| Talks! Episode 75 - Eric and Ernest from Imvibes Podcast | 04 Apr 2023 | 00:43:15 | |
This week's episode is another crossover episode. Much like GGHT73 with The Rooster and Queen City Rejects, part one of this episode can be heard on another podcast! Before we recorded this episode I was the guest on Imvibes Podcast season 4 episode 3 (titled The Crossover), so go listen to that one before or after mine! This week, me and my guests are Eric Milatz and Ernest Stevenson talk about how their podcast recently lost some members, their beginnings in music (including some Polka talk!), where the podcast is heading next, and we give a lot of love to Tommy's Pub, who was gracious enough to host us for the evening. And since QCR is along for the ride on this one, we also talk about how this will be their final show! This one is filled with laughs and plenty of tangents, but we always get back to the subjects at hand!

| Talks! Episode 70 - Luke Edwards Returns! | 23 Jan 2023 | 00:59:16 | |
New year, new format? Sort of! Gabba Gabba Huh? is back with a tighter, more focused episode for your listening pleasure! This doesn't mean that the longer, artist's journey, style episodes are done, but expect a good mix of the two as I intend to bring you more consistent content for your ears this year! This week, I once again visit with Luke Edwards at his home in Shelby, NC to catch up on what's been going on with his Motörhead tribute band, Killed By Death. We also talk about the recent show he played with his former Animal Bag bandmate, Otis Hughes, about his town's relationship (or lack of) with heavier music, and round it out by talking about how a couple of old timers like us just have an addiction for this stuff!
| Talks! Episode 69 - Ahvid Harris | 30 Nov 2022 | 01:07:52 | |
Gabba Gabba Huh? is back?! Yes! At least this week! After this, it may (or may not) be next year before I get the ball really rolling again. Hear a little bit about that up front, but I was having microphone issues (causing some audio issues throughout), so some of what I had to say never made it, but you'll get the idea! This week's guest is Ahvid Harris, a local self-described impressionist, with poetry being the main subject. A little bit of a departure, but still local, still the arts, and still DIY. What you'll get here is two recent friends getting a chance to know each other a little bit more and talk about how our crafts are actually quite similar. Stick around through the sometimes crummy audio to hear some wonderfully recited poetry (luckily my audio issues not present during these segments), and get to know a little bit about the local poetry scene!
| Radio - Episode 33 | 12 Oct 2022 | 00:31:44 | |
Hey! Gabba Gabba Huh? Radio is back! While I'd love to be bringing you a Talks! episode this week, I've been super busy as of late. Listen to this episode to hear why and to hear about what to expect in the future. Also, listen to all the great songs and support all these wonderful bands!
| Talks! Episode 68 - The Bowman Brothers Return! | 20 Jul 2022 | 02:03:12 | |
This week I got my friends Jon and Jordan Bowman to come over and talk about what Warboys US are up to, and what they're up to in general. We kind of go all over the place as this one was just sort of thrown together, and since their stories have already been told, we had plenty of wiggle room for what we could talk about! Expect some general musician talk, peppered with stories about turning teacher's yards into golf courses, making Dick Tracy videos at Disney World, and all kinds of other stuff!
| Talks! Episode 67 - World Sauntering Day | 06 Jul 2022 | 01:53:31 | |
This week I had my friends James Baker and Josh Featherstone come over to GGH studios to talk about their band, World Sauntering Day! In addition to talking about their musical careers (though we kinda skipped over Josh's nu metal band when the recorder stopped on us for a minute and we never really picked it back up properly), we also talk about their recording process, their upcoming show at Cavendish Brewery in Gastonia, NC (July 9, 7p), whether or not to practice on your own, Def Leppard, and they keep finding ways to bring it back around to my current and previous projects so you get to learn more about me as well... all this and so much more as this one is filled with tangents!
| Talks! Episode 66 - Eddie Ford (Self-Made Monsters) | 22 Jun 2022 | 01:53:36 | |

In addition to talking about their upcoming record, we also talked about his time playing in bands such as Maniac Spider Trash, Frankenstein Drag Queens from Planet 13, and Ubangi Stomp, working at Repo Cheapo, having a song covered by local legends, getting wasted and then getting sober, and so much more!
