FFOD349 : Appalachia After Dark / Halloween with Micah Hanks 27 Oct 202601:14:04

Send us Fan Mail

Happy Halloween from the Creepy Camo Cave! This week, we’re listening to a bizarre 911 call from North Carolina that Laureen dug up & I’ll tell you right now, I don’t know WHAT in the world that guy saw, but it sure got my attention!

From there, she takes us deep into the mysterious mountains of Appalachia with her good friend Micah Hanks. Micah is an author, investigative journalist and host of The Micah Hanks Program, and he knows a thing or two about the strange and unexplained. We’re talking about the legendary Brown Mountain Lights, mysterious encounters in the wilderness, and some of the unusual stories that have been passed down through generations in those mountains.

Are there perfectly reasonable explanations for these things? Maybe so. But there’s still plenty out there that can leave a fella scratching his head. This one is a little spooky, but not too scary.

FFOD348 : Telling Shows ~ Remembering Colonel Tom Kelly20 Oct 202600:42:38

Send us Fan Mail

Some people leave behind memories. Others leave behind words that will be remembered for generations. Colonel Tom Kelly left us both. It’s hard to put into words what this man meant to me. He was my mentor, my hero, my friend and one of the finest storytellers the turkey woods have ever known.

For this special episode of Fist Full of Dirt, we’re doing something a little different. Rather than spend an hour telling you about Colonel Kelly, we’re going to let you hear from the man himself. We’ve gathered some of our favorite moments from years past, including Colonel Kelly reading passages from his books and sharing stories from our time together on Hunting the Country.

You’ll hear his wit and his wisdom and that wonderful way he had of putting into words things the rest of us could only feel. There will never be another Colonel Tom Kelly. But how fortunate we are that he left us so much of himself in the stories he told.

Thank you, Colonel.

For everything.

FFOD347 : From the Octagon to the Deer Stand with Tim Sylvia13 Oct 202600:53:24

Send us Fan Mail

This week on Fist Full of Dirt, we’re catching up with an old friend who knows a thing or two about throwing punches and chasing big deer. Tim “The Maine-iac” Sylvia is a former UFC heavyweight champion, but there’s a whole lot more to this guy than what you saw inside the Octagon. Tim and I are digging into his upbringing, his MMA career and his lifelong love of hunting.

Turns out, there’s a pretty good reason a “redneck from Maine” decided to put down roots in Iowa. (Those big Midwest whitetails might have had a little something to do with it.) I think y’all are going to enjoy getting to know the outdoorsman behind the fighter. Thanks for listening.

FFOD346 : It’s All Good, Just Hunt06 Oct 202600:53:24

Send us Fan Mail

Sometimes we sit down in the Cave with a guest and a plan. This week, we just sat down and started talking. I’ve got some catching up to do after the Foxhole Shootout, so we’ll talk about what happened, who showed up and some of the stories that came out of it. Then somehow we wander into something I’ve been seeing all over social media lately … apparently bullying Boomers has become a trend. As one of them, I figured I ought to weigh in.

No guest this week.. just a visit about hunting, getting older, social media and trying not to take any of it too seriously. At the end of the day, most of the noise doesn’t really matter. Get outside. Spend time with people you care about. It’s all good. Just hunt.

FFOD345 : Mountains of Faith with Billy Molls29 Sep 202601:16:37

Send us Fan Mail

This week I’m glad to welcome our friend Billy Molls back to Fist Full of Dirt. A lot of folks know Billy as the Modern Day Mountain Man, and after a lifetime of guiding & hunting some of the wildest places on earth… he’s got enough stories to keep us here awhile.

We talk about some of those adventures and the lessons that can only come from pushing yourself physically and spending time in wild places. But we also go a little deeper into Billy’s walk with God and how his faith has shaped the man, husband, father and hunter he is today. I’ve always believed there’s something about being in God’s creation that can straighten out your priorities pretty quick. Billy understands that as well as anybody.

FFOD344 : More Years in the Woods22 Sep 202601:10:27

Send us Fan Mail

This week I'm back with Dr. Warren Strickland, but we're changing gears a little. Last time we talked about his incredible bowhunting career. This time, we're putting his years of experience as a cardiologist to good use.

