Weāre revisiting Season 9ās āAbsolute Justice,ā and we absolutely LOVED this one. Smallville goes full DC Comics as the Justice Society of America enters the story, bringing Hawkman, Doctor Fate, Stargirl, Checkmate, and a whole lot of superhero history along with them. This two-part event honestly feels more like a Smallville movie than a regular episode, and weāre geeking out over seeing Clark come face-to-face with the generation of heroes that came before him. We talk about Hawkman and Oliverās wonderfully chaotic rivalry, Kent Nelsonās heartbreaking story as Doctor Fate, the JSAās legacy, and those HUGE glimpses into Clarkās future as the hero who will lead a new generation. Plus, Martian Manhunter is back, Amanda Waller is pulling the strings, and Smallville suddenly feels like one enormous living DC Universe. This is the kind of episode Going Back to Smallville was made for. Oliverās past comes back with a bow and a serious grudge. Weāre digging into the arrival of the Dark Archer, Oliverās struggle with the darker side of himself, and how Mia fits into a story that forces him to confront the kind of hero he actually wants to be. Lois and Clark try to navigate being an official couple, while danger keeps finding them in the forms of arrows to the chest and hospital visits from Zod. Disciple gives us plenty to be excited and nervous about heading deeper into Season 9. Things got very Days of Future Past this week. We break down Season 9, Episode 9, āPandora,ā and finally experience the nightmare future Lois has been seeing all season. We LOVED this one. Lois gets dropped into a Metropolis where Zod has won, the sun has turned red, the resistance is barely hanging on, and Clark has become a broken version of himself after losing her. Seeing this world through Lois makes everything hit harder, especially as she reunites with Clark and we learn just how much her disappearance changed him. It has that alternate-future energy we love from stories like Buffyās āThe Wishā and the Terminator movies, where everything has gone horribly wrong and our heroes are fighting from underneath. Add in some HUGE Clark and Lois moments, and āPandoraā has us seriously excited, a little mind-blown, and very ready to see where Smallville Season 9 goes next. The Wonder Twins are in Smallville!! Weāre freaking out over 9x8 āIdolā and the wonderfully absurd decision to bring Zan and Jayna into this universe. Somehow, thatās only half the reason we absolutely LOVE this episode, because Lois and Clark are getting seriously steamy. Lois starts putting the pieces together about Clark and the Blur, Clark gets dangerously close to exposing his secret, and the whole thing builds to Lois realizing that no matter how she feels about the Blur, she canāt stop thinking about Clark. Then she turns around and gives him THAT KISS. Weāre talking Wonder Twin powers, Clark becoming a true symbol of hope, Lois nearly discovering everything, and one of our favorite Lois and Clark moments yet. Smallville āIdolā is ridiculous, romantic, and exactly our kind of episode. | Kandor | 25 Aug 2026 | 01:22:17
We absolutely loved how big, emotional, and downright epic this one felt. For the first time, Clarkās flesh-and-blood father Jor-El is actually in Smallville, giving Clark the chance to come painfully close to knowing the man behind the voice that has guided him for years. Weāre talking about Jor-El and Zodās friendship before everything fell apart, the tragedy that shaped Zod after losing his wife and child, and just how heartbreaking it is watching so many relationships on Krypton end in loss. We definitely missed having Lois around this week, but getting to see more of Krypton before its destruction gave Season 9 a scale we werenāt expecting. And when Clark finally meets Jor-El? This one got us. āKandorā is a sad episode, but itās also one of those Smallville stories that makes Clarkās Kryptonian history feel bigger than ever while still bringing everything back home to the Kent Farm. After years of flirting, fighting, terrible timing, and enough unresolved tension to power all of Metropolis, this episode gives us the moment weāve been waiting for, and we absolutely loved it. Clark and Loisā chemistry is basically the heartbeat of the entire episode, from their wonderfully awkward Good Morning Metropolis audition to jealous Clark watching Lois and Oliver together, Lois finally admitting how she really