| 319: A Talent for Giving: Creating a More Generous Society for All | 04 Dec 2025 | 00:46:42 | |
The world around us has transformed dramatically—but has philanthropy kept up? For our Finding Brave guest today, John Studzinski, American-British investor and humanitarian and the author of the new book A Talent for Giving: Creating a More Generous Society that Benefits Everyone, this question isn't academic—it's deeply personal. His philanthropic journey began humbly, volunteering at a soup kitchen as a teenager. Today, he's recognized globally for transformative work addressing homelessness through London's Passage Day Centre and championing emerging artists through the Genesis Foundation. In the U.S., he serves on the boards of The J. Paul Getty Trust, St. Patrick's Cathedral, and the Foundation for Art and Preservation in Embassies (FAPE) and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. In this inspiring conversation, John shares his views on how the true meaning of philanthropy has been lost and how it needs to transform to inspire the next generation to make a more meaningful impact. John tells us about his book and how it has helped inspire individuals to spend the gift of time serving the common good. From the power and importance of human connection to the essential need for empathy, John shares the critical lessons he hopes readers will take from his book. We discuss why giving is not very beneficial unless we understand how, at the same time, to receive. John walks us through how he manages his time in order to be of service to his communities the way he does. John goes on to explain what he believes would happen to humanity if people stopped giving and caring about the community. And he teaches us that so much of our dignity is dependent on what we've given instead of what we've spent or kept. If you have the desire to contribute in new ways and give of your talents and abilities to support the common good, this conversation will inspire you to action. Every person on this planet has authority that can be used for the common good, and leveraging those strengths and talents for the benefit of our communities is not only rewarding but deeply instrumental and meaningful.

| 219: Part 1: Why Happy People Are Annoying, with Josh Peck | 17 Mar 2022 | 00:22:09 | |
Thank you for listening to our Finding Brave show, ranked in the Top 100 Apple Career Podcasts! "The whole book is about me finding happiness in my own way, and what it looked like for someone like me to walk through what I did, be it losing 100 pounds, or facing drug and alcohol addiction and then eventually pivoting in my career. It was all of these things that allowed me to find what happiness was for me, and then redefine it." - Josh Peck Today's Finding Brave guest shares his view that happiness is beside the point, and life is really all about finding contentment through relationships, curiosity, and connection. He is ready to chip away at the glitz and glamor to expose the highs and lows of his journey as an actor and influencer, and I could not be more excited to share this candid and thought-provoking conversation with you today. Josh Peck has established himself as one of Hollywood's rising talents, making the transition from child actor to leading man, and social media influencer. Best known for his role on the Nickelodeon phenomenon Drake & Josh (2004-2007) for which he received a Kids' Choice Nomination, Peck has starred in feature films such as Mean Creek alongside Rory Culkin, The Wackness beside Ben Kingsley, Red Dawn alongside Chris Hemsworth, Danny Collins with Al Pacino, Annette Benning, and Jennifer Garner, Take The 10 with Andy Samberg and Fred Armisen, and Netflix's The Musical, co-starring Debra Messing, out later this year. In 2023, Josh will co-star in Christopher Nolan's new movie, Oppenheimer. Currently, Peck is featured in Disney Plus' Turner and Hooch series, a continuation of the 1989 Tom Hanks film of the same name, and stars in the highly anticipated Hulu series, How I Met Your Father, and in the iCarly Reboot on Paramount+. With 32.8 million fans across numerous social media platforms, Peck successfully leveraged his talents from acting, to podcasting and more, and is the author of the new memoir Happy People Are Annoying, out in bookstores March 15th. His book is a candid memoir sharing Josh's reflections on the many stumbles and silver linings of his life and traces a zigzagging path to redemption. I have a great deal of gratitude for Josh for the very happy memories I have – of the hours of hilarity my children and I experienced together, watching Drake & Josh. Those are precious memories for me. His unique style of humor - with such exuberance, joy and insight - is a gift to the world. Check out the full 2-part series with Josh, as he gives us a deep look at what he's learned about the true meaning of happiness. Thank you for listening to our Finding Brave show, ranked in the Top 100 Apple Career Podcasts! "We have to be really honest with ourselves, which I think is sometimes the hardest part. We