Haunted Halloween Plague Episode with Special Guest, Dr. Eric Lofgren!
jeudi 31 octobre 2024 • Duration 01:38:48
On this month's episode we are joined by special guest host, epidemiologist and wargamer, Dr. Eric Lofgren! Eric was a presenter at the first ever Warhammer academic conference and he was kind enough to share his time with us discussing his presentation and talking about what that experience was like. His presentations were focused on Horus Heresy specific events and was a fascinating guest. You also get to hear three grown men excitedly discuss their favorite diseases. Somehow, we went an entire episode with a real life plague doctor and didn't make a single Nurgle reference! Eric stayed with us to discuss the upcoming Dark Mechanicum releases, shared some pro-tips on playing Imperial Fists as a Heresy army, and took part in our closing listener Q&A.
Check out Eric's blog at Variance Hammer and follow him on Bluesky.
Happy Halloween, don't die of plague!

Mechanicumania with Bonus Cat Fight Content
lundi 30 septembre 2024 • Duration
Our September podcast arrives just under the wire! Heresy news is ramping up so we had lots to talk about starting with the return of Heresy Thursdays to Warhammer Community's site, the announcement of Mechanicum for Legions Imperialis, the teased Siege of Terra animation coming to Warhammer+, Space Marine 2, an academic conference on Warhammer, and finally the Nova Open Heresy "roadmap", such as it was. Simon talks Mechanicum hobbying, and then dives into the recently released supplement, The Martian Civil War but is interrupted by the least sexy cat fight imaginable. We conclude with our usual listener Q&A!

Ho Ho Heresy
dimanche 31 décembre 2023 • Duration 01:30:13
A Very Special Holiday episode! Simon and Steve kick things off by talking about what they got for Christmas and then segue into discussion of the long awaited return of epic.in Legions Imperialis. Simon's finished painting his box set and they talk about first impressions of the rules, models, and what might come next. Simon's playing Emperor's Children and Cthonian Headhuners, and Steve will be doing his beloved Night Lords before long. Speculating on the future of the Heresy setting results in Simon and Steve wish listing things they'd like to see about the Scouring in novels and games. Next up is some speculation on the recent Heresy teases, apparently for a plastic Astartes command squad and more excitingly, if not totally surprisingly, plastic Solar Auxilia! Simon discusses his holiday season Heresy campaign and impending winter mega-battle for his gaming club and then we wrap things up with a little mail call and a Very Special Announcement...

Sponging that Terrain: Legions Imperialis is almost here!
mercredi 22 novembre 2023 • Duration 01:43:11
Our November episode is here and starts with a celebration of the imminent release of Legions Imperialis. If by "celebration" we mean "Simon complains about the new GW webstore" but after a few minutes of that we do talk rather excitedly about the finally imminent release of this highly anticipated game! We move on to discussion of the upcoming plastic MkVI Assault Marines before taking a look at the Exemplary Battles book released earlier this fall. We then come perilously close to turning this into a Warhammer: The Old World podcast before wrapping it up with our most important mail call question ever and conclude with our very first post-credits scene launching the expanded Galaxy in Flames Universe.

Spooky October Episode: Haunted by our first guest host, Dave Taylor!
vendredi 13 octobre 2023 • Duration 02:18:17
Our October episode is here and is haunted by our first ever guest-host, Dave Taylor! Dave is a good friend of ours whom you may know from his company Dave Taylor Miniatures and as the co-host of Build Paint Play – A Podcast about Tabletop Gaming, or his previous work as editor-in-chief of White Dwarf Magazine and then Wargames Illustrated. Dave's been a serious Horus Heresy enthusiast for years and we were thrilled to have him take part.
We chat a little about what everyone's been up to, notably Dave's time at the NOVA Open and judging the Capital Palette painting competition. We talk about scale modeling vs miniatures painting hobbying and of course, we continue to speculate about Legions Imperialis and its still unknown release date. While talking all things Epic, we drool over Broncofish's GrimDark Terrain STLs, perfect for both Titanicus and Legions Imperialis whenever it may arrive. Moving on, we talk about the recently released Exemplary Battles PDF, The Battle for Felweather Keep with its rules for corrupted knights (none of us have fully read them but that doesn't stop us from talking!) and then drift into some discussion of our observations of competitive play in games of Horus Heresy. Naturally, we indulge in some obligatory discussion of Warhammer: The Old World with Steve before talking about the imminently releasing Mk III armor kits and Deredeo Dreadnought in plastic! We chat a little about the recently revealed resin Fulgrim model and the book in which he will be included before we get into the meat of our episode; planning and painting a Horus Heresy army the Dave Taylor way.
Dave is starting to plan a companion volume to his first published book, Armies & Legions & Hordes, and he's been giving thought to a new rubric by which to plan your themes and schemes around whether they are "Obvious, Adjacent, or Fringe." We talk about this approach and how to make an army feel like its yours from the ground up.
Finally, we conclude with some mail call. As always, we want to hear from you for next episode's mail call, so find us on Facebook to ask!

The Only Heresy Podcast Happy That Legions Imperialis Has Been Delayed
Season 1 · Episode 3
mercredi 6 septembre 2023 • Duration 01:26:15
This time hosts Steve and Simon are here to talk Heresy novels (The Outcast Dead? Underrated says Simon). Controversially, both Steve and Simon are thrilled that Legions Imperialis is delayed and discuss the community reaction to scale changes, rules, the madness of rewriting games that have not yet been released, and the (probable) realities of publishing and production delays. Next up, we talked about the latest Exemplary Battles PDF release, The Depths of Tredecimmia and all that sweet Daemon Engine action while Simon confuses the names of the various murder machines. Steve enthusiastically speculates about the upcoming Joytoy action figures releases for Horus Heresy and Simon then gets into some details about the Getting Started series Night Lords blog we released last week. Finally, we take a few listener questions in our latest mail call.

CLICKBAIT TITLE ABOUT HORUS HERESY BEING DEAD??? MASH THAT LIKE AND SUB BUTTON
lundi 14 août 2023 • Duration 01:48:46
Our second episode is here! This month Steve and Simon explore the question, “Is Horus Heresy dead?” The answer is “lol no,” but they have more to say than that. They also talk about Simon’s last game of ‘Heresy, using some of the Siege of Cthonia material for his Sons of Horus, speculated a whole lot on the upcoming launch of Legions Imperialis. Next, Galaxy in Flames is proud to announce the launch of yet another blog! Our first post is the first in an ongoing series of blogs focused on getting started in Horus Heresy using the Age of Darkness box set as a starting point with an emphasis on commonly available additional models. This first blog focuses on the Sons of Horus with a 2,000 point Pride of the Legion list! Simon and Steve then take a break from the 31st millennia to talk 40k and their experiences with the newly launched 10th edition before wrapping up the episode with Galaxy in Flames’ very first listener mail call!

Postcards from the Siege of Cthonia
vendredi 23 juin 2023 • Duration 01:46:51
Welcome to the first episode of Galaxy in Flames: A Horus Heresy fan podcast! Join hosts Simon Berman and Steve Saunders as they talk all things 30k including the Horus Heresy miniatures wargame, Heresy novels, and even Adeptus Titanicus. In this first episode they fail to adequately answer the question "why does the world need another Heresy podcast hosted by two middle aged white guys" but do discuss the newly released supplement, "The Siege of Cthonia" at length! We also give our hobby bonafides, talk about the armies we're working on (Sons of Horus/Dark Angels/Legio Fureans for Simon, Night Lords for Steve (and maybe also Simon)).
We'll be back next month to talk about getting started in Heresy and probably unavoidably talking more about the launch of 10th edition 40k.

Fake Plastic Tech Thralls
jeudi 29 août 2024 • Duration 01:28:41
Our August episode is here, in which Simon talks about the various games of Heresy he played, the new friends he made along the way (some of them being plague toads) as well as the simple campaign he took part in out of his favorite game shop, Terracrux in Tacoma, WA. We talked over the release of Legions Imperialis: The Devastation of Tallarn, and then got into the nitty gritty of assembling plastic Mechanicum. As usual, we close with listener Q&A concluding with an intimate consideration of the primarchs.

Hot Times, Summer in the Civitas Imperialis
mercredi 31 juillet 2024 • Duration 01:11:35
It's a slow month for Heresy news but between Steve's opinions on politics, volcano discussion, and Simon getting dwarf pilled for the Old World, we did manage to discuss Heresy campaign gaming, the upcoming Mechanicum releases, and the Warhammer Tacoma Open before closing up with listener questions!
