Beers were drank, and spilled, in this episode of firsts... first multi-person zoom interview, first third time guest, and first fully naked guest?! It happens! Also, rare double stinger warning!

This week, I talk with Chloe, Music, and Shepherd of the band, True Lilith, via webcam... with the usual pesky, but tolerable audio issues that unfortunately come along with the technology. We talk all about their new single, "Trash", about their history as a band, a previous project they were all involved in, some unlikely influences, and they try to start a video game beef with another local band. You don't want to miss this fun episode, or this extremely talented new band!

On this episode, Patrick North of Longhost Odds returns to talk about his band's new song, Easy, and what they've been up to. Patrick asks me a few questions too, so you can hear about some things I've been up to as well!
| Talks! Release Series 2: Wilma, "Rot" (single) | 17 Apr 2020 | 00:44:19 | |
Covid-19 isn't slowing down Charlotte music, with new singles from Wilma, Warboys U.S., and the streaming debut of the new Van Huskins EP this week, and on this second bonus episode of the week (go check out, GGHT 11 with Mike Benson of Trash Room, and the first bonus episode with Jon Bowman of Warboys, both released this week), I talk with brothers, Matthew and Viky Leone, of the band Wilma! They just released a new single today, but here you can hear the story behind the band and also catch this rad new song here. Be sure to save it on Spotify, follow Wilma, and add the song to playlists as this helps the band extend their reach!
| Talks! Release Series 1: Warboys US, "A Fire in the Void" | 16 Apr 2020 | 00:42:33 | |
I talk with Jon Bowman over the phone, while he's outside getting some exercise, because WHAT THE HELL ELSE ARE WE SUPPOSED TO DO RIGHT NOW?!?! Uh... sorry. Hear the story behind the new song, and more about the goings on with Warboys US since Jon originally appeared on Episode 7!
| Talks! Episode 11 - Mike Benson (one3four, Trash Room) | 15 Apr 2020 | 01:26:15 | |
On this week's episode, I Skyped with Mike Benson of Trash Room. We talk a little bit about the world today (more to come in bonus clips for patreon), but mostly keep the talk to music. I've known Mike for 27 years now, so we have a lot of history and continue to make more (you know... when we can).
| Radio Episode 10 | 08 Apr 2020 | 00:42:10 | |
We start this week off with Bubholla's Covid-19 anthem, CHANGETHEWORLD, then stay mostly in NC with a detour through SC in the early nineties, all while staying at least six feet away from any freaky peeps (and the non-freaky peeps too... the ones you really gotta worry about).

| Radio - Episode 9 | 25 Mar 2020 | 00:37:39 | |
This week's episode is dedicated to the memory of Brett Butler (The Flight Risks, Fire Marshal Bill, All Thumbs and Two Left Feet). He was a hell of a drummer and a hell of a guy, and he'll be missed for sure. We also go all over the map and play bands from Charlotte, Greensboro, Durham, Carboro, Wilmington, Columbia, and Charleston.
| Talks! - Episode 9 - Spacelab (Bob Wall & Matt Welborn) | 18 Mar 2020 | 01:31:06 | |
For this week’s episode, I travelled to Durham to visit my friend Matt (GGHT Ep 2), and talk to him and his friend Bob Wall. Bob has been in a ton of bands and we only briefly touch on a few. There’s a lot of bonus material coming from this one too, so keep an eye out for that on our patron soon! Y’all stay safe, and if you find yourself bored, create and connect! Just because we can’t all hang out together right now doesn’t mean we can’t reach out to each other. Take care and I know we’ll all get to see each other soon!
| Radio - Episode 8 | 11 Mar 2020 | 00:32:23 | |
Settling into what should be a somewhat regular, every other week, schedule for both styles of podcast, and coming in a little early this week! Check out this killer line up of tunes!
| Talks! - Episode 8 - Jonny Dick (Queen City Rejects) | 04 Mar 2020 | 01:23:43 | |
Please forgive the lateness! I've been a little under the weather, so I've been trying to rest as much as possible! On this weeks’ episode I have Jonny Dick from Queen City Rejects, NME, Cemetery Thieves, The Vivians, and much more! Me and Jonny go way back and this episode is a little scattered because of that! Lots of casual conversation happened (much had to be cut out), and thus a lot of the things we were trying to get to or say never happened before we moved to the next subject. This episode was a lot of fun to record, and a challenge to edit, and I have more from it that I’ll use down the road (and I’ll have Jonny back on sometime as well).

