Robin Ferris is the CEO and Founder of Bankuet. With the cost of living crisis and inflation, food poverty in the UK is at it’s worst. This year 9.3 million people in the UK will experience food insecurity and in the last year 1 million people have used food banks for the first time. Volunteering in his local food bank, Robin saw firsthand the challenges that food banks face and how they would struggle to meet the continued increasing demand. Robin wanted to build a tech platform that would make it was easy and simple for people to donate, whilst making their money go further. And also making sure food banks got the food and items they needed, when they needed them. In 2019, Bankuet was born with the vision for no one in the UK to go hungry. Since then, they have partnered with over 300 food banks across the UK and delivered over 2.8 million food and household items to help tackle food poverty. Highlights:

After further exploration it was apparent the whole system was flawed. Due to issues with patient recruitment and engagement, 80% of clinical trials fail. This means potentially life saving drugs and treatments will never reach the market. It’s a poor situation for everyone, researchers and scientists are unable to trial new medicines, and patients are reluctant to participate in research. Sano have solved the problem by using technology to connect all these different parties in a more effective way and remove the headaches that previously existed. They enable organisations to quickly and efficiently recruit and engage the right patients, they take care of the genetic testing and data analysis, and ensure patients keep up to date with the latest research and findings. Here energy generators can sell directly to consumers, cutting out the middle party, so prices are fairer for everyone. | Keiran Whitaker, Entocycle: are insects our only truly sustainable protein source? | 28 Feb 2023 | 00:49:19
Keiran Whitaker is the Founder and CEO of Entocycle. Did you know in the UK and EU, we are 95% dependent on protein imports? And the majority of this protein isn’t what we eat, it’s what we use to feed the animals that we eat! The way we currently source and consume protein is taking a huge toll on our planet and is not sustainable. Keiran created Entocycle to accelerate a global shift to sustainable protein using insects. Insects are a much more efficient and sustainable source of protein requiring less land, water and development time compared to meat and plant based proteins. There are even insects like the Black Soldier Fly that can feed on food waste and turn that into a natural fertiliser. Keiran discusses the exciting future of insect protein and how that can help tackle food poverty and climate change. Dr Owain Rhys Hughes is the Founder and CEO of Cinapsis. After years of working in the NHS, Owain saw an acute problem with how the system worked. | Jenny Saft, Apryl: designing the future of fertility benefits | 17 Jan 2023 | 00:50:00
Jenny Saft is the Co-Founder and CEO of Apryl. From her own experience with egg freezing, Jenny realised how poorly serviced people were with their fertility and family forming needs. With a society that’s increasingly starting families at older ages, these services are crucial to people. Across Europe, public health services are limited and vary from country to country with discrimination against people within the LGBTQ community still happening. Private health services are costly, well into the £1000’s which most people cannot afford. Apryl have set out to change this. They work with employers to provide the full range of services that a person could possibly need, from egg freezing to IVF to surrogacy to adoption and much more. Diversity and inclusion sit at the core of their business, so everyone, no matter what their need or situation can get the support they need. Highlights: 03.10: How societal changes have changed fertility needs 04.49: The different types of fertility and family planning services people need 08.03: The current options available within UK and Europe and why they aren’t enough 15.54: From her own egg freezing experience to founding Apryl 22.14: How does Apryl work? | Namrata Sandhu, Vaayu: helping the retail sector become more sustainable | 27 Dec 2022 | 00:43:00
Namrata Sandhu is the CEO and Co-Founder of Vaayu. Nam grew up in Bombay, India and saw first hand the impact of waste and climate change, which inspired her to pursue a career in sustainability. After working for management consultancies and heading up sustainability for Zalando and Arcadia, two things became very clear: 1. There was a huge opportunity in the retail sector to make a dent in climate change with the sector being responsible for 25% of global emissions. 2. The biggest blocker for retailers becoming more sustainable was a lack of accurate and real-time data to make better decisions for the planet. So Nam founded Vaayu to solve that problem. Vaayu helps retailers calculate their carbon emissions in real-time, providing actionable insights into where they can make positive changes and helping them communicate their decarbonisation story to their customers. Since then, her business Philly & Friends has grown into an iconic children’s lifestyle business with purpose, representation and diversity at its core. | Bex Hay, Organise: helping employees to find their voice and take collection action to improve their workplace | 13 Dec 2022 | 00:52:59
Bex Hay is the CTO and Co-Founder of Organise. At the age of six, Bex was a self-proclaimed troublemaker, successfully campaigning at school to be allowed to play football with the boys. This highlighted the importance of being heard, taking action and influencing positive social change. After working in the campaigning space, Bex noticed that the major barriers for people improving their working conditions was that they didn’t know where to go, they couldn’t afford legal support and they were afraid of the actions their employers might take if they found out. So Bex teamed up with her co-founder Nat Whalley to build Organise. Organise provides a safe trusted space where people can anonymously discuss topics with colleagues and peers, get access to expert advice, and use tools purpose-built for running effective campaigns. | Felix Atkin, Sharesy: supporting local spaces by getting people to put money back into their community 🏫⛪ | 18 Jul 2023 | 00:53:52
Felix Atkin is the CEO and Founder of Sharesy. During COVID Felix started to explore why local schools weren’t renting out their unused spaces to generate much needed additional income. Most still took bookings via pen and paper, on average requiring 30 interactions before a booking was completed. This was frustrating for both the venue and the booker. Felix recognised this was a much wider problem with community spaces– church halls, scout huts, community centres – they all had unused spaces that they struggled to rent out. Enter Sharesy. In a few simple clicks, people can find and book spaces in their local community. Their unique model operates on a success only basis, so venues can sign up for free and only pay when a booking is made. Sharesy are on a mission to help local communities to thrive, by encouraging people to book local venues and put money back into their community. Highlights:
