Relatable Podcasts for Moms with Anxiety or Depression That You'll Love11 May 202300:07:05

May is mental health awareness month. Research and personal experience revealed that some of the most common mental health struggles for moms are anxiety and depression. In my personal opinion, I think a lot of that has to do with a lack of true self-care, not just bubble baths and pedicures. I found some podcast episodes about anxiety, depression, and self-care to hopefully give you a starting point for yourself or to share with someone you love who is struggling with mental health.

5 Things Helping Me Live a More Joyful Life04 May 202300:06:20

This is one of those episodes and this week it's all about what is helping me life a joyful life right now. I first heard this idea from the Lazy Genius Podcast, and the host, Kendra Adachi said she got this idea from the author, Barbara Brown Taylor. Taylor asks and answers this question in her memoir, Leaving Church.

I put this episode on the list for this month, but I've had a pretty hard and stressful couple of months, and quite honestly, I almost decided not to do this episode because I couldn't think of anything that was making my life better right now. But then I realized that that was the exact reason I needed to do this episode, and I ended up coming up with five things that are saving my life.

Listen in to hear what these five things are!

Parenting Tips for Parents in the Trenches, Parenting in Real Life25 Apr 202300:14:24

I think it’s safe to say that at least most of us aren’t perfect parents, but I also think it’s safe to say that most of us are trying to become better parents. This week’s podcast is called Parenting In Real Life and the hosts Alexis and Alan Tanner talk about the realities of parenthood along with parenting tips and tricks on how to make it easier. The authenticity of this podcast is wonderfully refreshing.

In this episode I talk to Alan and Alexis about many aspects of their show including:

    • Their show being a place for parents to find parenting tips as well as sympathy and commiseration in the hard parts of parenting.
    • They conciously keep the podcast light, so you can do other things while listening and don't have to feel the need to take a bunch of notes.
    • The vibe of their show is conversational and relaxed.
    • Their show has followed their family as it has grown and changed, so no matter what stage of parenting you are in they have parenting tips for you.
    • And much more!

Uplifting Podcasts to Give You Hope on the Hard Days06 Apr 202300:05:41

Last weekend I got to gather (virtually) with my whole church and watch General Conference, which is when the leaders of my church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, give us direction and guidance for our lives. It’s one of my favorite weekends of the year, because of how uplifting it is, so I decided to share some great uplifting podcasts for this week’s episode.

Walk to Wealth, Begin Your Journey to Abundance04 Apr 202300:14:23

A lot of podcasters start their podcast after they’ve learned most of what they need to know to be an expert in their field. This week’s podcast, Walk to Wealth, is a little different. John Mendez started his podcast at the beginning of his journey to finding wealth so that he could learn right alongside all of us.

5 (Slightly Random) Things I've Learned from Podcasts09 Mar 202300:06:57

Hi, I’m Andi Smiley, the Friendly Podcast Guide. Every week I put out an episode about a specific podcast to help you figure out if it’s your next favorite podcast, those come out on Tuesdays. I also put out another episode each Thursday that’s a little more personal, either a list of podcasts I like for the season we’re in, how I’m using podcasts in my own life or something like that, this is one of those episodes and I’m talking about some of things I’ve recently learned from podcasts.

Write Your Best Episode: Tips & Experiments w/ Whitney Archibald15 Apr 202500:30:06

How do you actually sit down and write an awesome podcast episode? The short answer…experiment a lot. The long answer is this episode. And one of my favorite parts is when Whitney breaks down how to create an amazing podcast episode out of a bad interview.

Whitney Archibald is the host of 2 podcasts: The Family Lab and The Y Magazine Podcast. She has been podcasting for 6 years so she has had plenty of time to figure out what works and what doesn’t.

    Topics discussed in this episode:

    • Solo podcast episodes

    • Interview podcast episodes

    • Narrative podcast episodes

    • Writing a podcast episode

    • How to save a bad interview

    • Podcast interviewing tips

Here’s the one thing you should implement in your podcast if you’re feeling overwhelmed and not sure where to start and that is to experiment. Try something new. The best way to figure out what your listeners like is to try something new and see how they respond. And don’t get me wrong this doesn’t have to be big experiments. This could be something as simple as changing up the way you say your outro, or choosing a topic that feels a little outside of your comfort zone. Whatever you choose to do, make sure to track how your listeners react to it and track what you think about it too. Then you’ll know if you should try to incorporate it into your podcast or not.

