A Very Long Honeymoon
jeudi 29 septembre 2022 • Duration 01:22:21
The extra cool thing is, this isn’t their first time doing a vehicle based, or overlanding trip. In 2015 they flew from Switzerland to the US, rented a Chevy Tahoe, traveling all over the US stopping to sleep in Walmart parking lots. Taking all the lessons learned from their US and even an Australia overland trip, they laid out a plan to return to the US tackling the Pan - AM. How they did it, all the lessons learned, experiences along the way and advice for you, is now live!
This week's guests are on A Very Long Honeymoon overlanding through the Pan-AM in their converted High Top 2014 Troopy. Anouk (a business analyst) and Raphi (a construction supervisor) are super fun to chat with and learn from. Anouk also writes a detailed blog at: www.averylonghoneymoon.com / You can also follow them on instagram under @averylonghoneymoon
Tuk South - Africa in a Tuk Tuk with Support for Africa's Rangers
jeudi 8 septembre 2022 • Duration 01:42:07
This is a fascinating episode loaded with stories from Africa! And better yet, it’s centered on a five man crew of film makers raising awareness and raising money to help support the Wildlife Rangers who are responsible for protecting the entire eco system in the most remote places in Africa.
In this episode you will learn about the five man film crew who make up Tuk South. Their only means of transportation is Princes Buttercup and her unnamed little Tuk Tuk companion. Ivo and Jasper (two brothers) from Kenya Africa are natural born storytellers who are perfect for the job of raise awareness while broadcasting to the world raw day to day realities from the smallest of Africa’s villages.
Be sure to follow them on social media:

Our Request for you to consider is 28 cents. If you have the means to put 28 cents together for 365 days or 182 days, kindly consider doing so. If 24 of us do exactly this, we can collectively provide support for one Ranger for one year. From boots, to food, to the needs of his family.
The Gap Decaders
jeudi 14 avril 2022 • Duration 01:31:18
We found a lot of similarities with this week's guests and enjoyed jumping back to Overlanding in Europe. Phil and Izzy spent years in the normal rat-race of life, pursuing careers and financial stability. They’ve renovated properties in their spare time, while dreaming of a different way of life. In 2018, they said goodbye to their old lives, making their dreams of full time travel a reality. They sold their house and most of their stuff, quit their jobs and bought a motorhome to road trip Europe.
Although they thought they knew they might need to return to ‘real life’ after a couple of years, it was at 6 months in they realized that going back to their old lives was not what they wanted. In 2021, they swapped their motorhome for a proper overland truck so they could travel further off the paved roads and explore more.
Phil is ex-military with bags of common sense and a real can-do attitude. He’s happiest when being active and making new friends (he’s Irish!).
Izzy is a multi-tasker and works well under pressure. She loves reading, learning new things, chocolate and a glass of red.

NW Overland Rally 2018
jeudi 5 juillet 2018 • Duration 39:39
NW Overland Rally in Plain, WA. USA
If you've not heard, overlanding is growing with significant popularity. Why? Well in our opinion; simple. Adventure, the outdoors, travel and meeting the most warm hearted people around the globe is everything the sole is yearning for. We attended the NW Overland Rally and could not have been more grateful, humbled and flat out felt welcomed. From the few "celebrities" (absolutely normal awesome people) who blew the doors open on the concept of overlanding, to amazing people with either zero, or several years of experience. We found all of them open to chat with us with warm smiles, open hearts and willing to share their stories on the GHT Overland Podcast.
This episode is a re-cap of our experience at the rally, with about a 20 min. reel of the attending vendors telling you who they are and what they offer. Interestingly we heard an attendee ask Clay from XOverland if he felt the industry was becoming too commercialized. You may or may not feel one way or another, we see that as a personal opinion. Some will say yes, and corporate sponsorships or involvement is not welcome. We say, cool. Keep it simple and go have an amazing time. Our take is that we appreciate and enjoy the innovations, comfort, and gear that make our adventures fun, relaxed and documented. At the end of the day the Vagabroads said it best; You do you :)
Enjoy!
Show Notes & Links
The following are the names and links in alphabetical order for the vendors attending the rally. We hope you enjoy their 30 second (+/-) personal introductions to you.

YetiAmbo Part 2
jeudi 28 juin 2018 • Duration 44:25
Travis Rabenberg with YetiAmbo first traveled the world on a motorcycle; he then completed a 27,000 mile overland trip from Michigan to Chile. Travis sold his 2001 E350 Sportsmobile before leaving Chile and flew back to Michigan to start his next conversion, a 2008 Duramax 4x4 ambulance. He then converted his ambulance in 90 days for his Alaska trip; included a DRZ 400 dirt bike on the back to enjoy his adventures, knowing he’d finish-up any remaining details along the way. Travis plans to enjoy plenty of kiteboarding, rock climbing, stand up paddle boarding, and spear fishing along the way.
There’s a lot to learn from this episode as Travis walks us through his philosophy of preparing and departing for an overland trip. He also provides plenty of tips for the digital nomad working on the road, along with a plethora of added details when building out an overland rig. What details and modifications make a big difference, and why perfecting each detail can hijack your overlanding adventures longer than necessary.
As an extra reference, Travis also recommended having Medical Evacuation insurance. Do your own research, however companies like Global Rescue, MedjetAssist and GEOS are well established companies and worth a strong consideration. The company Travis recommends is MedjetAssist, he also carries insurance with his SPOT satellite messenger.
Be sure to check out Travis’s book Party Like a Billionaire, and his upcoming book Vanlife as a Digital Nomad

They expect to be on the road for 18 months before heading back to the UK to visit family and friends, service their trucks and head for Africa for a two year overland trip.