| Talks! Episode 65 - True Lilith | 08 Jun 2022 | 00:33:43 | |
Back from a previous appearance at the beginning of the pandemic, True Lilith has a new line up and some new music! Through a little bit of technical difficulties, GGHT was back on Skype for a quick, mid-week interview and a quick turnaround podcast! Listen as we talk about musical beginnings, ghostly new singles, and what GGH (and Van Huskins?) is up to these days in this easy to digest episode!
| Talks! Episode 64 - Otis Hughes (Animal Bag/M4 Messenger/The Mystery Plan/Skynoceros) | 20 May 2022 | 02:03:24 | |
This week I took a trip for coffee and then sat down with Otis Hughes to talk about his history playing in such bands as Animal Bag, M4 Messenger, Poor Blue, Skynoceros, The Mystery Plan, Gideon Smith & The Dixie Damned, Overlord, and more, as well as a new, not-yet-named band to debut soon! We talk a lot about being in LA at the end of the eighties, how sometimes a recording deal ends because of new bosses, the influence of Spinal Tap, the loss of bandmates, and paying tribute to them by still playing the songs from time to time. This is part two of my Animal Bag series, so look for part three later in the summer when I get Luke and Otis together as they prepare for an upcoming acoustic Animal Bag (or "Half Bag") show in Shelby!
| Talks! Episode 63 - Mercury Dimes | 05 May 2022 | 01:53:07 | |
This week I drove out to the cut to interview Laura, Nathan, and Wes of Mercury Dimes! Surrounded by their beautiful farm, along with a barn full of roosters, we sat on their porch and talked about everything from free shows, otc drugs, a band called MILF, the joys of seltzer water, making noise, and of course we talked about their musical journey to becoming Mercury Dimes. We get some rain on the tin roof, and there was some important stuff that I had to keep in, but it only lasts for a few minutes before we break and come back to less background noise! Do you expect anything else from a punk rock, DIY podcast?!
| Talks! Episode 62 - Chuck Garrison (Pipe, Zen Frisbee, Small, Evil Wiener, Superchunk) | 20 Apr 2022 | 01:10:50 | |
This week I sat down with Chuck Garrison on the roof of his practice building, with carpenter bees buzzing, and kids playing in the background. In addition to his time in Pipe, Zen Frisbee, Small, Evil Wiener, The Bad Checks, and Superchunk, we also talk about a lot of Chapel Hill music scene history, why Charlotte has never seen the success of the triangle scene, and how my old band once payed tribute to one of his. After we packed up, Chuck remembered some things he forgot to talk about, so some sort of part two is already in discussion!
| Radio - Episode 32 | 13 Apr 2022 | 00:34:55 | |
This week, I had an interview fall through, so what better time to bring back GGH Radio?!
| Talks! Episode 61 - Kevin Gavagan (My So-Called Band/The Rogue Nations/Plastic Flamingos) | 31 Mar 2022 | 01:05:42 | |
This week I spoke via Skype with Kevin Gavagan, drummer for such bands as My So-Called Band, The Rogue Nations, and currently, Plastic Flamingos! In addition to his musical journey, we talk about everything from all ages shows, to physical media/merch, reminisce about Chris Piegler, and talk a little bit about a famous former bandmate (Oscar Isaac?!?). Be sure to check out Plastic Flamingos new ep which drops Friday, April 1!
| Talks! Episode 60 - Ryan McGinnis Returns! Again! | 16 Mar 2022 | 01:31:49 | |
This week I had a conversation with my friend, Ryan McGinnis! The last time he was on was to talk about and promote his debut novel, Tears of the Dragon. When I heard that he was already releasing the follow up to that awesome first novel, I had to have him on again! We talk about a little bit of everything from what's going on with GGH, covid, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, The Milestone Club, Tremont Music Hall, My So-Called Band, and of course we talk about his first book, his new book, The Osiris Initiative, and his new novella, as well as those in the works! This was supposed to be a short, thirty minute episode, but it all worked, so you get to hear two old friends get nerdy and talk old times for an hour and a half! Look for more episodes like this in the future as it's an easy way to fill in some of the gaps I might have this year and mix things up a bit!