feels about Clark, and that incredible final scene at the Daily Planet. We also get Oliver taking Mia under his wing, bringing Speedy into the Smallville universe, plus Tess and Zod continuing their dangerous game of Kryptonian chess. Thereās a lot happening in Smallville 9x6 āCrossfire,ā but for us, this one belongs to Clark and Lois. That kiss was a long time coming, and it was absolutely worth the wait. This one feels less like a typical superhero episode and more like Smallvilleās take on Michael Douglasās The Game. In this episode of our Going Back to Smallville rewatch podcast and series retrospective, Oliver Queen is pushed through a wild, increasingly dangerous game that forces him to confront just how far heās fallen and whether thereās still a hero underneath all that pain. Chloeās methods are definitely extreme, Lois gets pulled into the chaos, and weāve got plenty to say about all of it, but what really makes āRouletteā work for us is Oliverās redemption. Seeing him rediscover the part of himself that wants to save people, followed by the return of Green Arrow alongside Clark, made this one incredibly satisfying. The Green Arrow is back, and we couldnāt be happier. | Echo | 04 Aug 2026 | 01:30:13
Clark and Lois are finally starting to feel like the heart of Smallville, and āEchoā gives us everything weāve been waiting for. In this episode of Going Back to Smallville, our Smallville Season 9 rewatch podcast and series retrospective, weāre talking about Clarkās temporary ability to read minds, the adorable chaos that comes from hearing Loisās unfiltered thoughts, and why their growing connection works so well. From maple donuts and a not-quite-date at a monster truck rally to Lois arriving in a gown after Clark stands her up, this episode understands exactly what makes these two special. We also break down Toymanās return, Oliverās heartbreaking downward spiral, and Clark realizing that saving his friends means noticing when they need him. We loved this one, but more than anything, we loved watching Clark and Lois move closer to becoming the couple we know theyāre meant to be. Weāre revisiting Smallville Season 9, Episode 3, āRabid,ā a horror-inspired rewatch that feels like the showās love letter to zombie movies like Dawn of the Dead and 28 Days Later. We had an absolute blast with this one as Clark races to save a zombie-infected Lois, leading to some fantastic Clois moments, creepy action, and one of the most fun standalone episodes of the season. We also talk about why Smallvilleās movie homage episodes work so well, Oliverās downward spiral, the eerie outbreak across Metropolis, and how the ending quietly sets up even bigger things to come with Zod. | Metallo | 07 Jul 2026 | 01:24:52
Weāre breaking down Smallville Season 9 Episode 2, āMetallo,ā and we freaking loved this one. Clark and Lois are finally back in the same scene, Clark is stepping away from the whole ācutting off his humanityā era, and the show instantly feels more alive because of it. We talk about why John Corben works so well as Metallo, how his kryptonite heart makes him a genuinely tragic and dangerous antagonist, and why all those Terminator references made us so happy. Add in Lois being thrilled Clark is back, the Blur drama, Chloe pushing Clark, and the first real sparks of Season 9 Clois energy, and this Smallville series retrospective gave us exactly the kind of episode weāve been waiting for. | Supergirl (2026) | 03 Jul 2026 | 02:48:00
Everyone is wrong, Supergirl absolutely rules. Tonight weāre talking about Supergirl (2026), the 4th project in James Gunnās DCU, and why Karaās story hits so differently from Supermanās. We loved the deeper look at Kara as a person, shaped by loss, anger, survival, and a life that never gave her the same warmth Clark had on Earth. This just-released DCU movie gave us a Supergirl who feels messy, wounded, funny, and heroic in her own way, plus Krypto, Ruthye, a brutal space revenge quest, and Jason Momoaās Lobo being exactly as awesome as we hoped. Mostly, weāre here to happily defend this movie from the āitās bad actuallyā crowd, because nope. Not today. Weāre kicking off our Smallville Season 9 rewatch with āSavior,ā and wow, what a season premiere. Lois Lane finally returns after her mysterious disappearance, Clark is rocking the all-black look while trying to embrace his Kryptonian destiny, and the show wastes no time setting up a season full of mystery, danger, and some seriously intriguing future teases. We talk about Lois being front and center where she absolutely belongs, why Brian Austin Greenās John Corben is such a great addition to the cast, Clarkās struggle between humanity and destiny, and just how much we love the setup surrounding Loisā dream and what it could mean for everything thatās coming. Between the return of Lois, the arrival of Zod, the rise of the Blur, and one of the strongest season premieres the series has delivered, this one had us excited from beginning to end. | The Death and Return of Superman | 16 Jun 2026 | 02:14:10