have to really ask ourselves if we are happy in what we're doing. Are we actually enjoying this, or do we really not like what we're doing? Deep honesty [with ourselves] is where beautiful things come from." - Stu Massengill If you're feeling lost and wanting to find direction, our inspiring Finding Brave guest shares so much wisdom in this episode, and at such a relatively young age! We cover some of the same issues and topics in the work that we both do, but in a different way with unique perspectives and "lenses," and I can't wait for you to meet him and learn from him today. Stu Massengill is on a mission to change the statistic from 80% of people not loving what they do to 80% of people falling in love with what they do! I've seen from working with thousands of people around the world that when we approach life in enlivening, self-affirming ways and become more of who we really are, we are much better equipped to successfully thrive through the tough times, as Stu has. It was so refreshing to hear his overarching message that we should never settle for anything less than a life we love, and not wait a single second longer to pursue what it is that you really want to do in this life. Thank you for listening to our Finding Brave show, ranked in the Top 100 Apple Career Podcasts! "In the process of networking, you hone your story. You actually get a better idea of what you're trying to convey, how people are reacting to it, and how you need to modify it over time to become even better at telling your story." - Pat Hedley Experts in the career, business and entrepreneurial space have said that your network is everything, but many people have a somewhat negative view of networking, viewing it as transactional, perhaps even unnecessary, and certainly burdensome. Today's Finding Brave expert guest reframes networking as something that is essential, accessible, and life-affirming. Thank you for listening to our Finding Brave show, ranked in the Top 100 Apple Career Podcasts! "People give up too quickly. They start a campaign and do SEO or paid ads, and if it doesn't work out in the first month or two, or even three months, they stop. Again, you need to do something consistently for at least 6 months to a year in marketing online, and it gets better over time when you can fine tune it." - Neil Patel As an entrepreneur or owner of a business of any size, driving more traffic, sales, and leads is of the utmost importance. These are areas that I am always keen to learn more about, and today's Finding Brave expert guest is just the person to teach us effective ways to build a brand, maximize exposure, and gain recognition for the products and services that we sell. | 214: Thriving in Entertainment for 30+ Years - Keys to Artistic Success, with Siobhan Fallon Hogan | 10 Feb 2022 | 00:46:38
Thank you for listening to our Finding Brave show, ranked in the Top 100 Apple Career Podcasts! "The reason why I wrote so many one-woman shows over the years, and then I would always get films, is because it's almost like dating. My mother used to say start dating a few guys and another guy will see you out at dinner, and that guy will then ask you out. Work begets work, but there were dry periods where I thought it was all over." - Siobhan Fallon Hogan I've interviewed a lot of amazing individuals on this podcast and for my Forbes blog, including Pulitzer Prize winners and top leaders from around the world in all kinds of fascinating industries, and today's guest is no exception. Today's Finding Brave guest has been thriving in the entertainment industry for many years now, and in this episode, she reveals the lessons that you can take from her life's journey and apply to all areas of your life to great success. For over thirty years, Siobhan Fallon Hogan has been one of the most iconic and recognizable working character actresses, appearing in blockbuster comedies (Men in Black) as frequently as independents (Dancer in the Dark, Dogville). Now, for the first time, Fallon Hogan is appearing in a lead role, starring as the tortured yet deeply relatable (and often funny) matriarch in the thriller, Rushed, which she wrote and produced. Fallon Hogan's first role was in Golden Girls, and she has appeared in (or had featured roles in) Saturday Night Live, Seinfeld, Forrest Gump, and many more TV shows and films. Her film Rushed features Fallon Hogan's friends and family in her hometown of Rumson, New Jersey—and serves as a capstone to one of the most unsung careers in Hollywood. For decades, the talents of character actresses like Fallon Hogan have gone overlooked, which is in part why she decided to write and produce this female-directed (and casted and edited) film. It is the story of Barbara O'Brien (Fallon Hogan), an Irish Catholic mother living in upstate New York who says her rosary daily, then swears profusely as she drives her kids to school. After her life is ruined when her son Jimmy, a college freshman, is involved in a fraternity hazing incident, Barbara resorts to extreme measures. Personally speaking, I found it riveting, relatable