| Talks! Episode 59 - Robert Everett (Failure/Furys/Carolina Shitkickers) | 03 Mar 2022 | 01:39:59 | |
Back again, after an extended break, and this week I sat down with Robert Everett, owner of Spooky's Records and Collectibles in Gastonia, NC! In addition to currently owning and operating his own record store, Robert has also played in local bands, worked for Repo Records in the 90's, spent some time being guitar tech for Whiskeytown, worked as a soundman for multiple local bands, spent 30 years as a union stagehand for major tours, and played bass on the very last GG Allin recording. We talk about all of that and so much more on the first new episode in over three months! (trust me... I've been busy. You'll hear about all that and the future of GGH soon!)
| Talks! Episode 58 - Death of August | 29 Dec 2021 | 01:45:12 | |
This week I met up with Helena, Amirah, Paul, and Jason of the band, Death of August, at Tommy's Pub to talk about their new album, Fear of the Unknown, how they came together as a band, recording "puzzle pieces", jam nights at Guitar Center, the support of family, and much more! This one was a challenge due to the background noise, but in the end it all came out pretty good, all things considered!
| Talks! Episode 57 - Luke Edwards (Animal Bag/Tater/Grassabillies) | 09 Dec 2021 | 02:16:11 | |
This week, I finally sat down with Luke Edwards, from such bands as Animal Bag, Tater, Grassabillies, and currently playing in Dangerous Ways and a new Motörhead tribute band, called Killed By Death! This episode is essential listening for anyone who ever dreamed of signing a record deal, being on MTV, or just living as a working musician, as Luke has had experience in all those areas. Anyone from Cleveland County will appreciate all the local references, as we take a walk down memory lane of Shelby in the eighties. I've known of Luke since I was a teenager when he worked at Endless Summer at the Cleveland Mall in Shelby, and I vividly remember coming home from school one day and seeing Animal Bag's video for Everybody on MTV and immediately calling my best friends to tell them about it, so this episode is one I've been wanting to do for a while!
| Talks! Episode 56 - GGH Goes to the Movies! with John Amplas | 26 Nov 2021 | 01:37:36 | |
This week, GGH ventures into new territory with the first, non-music and non-Carolinas related episode! We'll call this one, Gabba Gabba Huh? Goes to the Movies, and it features John Amplas, from such movies as Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, Creepshow, and as the titular star of George Romero's Martin! We talk about everything from how he got into acting, to how he came to work with George Romero, his thirty six years of teaching, and the wonderful world of fans and conventions. Also along to help with the interview is my friend Jessica, who introduced me to John recently! This is a really great episode, and there will be more like it in the future.
| Talks! Episode 55 - Malcolm Tent (Trash American Style/TPOS/ANTiSEEN) | 17 Nov 2021 | 02:05:53 | |
This week I talk to legendary record seller, DIY label runner, and rock and roller Malcolm Tent! In addition to his musical journey, we also talk quite a bit about running a record store and a DIY record label, falling in love with rock and roll, selling records from your collection, and encounters with famous customers! Russ Ward is along for the ride and brings a couple of great stories out of Malcolm! We start this one talking about records, and when we finally sit down for the interview we just keep on talking records, so you know this one might be my favorite episode yet! Songs for GGHT55: ANTiSEEN - Death Train Comin' (Live from Quarantine 2)

| Talks! Episode 54 - Leaving Echoes | 20 Oct 2021 | 01:49:39 | |
This week I sat down with Scott Robbins and Bethany Sietsma from Leaving Echoes (Central NC, Statesville/Winston Salem area) to talk about their new album, Jump In, which was over twenty five years in the making. In addition to their long history, we also talk about the Heart of Rock and Roll, "foster venues", high school go-go dancers, getting a little help from your friends, and where the future is taking them (including maybe still dipping into the past every now and then). This one is packed with fun stories, but there are also some great things that hit the cutting room floor in the effort to keep this thing under two hours, (Patreon subscribers can hear them soon)! Please ignore the intermittent cell phone interference... I keep mine away from the recorder, but always forget to tell my guests to do the same! https://www.facebook.com/leavingechoesband Songs for GGHT54: Leaving Echoes - These Lines
| Talks! Episode 53 - John Rash - Southern Punk Archive/Crimson Spectre | 06 Oct 2021 | 01:18:34 | |
This week I talk to John Rash of Southern Punk Archive, via skype, about his previous bands Heebie Geebies, and Crimson Spectre, his zine, Slave, his documentary, Negro Terror, and his current project documenting southern punk rock, which you know is a subject near and dear to my heart! We also talk about Flipside customer service, talking to Mike Watt, and the pathway to punk rock and how it was often steered by skateboarding, zines, and sometimes the answering machine at the Milestone. We pack a lot of stories and information into a shorter episode to give y'all a little bit of a break!