We're talking about heart health, taking care of ourselves and some things we all need to be paying a little more attention to as we get older. I know a lot of us spend plenty of time worrying about our hunting equipment, our food plots and getting ready for the next season…  but how much time do we spend taking care of ourselves? I want every one of you to have many, many more years in the woods and on the water. This is an important conversation, and I'm mighty glad Dr. Strickland took the time to have it with us.

FFOD343 : What an Outfitter Knows with Kevin Burleson15 Sep 202601:04:16

Send us Fan Mail

This week I’m catching up with my friend Kevin Burleson from Heart of Texas Bowhunting. Kevin has been outfitting hunters for decades and has probably seen just about everything that can happen when you put a bowhunter in the woods. We talk about some of the things that can make the difference between a good hunt and a frustrating one. We also talk about Heart of Texas and how Kevin has worked to give everyday bowhunters an opportunity to experience some incredible Texas hunting without breaking the bank.

FFOD342 : That Tuesday Morning08 Sep 202600:54:35

Send us Fan Mail

I don’t think any of us will ever forget where we were on the morning of September 11, 2001. My oldest daughter Amy was just out of college and traveling for work near Washington, D.C. when the attacks began. When the Pentagon was hit, airports across the country closed and Washington started shutting down. Her husband Kevin and I did the only thing we knew to do. We got in my truck in Mississippi and went to get her.

For this episode, Lauran sat down with Amy and me and asked us to tell the story of that day from our own perspectives. Neither of us heard what the other had said. She’s taken those conversations and woven them together with the actual news broadcasts from that morning as everything unfolded in real time. Twenty five years later, there are things about that day I remember like they happened yesterday. This is our family’s story of that Tuesday morning and one I don’t think any of us will ever forget.

FFOD341 : On His Own Terms with Dr. Warren Strickland01 Sep 202601:36:36

Send us Fan Mail

This week I sit down with one of the most interesting men I’ve ever had the pleasure of visiting with, Dr. Warren Strickland. Warren is a renowned cardiologist, a world class sporting clays shooter and one of the few bowhunters to complete the archery Super Slam. His hunting career and accomplishments would be impressive enough on their own, but it’s the way he’s gone about it that caught my attention.

We talk about getting started without a mentor and a lifetime spent simply trying to be the best he could be. No audience. No need for attention. Just quietly doing things on his own terms.

FFOD340 : Whitetails From a Different View25 Aug 202601:22:27

Send us Fan Mail

Every now and then I sit down with somebody and realize pretty quick we’re probably going to need more time. Derrick Dixon was one of those guys. This week we’re talking about how Derrick found his way into the outdoor world and eventually into whitetail research. And he’s doing some of that research in a way I never would’ve dreamed of years ago… with drones.

We get into what he’s learning by looking at deer from a completely different perspective, how this technology is being used in research and what it may teach us about an animal most of us have spent a lifetime trying to understand. We ran long on this one and could’ve easily kept going. Derrick is an interesting guy with a great story and I think you’re going to enjoy meeting him as much as I did.

FFOD339 : Old Friends & Fishing Holes18 Aug 202601:14:58

Send us Fan Mail

This week I’ve got an old friend in the camo cave, Rick Dillard. Rick and I go back a long way. Some of you Hunting the Country viewers may even remember him from a few shows way back when.

Rick is a fisheries biologist with the U.S. Forest Service and has spent his career working with fish and wildlife, but his love for the outdoors started long before it became his profession. We talk about his grandmother taking him fishing when he was a little boy, pick his brain on pond management and what it takes to grow and manage good fish, and reminisce about some of those early Mossy Oak and Hunting the Country days. Rick has been a friend for many years, and it sure was good having him sitting across from me telling stories again.

FFOD338 : A Conversation with Governor Phil Bryant 11 Aug 202601:08:20

Send us Fan Mail

This week I sit down with my friend, former Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant. Most folks know Phil from his years in public service, but I’ve always known him as someone who genuinely loves the outdoors, our hunting traditions and this great country. We talk about where that passion began, how hunting and conservation have shaped his life and why it’s important to have leaders who understand the values of the people they serve. Thank you for listening!

FFOD337 : We Hunt Too with Lou Hill & Dr. Stacey P. Gill04 Aug 202601:12:23

Send us Fan Mail

This week I had the pleasure of sitting down with Lou Hill and Dr. Stacey P. Gill of WeHunt2 WeFish2. I first met these guys through our shared love of the outdoors and it didn’t take long to realize we had a whole lot more in common than hunting and fishing. We talk about how they found their way into the outdoors, why they’re so passionate about introducing others to it and what hunting and fishing have meant to their lives. They’re doing a great job of encouraging folks to get outside and experience everything God’s creation has to offer.

