As has (sort of) become tradition, we're kicking this year off with a musician. None other than everyone's favorite golf parody songwriter, Sam Harrop.
We talk about his musical origin story, how he ended up taking #GolfTwitter by storm with his parody songs, and when and how he fell in love with golf.
As I mention in the show, my YouTube show, That Range Life: A Show Sometimes About Golf, which I co-host with DrivingRangeHeroes.com's Bill Bush will now also be available as a podcast! Give it a listen if you're into random conversations about all sorts of things which sometimes includes golf.
Thanks for listening and please subscribe and leave a review of the show. It really helps!
David Edel of Edel Golf joins me this week to talk about his new SMS wedge that's just been released, his career in golf, the origins of his company, and the origins of his love of golf...and also Bill Murray.
You should definitely check out the SMS wedge. It's quite literally a game-changer.
Ben Lyons has covered the Oscars on the red carpet and back stage, he's reviewed movies for a living, he was Chief Content Officer for ThePlayersTribune.com, and he's been a contributor for ESPN LA.
But most importantly, he lovesgolf.
We talk about a lot of those things, his new website, FairwayClubGolf.com, as well as a few fun facts about his father, movie critic, Jeffrey Lyons.
This week the all-knowing golf equipment guru of GolfWRX.com, Ryan Barath, joins me on the show to talk beer, pizza, and a couple of his origin stories.
Ryan is one of the most passionate people I have ever had on the show and that passion extends well beyond just the world of golf.
You can (and absolutely should) follow Ryan on Twitter at https://www.twitter.com/RDSBarath and on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/RDSBarath.
You can follow me on Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube at @KrisMcEwen.
The show is back with an all-new guest this week, Matt Neeley, VP of Product Development for Tour Edge Golf!
Considering his age, Matt has had quite the career already within the world of golf equipment. From his first job at Adams Golf to designing clubs for Nike, and now developing some of the best equipment in the game at Tour Edge.
We talk about what it was like starting a new job in the midst of a pandemic, last year's release of the Hot Launch E-series clubs, and the company's newly released Exotics 721 clubs.
GOS From The Archives - Cassie Bausch, Cathy Harbin, and Diane Knox
02 Mar 2021
00:53:17
It's my very first clip show!
I thought as we kick-off Women's History Month, it would be a good opportunity to revisit some conversations I've had with a few of the women involved in golf that I've had on the show.
And finally, Diane Knox, our conversation covered a lot of different topics, but these two clips are about how she became involved on the broadcasting side of the game and how she fell in love (after she hated it for so long) with playing golf. (Full episode here: Golf Origin Stories - Diane Knox (buzzsprout.com))
Michael Vrska III is the second Vrska I've had on the show! Back in Season 1, I actually had his dad on the show! You can listen to that episode here.
That being said, MV3 is creating his own path in the world of golf. At the age of 25, he is already the Marketing Manager for one of my favorite golf companies, Asher Golf.
We talk about nicknames as a kid, the brand itself, a fun story about the release of one of their most popular releases ever, and when, how, and why he fell in love with golf.
I highly recommend checking out everything AsherGolf.com has to offer, especially their golf gloves. I've been using them every season since I started playing.
My guest this week is the Marketing and Social Media Manager for Srixon, Cleveland, XXIO, and Asics, Noelle Zavaleta!
Noelle also happens to be one hell of a golfer. I know this because much of her early playing days are actually on record!
We talk about her career as an amateur, going all the way back to her early-teens and into her college playing days, when she fell in love with golf, and what it's like on the marketing side to release new golf equipment to the masses.
My guest this week is my good friend, Jason Hiland, founder, and owner, of Sub70 Golf.
While you may already be familiar with Jason and Sub70, what you may not know is that he actually owns two other golf companies, Hurricane Golf and Diamond Tour Golf, one of which he started way back in 1995.