| Talks! - Episode 7 - Jon Bowman (Warboys US) | 26 Feb 2020 | 02:03:51 | |
Back from a week off! Well, "off" is relative, as I was busy working on the zine, and a radio episode! Want to get a copy of that zine? Check our patreon, or follow us on facebook and look for more information coming there soon! On this week's episode, I sat down with my friend, Jon Bowman of Warboys U.S. Jon has been involved in a ton of projects, and we don't even get to them all on this episode! This one is full of history that ends up turning into more general scene conversation. There's more of that coming to the patreon page as I have a couple of clips already cut from this and about another hour of conversation to work with! Don't forget to like and support all the artists we feature!
| Talks! Episode 80 - Jonny Golian, Reporting from 20XX | 20 Jul 2023 | 01:17:27 | |
This week I sat down with Jonny Golian (AKA Jonny G) from Reporting from 20XX to talk about his involvement in supporting and documenting the scene through pictures, video, blogging, reviews, show listings, and more! | Radio - Episode 7 | 21 Feb 2020 | 00:44:03
GGH? Talks! will be back next week… I had to take a break to get the zine ready! And it’s ready! So since I was left with a little extra time this week, here’s your radio episode! I lead it off with the brand new, just released today, Van Huskins single, “Post-Apocalyptic Birds”, and play you some bands I love and a couple I just discovered. Dig it!
| Talks! - Episode 6 - Levi from No Anger Control | 12 Feb 2020 | 01:41:17 | |
On this week’s episode, I sit down with Levi Erickson, guitarist for Charlotte’s favorite punk band, No Anger Control! This episode features mostly music from outside of the Carolinas, as Levi’s story begins in other towns across the country. Of course in keeping it local, we round out the episode with NAC, and a promise of more to come on them, as we just barely scratched the surface of his current chapter in this episode! https://www.facebook.com/NoAngerControl/ Wanna help support this podcast? http://www.patreon.com/gabbagabbahuh https://www.gabbagabbahuh.com/
| Radio - Episode 6 | 07 Feb 2020 | 00:36:03 | |
This week, we're bringing you songs related to the previous episodes of Gabba Gabba Huh? Talks! These are bands we talked about, or in the case of episode 4, bands that Brandon Hamby recorded at Dead Peasant Studio. If you heard GGH? Radio Episode 5, this is much like that, only I've picked two or three songs related to each episode as kind of a way to remind you of what you're missing if you haven't listened to those episodes and to also play those bands while they're still "fresh" off of recent episodes.I'm going to start mixing it up a bit on GGH? Radio soon, but still expect to get episodes that tie into the Talks! episodes from time to time!
| Talks! - Episode 5 - The Fill Ins | 05 Feb 2020 | 01:54:37 | |
On this week's episode we sit down with Alex Stiff and Captain Nunn from the Fill Ins and Something Good For Ya Podcast! (and Superjett, which we didn't even get around to talking about! I guess I'll have to have them back on sometime, huh?) We talk about their beginnings, small record labels, the state of the scene, and their new record... that's right, they've got vinyl... Never Heard of 'Em (Hobo Wolfman Records), which you can get advance copies of now! Also be sure to be on the lookout for episode 60 of Something Good For Ya, dropping this Friday featuring me, talking about this podcast and my band, Van Huskins! Now that's really something good for ya! The Fill Ins – Drinkin’ Again
| Talks! - Episode 4 - Dead Peasant Studio | 29 Jan 2020 | 01:55:36 | |
This week we sat down with Brandon Hamby of Dead Peasant Studio, Graves of Gods, The Seduction, and more! We talk about band history, how he got into recording, the decline of show attendance, the state of the music industry, young talent, and we also get to listen to a lot of killer songs that he recorded in his studio! This episode is the most music packed yet! Dig it!
