We're back baby!! | |||
| 4.FINALE - Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind | Kate Winslet | 27 Feb 2024 | 00:29:00 | |
We are rounding out season 4 of Girl Crush reviewing Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind starring Kate Winslet and Jim Carrey! Kate's portrayal of eclectic Clementine earned her an Oscar nom. This movie is emotional, thought-provoking, happy and sad - a modern classic.
| 4.31 - A Christmas Carol & Buttons | Kate Winslet | 19 Dec 2023 | 00:50:56 | |
Buckle up for possibly our favorite episode of the season reviewing A Christmas Carol (... :The Movie) and Buttons (.... :A Christmas Tale). One is a classic holiday story, with a ~twist~ including mice, distractingly poor animation, and a UK chart-topping single by Kate Winslet herself! The other is like watching a community theater production - what year is it? why are the background characters mouthing the words of lines that are not theirs? it's a musical?! Kate only has one line and then ISN'T IN THE MOVIE?! In other words - it's wholesome but not good and we cried laughing while recording the episode and you absolutely don't want to miss it!
| 2.28 - Speed 2: Cruise Control | Sandra Bullock | 03 Aug 2021 | 00:42:09 | |
Last episode we reviewed the iconic 1994 film, Speed. Now it's time to review the letdown of a sequel, Speed 2: Cruise Control. Speed 2 loses Keanu Reeves and picks up the slowest motorized vehicle possible...both equally devastating changes. The chemistry between Bullock and co-star Jason Patric leaves much to be desired. Willem Dafoe plays the villain, and while very creepy, the story just wasn't built out to create the tension of the original. Speed 2 is not even a slow burn. It's just dead in the water.
| 2.27 - Speed | Sandra Bullock | 27 Jul 2021 | 00:42:56 | |
The time has come to review what’s widely regarded as Sandra Bullock’s breakout film, Speed! Starring Keanu Reeves alongside Sandra, this action-thriller has everything you could want…amazing chemistry between the leads, a tension-filled plot, people coming together in the face of disaster, and a bus jumping 50 feet of unfinished highway.
| 2.26 - Two if by Sea | Sandra Bullock | 20 Jul 2021 | 00:33:24 | |
What do a Barnes & Noble Cashier, a Matisse painting, a fish factory, and a cement truck have in common? Check out Two if by Sea to find out! This 1996 "romantic comedy" features Sandra Bullock and Denis Leary as their characters grapple with moral obligation, slight identity crises, and a blossoming love of art (and each other?). While there were things we liked about this movie, it tries to do a LOT in 90 minutes and we definitely have thoughts on what would've made it better (plus an alternate ending idea)!
| 2.25 - Bionic Showdown: The Six Million Dollar Man and the Bionic Woman | Sandra Bullock | 16 Jul 2021 | 00:33:16 | |
Bullock goes bionic! Join us as we review the 1989 film with the longest title ever, Bionic Showdown: The Six Million Dollar Man and the Bionic Woman. This is Sandra Bullock's second movie, and we have to say there's a clear step up from her first movie which we reviewed last episode.
| 2.24 - Hangmen | Sandra Bullock | 13 Jul 2021 | 00:30:11 | |
We’re going WAY back, to Sandra Bullock’s first movie ever! The 1987 film Hangmen is literally the WORST movie we have ever seen. Not just for Girl Crush Podcast…actually ever. The horrible video quality of watching on YouTube certainly did not help, but woof, this is a tough one! A young Sandra Bullock plays Lisa, the girlfriend of Danny who’s dad is caught up in some serious CIA stuff. Tune in for our thoughts on this plot and on Sandra’s film debut.
| 2.23 - Murder by Numbers | Sandra Bullock | 06 Jul 2021 | 00:46:11 | |
What we expected from this movie - Sandra Bullock playing a boss babe detective.
| 2.22 - Love Potion No. 9 | Sandra Bullock | 29 Jun 2021 | 00:33:41 | |
Take a gypsy, chimpanzees, two nerdy friends, the Prince of England and a love potion and what do you get? Love Potion No. 9, a 1992 rom-com starring Sandra Bullock and Tate Donovan.
| 2.21 - Bird Box | Sandra Bullock | 22 Jun 2021 | 01:05:15 | |
Join us for what is perhaps our most contentious episode! We have very different opinions of the 2018 Netflix Original Bird Box starring Sandra Bullock and Trevante Rhodes. Anne thinks the plot leaves too much unexplained..too many unanswered questions! Ally thinks it’s easy to accept the unexplained and be moved by the tense storyline. We CAN agree on a few things including Sarah Paulson deserved more screen time, Trevante Rhodes=yes, and of course Sandra Bullock’s acting (blindfolded?!) was amazing. So what does that mean for the ratings?? Tune in to find out how we ranked Bird Box against every other Sandy B movie!
| 2.20 - Sandra Bullock Gets Animated | Sandra Bullock | 15 Jun 2021 | 00:42:53 | |
Join us as we review the two animated films Sandra Bullock has starred in - The Prince of Egypt and Minions!
| 2.19 - Hope Floats | Sandra Bullock | 08 Jun 2021 | 01:00:29 | |
Join us as we discuss the 1998 movie Hope Floats starring Sandra Bullock and Harry Connick Jr. alongside adorable child actors Mae Whitman and Cameron Finley. This dramatic rom-com, directed by Forest Whitaker, was the first film produced by Sandra Bullock's production company Fortis Films.
| 4.30 - Little Children | Kate Winslet | 12 Dec 2023 | 00:38:29 | |
Little Children (2006), starring Kate Winslet, Patrick Wilson, Jennifer Connelly, and Noah Emmerich, is a drama/romance/thriller (?) following an unhappy pair of suburbanites engaging in an affair while the community reacts to a recently released felon. While we felt this melancholy plot plodded along and went down too many side avenues to be a big hit - you should still tune in to hear our full review and how Little Children ranks out of all 46 Kate movies!
| 1.BONUS #8 - Friends Reunion Insta Live! | Jennifer Aniston | 04 Jun 2021 | 01:15:44 | |
Could we BE any more excited for this episode?! Join us as we discuss the long-awaited FRIENDS reunion! In season 1 we reviewed and ranked every Jennifer Aniston film, so we were so excited to revisit Jen and the rest of the FRIENDS cast as they took a trip down memory lane.
| 2.18 - When the Party's Over | Sandra Bullock | 01 Jun 2021 | 00:35:45 | |
This week we're reviewing the 1993 movie When The Party's Over, starring Sandra Bullock alongside Rae Dawn Chong and Fisher Stevens. While this film isn't our favorite, we found that it aged well with some of the heavy topics touched on as we follow a group of 20-somethings figuring out life in LA. Plus, there's plenty of 90s fashion and quirky moments that kept us entertained as we discussed the plot! Tune in as we discuss how Sandy's acting chops stack up against her female co-stars as well as how this movie stacks up in the rankings vs. every other Sandra Bullock movie!
| 2.17 - Sandra Bullock’s Early Crime Movies | Sandra Bullock | 25 May 2021 | 00:55:43 | |
This week we are serving up a 3-for-1 episode featuring a very young (and sometimes hard to see on screen tbh) Sandra Bullock in: Who Shot Pat?, The Preppie Murder, and Me and the Mob (which we think is such an awk title... The Mob and Me is so much better!!) Trust us, we are saving you time, money, and sanity by wrapping these 3 less-than-entertaining movies into one very entertaining episode for you!
| 2.16 - The Lake House | Sandra Bullock | 18 May 2021 | 01:04:46 | |
This week we are reviewing the iconic 2006 film The Lake House. Was this the post-Speed Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock reunion everyone was waiting for? No, but they sure did try. Join us as we discuss the reality of a magic mailbox situation, make Netflix a proposition on a great AirBnB opportunity, and spend pretty much the entire episode defending Keanu's character and questioning everyone's 2006 hairstyle choices.
| 2.15 - The Net | Sandra Bullock | 11 May 2021 | 00:46:20 | |
Join us as we review the 1995 action thriller The Net starring Sandra Bullock and Jeremy Northam. In this film, programmer Angela Bennett (played by Sandy) accidentally gets caught in a cyberterrorism plot and has to fight for her life and the truth. We hadn't heard of this movie, but we were pumped to find a fun 90's action movie with an action-packed plot we could follow. Lots of great 90's computer graphics will have you searching online for a floppy disk of Oregon Trail to re-live the glory days.
| 2.14 - The Thing Called Love | Sandra Bullock | 04 May 2021 | 00:34:55 | |
Come on down to Nashville, y’all! This week we are reviewing the 1993 “romantic drama”, The Thing Called Love. We were so pumped reading the country music synopsis from this movie, but were ultimately disappointed with a plot that just didn't quite deliver. Regardless, Sandra shines in her supporting role and, in our opinion, steals the show with her personality, strong acting, and southern hair.
| 2.13 - In Love and War | Sandra Bullock | 27 Apr 2021 | 00:33:47 | |
Join us as we discuss the 1996 film In Love and War starring Sandra Bullock as Agnes Von Kurowsky and Chris O'Donnell as Ernest Hemingway. The film follows their whirlwind romance during WW1 in Italy.