I’ve always believed there’s room for everybody in the outdoors. The more people we can introduce to hunting, fishing, and conservation, the better off we’ll all be.

FFOD336 : Crossing the Line with Bart Adams28 Jul 202600:59:16

Send us Fan Mail

This week I’m visiting with Bart Adams, an attorney, prosecutor, former municipal judge and he also happens to be a turkey thug. We’re talking about how hunters can find themselves on the wrong side of the law. Sometimes it’s an honest mistake. Sometimes it’s poor judgment. And sometimes somebody knowingly crosses the line. Bart shares his perspective from years spent in the courtroom and public service. Good info to know before you head into the woods.

FFOD335 : Let’s Go Outside21 Jul 202600:51:10

Send us Fan Mail

This week I’m talking about something that’s been on my mind for a while.. getting kids outside. It doesn’t have to be a hunting trip or a fishing trip. Sometimes it’s as simple as taking a walk in the woods or turning over rocks in a creek. (Or looking for a big, hairy Cryptid, if you know you know.)  As I look back on raising kids and watching my grandkids grow up some of my favorite memories started with one simple decision .. let’s go outside.

FFOD334 : Asking Tractor Mike14 Jul 202601:00:28

Send us Fan Mail

This week I’m joined by Mike Wiles, better known online as Ask Tractor Mike. Whether you own a compact tractor, an old farm tractor or you’re thinking about buying your first one.. this episode is full of practical advice.

We cover tractor safety, common mistakes, implements, buying advice and a whole lot more. With so many of us spending time working our food plots, farms and hunting properties, I wanted to hear from someone who’s spent a lifetime around tractors. If you’ve ever climbed into the seat of a tractor (or plan to) this conversation is well worth your time. Thanks for listening!

FFOD333 : Not a Single Critter07 Jul 202600:47:45

Send us Fan Mail

Sometimes I think we take ourselves (and our hunting and fishing) a little too seriously. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had the passion and been completely consumed by it. But if I had to rank my most precious outdoor memories.. I don’t think a single critter would make the top 50 list.

I’ll admit, at my age my memory bank is pretty loaded, so I may have an unfair advantage. Most of those memories happened around a hunting or fishing trip, camp, or gathering, which speaks volumes all by itself. This week I’m taking a trip back through some of those memories, sharing the stories behind them and why they’ve stayed with me all these years.

FFOD332 : Becoming an Asset with Ted Nugent30 Jun 202600:53:36

Send us Fan Mail

This week I’m joined by my longtime friend and blood brother, Ted Nugent, for one of the most candid conversations we’ve ever had. With Independence Day right around the corner, we talked about much more than hunting. Ted shares how his upbringing shaped the man he became, why he believes every one of us should strive to be an asset to our families, communities, and country, and the values that have guided him throughout his life.

We also discuss his recent inductions into both the Legends of the Outdoors Hall of Fame and the Michigan Outdoor Hall of Fame, what those honors mean to him, and why his greatest accomplishments have very little to do with awards.

FFOD331 : How We Got Hunting on the Golf Channel23 Jun 202601:00:15

Send us Fan Mail

This week I’m pulling back the curtain on one of the most unique projects Mossy Oak has ever launched, Second Season. Back when the show first aired on the Golf Channel, the idea of blending golf and hunting audiences was anything but a sure thing. Looking back now, it seems obvious. Back then, it felt a little crazy. Somehow, through a lot of hard work and great people.. it all came together.

This week I’m sharing the story behind the show, the people who made it happen, the challenges we faced, and why the crossover between golf and hunting was far more significant than most people realized. There are a few behind the scenes stories in here that I think you’ll enjoy.

FFOD330 : Fathers, Mentors & Heroes16 Jun 202601:01:22

Send us Fan Mail

This week’s episode is all about fathers. With Father’s Day upon us, we asked our listeners to share stories about the men who shaped their lives, and y’all delivered.

Some of these stories are about great dads. Others are about grandfathers, mentors & coaches who stepped in when they were needed most. Some take place in deer camps and dove fields..  others have nothing to do with hunting at all. But every one of them reminds us how powerful a good man’s influence can be.

Lauran and I read your stories and found ourselves laughing one minute and fighting back tears the next. This is one of the most heartfelt episodes we’ve ever done. To all the fathers, father figures and mentors out there.. thank you for the example you set. Happy Father’s Day.

FFOD329 : What Every Outdoorsman Should Know About Alpha-Gal Part 209 Jun 202600:56:18

Send us Fan Mail

Last week’s conversation about Alpha-Gal syndrome generated a lot of interest.. so we’re back with Part 2. Once again, I’m joined by Dr. David Allen, a healthcare professional who has personally lived with Alpha-Gal for more than two decades.

In this episode, we dive deeper into the realities of living with Alpha-Gal, including common misconceptions, hidden triggers, long-term outlook, prevention strategies, and what every hunter and outdoor enthusiast should understand about tick-borne illnesses. We also discuss why cases continue to rise and what steps you can take to protect yourself and your family while enjoying the outdoors. If you spend any amount of time in the woods (or heck, outside) this is information worth knowing.

We’ve been hearing more and more about Alpha-gal syndrome and because so many of us spend our lives outdoors, I wanted to spend some time digging into this important topic. So this week I’m joined by Dr. David Allen, a healthcare professional who has personally lived with Alpha-gal syndrome for more than two decades. That unique perspective gives him insight not only as a medical expert, but as someone who understands the actual challenges that come with this condition.

FFOD327 : Be Kind & Shoot Turkeys with Scott Branca26 May 202601:02:01

Send us Fan Mail

This week I’m sitting down with Scott Branca from Branca Boys Spurs. Most turkey hunters know Scott from his incredible replica spur creations and custom knives but there’s a whole lot more to the man than craftsmanship.

We talked turkeys .. how a hunt back in 1994 changed his life forever and why turkey hunting gets so deep in a man’s soul. Scott is one of those humble, steady people you’re thankful to know. The kind of man who quietly pours his heart into everything he creates. I believe y’all are really gonna enjoy this conversation.

This week I’m sitting down with the guys from Great Plains Ag to talk summer food plots. Folks tend to overthink it sometimes, but the truth is it doesn’t have to be complicated. Heck… I did it.

We’re talking timing, planting tips, mistakes to avoid, and ways to make your property better without turning it into a full time job. If you’ve been thinking about putting in a summer plot but weren’t sure where to start, this one’s for you.

FFOD325 : He Thought He Was Getting a Phone Call12 May 202601:09:03

Send us Fan Mail

This week’s episode is a little different and it’s one that means a whole lot to me. A few weeks ago I got a message from a family down in Georgia about a man named Jeff Daniel who was going through one of the hardest seasons of his life after losing his wife earlier this year. They thought maybe a short phone call from me might lift his spirits a little.

Instead, I loaded up and drove to Georgia. What followed was one of the most meaningful weekends I’ve had in a long time. We shared supper, swapped stories and hunted together the next morning. But what I didn’t fully realize until later was just how much that time meant to Jeff and his family.

Without me knowing it, “Laureen” reached out to Jeff’s grandson Clint and recorded their side of the story and hearing it for the first time on this podcast reminded me that sometimes the greatest part of hunting has very little to do with the hunt itself.

FFOD324 : Miles Apart05 May 202600:48:19

Send us Fan Mail

This week I’m in the middle of the spring turkey run, and it’s been a good one. I’m sharing two hunts that couldn’t have been more different… but both meant a lot.

First, a road trip out to Nebraska with two of my grandsons where Cranky wrapped up his Grand Slam. There’s nothing like watching that happen and being there for it. Then, back closer to home, an unexpected hunt with my youngest daughter, Lauran. No big plans, no pressure.. just time together in the turkey woods. (And we made it count!) Two hunts, two stories and a reminder that it’s not always about the distance traveled or the tag filled, it’s about who you’re with when it happens.

FFOD323 : Dr. Disturbance Can Flat-Out Hunt Part 228 Apr 202601:03:30

Send us Fan Mail

This week we’re back with Part 2 of my conversation with Dr. Marcus Lashley, better known as Dr. Disturbance. Last week we got into plenty of turkey talk and this week we’re picking right back up where we left off.

Marcus has spent a lifetime studying wild turkeys but what I enjoy most is talking to him as a hunter. There’s a difference between knowing about turkeys and knowing how to hunt them.. and Marcus brings both to the table. We covered more strategy and stories so if you enjoyed Part 1, you’re gonna love part 2.

This week I’m sitting down with Dr. Marcus Lashley, better known to many of y’all as Dr. Disturbance. Most folks want to talk science, biology and research when they sit down with Marcus. That’s all good and well, but I wanted to talk TURKEY HUNTING.

And let me tell you something… this man knows his way around the woods. We swapped stories, talked hunting strategy and what years in the woods will teach you. Marcus is sharp as they come, but he’s also the real deal when it comes to chasing longbeards.

FFOD321 : God Bless Texas | Rios Recap & a Sit Down with “Cranky”14 Apr 202600:53:19

God bless Texas. In this episode, I’m recapping a special trip down to the Lone Star State, starting with a hunt alongside the winner of the Foxhole Shootout Auction and then heading to Heart of Texas with my three grandsons.

The highlight? My youngest grandson Ben (better known as “Cranky”) joining the brotherhood.  He was able to harvest his 2nd Rio, but this time he called all the shots. This one’s special.

FFOD320 : The 10 Commandments of Turkey Hunting - Part 2 07 Apr 202600:56:48

Send us Fan Mail

After sharing the first five, it’s time to finish the list. In Part 2 of the “10 Commandments of Turkey Hunting,” I’m covering commandments six through ten…  the rest of the tongue-in-cheek lessons the spring woods have taught me over the years. If you’ve spent any time chasing turkeys, you’ll probably recognize yourself in more than one of these. And if you’re new to it, maybe these last five commandments will save you a little frustration… or at least give you something to laugh about when things don’t go as planned.

FFOD319 : The 10 Commandments of Turkey Hunting - Part 1 31 Mar 202601:00:49

Send us Fan Mail

After the overwhelming response to my NWTF Convention talk, I figured I’d bring the “10 Commandments of Turkey Hunting” straight to the podcast. These aren’t hardcore how to rules… they’re the tongue-in-cheek lessons and humorous truths you only learn in the turkey woods. In Part 1, I’m sharing the first five commandments. They’ll hopefully make you laugh, nod your head and probably remind you of a hunt that didn’t go quite as planned. Whether you’ve chased gobblers for decades or you’re just getting started, these stories will hit home.

Send us Fan Mail

This week I’m sharing my account of the Mossy Oak 2026 Veterans Hunt down in south Florida. These hunts are always special. It’s time spent with men who’ve given more than most of us ever will. I’ve got a lot of admiration for these warriors and what they represent. Grateful for everyone who helps make it happen and for all of you who continue to support it.

FFOD317 : The Secret Sauce : Bo Prestidge17 Mar 202601:18:41

Send us Fan Mail

We’re wrapping up the Secret Sauce series with a man I’ve known a long time and respected even longer, Bo Prestidge.

Bo is a longtime friend, a Mossy Oak brother, a farmer, outfitter and a true student of the land. From his early days in Tyronza, Arkansas, to building a farming operation in Mississippi and growing Wildlife, Inc. into one of the most respected hunting destinations in the country, Bo has spent a lifetime learning what the land, the birds and the seasons have to teach. As with every episode in this series, I asked Bo the same 20 questions I’ve asked some of the best turkey hunters around.  Bo brings a perspective that is deeply rooted in a love of the outdoor life.

Send us Fan Mail

The Secret Sauce series rolls on and this week I’m sitting down with one of my favorite turkey hunters on the planet, Fred Law. Fred has spent a lifetime in the turkey woods and decades guiding deer and turkey hunters in south Alabama. When you’ve guided that many hunters (year after year) you learn things you can’t get from a book or a highlight reel. Fred has seen just about every mistake, every success and every kind of turkey behavior you can imagine. As part of the Secret Sauce series, I asked Fred the same 20 questions I’m asking some of the best turkey hunters in the country. Different backgrounds, different styles, same questions. Are y’all enjoying the series?

FFOD315 : Honoring Mr. Fox 02 Mar 202601:09:43

Send us Fan Mail

This week we pause our Secret Sauce series to remember a man who meant a great deal to us.. Mr. Fox Haas.

In the days since his passing, I’ve heard from people across the country who felt connected to him through stories, photos and the adventures his family so generously shared. That connection speaks to the kind of man he was.

At the recent NWTF Convention, the long lines of people wanting something connected to Mr. Fox said it all. He made people feel special. In this episode, I’m telling my favorite Mr. Fox stories also recapping the convention with our turkey hunting family. (You guys)

It’s not easy to say goodbye, but it’s comforting to know that Mr. Fox’s influence will carry on through the family he loved and the countless people he inspired

FFOD314 : The Secret Sauce : Dean “Redbeard” Mundhenke24 Feb 202601:03:18

Send us Fan Mail

The Secret Sauce series keeps rolling and in this one I’m visiting with Dean “Redbeard” Mundhenke of Mad Hatter Calls. Dean is a call maker, turkey hunter and one of the most thoughtful minds I’ve ever been around in the turkey woods.  You may recognize him from The Disease, a documentary that perfectly captures the obsession, sacrifice and pull that turkey hunting has on those of us who live for spring mornings.

As part of the Secret Sauce series, I asked Dean the same 20 questions I’m asking some of the best turkey hunters in the country. Same questions. Completely different perspective. If The Disease resonated with you, this conversation will too.

This week we’re bringing back one of my favorite things we do on Fist Full of Dirt .. The Secret Sauce. I ask the same 20 questions to four of the best turkey hunters on the planet. Different regions. Different styles. Different backgrounds. Same questions.

We’re kicking this series off with a legend. Ernie Calandrelli has spent more than 40 years in the turkey woods. He’s a Hall of Fame turkey caller, a master of the wing bone call and for 35 years he helped shape the turkey hunting world as the Public Relations and Pro Staff Director for Quaker Boy Game Calls. Ernie’s forgotten more about turkey hunting than most of us will ever know .. and he’s sharing it in the camo cave. Y’all don’t want to miss this one.

Send us Fan Mail

Every year before a single gobbler sounds off, I like to visit with someone who truly understands turkeys and the people who chase them. For me, that’s Dave Owens of The Pinhoti Project. Dave is a champion turkey caller, a teacher at heart and one of the most respected voices in turkey hunting today. Through his videos, storytelling and honesty.. he’s helped countless hunters become better in the woods. This episode has become a bit of a tradition around here. Y’all settle in..  spring is coming.

FFOD311 : Follow Your Calling with Chris Kirby03 Feb 202601:11:02

Send us Fan Mail

Hard to believe it’s been 50 years, because I remember when this all started.

This week I’m visiting with Chris Kirby of Quaker Boy, a turkey calling champion, Hall of Famer and the man now carrying the torch for a company built by his father Dick Kirby. We talk about honoring his dad and what it means to follow something you were truly *called* to do. From competition stages to call-making benches to spring mornings in the woods, this episode is about legacy and staying true to your roots while leading the next chapter.

If you appreciate the stories behind the brands that shaped turkey hunting, you gotta hear this one.

FFOD310 : Why Tungsten Changed Turkey Hunting27 Jan 202601:13:11

Send us Fan Mail

This week on Fist Full of Dirt, I sit down with Jared Lewis, one of the cofounders of Apex Ammunition, and Boomer Brown, to talk about turkey loads, tungsten shot and why Apex has earned the trust of so many serious turkey hunters.

We get into how Apex got started, what separates tungsten from traditional shot and how current tariffs are affecting the cost and availability of ammo. I learned a lot from this discussion, and I think any turkey hunter who cares about doing things right (and being prepared for what’s ahead) will too.

FFOD309 :  Colonel Tom Kelly is my Dad - a conversation with Laura Bates20 Jan 202601:06:48

Send us Fan Mail

Colonel Tom Kelly never set out to write a classic. He set out to tell honest stories about the turkey woods, the people in them and the moments that stay with you long after the season ends. This week we’re joined by Kelly’s daughter, Laura Bates, for a conversation about the man behind the words and the unlikely path of Tenth Legion… a book that began as a self-published, (and later bootlegged) favorite passed hand to hand among hunters and became one of the most influential works in turkey hunting literature.

Laura shares what it was like growing up alongside her father’s writing life, the humor and humility that shaped his work. We also talk about the upcoming Bootleg Revival Edition of Tenth Legion, why it’s a faithful recreation rather than a modern reprint, and what it means to carry these stories forward for the next generation.

FFOD308 :  Winning Seasons 13 Jan 202601:25:36

Send us Fan Mail

This week’s episode wasn’t planned. It happened the way the best things always do… at hunting camp, surrounded by old friends and stories that get better with time. I sat down with two of my best buddies.. Charlie O’Brien, former Major League Baseball catcher with 20 years in the big leagues and a World Series ring, and also a Mossy Oak Deer Thug; and Bubba Bruce (known to most folks as “Just Bubba”) a Mossy Oak Turkey Thug and my lifelong friend from back home who’s been there for it all.

We weren’t chasing a topic or a message. We were swapping stories, laughing, remembering where we came from and enjoying the kind of fellowship that only comes from shared miles, hunts and history. The stories were too good to keep to ourselves, so we pulled out the podcast equipment and let it roll.

FFOD307 :  Who Speaks for Hunters? (with Keith Mark of Hunter Nation) 06 Jan 202600:58:52

Send us Fan Mail

This week I sit down with Keith Mark of Hunter Nation to talk about something every hunter should care about… protecting our way of life. We cover why hunting is facing more pressure than ever, how decisions made outside the woods affect what happens in them and why staying informed and engaged matters. Keith explains what Hunter Nation is doing to defend access, support science-based wildlife management and keep hunters at the table.

This isn’t about politics, it’s about stewardship, responsibility and making sure the traditions we love don’t quietly slip away.

I threw a simple question out there, “what’s the best, funniest or most meaningful name you’ve ever given a deer stand or hunting spot?” and y’all absolutely showed up. For our final episode of the year, we’re reading some of your stories and getting reminded why these places mean so much to us. Behind every name is a memory, a person, a season or a lesson that sticks out.

As we close out the year, I just want to say thank you for listening, sharing and being part of the Fist Full of Dirt family. Wishing you and yours a safe, blessed and Happy New Year. We’ll see you in 7 days!

FFOD305 : The 4-Point on My Wall23 Dec 202500:52:00

Send us Fan Mail

There’s only one deer in my office. It’s a small four point… my bride’s first deer. And it took her several seasons to get there. She passed deer. She waited. She had to walk her own path.

When I shared that story online, the comments poured in. Stories. Memories. Gratitude. People defining what a “trophy” really means to them … first deer, hunts with parents who are gone now, kids in the stand.

This episode is built entirely around those responses and if you’ve ever questioned whether your deer “counted,” or felt pressure to measure your hunt against someone else’s highlight reel.. this one’s for you.

FFOD304 : The Boys Who Call Me Pop 16 Dec 202501:16:49

“Laureen” recently sat down with Walker, Matt and Cranky in the Camo Cave and put them all on the mic.  They swapped stories from all the years we’ve spent together outside, talked about what they’ve learned and opened up in a way they never would’ve with me in the room. I’m hearing this one fresh with all of you, and from what I’m told, there’s plenty of laughter mixed in with the nostalgia. This one’s full of memories, lessons, and a whole lot of heart from the boys who made me “Pop.”

FFOD303 : From Swamps to Supper - Wild Game with Jason Thornton09 Dec 202501:13:39

Send us Fan Mail

This week I’m visiting with Jason Thornton, better known as The Edible Outdoors Cook. Jason grew up hunting and fishing in the heart of south Louisiana and he lives the kind of lifestyle most folks dream about. Waterfowl, whitetails, crappie, redfish, shrimping… if it comes from the land or the water, his family is putting it on the table.

We dig into how he handles wild game in the kitchen, the traditions he grew up with and how he feeds friends and family with the bounty he works hard to harvest. Jason’s a husband, a dad, a Marine veteran, and a man who takes pride in doing things the right way. This conversation is full of knowledge for anyone who wants to cook better, waste less and honor what they bring home.

FFOD301 : Fist Full of Gratitude ~ Listener Memories & Yaya’s Turkey Day Truths25 Nov 202501:04:16

Send us Fan Mail

This week we’re sitting in the camo cave feeling mighty thankful. We just hit 300 episodes, so I asked listeners to tell me which moments meant the most to them… and the responses stopped me in my tracks. Your stories, your encouragement and your memories from three hundred shows reminded me exactly why we started this journey. We wrap things up with a rare visit from Yaya, who shares some of her Thanksgiving kitchen rules, dealbreakers and a few tips she swears by.

This episode is simple on purpose. It’s about the folks who’ve supported us, grown with us and kept this campfire burning for over five years. I’m grateful for every download, every message and every one of you tuning in. Happy Thanksgiving!