In this episode of Going Back to Smallville, weāre looking back at The Death and Return of Superman, one of the standout films in the DC Animated Movie Universe and a surprisingly emotional adaptation of one of DCās most iconic stories. We talk about why Supermanās death still hits so hard, how the movie balances the classic Death of Superman storyline with the larger DCAMU continuity, and why the changes involving Cyborg Superman, Darkseid, and the final act actually work better than we expected. From Doomsdayās brutal arrival to the worldās grief after Supermanās sacrifice and the mystery surrounding his return, this movie gave us plenty to love, plenty to discuss, and a healthy dose of nostalgia for one of the most important Superman stories ever told. Join us as we revisit a film that honors the legacy of the Man of Steel while still carving out its own place in the DC universe. | Season 8 Review and Special Features | 09 Jun 2026 | 02:07:36
In this episode of Going Back to Smallville, weāre looking back at Smallville Season 8 and celebrating what might be the showās strongest season yet. From Clarkās move to Metropolis and the rise of the Red-Blue Blur to Lois and Clarkās growing relationship, Tess Mercerās arrival, Oliverās darkest struggles, and the Doomsday storyline, this season finally feels like Smallville fully embraced its future. For Matt, this is one of his favorite seasons of the series so far, and we talk about why Season 8 feels like the moment the show stopped holding back and became the superhero story it was always meant to be. | Doomsday | 02 Jun 2026 | 02:17:50
In this episode of Going Back to Smallville, weāre breaking down āDoomsdayā and talking about everything that worked for us, everything that hurt, and why this finale still leaves us excited for Season 9. From Jimmyās heartbreaking death and the birth of Watchtower to Lois disappearing with the Legion ring and the shocking arrival of Zod, this episode throws a lot at us emotionally. We really enjoyed it overall, even if the Clark vs. Doomsday fight felt a little smaller than we hoped for considering this is basically Smallvilleās take on The Death of Superman. Still, āDoomsdayā delivers big finale energy, major consequences, and one of the most emotional endings of the entire series. | Injustice | 29 May 2026 | 01:49:30
Going Back to Smallville returns with our Smallville season 8 rewatch of āInjustice,ā an episode that pushes the show into some surprisingly dark territory while introducing Tess Mercerās version of the Injustice League with Plastique, Parasite, Livewire, and Neutron. We talk about Clark struggling with what to do about Davis/Doomsday, Oliver becoming more ruthless, and Chloe getting pulled deeper into the chaos as the season races toward the finale. More than anything, this episode feels like a major turning point for Tess, because by the end of it, it really seems like she officially knows Clarkās secret and believes sheās helping him fulfill his destiny. Between the DC references, the growing tension between Clark and Oliver, and the Kandor tease at the end, āInjusticeā gave us a lot to unpack. | Beast | 12 May 2026 | 01:22:24
Chloe really looked Clark in the eyes and went, āNopeā¦ Iām choosing Davis.ā š¬ In this episode of Going Back to Smallville, weāre talking Smallville 8x20 āBeastā rewatch podcast + series retrospective style, and honestly? We liked it. Itās definitely getting kind of eye-rolly watching Davis act the way he does and Chloe keep doubling down on bad choices, but the episode itself is still really good in that dark, stressful, classic-Smallville-chaos way. We get into the nightmare fuel basement vibes, Oliverās āmake the hard callā energy, Jimmy getting dragged into the fallout, and that Phantom Zone plan that almost solves everythingā¦ until Chloe pulls the plug and fully betrays Clark to protect him. Messy, dramatic, and somehow still a blast. | Stiletto | 05 May 2026 | 01:18:44
