In the 18th century paradise of Jamaica, Lewis Hutchinson, an immigrant from Scotland, became the island's first documented serial killer.

Known as the Mad Master of Edinburgh Castle, Hutchinson's strategic property in Saint Ann Parish became a deathtrap for wealthy travellers. He would invite them into his home or shoot them from his gunports, dispose of their bodies in underground chambers, and proudly display their possessions.

His reign of terror ultimately resulted in a manhunt, arrest, and a sensational trial that exposed the flaws in colonial law enforcement. Hutchinson was sentenced to death in 1773, leaving a dark legacy in Jamaican history.

As Robert was taken to be booked into jail he made further comments to Detective Sanchez. He told him he had lied again in one part of his confession. He said Emily had woken up when he reached the ranch and began to fight him. He had said that’s why he hit her with the bicycle pump. The truth was Emily had never regained consciousness. She posed no threat to him at all. His continued brutal attack had been his active choice.

Detectives were beginning to look more closely at Robert Earley. They asked him to come to the station for an informal recorded interview. Robert was happy to cooperate. In the city of Carlsbad, New Mexico in March 2014, Emily Lambert, a beautiful mother of two, would vanish without a trace. Desperate pleas from her family, friends, and boyfriend begged for information and her safe return. Behind the eyes of one individual, there was an undercurrent of violence. It simmered on the surface, occasionally bubbling up before settling back down. A menacing threat just waiting to explode. Shocking revelations from the Emily Dimmock case left not one but two people heartbroken. The trial of Robert Wood had the public gallery filled with actors, writers, and artists jostling for reserved seats while members of the general public, who had been following the case closely, flooded the streets outside. On the terrible night of September 11th, 1907, Emily Dimmock was killed in her sleep by a man she knew well. The investigation into Emily Dimmock’s murder wasn’t an easy one… at least not for Bert Shaw, who was convinced Emily had left her dark past behind and was living an honest life with him in their home in Camden. The police asked him several rather uncomfortable questions, ranging from Emily’s past as a sex worker named Phylis to how they met and decided to live together.

It was clear, during the questioning, that Bert had no reason or motivation to ever hurt Emily. When they first met, Emily was working the streets, and Bert offered to give her a good, comfortable life if she left the profession. Some people, however, don’t want to be rescued from their lives and enjoy their situation, even if it seems unconventional to others.

On June 16th, 1993, six employees in a small grocery store in the town of Windsor, NC were finishing their day when they experienced a living nightmare. Windsor is located in Birdie County and has a rich history, as one of the oldest towns in the state of North Carolina. Today, the town is home to about 3,500 people and 300 year old homes still line King Street. Everyone in Windsor knows everyone, making this crime particularly shocking to the community and leaving many in disbelief. On this one-off special episode, on the Sunday evening of August 27, 2006, just after 9 PM, police responded to a call regarding a missing child in Leesburg, Florida. As the officers arrived at the scene, the mother, 21-year-old Melinda Duckett, explained that she had put her son, 2-year-old Trenton, to bed around 7 PM.

She had then watched a movie with two of her friends before going to check on Trenton—but to her horror, the 2-year-old's bed was empty. Melinda was quite sure that the little boy could not have gotten out of the crib, but it was another thing that caused her and her friends to panic someone had cut through the window screen of the room.

The Maryland Attorney General investigation into the sexual abuse of children by clergy in the Archdiocese of Baltimore (AOB) has concluded. Attorney General Brian Frosh has turned his report over to the courts and has asked the court to release it to the public saying his investigation uncovered many attempts of coverups of priests abusing children by those in the Archdiocese.

While Shane travels to Baltimore to do some podcasting with Gemma, he stops at a hotel in Pittsburg and records this phone conversation with Teresa Lancaster about the conclusion of the report and where we are now... as well as a mysterious group of individuals who have come forward to oppose the report being released. Concluding the episode is Jean Wehner at the SNAP press conference after news of the report being finished.

There is a house in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. Its Queen Anne style Frame sits on Riverside Ave near the Pasquotank river. It stands two stories high, with green and white siding and trim. This house, like so many, holds a dark history. Onlookers of the house claim to see a ghostly figure standing in front of a window of the second story. A young girl, taken before she could truly live life. A girl who has a secret.

Her name is Nell Cropsey, and the town still talks about her story to this day. But no-one truly knows what happened to Nell. The best we can do for her is to tell her story. The good, the bad, and the dark.

More than a century ago, the body of 20 year old Hazel Drew was found floating in Teal's Pond near the bottom of Taborton Mountain in Sand Lake, New York. An autopsy found that she'd died of blunt head trauma to the back of her head prior to ending up in the pond. Her death was labeled a murder. In the weeks that followed the discovery of her body, many suspects were investigated including among others: her recently widowed, and suicidal, uncle William Taylor who lived nearby; a simple-minded 17 year old farm hand named Frank Smith, who fancied Hazel and his friend Rudolph Gunderman, a charcoal peddler, the two of whom had seen her along Taborton Road, near the pond, shortly before she died; and a pair of unknown men seen by a couple driving by, about the time the murder was supposed to have taken place, at the scene - one waiting in a horse drawn runabout, and the other beating around in the bushes near the pond, as if looking for something! What made Hazel's murder all the more mysterious, was that only a few days prior to it, she'd suddenly, and unexpectedly left her job as a domestic at the home of Professor E.R. Cary in Troy, and nobody knew what her intentions were. Also her luggage had been left - checked at the train station. In the end, all the leads the investigators had ran out. Nobody was ever arrested or charged with the murder, and to this day - Hazel Drew's murder remains unsolved!
