For The Kudos - #21507 oct. 202601:35:08

This episode is brought to you by 2XU Episode #215 kicks off with a lengthy discussion around "home improvement" - this could almost break the FTK record for the longest non-running-related intro. The team preview what's going on in the FTK & Pulse ecosystem during Melb Mara race week before finally getting stuck into training week's. The Big Q sees the three hosts predict the winners of the 10k, Half Marathon and Marathon before the episode closes out with the usual Give Some Kudos & TWHSOITWTWATSA segments.

This episode begins with Jimmy providing his review of the Grand Final (he didn’t watch it) and what he thought of Kylie (didn’t see it either). A brief discussion on urban planning provides a segue into training weeks and a discussion around different pacing strategies for a marathon. Both gentlemen are pleased with their respective 180km weeks and eagerly await the next two weeks of training and life.

For The Kudos - #21401 oct. 202601:24:51

The team are back in the sunny Hawthorn studio to bring you episode #214. The crew recap their grand final week before launching deep into training week's. Tess recovers well from Run Prix while Joel lays down his biggest week in a long while. Brett takes the cake as per with his first double threshold day (or at least the first public one) since he's been coaching himself. The "Big Q" sees the team unpack how to approach a hot-weather marathon while "Give Some Kudos" & "TWHSOITWTWATSA" closes out the episode!

The team are finally back together in person to record episode 213. Things kick off with a big recap of all the recent races before Joel (who blames all his brain-farts work related fatigue) updates the listeners on his Coober Pedy adventures. Brett lays down a solid training week before Tess dives deep on her performance at Run Prix in terrible conditions. No BIG Q this week due to time constraints but you can expect some laughs in Give Some Kudos and TWHSOITWTWATSA.

Willy Songok of The Kenyan Experience - #21111 sept. 202601:44:57

Tess & Brett resume regular FTK programming in Joel's absence. Instead of the "Big Q" this week, Joel sits down with Willy Songok - Head of Guest Relations at "The Kenyan Experience" (which is run from the High Altitude Training Centre in Iten, Kenya). During his time in Iten, Joel had many interesting interactions with Willy and this lead to Joel asking if he'd be willing to join FTK for an informal chat. You'll hear all about "The Kenyan Experience" as well as Willy's personal story, which when paired with his incredibly dry sense of humour and deep knowledge of running, makes him the perfect leader for the program.

Big episode tonight with Brett and Tess hosting the episode. Joel took a well deserved break from hosting duties to enjoy his trip in Kenya. They take you through their training week recaps before diving into their very different Sydney Marathon experiences - Brett pacing the lead Aussie men, and Tess spectating from the course with her brother. The episode wraps up with the usual favourites - Give Some Kudos and TWSOITWTWATSA. Thanks for all the support as always, listeners. Hope you enjoy this one!

This episode is brought to you by Better Beer: Brett, Joel & Tess record over zoom this week with Joel calling in from "The Home Of Champions" - Iten, Kenya. The episode begins with the team recapping recent race highlights as well as the usual sharing of what they've been up to since they last recorded. As for "Training Weeks", Brett & Tess hold up the segment themselves while Joel substitutes running for travel-related-tales. Due to time zone differences and commitments Joel bails from the episode, leaving Brett & Tess to close out the episode without him.

Logy and Yogi take the reins this week, sharing hosting duties with lots to catch up on. The team walk through a couple of Logy’s best training weeks and sessions to date, looking at what made them work so well beyond simply training hard, as he looks ahead to the National Cross Country Championships in Ballarat. Matilda shares her taper week leading into the Wonderfalls 25km win, where less running made room for more mindfulness, before recapping race day. Purchase or Discovery of the Week closes out the show, with a surprise guest appearance for those who make it to the end

The three athletes recount their last big week of training before starting to taper down the effort and volume. Hear what a taper means to them, what their thoughts on the course are and whether they’ve studied it and also what they will be focusing on in race week. If you see Caitlin, Tim or Fraser out on course be sure to cheer their names or give them the Joel treatment of just yelling ‘FTK’. Either works.

Joel's Wonderfalls 50k Race Recap - #20819 août 202601:33:46

After her one week hiatus, Tess is back on the airwaves, joining Brett & Joel in the Hawthorn studio. In training week's Brett returns to intensity while Tess continues to build consistency with her new program. Then for the first time in as long as everyone can remember - Joel recaps a race win. He takes the listeners through the successful parts of the Wonderfalls 50, opens up about what went wrong, and everything else that happened during his 4h40min performance . This week's "Big Q" is all about "super sessions" towards the end of a marathon block and as always, the episode closes out with our usual "Give Some Kudos" and "TWHSOITWTWATSA" segments.

As you’d expect, there’s a lot to pull apart in the penultimate pre-race episode from another 550+ kilometres of training and life. Things for your listening bingo card; track 5000m races, police interactions, aborting sessions, bread and lots more.

