This week we get into the swing of things… Sex. We’re talking about sex. Our guest this week isn’t in the studio to protect the innocent (or not so innocent!). One of dear readers wrote in with a collection of tales (and fails) on what it’s like stepping into the swinging community. Liz reads out these stories in typical dramatic fashion, with Tom and (bonus!) producer Zane on mic to react and ask all the questions. Hosted on Acast. From 80’s power ballads to jazz duets, Smith’s hook-driven songs tell the true story of a doomed romance while exploring themes of trauma and the cycle of abuse. “‘Slow Burn’ is not just something to listen to and enjoy, it is an album to experience” – Emily Hollitt and Malina Claire, Good Call Live “A dynamic creator with an aptitude for traversing genres and layering meaning in poetic-like prose” – Mimm, Music Is My Muse Want to get a peak of what you’re in for? Just look for ‘Slow Burn’ by Your Man Alex Smith on Spotify today! Brisbane-based musician Your Man Alex Smith sets out to find the perfect blend of musical theatre and rock. Using catchy hooks to sneak contemplative lyrics to the listener, Alex’s genre-hopping theatrical rock is a story-driven experience with a lot of heart. | Matthew and the Boyfriend Role | 08 Jun 2022 | 00:58:52
It sure is swell to have long-time friend of the show Matty tell his tale of misjudged romance. Matthew joins us this week to bravely share the story of his first serious relationship. A movie geek since birth, Matthew grew up entranced by film and the glossy, epic tales of soaring romance that swooned and swash-buckled their way across the silver screen. Yet when this leading man eventually conceded to romance in the harsh light of real-life he starts to learn that carrying Hollywood's idealised version of love with you, and particularly into a relationship, may just trip you up. On the show this week we hear that old diddling-the-maid-tale which includes proof via a theme park, we hear the tale of a bloke who seems to only date people who have English as a second language, and a well-meaning kid gets his heart torn in half like the gifted tickets he purchased - but then we end on a couple of lovely, wholesome moments to make it all worthwhile! | Lucy and the Dangerous Escalation | 16 Feb 2022 | 01:17:13
When Lucy fell in love and was proposed to, she said yes because, well… that was what we were supposed to do, right? But things didn’t stay rosy for long. What started with random jealousy and small disparaging remarks from her husband escalated to much more sinister acts of coercive control and abuse that left Lucy losing her sense of self and fearing for her life. When someone has spent nearly two decades convincing you that you’re the problem, and there’s two children in the mix, escape doesn’t seem like an option. A NOTE FROM LIZ: This was a really heavy episode for everyone in the studio and I don’t feel like I adequately expressed myself in the “lessons learnt” section because my mind was still reeling. Now I’ve had time to reflect, I would like to tell anyone out there that a GOOD PERSON will never blame you for their lack of ability to control their behavior. When someone is abusive to you, it is not your fault. I want to tell anyone out there who recognizes themselves anywhere in this story to click on the links below or talk to someone, anyone, about what you’re going through. There is help, there is life after abuse, there is a way out. If you or someone you know is experiencing any form of abuse or violence in Australia, please click on the links below for more information or help. | Liz and the Swayze Phase | 02 Feb 2022 | 00:51:36
Ghosts’ own Liz Best takes the hot seat this week for another tale from her hot mess ex vault. This week it’s all about that time she dated a Patrick Swayze doppelgänger who definitely left baby in the corner. Elizabeth is the host of Ghosts of Boyfriends Past and Castology podcasts, both on the That's Not Canon Network. A journalist and former relationships columnist, Liz has made a career out of getting her ass kicked by love, and going on shit dates. In her spare time she's an actor, because working some emotional stuff out on stage is super cathartic. You can also hear her voice actor stylings in the Mistholme Museum of Mystery Morbidity and Mortality as the Head of Restoration. https://thatsnotcanon.com/castology https://thatsnotcanon.com/themistholmemuseum https://www.mamamia.com.au/author/elizabethbest/ Hosted on Acast.
