I'm backkkkkk! Did you miss me?! If you've been hanging around here you'll know that I've been MIA for three weeks as I've been healing up from a recent major surgery... and I'm finally ready to do a TELL ALL on the entire thing.

 

So, in today's episode, I'm walking you through Part One: the surgery and the first couple of weeks of recovery from my bilateral explant and full capsulectomy. We're talking about what the day of surgery looked like, as well as a full behind the scenes look at Day 1-10 post-op.

 

I dive deep into the physical, emotional and psychological pain experienced in recovery, the dependency that this required me to have on my husband, the isolation and darkness this created in my head, and ultimately, how I felt as if I barely survived some days.

 

This episode is the first part of a multiple part series. In future episodes I plan to dive into the infection that caused me to end up in the hospital, as well as the rest of what this experience has taught me as someone who is newly post-op from a life-changing surgery.

Here's How To THAW OUT When In A Freeze State09 Apr 202500:33:05
When we are faced with danger in our lives (whether that is real or simply perceived), our nervous system responds by entering into a stress response. Depending on our environment and our past experiences, this stress response can look very different for each person.     One of these 'trigger' responses is known as the freeze state, and is one that can often paralyze people in their lives, preventing them from being able to move forward or go after their goals. In today's episode, we are covering in great length what exactly the 'freeze' state is, what this can look like for different people, and how to effectively move out of this state, should you find yourself here.

 

 

Biggest Takeaways

  • The 'freeze' response is a trigger response that happens when your sympathetic nervous system becomes activated. This is a stress response that can cause someone to 'freeze' in their behaviours, actions, etc.- and can show up differently for each person.
  • For some, freeze states can result in a person entering a depression-like state, where they are unable to 'get up and get moving'. For others, this can be a 'functional' freeze state, where they can appear to have the energy to move through basic responsibilities or oligations, but end up crashing afterwards. And for some, a freeze state could also include disassociation.
  • To move out of a freeze state effectively, you want to thaw gently, giving your nervous system time to catch up. Just as the freeze state can be dysregulating- so can the methods you take to move out of it. We discuss the top ways to do exactly this in the episode.

134. Psilocybin: A Plant Medicine For Healing10 Jun 202600:29:50

Magic Mushrooms have often been referred to as a fun ‘party’ drug- but what if I told you that the active compounds inside actually have the ability to help you heal?

I learned about the powers of psilocybin years ago when they talked about clinical trials being done to study the effects they had for reducing ptsd, depression and more. And at the time, despite not being a ‘drug’ person, I thought- it’s natural and it comes from the earth, how bad can it be?

Well, I’m glad that I listened to that nudge, because since then, it has been a huge part of my healing journey and something I strongly believe has contributed to me getting to where I am now in my life.

Today in our 'Friday's with Friends' feature we are chatting with Dr. Nicholas Nelson about his journey to becoming an established Chiropractor and Author, and his 'unorthodox' approach to health and wellbeing.

He shares his story of how his mother was let down by our western medicine system, and how this ultimately influenced his interest and pursuit of something better... and his decision to write a book that would forever change the health and mindset of many.

 

Here's A Little About Dr. Nelson + His Journey:

Dr. Nicholas Nelson graduated from his Doctorate program in Hayward, California with the academic distinction of Magna Cum Laude, as well as receiving the distinction of Clinical Honors on two separate occasions.

His undergraduate education took place in his home town of Edmonton, Alberta and consisted of an eclectic mix of anthropology, biology, philosophy, psychology, and neurology, with a personal interest in cross referencing religious theology with his scientific studies.

Dr. Nelson always embodied an attitude of thinking outside the box. He continued this pattern while attending university and graduate school by creating what he called a "parallel curriculum" which involved sampling literature from as many of the paradigm shifting sciences, such as quantum theory, string theory, holographic theory, and epigenetics, along with many diverse areas of interest such as the occult sciences, metaphysics, religion, spirituality, and esoteric knowledge, while simultaneously studying the hard sciences in his formal training in an effort to round out his studies and draw knowledge from every level of thinking he could.

Through this lens, Dr. Nelson considers the human body from many different levels and understands the uniqueness and complexity of the human experience. He decided to write Inner Alchemy because it was "the book I was looking for but couldn't find". After years of reading material in his varied areas of interest he came to the conclusion that a single book that brought them all together in an easy and accessible way had not yet been written, so it became his mission to do just that.

Inner Alchemy is a synthesis of over a decade of both formal education and the personal pursuit of trying to understand the human body, the human mind, the human soul, and our unique place in the cosmos. Dr. Nelson believes that this area of thought is still largely untapped and hopes his work will help lead many curious minds to walk the same path and further expand our collective knowledge of ourselves.

Defining What Wealth Means For Your Life [What The Mountains of BC Had To Share]27 Aug 202500:35:01

This week's episode takes you on the road with me... literally.

 

What started as a summer road trip through Alberta, Idaho, Washington, and BC quickly turned into one of those "holy sh*t, is this really happening?" kind of adventures. Imagine cruising along, vibes high, and then boom- your tire blows out on the highway. Suddenly you're stranded, dealing with unexpected costs, lost time, and a whole lot of stress you didn't plan for.

 

But here's the thing: that moment cracked something open for me.

 

Afterwards, as we continued on our roadtrip, I couldn't stop thinking about how much we've been sold this lie around freedom, wealth, and success. We've been told it looks like a big bank account, fancy cars, luxury clothes, or hustling now so you can finally enjoy life later.

 

And honestly? That's bullshit.

 

This trip reminded me that freedom isn't about money or stuff- it's about presence. Wealth isn't about what you own- it's about how you live. Success isn't some shiny end goal- it's found in the messy, unexpected, ordinary moments where you're actually awake to your own life.

As women, we have been taught to only value the "doing"- to be consistently seeking opportunities in our life to hustle, work, do, achieve and more. And while these 'expansions' are great and can provide blessings to us... a lot of time they come at the sacrifice of the 'contraction'.

 

Together we explore the importance of slowing down, resting, being intentional, and investing an equal amount of our time into activites like these (just like we do with 'work'). We discuss what it means to slow down in order to speed up- and how you might be hindering your success by not taking time off.

For the past (almost) year, I’ve found myself struggling deeply with procrastination, poor communication in my marriage, low libido, being embarrassed about pitching myself/my work, and not taking care of myself. I’ve even been carrying myself different in a crowd- avoiding eye contact, poor posture, the works.

A few months ago I realized how differently I was showing up in my energy, and I didn’t like what I seen. I mean, how could I possibly expect to make a huge impact in my business using my voice if I wasn’t even showing up confidently in who I am?