For The Kudos - #20715 août 202601:00:30

With a change in recording schedule this week Tess was unable to join Brett & Joel for the episode. Brett & Joel realise quickly that without Tess, anarchy unfolds in the Hawthorn studio. That said, Brett & Joel try their best to take the listeners through each of FTK's segments without diverting the topic of conversation too much. At the somewhat of a halfway point in this series Caitlin and Tim ‘run’ through their training weeks before being asked to reflect on how well they’re travelling in the big picture of this marathon block. In terms of their training highlights, Caitlin rebounds well after a wet Tuesday to crush her long run workout, Tim banks another 209km week albeit with some blisters and Fraser has his own very lovely Sunday run.

Brett's Sunshine Coast Mara Recap - #20607 août 202601:31:26

Brett, Joel & Tess begin episode 206 with a lengthy recap of the highlight Australian performances at the Commonwealth Games. Joel and Tess take the listeners through their training week's before Brett closes out the segment with an in depth race recap of his Sunshine Coast Marathon win over the weekend. Commonwealth Games are underway and we already have 4 medals! Rose Davies and Ky Robinson take out both of the 10000m and if Brett and Fraser are correct it's only the start of Australia's medal run. Sunshine Coast is this weekend but with no official entry lists, the preview was a bit of a struggle.

Tess' Lakeside:10 Race Recap - #20502 août 202601:22:39

Brett, Joel & Tess record from seperate studios this week. The team debrief Harbour 10 and Lakeside 10 before reflecting on their old World Champs Special series from a few years back. The team soft launch Brett's next marathon (surely you could have guessed this by now...it's a few days away) while Tess banks a solid week, and Joel is forced to push his long run back a day. The team answer a question on marathon fatigue in "The Big Q" and there's plenty of entertaining chat in our closing segments.

Their holidays are over and for the first time in this series, Tim and Caitlin mix in their training with their work and if you throw in Fraser’s mileage it might just be the most amount of training ever recorded in an FTK episode. There is a bit of shoe chat plus general training chit chat (Seb Coe and Derek Clayton get a mention) and two prominent South Australian sporting heroes make an appearance at training on Friday for Caitlin and Fraser. 5 weeks to go.

The team recap all the key results from the recent London Diamond League, spending a large majority of the chat on Josh Kerr's Mile World Record. Brett lays down a solid week of marathon training in the lead up to Sunny Coast while Tess (and her 400 training partners) bank a couple of solid workouts. "The Big Q" sees the team share their most overrated/underrated pieces of running advice and the episode closes out with the usual two segments.

We hear Logy's training week before his thorough recap of how his race went. Matilda takes the listeners through her week of running which leads to a lengthy discussion on periodisation and de-loading. As always there's plenty of non-running chat for you to enjoy :)

Brett, Joel & Tess are back in the Brunswick Studio (Tess' crib) to record episode #203. Hopefully the audio is little louder after some technical issues (we'll have the popping/clipping fixed for next week). In this episode there's plenty of running chat, a strange amount of weather talk and an unexpected lengthy chat about the TDF. You'll hear how long the team think they can run without stopping in this week's BIG Q segment, and Mike Wazowski gets a feature in TWHSOITWTWATSA.

The episode kicks off with a typical off-topic discussion, this time about plant health and smuggling pocket knives through airport security. The team then unpack the two new Australian records everyone's talking about, before going over last week's training. The Brunswick studio (Tess' place) must have another gas leak as the team forget all about "The Big Q". Give Some Kudos sees three non-running-related (at least not directly) submissions, while TWHSOITWTWATSA brings it back to the realm of running.

The team were full of laughs this week (even more than usual) to bring you episode 195. We hear a miracle story from The Great Ocean Road Marathon as well as a less-miraculous tale from Tess that involves mixing up the taps in her San Francisco office. A strong training week from Brett, Tess runs everyday while in USA and Joel heads out for his first long run in many moons. For The Kudos - #19415 mai 202600:53:47

Brett and Joel are left to their own devices this week with Tess in the USA for work. The pair chat through Brett's birthday weekend before recapping the highlights of the weekend's AthsVic 5k at Albert Park to kick off the XCR season. Brett has an easier Tuesday before joining Jack for a marathon workout on Friday, and sneakily uses the Big Q segment to fire off some questions towards Joel about where he's at with his running. They return to the trails for Give Some Kudos and Brett arrives at TWHSOITWTWATSA with an absolute smorgasboard.

With Tess back with us permanently she's implemented a new rule: no more detailed episode descriptions that give too much away! You'll just have to listen to hear everything that happens in the EP :) Brett is back at full mileage as Ballarat fatigue sets in later in the week for him. Tess shares the importance of rest days following goal races which allows the body to absorb the race effort. FTK "Friend Of The Show" Chris Barclay submits "THE BIG Q" this week around gym loading and whether or not you should be seeing improvements week after week. In "Give Some Kudos" Tess shouts out a sport close to her heart, Brett hypes up a worm-dance submission from a listener and Joel sends his kudos to a recent music project from a close friend. The episode closes out with three solid "TWHSOITWTWATSA" submissions.

FTK addressing the recent events + Brett & Tess' Ballarat Half Marathon Recaps - #19202 mai 202601:24:36

To our FTK community, thank you for sticking with us this past week. It’s been the toughest period we’ve faced since starting in 2022, and we don’t take your support lightly.