and a deeply moving film. Siobhan is someone who has created her own luck through a lot of hard work and a continued, unwavering belief in herself and her talents and abilities, and it was such a pleasure to have her join me for a conversation on this podcast. I've so enjoyed Siobhan's work over the years, and loved her new movie Rushed. We would be thrilled if you'd check out Rushed and let us know how this powerful story resonates with you. It's a story I believe that all mothers will relate to strongly, as well as those who've been through any kind of situation that forced you to do something you've never wanted to, and never dreamed you'd have to. | 213: (Part 2) How Confidence Is the Key, and How You Can Get It, Build It, and Keep It, with Dr. Nate Zinsser | 03 Feb 2022 | 00:31:37
Thank you for listening to our Finding Brave show, ranked in the Top 100 Apple Career Podcasts! "Confidence is an internal process. It's all those decisions and all those conclusions you make. It has relatively little to do with what actually goes on in the world, and it has relatively everything to do with what goes on internally in this space between your ears." - Dr. Nate Zinsser I'm excited to be back for Part 2 in our Finding Brave mini-series on confidence, where my special guest reveals the action steps and mindset shifts needed to overcome obstacles that often get in the way of us building our self-confidence. Nate was a regular consultant to the Philadelphia Flyers and New York Giants for twelve seasons and has been a keynote speaker for General Electric, Facebook, McDonald's, Staples, UBS, Major League Baseball, the NBA, and many more, as well as a consultant for the FBI Academy, the U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program, (mentoring four Olympic medalists), the U.S. Army Recruiting Command, and the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit. Since 1992, he has directed a cutting-edge applied sport psychology program at the United States Military Academy's Center for Enhanced Performance, personally conducting over seventeen thousand individual training sessions and seven hundred team training sessions for cadets seeking the mental edge for athletic, academic, and military performance. He also helped launch the highly successful magazine Sports Illustrated for Kids and was presented with an American Library Association award for his 1991 children's book Dear Dr. Psych: A Kid's Guide to Handling Sports Problems. I truly believe that the work that Nate is doing is necessary for our success and greater wellbeing, and now is the time to make the choice to embrace these methods, follow the principles, and see where they take us. I've already incorporated what Nate shared in this conversation into my own life and work, and I would love to hear how you use the tips and strategies he shares to build your own confidence and self-trust in yourself. | 212: (Part 1) How Confidence Is the Key, and How You Can Get It, Build It, and Keep It, with Dr. Nate Zinsser | 27 Jan 2022 | 00:23:10
Thank you for listening to our Finding Brave show, ranked in the Top 100 Apple Career Podcasts! "Whether you're on an athletic team, a sales force, or a symphony orchestra, you better be honest about what you think about yourself. What you think about yourself and what you think about all the things that happen day by day, that's what constitutes your confidence." - Dr. Nate Zinsser Confidence is a character trait that has relatively little to do with what happens to you, but rather it's a function of how you think. Today's Finding Brave guest reveals how you can change your level of confidence, but first you must be aware of certain things. You absolutely can develop confidence for any situation that you care to, and our guest shares the ways that confident performers think differently from the average person in order to do this. Dr. Nate Zinsser is an expert in the psychology of human performance who consults for individuals and organizations seeking a competitive edge. Nate's latest book, The Confident Mind: A Battle-Tested Guide for Unshakable Performance, hit shelves January 2022, and has been endorsed by two-time Super Bowl Champion and MVP Eli Manning, bestselling authors Jon Krakauer and Steven Pressfield, and US Olympic Bobsled Head Coach Mike Kohn. Thank you for listening to our Finding Brave show, ranked in the Top 100 Apple Career Podcasts! "Sit with the idea of what it would mean for you to take on a worthy goal, become the best version of yourself, and unlock your greatness by taking on the hard things. I'm asking not just for you, but I'm asking for me and my world, because it's a chance for all of us to live a better life." - Michael Bungay Stanier With the new year upon us, what would it mean for you to find and set a worthy goal, something that is thrilling, important, and daunting at the same time? Today's special Finding Brave guest reveals the 3 key components of a worthy goal, what it really means to commit to one, and why we don't have to travel this path alone, because we can ask