigate our way through a movie that tells the history of Santa, while also focussing on a disgruntled elf, a homeless boy, a neglected rich girl, a reindeer who is afraid of heights, a greedy toymaker, the Senate sub committee...Holy hell, there's a lot going on here! We're fully into the holiday season and chase Slysgiving with the Brarbara Streisand passion project Yentl to celebrate Hanukkah. On this episode, we discover Doug's refusal to swim in a 'piss pond', get some information about Jamie's old audition process, and try in all honesty to figure out what everyone who meets Yentl/Ansel thinks is actually going on there. We head back into the final frontier as we put a bow on our Summer of Sequels! In this episode Jamie and Doug talk extensively about Kirstie Alley's real eyebrows (just let them put the fake ones on), Jamie takes some time to explain the difference between a War and a Trek and Doug manages to tie a Star Trek movie to an episode of Full House. There's talk of the ship's masturbation chamber, terrible, terrible matte paintings, how they might get from here to whales & so much more nonsense. Sorry Trek fans, you're in for a rough ride. | Episode 138: Staying Alive (1983) | 04 Sep 2020 | 01:18:47
Jamie and John Travolta hope that all is well in 'Britland', maybe because of Brexit. Doug isn't sure exactly but he is very excited about sitting thought an entire broadway show at this end of this episode. But maily it's because he's curious about a show titled, Satan's Alley. But anyway, on this episode we discuss a movie where Penny from Dirty Dancing and Blossom's stepmom fight over a lean, mean, sweaty, mean, adorable, and mean, John Travolta. He hasn't learned his lesson from Saturday Night Feaver so we get the same movie again, but bad. Join us as we discuss Staying Alive!
| Episode 137: Teen Wolf Too (1987) | 21 Aug 2020 | 01:25:15 | |
Doug remembers the long-forgotten fear of the Zombie episode of The Hogan Family and Jamie's caught up in those Dreamy Bateman eyes. But none of that can keep us from realizing that this is just a terrible movie. Why is this a sports movie? Why is Styles recast? Why is Styles even there? Why didn't they decide on an accent for the 'hot girl'? And again, why so much sports in a werewolf movie? Join us as we continue through the Summer of Sequels with Teen Wolf Too!
| Episode 136: Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (1981) | 07 Aug 2020 | 01:16:20 | |
The X-Games are super dumb but we have an idea to make them at least a bit better. We appreciate the progressive sexuality of this Mad Max film and how much it leans into the S&M scene. We discuss futuristic dog fashion, are confused by basic engineering of how you extract oil from the ground and spot an Amish Road Warrior. Also, Jamie looked in vain for Tina Turner for an hour and a half. We somehow talk more about Mel Gibson's questionable movie roles of the late 90's - early 2000's than the fact that he is just a trash pile of a human being. | Episode 135: Short Circuit 2 (1988) | 24 Jul 2020 | 01:19:27
A sequel that removes Guttenberg and Ally Sheedy (basically all the charm) so Doug and Jamie are stuck with Fischer Stevens and a robot devoid of humor and personality. Cynthia Gibb is given nothing to do but Doug and Jamie would watch a different film starring she and the cab driver, with whom she has the most chemistry. Fisher Stevens in brown face may strangely be one of the least offensive things about this movie. Just kidding, that's terrible even by 1988 standards. Doug is mad! He's so mad at this movie that he even recommends a movie he doesn't like at the end of the episode. Jamie absolutely loves the Shit Sisters and tries clinging to that to help her get through this film. A confusing mix of gross and bland deaths, terrible acting, writing, directing and editing come together to create a shameful sequel to one of the best films we've covered on the podcast. | Episode 124: Disorderlies (1987) | 21 Feb 2020 | 01:09:35
Doug hates this movie so much that he tries talking about Nurse Betty instead. Nobody's talked about Nurse Betty since it was released in 2000, and even than nobody wanted to talk about it. Jamie's excited about Edie Murphy's career resurrection but she also knows just how to stop it. The Tuesday recording's got them all thrown off so between Jamie's beat-boxing and Doug's inability to remember the title of Trading Places, this one's a train wreck!
