Our Miss Brooks, Vol. 1 - CBS Radio

https://hotaudiobook.com/free
Title: Our Miss Brooks, Vol. 1
Author: CBS Radio
Narrator: A Full Cast, Eve Arden, Gale Gordon
Format: Unabridged
Length: 5:54:08
Language: English
Release date: 09-01-2014
Publisher: Blackstone Audiobooks
Genres: Non-Fiction, Art & Music
Summary:
Our Miss Brooks was a highly popular radio sitcom that was eventually adapted for both television and film. It starred Hollywood film and New York stage veteran Eve Arden, who specialized in playing the wisecracking friend. She often did it better than anyone else, receiving an Oscar nomination for the 1945 film Mildred Pierce. Since her skill with the wicked one-liner was beginning to lead to typecasting, Arden signed on for the lead in radio's Our Miss Brooks to find a new image. The series centers on Connie Brooks, a sharp-witted, lovable English teacher at fictional Madison High School. Between gentle wisecracks, Miss Brooks dotes on nerdish student Walter Denton, played by Richard Crenna, and frequently locks horns with crusty, cranky principal Osgood Conklin, played by Gale Gordon. Many plot lines revolve around Miss Brooks' longing for Philip Boynton, the school's bashful biology teacher. The radio series lasted until 1957, having already made a successful jump to television in 1952 where Arden won a Primetime Emmy for Best Female Star in a Regular Series. Episodes include 'Snap Magazine's Model American Teacher'; 'Stretch Snodgrass and the English Exam'; 'Peanuts, the Great Dane'; 'Arguments, Arguments'; 'Christmas in July'; 'Mrs. Davis' Pensacola Popovers'; 'Miss Brooks Takes the Blame'; 'Chaperone for the Cereal Bowl Game'; 'Connie's Letter to 'Sandy Clawsss''; 'Babysitting for New Year's Eve'; 'Professorship at State U'; and 'Making Dinner for Mr. Boynton.'

Title: Galton Case: A Lew Archer Novel
Author: Ross MacDonald
Narrator: Grover Gardner
Format: Unabridged
Length: 6:45:22
Language: English
Release date: 06-16-2010
Publisher: Blackstone Audiobooks
Genres: Mystery, Thriller & Horror, Suspense, Detective Stories
Summary:
Almost twenty years have passed since Anthony Galton disappeared, along with a suspiciously streetwise bride and several thousand dollars of his family’s fortune. Now Anthony’s aging and very rich mother wants him back and has hired Lew Archer to find him. What turns up is a headless skeleton, a boy who claims to be Galton’s son, and a con game whose stakes are so high that someone is still willing to kill for them. In the character of Lew Archer, Ross Macdonald redefined the private eye as a roving conscience who walks the treacherous frontier between criminal guilt and human sin—and in so doing, gave the American crime novel a psychological depth and moral complexity that his predecessors had only hinted at. Deliciously devious and tersely poetic, The Galton Case displays Ross Macdonald at the pinnacle of his form.

Narrator: Simon Vance
Format: Unabridged
Length: 8:47:28
Language: English
Release date: 06-14-2010
Publisher: Blackstone Audiobooks
Genres: History, Africa, Military
Summary:
In the dark and uncertain days of 1941 and 1942, when Rommel's tanks were sweeping toward Suez, a handful of daring raiders were making history for the Allies. They operated deep behind the German lines, often driving hundreds of miles through the deserts of North Africa. They hid by day and struck by night, destroying aircraft, blowing up ammunition dumps, derailing trains, and killing many times their own number. These were the SAS—Stirling's desert raiders, the brainchild of a deceptively mild-mannered man with a brilliant idea. Small teams of resourceful, highly trained men would penetrate beyond the front lines of the opposing armies and wreak havoc where the Germans least expected it. The Phantom Major is the classic account of these desert raids, an amazing tale of courage, impudence, and daring, packed with action and high adventure. An intimate record based on eyewitness accounts, this book still stands as the definitive history of the early years of the SAS.