for support along the way. Michael Bungay Stanier helps people be a force for change. He's best known for his book The Coaching Habit, which has sold close to a million copies and has thousands of 5-star reviews online. His latest book, How to Begin, helps people find the clarity and courage to take on a Worthy Goal and start something thrilling, important and daunting. Balancing out these moments of success, he was banned from his high school graduation for "the balloon incident," was sued by one of his Law School professors for defamation, and his first published piece of writing was a Harlequin Romance-esque story involving a misdelivered letter called The Male Delivery. I encourage you to read Michael's latest (and very enlightening) book and let us know what lessons you glean from it. How has your energy been shifted, and what did you learn? Please feel free to reach out to Michael or me with your feedback and questions about what we discuss in this episode. Here's to your joyful pursuit of your worthy goal!

Quotes: "Stress on its own is not a bad thing. Stress is really important. It's a vital part of life. It saves us from getting hit by cars, it helps us focus on – solving problems. But when stress becomes a way of life instead of a part of life, – that's when we see more of the problems." — Jordan Friedman [0:20:13] "Yes, meditating can help you feel calmer. It can take the edge off [your] stress and anxiety, but if that stress and anxiety continues to flow into your life – you might get into a situation where meditation isn't enough." — Jordan Friedman [0:26:52] "Something we get wrong – is that we're putting band aids on things that need more attention than a band aid." — Jordan Friedman [0:27:25] "We have great control over our fight or flight responses; maybe not initially when we're first slammed with the stressor, but pretty soon after, the way we think about things [and] what we do can help us get back on our feet and move in a clearer, more confident, less stressed way." — Jordan Friedman [0:34:37] "It's not only about changing your life situations to stop the fire hydrant of stress. It's also doing things to – keep your roots solid; breathing, sleeping, exercise, all of it." — Jordan Friedman [0:38:34] "Reliable, predictable things in your life, [like] going to bed and waking up at the same time each day, – will help counter a lot of the lack of predictability that causes so much stress in the world." — Jordan Friedman [0:44:09]

| 208: Holiday Pick: Six Essential Questions for the New Year | 30 Dec 2021 | 00:35:38 | |
Thank you for listening to our Finding Brave show, ranked in the Top 100 Apple Career Podcasts! "You just have to believe that there's a higher version of you that you can tap into and that can access higher-level wisdom, insight, solutions, strategies, people, and connections. If you believe it, and if you believe it strongly, it's amazing what happens in your life." - Kathy Caprino As we approach the end of another year, once again I'll be sharing my "Holiday Picks" selections, featuring some of the top Finding Brave episodes that have previously aired, to help you enter 2022 with even more bravery and motivation to pursue your goals. Today, I'm excited to bring you an episode from late 2018, where I shared a helpful year-end strategy of reflection -- the process of reflecting back on the past year in an in-depth, careful and probing way, exploring all that you've learned and experienced, created, and also "failed" at -- as an effective step to get clearer clear on what you really want in your life. This reflection process helps you connect in a powerful, juicy way with your ultimate dreams and desires, and it highlights where you've been living "off course" - far away from what your most authentic self really wants. In this episode, I explore what I've found to be six essential reflection questions that are perfect for this time of year, to help us take stock, expand our gratitude and appreciation for all that we are today, and set the wheels in motion for shifting our approach to how we operate, communicate, and engage with others and with our core challenges and power gaps. This reflection process hatches important new revelations, and sets the stage for a brand new future. As always, be gentle and compassionate with yourself as you reflect, and remember that everything that's happened can be used to bolster and uplift you, if you let it. At the end of the show, I sing a little song to welcome in the New Year, from my heart to yours. I'd love to hear how your answers to these six questions impact you. And I welcome your suggestions for any future topics or interviewees that you're interested in. Please reach out to me by email, or on social media via LinkedIn, or on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and say hello and share your ideas! I wish you and your family very Happy Holidays and I'm looking forward to serving you fresh, new episodes of Finding Brave in 2022 that will move you forward to create life and work as you dream it to be. Happy New Year!