| Radio - Episode 5 | 24 Jan 2020 | 00:42:48 | |
Gabba Gabba Huh? Radio is back! This week, our episode goes hand in hand with Episode 2 and 3 of Gabba Gabba Huh? Talks! These are all bands that were mentioned in that episode, but not played. Be on the lookout for these types of episodes, current band episodes, and other themed episodes down the road! Playlist: Boil (Boone, NC) - Timmy (1992)
| Talks! - Episode 2 - Punk Rock Origins/Boone Punk Scene | 22 Jan 2020 | 01:49:18 | |
A little delayed, but here it is! Episode 2 of the Gabba Gabba Huh? Talks Podcast! This one gets noisy at times and is full of cassette hiss, but that's punk rock and that's what this episode is all about! Note: I’ll be numbering the episodes per the format, thus, last week’s episode is now Talks 1. Confused? Probably so, but going forward this will make things more clear (especially once the website is up and running!) And hopefully you’ve already seen that there is another episode out today! Episode 3 actually leaked prior to this one, to hold over those of you who just couldn’t wait to hear what Mike, Matt, and Roger had to say about their days in The Wacky Package! There was enough of that talk for a somewhat shorter episode of its own. Having said that, this is a somewhat longer episode, so it also helps make this all go down just a little bit easier! Be sure to stay tuned to our facebook page for a lot of really cool and fun stuff coming soon in relation to this episode, plus an announcement about a way to help support what we do and get a lot of bonus content in exchange! We’re hatching ideas over here and you’ll want to hear all about it! Gabba Gabba Huh? Talks! Episode 2 Playlist: The Stylin’ Johnny Appleseeds – Ode To Jimmy Repo (1991)
| Talks! - Episode 3 - The Wacky Package | 22 Jan 2020 | 00:38:30 | |
Where's episode 2?! It's coming! This "mini-sode" (I don't know how "mini" 38 minutes is though) of the Gabba Gabba Huh? Talks! Podcast is everything about The Wacky Pacakage that was edited from nearly three and a half hours of converasation with two of my best friends, Matt and Roger. In the full podcast (Talks! Episode 2), you'll hear about our punk rock origins, our first band, and more, but this is all about our detour as vounteer DJ's at WNCW in Spindale, NC! There's no music in this one, so it's a little bit different, and a taste of the type of extra content I intend to bring in the future with this project! Exciting news coming soon about a way to support us and get even more awesome extras, including playlists from the Talks! episodes and additional outtakes, so keep your eyes peeled! Note: This one does just kind of end. I'll work on making an end tag for these things soon!
| Talks! - Episode 1 - Negulators | 15 Jan 2020 | 01:35:24 | |
Mike sits down (on the floor!) with Negulators from Charlotte, NC for the first episode of the Gabba Gabba Huh? Talks! Podcast, the interview style counterpart to the radio style episodes. This band is full of history! You'll hear about bands such as 30 Ft Beast! Subculture! Kudzu Ganja! NOFX! And more! This one gets a bit chaotic at times, but it's full of great stories that you will want to hear! We still have over 30 minutes of unused audio, and while it's not all usable, there's still some good tidbits in there. Stay posted to our facebook page for how you can hear more soon, including how to hear the entire playlist of songs used in this episode. Also, I won't mention this every time, but for those who listen all the way to the end, we have a little reward for ya! And this should go without saying, but it's NSFW due to lots of bombs dropped from all letters of the alphabet!
| Radio - Episode 4 | 08 Jan 2020 | 00:39:56 | |
In this episode, we start at the beginning with North Carolina's first punk band! We also get really heavy, and a little bit evil, so brace yourselves! Then we hang out in the nineties quite a bit again, and there's a song by one of our favorite current bands in Charlotte! This one's chock full of some important bands, so don't miss it! And I would like to note that we need to get a more consistent set up so our edits don't stand out so much, but we're learning! Next week's episode should be our first interview style episode, so as always, stay tuned!
| Talks! Episode 79 - Scotty Irving (Clang Quartet/Geezer Lake/Spirit of Hamlet) | 30 Jun 2023 | 01:41:57 | |
This week, I spoke to percussionist, Scotty Irving, via Skype on two separate days due to technical difficulties and crossed wires! Scotty is best known as the one man behind the Christian Harsh Noise act, Clang Quartet, but we also talk about his time behind the drums in Geezer Lake, Benj-O-Matic, and Spirit of Hamlet, as well as school band, but the main focus of this one is Scotty's faith.
