In this episode, Leighton is joined by England Golf regular Matt Draper, Laura Yapp (Junior Development Manager at England Golf), and Martin Crowder (Head of Development at The Golf Foundation) to explore the Junior Journey — a collaborative initiative between England Golf and The Golf Foundation.

Together, they discuss how the partnership is creating opportunities to inspire children and young people to play golf, nurturing a lifelong love for the game. The conversation delves into how clubs can:

• Support juniors to start — and stay — in golf
• Build strong junior sections through workforce and volunteer development
• Grow the game by encouraging more young people to take that first swing

From first lessons to club membership, this episode shines a light on how a united approach can create sustainable junior golf pathways across the UK.  It also includes a wider discussion on Junior Golf at venues across the country

James Brockington - GM, Henley Golf Club - GCTUK 13117 Oct 202500:55:40

In this episode, Leighton kicks things off with some exciting announcements — including our upcoming Workshop in partnership with Club Benchmarking and a potential tour to the GMA/ASTMA Conference in Melbourne, Australia. Full details are available in the show notes below.

Leighton and Eddie are then joined by James Brockington, General Manager of Henley Golf Club. James might be making more regular appearances on the show going forward — perhaps even stepping in as a co-host or host!

We dive deep into what makes James tick — both as a person and as a GM. From earning his degree in the U.S. and spending time in the finance industry, to developing his leadership philosophy focused on team building and empowerment, James shares valuable insights into his professional journey and management approach.  We also ask James what he would do differently if he could start again with his own club and what some of the challenges are for Golf Clubs currently.

Henley Golf Club is currently undergoing course improvement works and considering a major clubhouse project, so there's plenty on James's plate — and plenty to discuss.

Management Series, with Viki Hart - Monifeith and Bob Marchbanks - Bramley - GCTUK 12622 Aug 202501:19:17

In the first episode of our three-part GCTUK series, we feature two Managers from opposite ends of the UK.

After Leighton & Eddie catch up, our first guest is Victoria (Viki) Hart, the ambitious General Manager of Monifieth Golf Links in Scotland. The historic Links is home to three golf clubs, and Viki is leading an exciting period of growth while also overseeing a major course improvement project with renowned shaper Conor Walsh. Viki also shares fresh insights on how golf can better attract and develop junior and women golfers—two groups that remain underrepresented in the game.

We're also delighted to welcome Bob Marchbanks, General Manager at Bramley Golf Club and current Captain of the GCMA London & Home Counties region. Bob brings a grounded perspective on the challenges facing the golf industry today. He also reflects on Bramley's recent transformation, driven by a major investment in interior design and member-focused improvements—creating a more seamless and thoughtful experience for both members and guests.

GCMA Insights on GCTUK - Quarter 2 member utilisation data with BRS03 Aug 202200:38:17

An innovation this episode with a Golf Club Talk UK podcast and GCMA webinar taking place at the same time.  Gavin Robinson of the GCMA kicks off the session with Leighton and they are joined by Karen Moss and Kevin Murray from BRS.  BRS are leading the way in providing relevant and timely data.  Kevin and Karen talk through the current trends that are emerging from the Q2 Participation Report.  The numbers are vital in helping clubs to continue to make data driven decisions.

Q2 still looks healthy but the information suggests that clubs keep their eye on the ball to ensure numbers remain strong.  Kevin gives some regional figures as well as touching on membership numbers.

An essential listen if you want to stay ahead of the curve.

Please note that the Quarterly Participation Report is linked below and can be read in conjunction with listening to the episode:

BRS on maximising Green Fee Revenue - GCTUK 6614 Jul 202200:49:41

Leighton kicks off with an introduction from St Andrews in the lead up to the Open.  He's also joined briefly by Tracey Walker who gives us a quick heads up into BIGGA's role at the Open Championship.  This involves a delegation of 55 Greenkeepers raking bunkers with each grouping throughout the tournament.

Leighton also speaks to BRS/Golfnow, the show's partners on how to use data to maximise your green fee revenue.  With playing numbers just starting to level out, it's important all clubs are utilising available space and data can be a great way to help.  Knowing trends on your tee sheet and what competitors might be doing is key.  This can help to minimise impact on your membership or if you're a green fee led club - how to ensure you are utilising your asset to the full.

Thanks to Stevie and Karen for some really useful information.