Thank you for listening to our Finding Brave show, ranked in the Top 100 Apple Career Podcasts! "Self-pity is when you exaggerate how bad your life is. When you start to get helpless, hopeless, and you think there's no hope and life can never get better, you dig in your heels and stay stuck. That's one really simple way to start changing your life and building mental muscle." - Amy Morin As we approach the end of another year, once again I'll be sharing my "Holiday Picks" selections, featuring some of the top Finding Brave episodes that have previously aired, to help you enter 2022 with even more bravery and motivation to pursue your goals. | 204: How To Be a Better Ally at Work And Build an Inclusive Culture, with Karen Catlin | 02 Dec 2021 | 00:45:54
Thank you for listening to our Finding Brave show, ranked in the Top 100 Apple Career Podcasts! "When we don't take action, we become complicit with the status quo, meaning we are ok with how things are, how things are unfolding, and how our culture is. That's why it's important to realize that we all have a role to play to stand up, to move from being a bystander of something to an upstander for what we believe is right." - Karen Catlin Being an ally and building a more inclusive work culture is a job for everyone in the workplace, not just for people who work in Diversity and Inclusion roles. Today's Finding Brave guest shares how being an ally is a journey that starts with a single step, and in this episode, she reveals what we all can do to ensure equality in the workplace, and in all parts of society. After spending 25 years building software products and serving as a vice president of engineering at Adobe, Karen Catlin witnessed a sharp decline in the number of women working in tech. Frustrated but galvanized, she knew it was time to switch gears. There is so much that we're not aware of that gives us benefits and privileges, but as an ally, the more that we can become aware of and explore these seemingly small things, while not judging or avoiding these issues, the better we all will be. I encourage you to review Karen's list, "50 Potential Privileges in the Workplace" that is linked in the show notes for this episode, and explore the emotions that come up for you with each one. The work won't be easy to do, but it is necessary for us to see real change in the world. We also unpack the connection between visibility and self-recognition and how naming your strengths and tracking your accomplishments form the foundation of a strong personal brand. Octavia also offers empowering tips on embracing personal branding without feeling "cringy," even for those who avoid the spotlight, and shares the traits that define her own brand. (And the fascinating responses Octavia offered in answer to my impromptu question her own brand were very enlightening!). Want to learn how to build a memorable personal brand that embodies who you truly are? Tune in today!