| Radio - Episode 3 "Out with the Old" | 01 Jan 2020 | 00:47:42 | |
Happy new year! Out with the old, in with the new. Though the old is far from gone, this episode features a variety of currently active bands... bands that released new music in 2019 and should still be playing shows in 2020. This episode is a little longer than the previous two, but if we had put in everyone we wanted, it would have been even longer. We'll get around to everyone eventually, and will likely do current band episodes periodically to spread the love as much as we can. Big announcement about the next Van Huskins show contained within! Enjoy and give us feedback... the facebook page is the best way to reach us! Like, follow, and support these bands as well!
| Radio - Episode 2 | 28 Dec 2019 | 00:30:57 | |
That was fast! We're back! But don't get too used to this rapid release schedule as we intend to settle into a more regular weekly/bi-weekly schedule in the near future with radio episodes filling in weeks between interview style episodes. This week's music comes to you from each of the past four decades, and all of it (well, almost all) comes from digital sources, as I am going to work on improving sound quality from the conversion process for tapes and vinyl. Enjoy!
| Radio - Episode 1 | 25 Dec 2019 | 00:37:26 | |
"Sneak Peek" radio edition of the Gabba Gabba Huh? Podcast. The radio edition will feature songs from bands from all over the Carolinas from the past 40 years. While the main podcast will be more converstional and interview style, this podcast will focus on the music, with some background information on the songs and bands featured. Most songs will be digitized from original vinyl, cassette, or CD sources, thus the quality will vary, but will be rather true to the original form. Hosted by Mike Phillips from Van Huskins
| Talks! Episode 78 - Bog Loaf | 06 Jun 2023 | 01:11:50 | |
This week I sat down with the band Bog Loaf, at the bar of The Milestone Club in Charlotte NC to talk about their individual and collective musical journeys! I gush a little bit up front and again at the end about what this place means to me, and we have to deal with a fan in the background (I scrubbed it as much as I could), but then we get around to all things Bog Loaf, including their upcoming residency at Snug Harbor (Every Wednesday, June 2023, https://snugrock.com/) and their recent Living Room Sessions with Nothing But Drums (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC63_LS8s9Z2KbWG98EFVZhg).
| Talks! Episode 77 - Billy Riot (Soda City Riot) | 11 May 2023 | 01:27:53 | |
This week I decided to follow up my Chuck Walker interview (if you haven't listened, do that. Now), with another South Carolina episode, and with someone that got mentioned in that interview, and spoke with Billy Riot via Skype. We talk about his music, his podcasts, getting sober, and finding God. We also cover how he and Chuck became friends and the things they're going to be doing together in the very near future!
| Talks! Episode 76 - Chuck Walker (Bedlam Hour) | 26 Apr 2023 | 01:33:41 | |
This week I spoke with Chuck Walker via Skype about his influential band, Bedlam Hour. Not only does Chuck walk us through the history of his band, but he also fills in a lot of gaps in the South Carolina punk rock history that hasn't made it on the podcast yet. We also talk about touring, his side projects, how punk rock and old age go hand in hand, we have a brief visit from my parents dogs, and talk about getting the band back together!
| Talks! Episode 75 - Eric and Ernest from Imvibes Podcast | 04 Apr 2023 | 00:43:15 | |
This week's episode is another crossover episode. Much like GGHT73 with The Rooster and Queen City Rejects, part one of this episode can be heard on another podcast! Before we recorded this episode I was the guest on Imvibes Podcast season 4 episode 3 (titled The Crossover), so go listen to that one before or after mine! This week, me and my guests are Eric Milatz and Ernest Stevenson talk about how their podcast recently lost some members, their beginnings in music (including some Polka talk!), where the podcast is heading next, and we give a lot of love to Tommy's Pub, who was gracious enough to host us for the evening. And then we round it all out with a little jazz in the background!
