| SPECIAL EPISODE - “Tree Of Life”. We Must End Gun Violence And Mass Shootings! | 07 Sep 2024 | 00:05:41 | |
This is the third time that I am releasing this episode, begging for an end to the gun violence and mass shootings that plague our country. In 2018, in the immediate aftermath of yet another senseless, hate driven mass shooting at the Tree Of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, PA, I wrote “Tree Of Life”. It’s a somber, mournful plea to find “a better way” to deal with gun violence and mass shootings. When I started this podcast in 2021 one of the first episodes I aired featured this song after yet another mass shooting. Then, in 2022, with the carnage continuing in schools and other public places, I aired the episode a second time. Now, in 2024, in the aftermath of another mass shooting in a school in Georgia, I am airing it again. The cycle continues. The politicians offer only “thoughts and prayers”, but nothing changes and nothing gets done. Think about the fact that children attending school today must be taught what to do if there’s an active shooter! This is insanity. Why does this happen primarily in the U.S.? Maybe it’s because we have so many more guns in circulation than any other country. Maybe it’s because we haven’t outlawed automatic weapons designed for military use. The bottom line is that, as my song says, “we must find a better way - today”. Please contact your politicians and demand a solution to this terrible problem. “Tree Of Life” Spotify link.
| Bobby Brooks Wilson - Incredible Story: Professional Jackie Wilson Tribute Artist Discovers He's Really Wilson's Son. "Lonely Teardrops", "Higher And Higher", "To Be Loved"! | 06 Sep 2024 | 00:38:28 | |
Bobby Brooks Wilson has an incredible story. He was brought up in foster homes, served in the Navy, and then became a professional singer and entertainer. He began to perform as an impersonator - a tribute artist - for the late, great Jackie Wilson, who had so many hits including “Lonely Teardrops”, “Higher and Higher” and “To Be Loved”. He was such a dead ringer for Jackie Wilson that people thought he must be related somehow. Sure enough, he eventually discovered that he was in fact Jackie Wilson’s son. His career continues to this day. My featured song is my reimaged version of Dobie Gray’s “The ‘In’ Crowd”. | "FIRE"! Robert's Two Reimagined Versions Of "Fire", Jimi Hendrix's Classic Song, Recorded 25 Years Apart! | 24 Jan 2024 | 00:07:00
Jimi Hendrix is one of the most iconic figures in all of rock music and was a hero to Robert and millions of people. So when Robert recorded his debut album "Miles Behind" in 1994 he decided to include a cover of one of Jimi’s songs. He chose to reimagine a “psychedelic jazz” version of Hendrix’s classic “Fire”. It features Al Foster from Miles Davis’ band on drums plus the amazing Ada Dyer on vocals. Twenty five years later, with his band, Project Grand Slam, Robert decided to re-record “Fire” but in a different style. This new, reimagined version of the song became the band’s closing number in concert. This episode features a bit of both versions of “Fire” - the studio version from 1994, and a “live” concert version from 2018 from the “It’s Alive!” album, featuring the wonderful Ziarra Washington on vocals. Listen to the passage of time. And thank you Jimi! Jeremy was half of Chad & Jeremy who had several big hits including “Yesterday’s Gone” and “A Summer Song”. He tours together with Peter these days. We do two Songfests - one where we select and discuss several favorite British Invasion era songs by other artists that were One Hit Wonders or off the beaten path. And the other where we play and discuss a few of Peter & Gordon’s hits plus a Peter and Jeremy song. My featured song is “This Time” from the album “Bobby M and the Paisley Parade”. | WORLD PREMIERE Pt 2 - Robert's New EP "The Singles Project". Called "Amazing!", "Magical!", "A Home Run!". Introducing Two More Songs, "The Ship" And "New Wind"! | 30 Oct 2023 | 00:09:27