Quotes: "Self-promotion can feel so hard, or cringy, or icky. To get past that feeling, we have to connect with ourselves. Before we can talk to anyone else, whether that's a co-worker, or our boss, or our networks about the work that we're doing, we have to recognize our value ourselves." — @OctaviaGoredema [0:05:14] "Personal branding starts with owning your narrative unapologetically." — @OctaviaGoredema [0:16:18] "Growth is so uncomfortable in the moment, but it's so important because that's actually what helps you identify where the misalignment is. You might not be able to snap your fingers and change it immediately, but it's giving you indicators." — @OctaviaGoredema [0:19:50] "Ultimately, what you're doing [in building a personal brand] is embodying who you are and building trust around who you are and what you do. It really is that simple." — @OctaviaGoredema [0:27:03] "If you are investing in [a social media presence], it's not about likes and it's not about the number of followers that you have. It's actually about the authenticity of what you share." — @OctaviaGoredema [0:38:59] "The [real] measure of success is taking the time to privately recognize your progress and to honor that and to celebrate that." — @OctaviaGoredema [0:39:48]

| 199: Award-Winning Mexican Chef and Political Analyst Hosts Groundbreaking PBS Special La Frontera | 28 Oct 2021 | 00:44:58 | |
Thank you for listening to our Finding Brave show, ranked in the Top 100 Apple Career Podcasts! "I wanted to stay connected to my own roots, but I also wanted to open a window so that Americans, or whomever would watch [La Frontera] would understand the Mexico that I missed, that I loved, and that nurtured me and my family so much." - Pati Jinich Today's Finding Brave guest has dedicated her career to building a shared understanding between her two home countries, Mexico and the United States, through the lens of food, culture and community. In this episode, she not only reveals how she is furthering this mission through two new and exciting projects, including a PBS Primetime special, but also shares about the many twists and turns on her beautiful journey that have helped her arrive at where she is today, inspiring, entertaining and educating thousands around the world. Pati Jinich is the James Beard Award-winning Mexican chef whose long running PBS series Pati's Mexican Table has brought Mexican flavors, colors and textures into American homes and kitchens, as viewers have watched Pati thoughtfully and enthusiastically guide them through the various diverse geographic regions of the country. Named one of the "100 Greatest Cooks of All-Time," Pati has won a Gracie Award for her television work, is the resident chef of the Mexican Cultural Institute, has been named one of the "Top 5 Border Ambassadors" by The Council of Americas, and has authored two cookbooks highlighting Mexican cuisine. Her third cookbook, Treasures of the Mexican Table, releases this November and is the culmination of over a decade of travel across her birth country, as she showcases the diversity of Mexican cuisine and sheds light on some lesser known dishes and recipes. Earlier this month, Pati made her PBS Primetime debut as the host of the new culinary travel special, La Frontera, which highlights the fascinating, yet misunderstood, US-Mexico border region where countries and cultures collide. In following Pati's journey since 2014 when I first featured her work in my Forbes column, she has inspired me and so many around the world, with her brilliance, light, creativity and insight. Today on the show, I ask Pati not only about her professional journey but her personal one, and what she believes are keys to achieving the impact and reach she has. Pati's messages inform and inspire us to follow the recommendations she offers: to find work and endeavors that make you proud, to build a solid foundation from which to grow, to continue to hone your skills and knowledge, and most importantly, to commit to doing what feels good and right to you, that is true reflection of all that you are and wish to be. Thank you for listening to our Finding Brave show, ranked in the Top 100 Apple Career Podcasts! "You have to know how [to invest], but personal finance it's not enough just to know how. We also need to be able to take and apply these things we learn and make them real in our lives." - George Grombacher When it comes to money, there seems to be very few people who don't have at least a few struggles associated with it (in earning enough, saving, investing in a smart way, spending it consciously and wisely, and more). As today's Finding Brave expert guest reveals, often the key to overcoming financial challenges ties directly to addressing internal blocks that are holding us back from earning and having exponentially more money. However, it's not enough to just learn about and know what to do specifically with your finances; it's also about knowing how to make these principles real in your life, via a sustainable practice to follow daily. George Grombacher has worked in personal finance for 20 years and has been named a top 100 financial advisor in the US by Investopedia for the past three years. He's working hard to encourage, empower, and entertain others with critical and compelling information to help them create more financial success and live as they wish to. | 197: The 5 Biggest Blunders Career Changers Make | 14 Oct 2021 | 00:37:36
Thank you for listening to our Finding Brave show, ranked in the Top 100 Apple Career Podcasts! "What you want to understand is that before you leap you need to take action to address what is making you so miserable. If you don't do that, you are going to wake up two years later in the new career and you're going to be having the same problems." - Kathy Caprino I haven't released a solo episode on the podcast in some time, but I want to take this opportunity today to talk about something that is so relevant for the people I speak with each day in the career coaching and training work that I do. In this episode, I share the 5 biggest blunders career changers make, and I have to admit that I have made each one of these mistakes myself, which is why I can speak to how easily they can happen if we're not aware of them and making the right decisions and choices. These blunders are costly and take a tremendous toll on your self-esteem, confidence, and your hopes and visions for the future. But there is a way to avoid these career change mistakes, and it starts with remembering that you are an amazing individual with so many important gifts, talents and capabilities to share. The question is how to get on the path to leveraging these talents and abilities in ways that are going to authentically fit who you really are, and what you want for your life, your family and your livelihood. Listen in for a full look at the 5 biggest career change blunders and stay to the end as I reveal the 5 essential steps to take when you want change of any kind, in your career and in any area of your life. As always, thank you for listening, and as always, please do let me know if the information I share today helps you navigate these particularly challenging and ever-changing times we find ourselves in right now.