In this episode of Going Back to Smallville, weāre breaking down Season 8 Episode 19, āStiletto,ā This one is such a wild mix of chaos, heart, and character growth. We spend a lot of time digging into Lois creating Stiletto. Not just the costume (which we have thoughts on), but what it says about where sheās at as a reporter whoās tired of being overlooked and just wants her shot. Itās messy, itās a little unhinged, and honestlyā¦ kind of relatable. We also get into how that whole plan accidentally leads to one of the most important moments of the episode: Lois finally connecting with the Red-Blue Blur in a way thatās not about chasing a headline, but understanding him as a person. Itās funny, itās awkward, itās surprisingly emotionalā¦ and itās a big step forward for Lois Lane becoming Lois Lane. | Eternal | 28 Apr 2026 | 01:55:50
Our Smallville Season 8 rewatch covers S8xE18: Eternal, where Davis Bloomeās origin finally comes into focus and it completely reframes him as both tragic and terrifying. Weāre looking at how he arrived the same night as Clark, what his childhood with Lionel and Lex did to him, and how that lack of love shaped the monster heās becoming. At the same time, the episode doesnāt let him off the hook. His killing spree, his connection to Chloe, and that brutal lab scene force everyone into impossible choices. Itās one of those episodes that makes you sit with the idea that Clark got a chance Davis never didā¦ and still asks if things couldāve gone differently. | Hex | 21 Apr 2026 | 01:35:38
This week on our Smallville rewatch podcast, weāre breaking down Season 8 Episode 17, āHex,ā where Zatanna drops into the story and turns everything upside down. Including giving Chloe the life she thinks she wants by swapping her into Loisā shoes. What starts as a fun Freaky Friday-ish situation quickly hits deeper, as Chloeās jealousy, purpose, and relationships all get put under a microscope, while Zatannaās emotional story about bringing her father back adds real weight to the magic. On top of that, Clark gets flipped into a version of himself without his usual instincts, forcing Chloe to step up in a way that quietly sets up her future. Between the character growth, the chaos, and Zatanna absolutely stealing the episode, this one gave us way more to talk about than we expected. This Smallville Season 8 rewatch dives into āTurbulence,ā where Clark starts pushing his luck as the Red-Blue Blur, Tess gets way too close to the truth, and everything around Davis, Chloe, and Jimmy spirals into something messy and honestly heartbreaking. We talk about Clark wanting to be seen, that intense plane rescue, and how Tess might already know more than sheās saying, while the Davis storyline goes full dark with Jimmy unraveling and Chloe caught in the middle. Itās an episode all about trust falling apartāwhoās losing it, who never had it, and how it all sets up some serious endgame energy for Season 8. Clark tells Lois EVERYTHINGā¦ and somehow thatās only the beginning of the chaos! This episode really feels like a āwhat if?ā timeline, and we get into all of it: Clark choosing to reveal himself to the world, Lois being the one he trusts with his biggest secret, and how surprisingly fast everything spirals once the truth is out there. Weāve got a lot to unpack about identity, trust, and whether the world is actually ready for the truth. This week on our Smallville rewatch podcast, weāre talking Smallville Season 8 Episode 12, āBulletproof,ā and this one really puts Clark in the middle of a messy, very human kind of hero story. With John Jones shot by one of Metropolisās own, Clark goes undercover as a cop and gets a front-row seat to loyalty, corruption, and the kind of brotherhood that can either save you or pull you under. āBulletproofā is such a weirdly grounded Smallville episode in the best way, mixing superhero mythology with police drama, heartbreak, trust, and one more reminder that Clark canāt carry everything alone. ****** Support the channel š https://patreon.com/hopefullyawesome Join this channel to get access to perks: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHRvjz_pKP1Th5Y8ZIwFMtQ/join Check out our Merch! - https://hopefullyawesome.creator-spring.com/ This video is NOT sponsored.