| Talks! Episode 52 - Hey Revolver | 29 Sep 2021 | 01:58:26 | |
This week I sat down with Winston Salem band, Hey Revolver, for a delicious lunch of lasagna thanks to Jon's wife (and garlic bread, thanks to Jon and Harris Teeter), and of course the story of how they became a band (don't worry, we ate prior to recording, not while). In addition to their individual stories, we also talk about stealing music, Prince as a prom date, the importance of not being a douchebag if you play mandolin, North Carolina Underground podcast, feeding the hungry, and more! We also get into how being punk and being a pastor can coexist and how they're really not that much different. I must note, I was really impressed with how much chemistry this band has for the short amount of time they've known each other, and how it makes for a really fun listen... enjoy! https://www.facebook.com/HeyRevolverNC/ https://www.facebook.com/NCarolinaUnderground/ https://www.facebook.com/oldguypunk/ Songs: Man with Gun - Blank Face
| Talks! Episode 51 - It's a Clip Show! | 15 Sep 2021 | 00:42:44 | |
So I told you if I couldn't line up an episode, I'd be back with something... well that something is a clip show! And not just any clip show, this is stuff that was cut from the main episodes, along with songs that weren't played on those episodes. If you're a patreon supporter, you've probably heard these clips, but if not, this is an example of what you're missing out on! If you've missed out on any of these episodes, find them wherever you listen to podcasts (like this one)! | Talks! Episode 50 - Jason Broadwater (Tonka, Eddy, Skydriver, The Local Pickup) | 25 Aug 2021 | 02:00:55
This week I sat down with Jason Broadwater at Rock Hill Brewing Company to talk about his history playing in such bands as Tonka, Eddy, Cannons, and more, including his current project, Skydriver! Just a quick heads up, there's a decent amount of background noise due to our location, but it never overtakes our conversation! As a matter of fact, have fun playing name that tune with the background music you can hear sporadically throughout! In addition to his history in music, and his music related endeavors, RevenFlo, The Local Pickup, and (not necessarily music related) podcast Old Town, New World, we also talk a lot about DIY and how punk rock shaped the people we became, This episode is super important to me because of that and also because Tonka was a huge inspiration, and Jason was only 14 at the time! Hear how that all unfolds and so much more in this episode that is definitely a must listen to for any "local" musician, practicing or not. https://www.facebook.com/skydriver.band https://oldfighter.bandcamp.com/ https://revenflo.com/ https://thelocalpickup.com/ Gabba Gabba Huh? https://linktr.ee/gabbagabbahuh This episode is brought to you by Hobo Wolfman Records (use code GABBAGABBA at checkout for 30% off!): https://www.hobowolfmanrecords.com/ Songs for GGHT50:

| Talks! Episode 48 - Steve Munsell (Üblisch/Contagious Graphics) | 04 Aug 2021 | 02:04:51 | |
This week, I spoke to Steve Munsell, via Skype, all the way from Arizona! While we, of course, talked about Contagious Graphics and how it got started, we also talked about his two bands (Unvoiced and Üblisch), his time traveling with touring bands, his current money making hobby with model accessories, and why he left not only Contagious Graphics, but also Charlotte (and never looked back). Lots of names dropped in this one, including a ton of bands, as Steve is one well connected dude! https://www.facebook.com/Ublisch-1731178770483122 http://valuegeardetails.com/ Songs for GGHT48:
| Talks! Episode 47 - Jordan Bowman (SFTM/The Dead Kings/Warboys US) | 29 Jul 2021 | 02:17:38 | |
This week I sat down with Jordan Bowman, and his brother Jon (y'all should know him by now!) to talk about Jordan's musical journey. By having Jon along, it's also a little bit of a window into brothers playing music together (something that's quite common as you'll learn through this episode). There's a lot more to come from this episode through patreon (I owe patreon about three episodes worth... it's coming!)... this seemed like a good stopping point so I could get something out there, but trust me when I say there's more good stuff that I haven't even gotten around to editing yet! It's possible you may get a point five outta this, but I ain't promising anything beyond the patreon content!
