In this "Forbes Feature" HCI Podcast episode, Dr. Jonathan H. Westover (https://www.linkedin.com/in/jonathanhwestover/) explores the recent Forbes video, "6 Ways To Recruit Top Gen Z Talent."
See the video here: https://youtu.be/_hIMcGaX3Y8. Video Overview: "On the cusp of their professional lives, Generation-Z was looking forward to joining the workforce in the midst of a strong economy. Enter COVID-19—and all of that changed overnight. Now, as the economy is showing signs of life, this generation is taking a second look at their assumptions about the world of work. And they’re changing their minds on several key issues. A new survey by Tallo asked nearly 10,000 high school and college students about their shifting perspectives on work and what’s important to them in their first full-time position. Compared to last year, young people are significantly more likely to prioritize financial stability, hone their networking skills and consider moving for the right offer. It might be easy to lump Millennials and Gen-Z together—but there are some distinct nuances. While Millennials may not entirely deserve their reputation as job-hoppers, their careers have taken many turns, and they also play a significant role in the gig economy. Tapping into the next generation of talent has become more strategic than ever. Here are six ways recruiters can pivot to get Gen-Z’s attention on the job front." In this "Inspiring TED Talks" HCI Podcast episode, Dr. Jonathan H. Westover (https://www.linkedin.com/in/jonathanhwestover/) explores Joan C. Williams recent TED Talk, "Why Corporate Diversity Programs Fail & What to do Instead." See the video here: https://youtu.be/U8UyOE10Y1s. Video Overview: "In the wake of George Floyd’s death, companies are finally feeling the pressure to do something about diversity, equity, and inclusion. We’ve spent over $1 billion on our diversity efforts with remarkably little to show for it. Why? The basic tools of the diversity-industrial complex haven’t worked. In this persuasive talk, Joan C. Williams explains a better, data-driven approach to interrupt bias at work. Over the past 25 years, Joan C. Williams has played a central role in reshaping the conversation about work, gender, and class. She is a Distinguished Professor of Law, Hastings Foundation Chair, and Founding Director of the Center for WorkLife Law at the University of California, Hastings Law. She is one of the 10 most cited scholars in her field and is the author or co-author of 11 books including “What Works for Women at Work” and “White Working Class.” She developed “bias interrupters,” an evidence-based metrics-driven approach to eradicating implicit bias." Frank Smith (https://www.linkedin.com/in/frank-smith-5b74795/) started his career with a degree in Accounting and after having a few corporate jobs, realized he was designed to lead and enjoyed the lack of structure in the entrepreneurial world. Since 1994 Frank has owned and led 5 different businesses with his over lying passion being around creating a workplace people want to work at. When the dots got connected that running a business by Biblical principles was not only good for business but even better for the employees, Frank had found the secret to Great Business Culture. Today, Frank runs Mosaic Personnel which not only helps connect people to jobs that are more fulfilling but also trains and coaches leaders and companies to create those cultures where people want to come to work. Frank is married to Heidi, they have 3 kids that are all out of college. Frank enjoys car racing, golf and travel when he isn't working.