| Talks! Episode 74 - Jeremy Radio (Thousand Dollar Movie/Four Finger Records) | 24 Mar 2023 | 01:22:22 | |
This week my guest is Jeremy Radio from Thousand Dollar Movie, Four Finger Records, and Gigantic Recording Company. In addition to his current projects and sharing a lot of Charlotte love, we also talk about his history in music and other bands such as Tighty Whities, The Raineers, and Public Radio, punk rock/DIY ethos, our shared love for The Simpsons, and we bring up Mike Watt a few times as well.
| Talks! Episode 73 - Return to The Rooster with Queen City Rejects! | 08 Mar 2023 | 01:10:56 | |
This week I visited The Rooster to record a two part episode with not only the owner of The Rooster, but Jonny and Matt from Queen City Rejects as well! On my half of the podcast, we talk about the trials of getting The Rooster open, how things are going since opening, and about a big punk rock show happening on 3.11.23 with Queen City Rejects, No Anger Control, Self Made Monsters, Van Huskins, and Y'all're! And since QCR is along for the ride on this one, we also talk about how this will be their final show! This one is filled with laughs and plenty of tangents, but we always get back to the subjects at hand!
| Talks! 89 - Chris and Wesley Johnson | 05 Jan 2024 | 01:22:58 | |
This week I talked to Chris and Wes Johnson from the band Hardcore Lounge about their family history, their history in music, documentary film making, underneath the stage at the Milestone Club, and more! We spend a good bit of time talking about The Johnson Family Singers, making this the furtherest back GGH has gone in local music history! Listen to learn more!
| Talks! Episode 72 - Jason Parker (Ihafwhohas, The Vivians, Dielectrics) | 22 Feb 2023 | 01:52:24 | |
This week I visited Jason Parker at his studio to talk about not only his time in music, but his current career using his artistic skills as well. We talk about his beginnings with ihafwhohas and the Milestone scene during the mid to late nineties, as well as his other bands, The Vivians, Death and Fame, Throw It To Lucas, and The Dielectrics, how he turned graffiti into a career, and then talks about his upcoming solo project. This one is packed full of DIY inspiration and a lot of shared history!
| Talks! Episode 71 - T.j. Bravo (Legggs, Mr. Gold, Blame it On Bart) | 08 Feb 2023 | 01:28:42 | |
This week T.j. Bravo paid a visit to Gabba Gabba Huh? Manor to talk about his time playing in the bands, such as Polish Friday, LEGGGs, Mr. Gold, Chase Warren & The Homewreckers, and Blame it on Bart, his involvement with Don't Sweat It Inc., Band from a Hat, DIY, and more! This was a fun conversation to both have and to listen to as well and easily goes down as one of my favorites just because of all the things we end up touching on!
| Talks! Episode 70 - Luke Edwards Returns! | 23 Jan 2023 | 00:59:16 | |
New year, new format? Sort of! Gabba Gabba Huh? is back with a tighter, more focused episode for your listening pleasure! This doesn't mean that the longer, artist's journey, style episodes are done, but expect a good mix of the two as I intend to bring you more consistent content for your ears this year! This week, I once again visit with Luke Edwards at his home in Shelby, NC to catch up on what's been going on with his Motörhead tribute band, Killed By Death. We also talk about the recent show he played with his former Animal Bag bandmate, Otis Hughes, about his town's relationship (or lack of) with heavier music, and round it out by talking about how a couple of old timers like us just have an addiction for this stuff!
| Talks! Episode 69 - Ahvid Harris | 30 Nov 2022 | 01:07:52 | |
Gabba Gabba Huh? is back?! Yes! At least this week! After this, it may (or may not) be next year before I get the ball really rolling again. Hear a little bit about that up front, but I was having microphone issues (causing some audio issues throughout), so some of what I had to say never made it, but you'll get the idea! This week's guest is Ahvid Harris, a local self-described impressionist, with poetry being the main subject. A little bit of a departure, but still local, still the arts, and still DIY. What you'll get here is two recent friends getting a chance to know each other a little bit more and talk about how our crafts are actually quite similar. Stick around through the sometimes crummy audio to hear some wonderfully recited poetry (luckily my audio issues not present during these segments), and get to know a little bit about the local poetry scene!