In our recent apology episode, we said we’d make real changes, not just talk about them. This week is the first step. We’re genuinely proud to welcome Tess Marks as a permanent host alongside Brett and Joel. Tess brings a perspective and energy that will make the show better, and that matters right now more than ever.

At the start of this episode, we address everything that’s unfolded. We’re not brushing it past or softening it, we’re owning it. What was said on our network was hurtful, and it didn’t reflect the kind of platform we want FTK to be. Brett, Joel and Tess talk through it openly, and more importantly, we outline the changes we’re making to ensure we do better. That includes a clear commitment to better represent and support women in the sport we all love.

We know FTK has a voice in the running community, and with that comes responsibility. This past week has been a hard lesson, but it’s one we’re taking seriously, and using to improve.

The rest of the episode gets back to what we love: racing, community, and the sport itself. Brett and Tess recap their half marathon efforts from the weekend, and we roll into Give Some Kudos and TWHSOITWTWATSA.

We’re still here, we’re learning, and we’re committed to being better.

Our apology26 avr. 202600:10:23

Our mission with FTK is to create an entertaining, informative and supportive space for all runners. We are incredibly disappointed in ourselves to appear as the exact opposite of this recently. We've let down the women in our sport and we are truly sorry.

This is an opportunity as men to check our privilege and do better. We didn’t live up to our standards. We have recorded a mini-episode to address this in more depth. We hope you can hear us out and whether you stick with us or not, we’ll right our wrongs.

TRAINING WEEKS

After his short trip to Sydney Brett lays down a big week of training. Back to hitting higher mileage (with Ballarat Half Mara in his sights) he claims to cheat-code Thursday threshold which allows him to fly on Saturday hills. The segment ends with Joel sharing details of his "comeback" race, something very different indeed! THE BIG Q

FTK "Friend Of The Show" Kim Way asks a question about managing mental burnout / low-mo in running. Brett & Joel share personal stories as well as coaching guidance to answer the question.

GIVE SOME KUDOS

Joel sends his kudos to the Essendon Bombers for their upset over Brett's Melbourne Demons. For the third week in a row Brett sends his to Cam Myers which kick starts their mini-recap of the Australian Track & Field Championships in Sydney over the weekend.

TWHSOITWTWATSA

After Joel asks Brett what he's been up to the past week and is met with a mundane answer he assumes the floor and bangs on with several mundane stories surrounding his recent camping trip.

TRAINING WEEKS

Brett updates the listeners on how his body recovered from the Sound Running 10,000m. While he appeared to dodge any soreness in the first part of the week, his calf stiffened up which lead to a modified training week. THE BIG Q

FTK "Friend Of The Show" Lisa Allen poses a question on how to approach a long run when you have a Sub-3 marathon goal. This leads Brett and Joel to provide advice based on multiple different factors.

GIVE SOME KUDOS

TWHSOITWTWATSA

Brett begins the segment with a story on accidental-hair-pulling from a recent race, which leads to an awkward and misdirected joke from his co-host. Joel closes out the segment and the episode with a submission from a soldier recording a Strava training run on a vessel.

This episode is brought to you by the McGrath Launceston Running Festival

TRAINING WEEKS

Joel takes on the roll of a "Friend Of The Show" this week, asking Brett how long he thinks a runner is allowed to feel disappointed after a poor performance. Brett gives an insightful answer which also addresses how long a runner should feel elated for, after a fantastic performance.

GIVE SOME KUDOS

Brett sends his towards Cam Myers for what the guys say is one of the most incredible runs they've ever seen. Joel sends his to an exciting new furniture design studio.

TWHSOITWTWATSA

Before they submit their victims for this week's segment Joel sheds light on an exciting competition from our mates at Better Beer, which will see the winner have their rent or mortgage paid for (for the rest of the year). Moving onto the segment Brett isn't sure about a certain comment found on social media regarding the Men's 3000m at Maurie Plant Meet. Joel closes out the segment and the episode with a video of a very unusual cheer squad during a collegiate 4x 400m relay. https://www.launcestonrunningfestival.com.au/

What started out strong dwindled in the back half as he prioritised his favourite sport. THE BIG Q

TRAINING WEEKS

Kicking off the week Brett takes us through his Tuesday workout prior to his Box Hill Burn 5000m win. While the race recap was on last week's episode, Brett & Joel chatted through his mindset moving forward to this Saturday night's 3000m in Hobart. Joel went to the well in his first Tuesday workout with the PTC crew and fit in a Saturday night threshold as he rushes training before his Pulse 5000m gig (which you've all been waiting on the edge of your seats to hear about). THE BIG Q

"Friend Of The Show" Scott T writes in with a question on pushing too hard in long runs. Brett & Joel discuss the problems associated with this which leads to a discussion on non-elite runners being influenced to overtrain by social media.

GIVE SOME KUDOS

Brett & Joel send their Kudos to all the people that ran, spectated and volunteered at last night's Pulse 5000m.