| 2.10 - The Heat | Sandra Bullock | 06 Apr 2021 | 00:41:48 | |

| 4.29 - Mary & The Witch's Flower | Kate Winslet | 05 Dec 2023 | 00:25:04 | |
Mary and the Witch's Flower, released in 2017, surprised us with its cute animation and fun plot! Kate voices one of the antagonists in this anime film directed by Oscar nominee Hiromasa Yonebayashi. With an 89% on Rotton Tomatoes, we weren't alone in liking this movie but tune in to hear where this movie ranks out of all 46 Kate Winslet movies.
| 2.9 - Loverboy | Sandra Bullock | 30 Mar 2021 | 00:30:55 | |

| 2.8 - Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close | Sandra Bullock | 23 Mar 2021 | 01:04:13 | |
Join us as we review the film Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close.
| 2.7 - Forces of Nature | Sandra Bullock | 16 Mar 2021 | 00:39:55 | |
Join us as we discuss the 1999 rom-com Forces of Nature starring young Sandra Bullock & Ben Affleck! This film follows strangers Sarah & Ben who are each trying to make it from NYC to Georgia. After facing numerous natural disasters and travel mishaps, Sarah & Ben must confront both their separate romantic relationships as well as their newfound connection.
| 2.6 - Demolition Man | Sandra Bullock | 09 Mar 2021 | 00:50:28 | |
Join us as we review the 1993 film Demolition Man starring Sandra Bullock alongside Sylvester Stallone and Wesley Snipes. From cryo-prisons, swear-fines, and 90s nostalgia to swanky Taco Bells, VR love scenes, and a pseudo-utopia, this movie has it all. Honestly, we were pleasantly surprised by this movie that neither of us had seen! The action kept us intrigued & the 90s dialogue & jokes kept us laughing. Tune in to find out how this movie is ranked compared to all other Sandra Bullock films!
| 2.5 - Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood | Sandra Bullock | 02 Mar 2021 | 00:42:24 | |
Join us as we discuss the 2002 drama Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood starring Sandra Bullock! This is a deep film with a strong female cast. Heavy themes of family drama, strained relationships, and conflict are relieved by the occasional hilarious one-liner from Dame Maggie Smith. While we dive into heavy topics, we also get into some fun topics such as: NOLA brass band parades, where to get the best bloody mary, and instances in which we'd consider riding in a propeller plane!
| 2.4 - Premonition | Sandra Bullock | 23 Feb 2021 | 00:42:58 | |
We highly PREDICT you will enjoy this episode, discussing the 2007 mystery film Premonition, starring Sandra Bullock! This strange movie is full of twists, a weird crow B plot, and a cemetery lurker. It is redeemed by Sandra Bullock's acting... but just barely. This is one where you might want to skip the watch, but definitely DON'T skip the listen!
| 2.3 - Ocean's 8 | Sandra Bullock | 16 Feb 2021 | 00:32:40 | |
Met Gala, Con Artists, and Diamonds, oh my! Sandra Bullock joins this star studded cast and makes you fall in love with a protagonist girl gang. This con artist will make you want to try a middle part and a smoky eye, but just trust us that you should leave that to the professionals. Ocean's 8 is super entertaining and will probably leave you lingering just a little too long next time you walk past a Cartier window.
| 2.2 - All About Steve | Sandra Bullock | 09 Feb 2021 | 00:37:28 | |

Two upper middle-class couples try too hard to do the polite, politically correct thing by working through a disagreement between their sons in Carnage, ultimately devolving and revealing their true feelings about themselves, their partners, and their kids - with no productive outcome.

| 1.BONUS #4 - The Thin Pink Line | Jennifer Aniston | 23 Oct 2020 | 00:39:46 | |
After searching every corner of the internet (and the world!) and enlisting help from family, friends, and strangers, we FINALLY got our hands on the 1998 mockumentary The Thin Pink Line. We give the details on how we finally found the DVD, break down the odd & pretty offensive plot, discuss the many A-listers featured, and theorize why this has been scrubbed from the internet and the United States entirely.

| 1.FINALE - Life of Crime | Jennifer Aniston | 25 Aug 2020 | 01:05:56 | |
Life of Crime came out of left field to take a top spot on the Jen list. Don't let the 2014 release date fool you, this unique crime film set in the 1970s is full of twists and solid character development with a very satisfying end. While this may not be everyone’s personal favorite, our rating system doesn’t lie, and Jennifer Aniston delivers once again! Help us celebrate our first season of Girl Crush, and be on the lookout for bonus eps soon!
| 1.33 - We're the Millers | Jennifer Aniston | 18 Aug 2020 | 00:52:23 | |
We’re the Millers is a film we watch again and again (and again). Jennifer Aniston is SO convincing of her character pretending to play another character, the soundtrack is great, and you're guaranteed to laugh out loud. Do not recommend driving an RV to Mexico, but if you do - don’t ask Jason Sudeikis to drive.
| 1.32 - The Switch | Jennifer Aniston | 11 Aug 2020 | 00:48:47 | |
One of our favorite duos stars in The Switch, as we narrow in on the final episodes of season one of Girl Crush! Watching Jason Bateman cry makes you question everything you know and love, and Jennifer Aniston serves up a very loveable role. A classic friend-zone-to-baby-daddy plot (is that a classic plot? It should be), this feel good rom com is an absolute must for your regular rotation.
| 1.31 - She's Funny That Way | Jennifer Aniston | 04 Aug 2020 | 00:37:09 | |
Go to the bathroom before this stop on the #JenJourney, because you cannot miss a single second without missing something. Jennifer Aniston plays a pretty hilarious (though questionable?) therapist who lands in a tangled story web amongst stars like Owen Wilson and Kathryn Hahn in the film She’s Funny That Way. If the “they don’t know that we know that they know” Friends episode were a movie, this would be it.
| 1.30 - Picture Perfect | Jennifer Aniston | 28 Jul 2020 | 00:56:13 | |
Join us on our #JenJourney back to the 90s! We review the film #PicturePerfect in this episode. Arguably a caricature of the accepted sexism in the 90s, but still this film is the quintessential rom-com, perfect for any girls night! Jennbifer Aiston's character Kate balances her ambition and integrity which are at odds in this boss babe film. #TBT to 90s hair, fashion, and landlines! Listen to find out how this one stacks up against other Jennifer Aniston movies!
| 4.27 - The Reader | Kate Winslet | 21 Nov 2023 | 00:46:05 | |
Kate Winslet's oscar-winning performance in The Reader was both disturbing and thought provoking. Such complicated feelings present as The Reader ultimately makes you question - at what point does someone not go along with the status quo? Do you speak up to help someone, even when they are guilty of terrible things? Did they age Kate Winslet's feet, or was it a foot double...?
| 1.29 - Office Christmas Party | Jennifer Aniston | 21 Jul 2020 | 00:39:16 | |
It’s time for Christmas on our #JenJourney! A star studded cast goes off the rails with a cocaine cannon and an escort service plot detour in the 2016 film Office a Christmas Party. This is a super entertaining and laugh out loud film (as it should be with approximately 10,000 comedians in the cast). Jennifer Aniston pulls off another horrible-boss-esque character, though with only one hair style. Worth putting on your holiday rotation, especially if you love Jason Bateman and Kate McKinnon as much as we do!
| 1.28 - Office Space | Jennifer Aniston | 14 Jul 2020 | 00:48:47 | |
Our #JenJourney brings us to the 1999 film Office Space. Jennifer Aniston plays Joanna, the love interest of main character Peter. 90s nostalgia, relatable workplace woes, and comedic subplots help to combat a slow-moving film with some plot holes. We may have fallen asleep the first time we watched this...but we do have respect for this cult classic.
| 1.27 - The Good Girl | Jennifer Aniston | 07 Jul 2020 | 00:36:21 | |
Jennifer Aniston’s acting is the highlight of the film The Good Girl, playing a dark and troubled Texas woman. Jake Gyllenhaal plays a man child who writes stories on notebook paper, lives with his parents, and thinks Chuckie Cheese is an appropriate place for an affair meet-up. Attempted murder and Zooey Deschanel also make guest appearances during this stop on the #JenJourney. We are impressed that this film came out during the height of Friends popularity! Plot is a little slow, but give it a watch on a rainy day if it's ever on TV.
