It's an essential summer event for aficinados, and is jam-packed with amazing artists of all kinds. Marcos called the lineup this year "the best since the 60s". He took a friend new to the flamenco scene to a first of its kind experience of attending the festival and taking it all in. In 1982 a flamenco label - Nuevos Medios - was launched. The person behind it is Mario Pacheco who previously ran a punk label! He releases albums by Diego Carrasco, Pata Negra, classics like Terremoto, live recordings of Jose Merce ... We explore how it all started and Marcos's discussion on flamenco with Mario when they met at a London hotel.

Flamenco fans may have not heard of Alonso Nuñez Nuñez but his artistic name will be familiar - Rancapino. This episode celebrates his style of singing, friendship with Camaron de la Isla, and his legacy with his son Rancapino. For many, 28th February is usually just the last day of the shortest month. But for the province of Andalucia, it’s their own special day! It’s a day of rest, celebrations and even political rallies. Director, photographer, writer – and someone who brought a glimpse of flamenco culture to many across the world. Carlos Saura left us in the beginning of February but his art lives on and it features a myriad of films dedicated to flamenco – we discuss some of them in this episode. Also – the people he worked with and who could be the next director following in his footsteps.

It's an event that dates back to the early 20th century but its tradition lives on today.

The 1922 Alhambra is flamenco's first public competition and in this episode, we discuss its importance, the people who made it happen, who won the competition, and how flamenco festivals are making a return after the pandemic.

Many would call him flamenco's "greatest artist" of the past 300 years. He recorded a song in every single type of cante. He had a legendary partnership with Paco de Lucía. He made Tomatito his guitarist, He recorded what is regarded as the most important record in flamenco - "La Leyenda del Tiempo".

He is Camarón de la Isla.

In this long-anticipated episode, Marcos talks about his life - from the village of San Fernando to the world stages where music took him, his most impactful records, and the new museum that's finally opened in La Isla.