This episode again celebrates the World Premiere of my new EP called “The Singles Project”, featuring five new songs. The recording has received wonderful reviews, being called “Amazing!” (Top Buzz Magazine), “Magical…a sonic tour de force!” (IndiePulse Music), “Fabulously enticing!” (Pop Icon Magazine), and a “Home run!” (Hollywood Digest). This episode introduces two more songs, “The Ship” and "New Wind". “The Ship” is a song that’s unlike anything else I’ve ever written. On the surface it’s a tale out of the 1800s about a sailing ship that’s in trouble. But it’s also a metaphor for the troubled times that we live in now. Hollywood Digest calls it “A firestorm of grooves and a thunderbolt of tonality!” "New Wind" is about the springtime renewal of life. But it too is also a metaphor about casting out the bad things in one's life and welcoming new good things. Pop Icon calls it "Entrancing!" There’s one more song on the EP called “She Always Draws A Crowd”. It's my commentary on how sometimes we hide our true selves behind our social image. Pop Icon calls it "Haunting!" I’ll let you discover that one on your own. “The Ship”. Spotify link. YouTube link. | WORLD PREMIERE Pt 1 - Robert's New EP "The Singles Project". Called "Amazing!", "Magical!", "A Home Run!". Introducing The First Two Songs, "Like Never Before" And "Saturday Morning"! | 23 Oct 2023 | 00:09:09
This episode celebrates the World Premiere of my new EP called “The Singles Project”, featuring five of my new songs. I’m pleased to say that the recording has received wonderful reviews. It’s been called “Amazing!” (Top Buzz Magazine), “Magical...A Sonic Tour De Force!” (IndiePulse Music), “Fabulously Enticing!” (Pop Icon Magazine), and a “Home run!” (Hollywood Digest). In this episode I’m going to introduce the first two songs, “Like Never Before” and "Saturday Morning". “Like Never Before” is a song about the darker reality of our world today. It couldn’t be more timely. It’s a commentary on the hostility, divisiveness, and lack of civility and compassion that seems to exist everywhere. The refrain states my message: “We need each other right now like never before.” Hollywood Digest calls the song “Stunning!” “Saturday Morning” is the total opposite of the first song. It's a happy, upbeat, feel good song about the everyday events in our lives that bring us joy. I just thought we all needed something like that at this time. IndiePulse calls it “Stunning!” and Top Buzz Magazine calls it "The Crown Jewel”. All five songs on the EP can be streamed on Spotify and all the other streaming services. You can watch the lyric videos of "Like Never Before" and "Saturday Morning" on YouTube. The links are below. And you can check out all of my music at the Project Grand Slam website. -------------------------------------------- “Like Never Before”. Spotify link. YouTube video link. “Saturday Morning”. | SPECIAL EPISODE - Celebrating 2 Million Downloads! | 15 Aug 2024 | 00:03:42
This is a Very Special Episode celebrating that we’ve just passed 2 million downloads for the podcast! I started the podcast in March 2021 during the depths of the pandemic, with no audience at all. It took two years to reach 1 million downloads but just one more year to reach 2 million. I’m extremely thankful for all the wonderful guests that I’ve had, and so appreciative of my audience for your support. When I began the podcast my goal was to motivate and encourage my listeners to follow their dream, whatever it may be, just as I had followed my youthful music dream later in life. It was only after I turned 60 that I was finally able to devote myself entirely to music. Since then I’ve released 14 acclaimed albums including a Billboard #1. I’ve also written a best selling book and started this podcast. As I like to say, you’re never too old, and it’s never too late, to follow your dream. My guests have been an amazing assortment of talented and successful musicians and other creatives. I’ve become friends with many of them. And, the icing on the cake is that I’ve been able to collaborate musically with a number of them. I hope that you continue to enjoy this podcast and my music, as we look forward to 3 million downloads. My featured song is “Metro Shuffle” from the album The PGS Experience by my band Project Grand Slam. This song features the great Mindi Abair on sax and has become more or less the official theme song of the podcast. | SPECIAL EPISODE IN SUPPORT OF ISRAEL | 11 Oct 2023 | 00:04:45
This past weekend witnessed the worst terrorist attack ever against the State of Israel by Hamas, the Palestinian terror organization. Over a thousand Israelis and others - mostly innocent civilians - were killed and approximately 100 or more Israeli, American and other hostages were taken. The depravity of Hamas is staggering. Women, children and senior citizens - all were targeted. Ironically, it was only a week ago that I featured my song "Tree Of Life" in my episode on protest songs. This is the anti-gun song that I wrote in 2018 in the aftermath of yet another senseless mass shooting, this time at the Tree Of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, PA. How awful that I need to play this song again now in the aftermath of the slaughter that took place in Israel. Please listen and pray for the victims. “Tree Of Life”.