What's Saving My Life Right Now16 Feb 202300:13:48

Hi, I’m Andi Smiley, the Friendly Podcast Guide. And I’m going to tell you what is saving my life right now. I first heard this phrase from Kendra Adachi, the host of The Lazy Genius podcast and she said she got this idea from author Barbara Brown Taylor. Barbara Brown Taylor asks and answers this question in her memoir, Leaving Church.

I really like the idea of focusing on the things that are making my life better, it helps me to see those things easier in my every day life. And as a stay at home mom of 3 littles 5 years old and younger in the winter where it’s too cold for my kids to easily go outside, I need all the help I can get. I hope that you can find a nugget of info that can help you with your life, but more than anything I hope that listening to my list of 10 things can inspire you to make your own list of things that are saving your life right now.

What I Learned in the First Year of Making My Podcast02 Feb 202300:05:00

I’m Andi the host of the Friendly Podcast Guide. For the past year I’ve been introducing moms to different podcasts so that they can figure out which one is a good fit for them. I’ve loved talking to podcasts hosts about their shows and bringing those conversations to my listeners, but I’ve missed being able to share my own thoughts and podcast lists with all of you, which is why I decided to start making a second episode every week. I’m still trying to figure out what to call these episodes, so if you have any ideas, please DM me or send me an email. I’m flirting with the name Andi’s Corner or maybe Andi’s Musings, but I’m still very open to ideas.

Deep Purpose, Finding Your Purpose Unlocks Your Potential31 Jan 202300:14:17

I believe that we were all put on this earth for a purpose, but figuring out what that purpose is can be super difficult. I’ve learned this first hand this year as I’ve been trying to figure out how to follow both my dreams of being a mom and of making a podcast. This week I am talking about the podcast Deep Purpose, which has helped me realize that my potential can be unlocked when I have a clear purpose. Harvard Business School Professor Ranjay Gulati is the host and he interviews top global CEOs about their personal journeys to find purpose and how it has helped them in the business world.

3 Podcast Mistakes That Almost Broke Me (And How I Fixed Them)08 Apr 202500:15:05

How do you avoid burning out as a mom with a podcast? In this episode I give you 3 mistakes that I made that led to me burning out and how to avoid them.

When you follow the advice in this episode you will avoid so much of the stress and overwhelm that I dealt with in the first year of my podcast.

Topics discussed in this episode include:

    • Seasonal podcast format

    • Launching a podcast

    • How to start a podcast

    • Podcast download numbers

    • Podcast editing

Here is the one thing you should implement in your podcast if you're feeling overwhelmed and you're not sure where to start, and that is having a seasonal format. That break is not only so that you can rest, which is very, very important, but it's also to give your brain a break from putting out content so that you can refill your creative cup so that you're ready to put out your best content again for the next season. If you don't have that break, eventually you're probably gonna run out of ideas, which is kind of the worst thing that can happen for a podcaster. So you need to take those breaks so that you have time to recharge and give your brain a break from trying to think of new ideas so that when you do come back, the ideas are just gonna flow. I can promise you that because that's what happened to me when I finally took my first break.  I came back with so much energy and excitement around my podcast and. You deserve to have that energy and excitement around your podcast too, not just when you first start your podcast, but every season after that

Neha Aziz is the host of Partition and she takes us on a journey of discovery as we learn the details about Partition, but more importantly we learn about the people it affected and hopefully gain some empathy and sympathy along the way.

Before I heard of this podcast I hadn’t given much thought to how my favorite books got into my hands, but my eyes have been opened to the crazy stuff that can happen in the publishing business.

Bethanne describes the show as: An all-new investigative podcast hosted by world-renowned literary critic and publishing insider Bethanne Patrick. Across its eight-episode debut season, Missing Pages uncovers the power struggles, mistaken identities, and unfathomably bad behavior within the secretive world of book publishing. Each episode brings in authors, experts, publishing insiders, and a circus of New York City media elites to tell the real story; unfit for print.

Spyology Squad, Help Your Kids Learn about Science While Having Fun01 Nov 202200:13:41

One of my favorite ways to entertain my kids without using a screen is kid podcasts and one of my kids’ favorite podcasters is Mr. Jim. My kids were over the moon excited when they found out that I got to talk to Mr. Jim about his podcasts.

This is how Mr. Jim describes Spyology Squad: Packed with adventure every week, we call these kids stories “spyience-fiction”. In spyology squad, you’ll follow Jayden, Ava and Mr. Jim as they work to defeat Dr. Stinkybreath and his purple ninjas. Every week we’ll learn all about a new subject in science, have fun and save the world together!