We kick things off by discussing Sub70's upcoming Tommy Armour III iron release. How the partnership began, what it was like working with TAIII, and what it's like preparing for a new equipment release.
Then we get into all of his company origins as well as his own golf origin story.
You can follow Jason on Twitter @GolfSub70 and check out all of the Sub70 Golf equipment at GolfSub70.com.
My guest this week has written for both Golf.com and The Golfer's Journal, is a Twitter-thread master, and just an all-around great human being.
Laz and I talk about his current water-fast, his piece in the most recent edition of The Golfer's Journal titled "Life in the Front Row", his essay about race from June of 2020, and close things out talking about sitcoms and comedy television.
Today's guest is everyone's favorite high-kicking golfer, the one and only, PJ Koenig!
PJ and I talk about his recent 15-year milestone of sobriety and how his experience with fighting alcoholism has spread into his golf life. We also talk about his jump into golf photography, the culture of golf courses, his new partnership with AboutGolf, and when and why he fell in love with the game of golf.
If you aren't already, you should definitely follow PJ on Instagram @PJKoenig.
As someone who has been using the app for about a month or so, I'm a huge fan of it and think it could help every level of golfer.
Malcolm and I talk about the mental aspects of the game using a few examples of the app's "Daily Drive" segments and the origins of the app itself.
As I mentioned in the intro, we only touch on Malcolm's own golf origin story. To learn more about the app, Malcolm's background, and going to college in a little town across the pond called St. Andrews, you should give his episode of Talking Golf Getaways a listen. It's a fantastic conversation.
And, as always, you can find me on Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube @KrisMcEwen. I'm also giving some stuff away on the YouTube channel, so go subscribe and enter to win!
You may not know who exactly Ryan Lendt is unless you're a Pearl Jam loving guitar player.
Ryan is an amazing music teacher and has a YouTube channel that I (and about 55,000 others) unapologetically watch nearly every day. But, as it turns out, he also happens to be an obsessive golfer.
We talk about the origins of his channel, I meet a few of his beloved pet turtles, and we discuss when, how, and why he loves golf like the rest of us.
Does Matt Ginella really need an introduction? I mean, it's Matt Ginella.
For the "season finale" of Golf Origin Stories, I have the pleasure of talking with Matt Ginella.
We talk about his love of municipal golf courses, his new podcast The Fire Pit, music, what we love about the game of golf, and manifestation boards! Even his son, Bandon, makes an appearance!
Patrick Mudd is chasing his dream of becoming a professional golfer on the PGA Tour. We talk about his early days competing at a high-level and his support system to make it possible to pursue his dream...oh, and bread baking. We talk a lot about bread baking. Because it's awesome.
You've been warned!
Follow Patrick on Instagram and Twitter @PatrickMudd12.
You can follow me on Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube @Kris McEwen and on Facebook @KrisMcEwenGolf.
Mr. Fried Egg, himself, Andy Johnson, joins me this week on #Golf Origin Stories!
We talk about the beginnings of TheFriedEgg.com, when and where his love of golf course architecture began, drones (because, why not), and when he fell in love with golf.
Dan Erdman started his company, Uther, in 2016 with three golf towel designs, one of which I fell in love with and still hangs from my bag to this day.
My two favorite worlds, music and golf, collide once again this week!
Mat Kearney is a singer/songwriter out of Nashville as well as an obsessed golfer just like the rest of us.
As you can expect, we talk quite a bit about both subjects, covering his music and golf origin stories, his new song, "Grand Canyon" and the fantastic, golf-themed music video that goes along with it, and a bonus origin story that I can relate to regarding the spelling of his name.
Lieutenant Colonel Dan Rooney has served three tours in Iraq as an F-16 fighter pilot, founder of Folds of Honor, oh, and he's also a PGA Professional.
"Noonan", as his friends call him, has recently written a new book called Fly Into the Wind and we talk about what it's all about and how it can help all of us.
As always, thank you so much for listening! Please subscribe, rate, and review this little "try hard" podcast!

Will and James are a couple of Assistant Superintendents on the east coast that have decided to start a new podcast called Not So Superintendent. It's a really fun show that doesn't take itself too seriously and gives us some behind-the-scenes stories about golf course maintenance and how certain types of members can drive them crazy.

It's been a while since I've had a pal or two on the show to just hang out and talk golf!
This week it's Brad and Cal Stovie, two of my #GolfChat pals and #GreaverCupII playing partners. Between the common approach and appreciation of the game the three of us share along with our love of music, the three of us hit it off right away.
We also talk about Maddix Stovie's fantastic Etsy site, Simply Things by Maddix. You can check out the online store here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/SimplyThingsByMaddix
Andy Frye is currently covering sports for Forbes magazine, but he’s also written for ESPN, Rolling Stones, the Chicago Tribune...all without a journalism degree.
Andy shares his experiences interviewing some of the biggest names in golf, including Justin Rose, Brooks Koepka, Annika Sorenstam, and David Feherty.
He also has written something on LinkedIn, of all places, about his leap from cubicle dweller to sportswriter that I found to be incredibly inspiring.
We talk about that, the first sport he ever covered, something called “Fistball”, a few of his golf stories, and a book he’s currently working on called “Smashing Adversity”.
If you enjoy unique insights from all different kinds of athletes, in and outside of golf, you should definitely follow Andy on Twitter at @SportyFrye.
This week's guest is Abby Liebenthal, the Senior Manager of U.S. Open Fan Engagement.

This week's guest is one of the top golf course architects today, David McLay Kidd. The man behind Bandon Dunes, Mammoth Dunes, and Gamble Sands discusses the comparisons between making music and movies with that of designing and constructing golf courses.

You can follow Tour Edge on Twitter at @TourEdgeGolf and follow me on Twitter (and Instagram) @KrisMcEwen.

As always, you can follow me on Twitter (and Instagram) at @KrisMcEwen and thank you so much for listening!
We talk about all sorts of things (as we tend to do on this show) from how she became involved in the golf industry herself, when she (eventually) fell in love with golf, and some advice for those looking to become involved in the media world.
Closing out Twitter Pal/Listener Appreciation Month with a good one!
From hitting golf balls in a parking lot in Alaska as a 20-something Pepsi delivery man to breaking 100 in Hawaii, Rick is a great story in of himself.
It also just so happens he's a huge Pearl Jam fan. So, of course, we talk about that, too.
My guest this week is Shon Crewe, co-host of the Northwest Golf Show on ESPN Radio - 710AM in Seattle.
As I sometimes do with my guest, we talk about a lot. From the work she's doing with Pets for Patriots, the Seattle sports scene, a little Pearl Jam (she lives in Seattle, after all), and, of course, how, when, and why she fell in love with the game of golf.

Gavin Dear, the Chief Commercial Officer for Shot Scope, is my guest this week on Golf Origin Stories.
We talk about the new Shot Scope V3 coming out on July 7th, the company origin story and how he became involved with Shot Scope, and when Gavin fell in love with the game of golf.
This was a fun conversation with Gavin, little did I know I was talking to an absolute stick! The dude can play some golf!
As always, if you like the show, please subscribe, rate, and leave a review, and thanks for listening!
We talk about both of the shows, how he got involved with THP, when he became obsessed with golf gear, and when and why he fell in love with the game of golf.
For those of you on Twitter, I highly recommend giving Dan a follow at @Canadan. He's definitely as golf obsessed as the rest of us.

You can check out the yardage books and get one for your favorite course at Golflogix.com.
My guest this week is nothing short of a Chicago legend. Patrick Mannelly was the long snapper for the Chicago Bears for 16 years. It's an unheard-of length of time not just for a professional football player, but even more so for a long snapper. In fact, Patrick was so good at his job, it's quite possible you have never even heard his name.
More importantly, Patrick is as golf obsessed as the rest of us. To the point that he's built himself a little indoor driving range in his garage at home.
We talk about his NFL career, his beer collaboration with Tighthead Brewing, and, of course, when and why he fell in love with the game of golf.
Adam Rehberg is the Ball Fitting Manager for Bridgestone Golf, but that's not where we start in our conversation. Based on a Twitter meme that was going around, we had to start with his first job in high school because I had no idea such a job existed.
From there we talk about his actual career, including how he eventually made his way to Bridgestone Golf, and, of course, when he fell in love with the game of golf.
My guest this week is one of my favorite people in the golf world. Cassie Bausch is the Social Media Manager (job one of many) for Club Champion, but also one of the original members of the #GolfChat group on Twitter.