| 196: How to Sell With Love (and Love Doing It), with Jason Marc Campbell | 07 Oct 2021 | 00:48:46 | |
Thank you for listening to our Finding Brave show, ranked in the Top 100 Apple Career Podcasts! "There are things you want for yourself. You do deserve abundance, and if you're selling in this way while caring about the impact [you're making], you should be the one that attracts the most energy. This energy can be in the form of money, or whatever currency is most valuable to you." - Jason Marc Campbell What emotions emerge for you when you hear the words "sales" or "selling" or when you think of having to engage in sales for your own business or services? The act of selling often has a poor reputation, but the people who lose most from this mindset are good folks selling great products and services. Today's Finding Brave expert guest helps us fundamentally shift the way we view sales by approaching the process with love, which will allow you to generate more sales than you ever thought possible, in ways that feel authentic and right to you. Jason Marc Campbell is the author of the upcoming book on Selling with Love. He interviews thought leaders from around the world on topics of leadership, team building, communication, productivity and more. He is a public speaker who's shared the stage with the likes of Gary V, Jason Silva, Vishen Lakhiani, Lisa Nichols and more. Jason is also the host of The Superhumans at Work Podcast from Mindvalley, which I've had the great pleasure of joining. His mission is all about teaching companies to care more. As businesses have so much power in our world, if we can educate businesses and business leaders to take on more responsibility on how they sell, how they market, how they treat their employees and how they invest their money, we start shifting the planet to a better place for all. In this episode, Jason reveals the real reasons why most of us have resistance to selling, and how to remove those blocks once and for all. As he shares, once you identify and understand the 5 loves of selling, it will fundamentally shift how you view this topic forever. | 195: How to Forgive Someone When You Feel You Can't, with Dr. Fred Luskin | 30 Sep 2021 | 00:31:49
Thank you for listening to our Finding Brave show, ranked in the Top 100 Apple Career Podcasts! "The process of making peace is forgiveness. It's perfectly ok to be angry, and it's perfectly helpful to become bitter, protective, and even depressed for a bit, because we're overwhelmed and we can't take in this information." - Dr. Fred Luskin Forgiving others is not easy to do, and forgiveness is often misunderstood as letting those who have wronged us off the hook without any consequences. But on today's Finding Brave show, our guest explains why we need to forgive others, and how we can learn to do it, in order to free ourselves from the fear, shame and lack of confidence that so many of us continue to experience when we cannot forgive. It's all about healing and empowering ourselves to release our experience as "victim" and finally becoming freer to create life as we truly want it, rather than staying stuck in a prison of long-held grudges and desperately-wanted retribution. A top expert on forgiveness, Dr. Fred Luskin is the director of the Stanford University Forgiveness Projects, a senior consultant in wellness and health promotion at Stanford University, and a professor at the Institute for Transpersonal Psychology, as well as an affiliate faculty member of the Greater Good Science Center. He serves as department chair of the PsyD program at Sofia University and is the author of the bestselling titles Forgive for Good, and Forgive for Love. His research interests are in stress management, emotional intelligence, positive psychology, forgiveness and wellness.e, career and relationships, both at work and at home. In this episode, Fred looks at the most common things that hold us back from the act and process of forgiving, as well as provides powerful strategies and tips to help us forgive what we may have previously found "unforgivable." As he shares, when you learn to forgive for good, it changes you for good (and for the better). To learn more about today's guest, visit: https://learningtoforgive.com/ Become a Sponsor! Thank you for listening to our Finding Brave show, ranked in the Top 100 Apple Career Podcasts! "One of the things that haunts a lot of us is FOMO, and this is a challenge. It's the fear of missing out. I think many folks would like to be committing to a long-term vision, but there's often a lot of shiny objects along the way." - Dorie Clark It's no secret that we're pushed to the limit. Today's professionals feel rushed, overwhelmed, and perennially behind. How can we break out of this endless cycle and create the kind of interesting, meaningful lives we all seek? Today's Finding Brave guest is returning to the podcast to discuss her latest book, and what we can achieve by being a long-term thinker in a short-term world. Dorie Clark is the author of the new book The Long Game: How to Be a Long-Term Thinker in a Short-Term World, and is a professor at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business, and a Harvard Business Review author. She is ranked #1 Communication Coach in the World by the Marshall Goldsmith Coaching Leading Global Coaches Awards, and named one of the Top 50 Business Thinkers in the World by Thinkers50. Dorie is also the author of Reinventing You, Stand Out and Entrepreneurial You, which Inc. magazine declared the #1 Leadership Book of 2015 and Forbes named it one of the Top 10 Business Books of the Year. She also invests in Broadway productions, and is a lyricist in BMI's Tony-Award winning Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Advanced Workshop. In this episode, Dorie reveals how we can break out of our every day cycles in order to lead more interesting lives, the ways we can each create a "life portfolio" while building strategic patience, and the extraordinary ways that these powerful strategies can better our lives. | 193: Using a "Flux" Mindset To Better Navigate The Future, with April Rinne | 16 Sep 2021 | 00:53:27
Thank you for listening to our Finding Brave show, ranked in the Top 100 Apple Career Podcasts! "If the pace of change is ever faster, ever faster, ever faster, and we already feel like we don't have enough time to keep up or we are overwhelmed or we're not able to show up fully, then we need a big reset because the future does not play out well if we continue to buy into not just what society says, but also what this pace of change is doing." - April Rinne With the amount of change happening daily in workplaces around the globe, adopting the right mindset can be key for employees, managers and leaders alike. Today's Finding Brave guest breaks down the concept of having a "Flux Mindset," which helps individuals and organizations consistently view change as an opportunity, not a threat, by being clear and grounded in their values. Ranked one of the world's "50 Leading Female Futurists" by Forbes, April Rinne is a change navigator: she helps individuals and organizations rethink and reshape their relationship with change, uncertainty, and a world in flux. A World Economic Forum Young Global Leader, she is a trusted advisor to organizations ranging from Airbnb, Nike, Intuit, the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, NESTA, Trōv, AnyRoad, and Unsettled, as well as governments spanning Singapore to South Africa, Canada to Colombia, Italy to India. April is the author of Flux: 8 Superpowers for Thriving in Constant Change on shelves now. A graduate of Harvard Law School, April is a futurist, advisor, global development executive, microfinance lawyer, investor, mental health advocate, certified yoga teacher, globetrotter (100+ countries), and insatiable handstander. She also harnesses very personal experiences with flux, including the death of both of her parents in a car accident when she was 20. Through her travels and tragedy, vision and values, global perspective and grounded sense of purpose, April helps others better understand how we see, think about, struggle with, and ultimately forge positive relationships with change. In this episode, April shows the tremendous benefits you can realize by rethinking and reshaping your relationship with change and uncertainty. Once you understand what change is and learn how to embrace it, opportunities will begin to appear and allow you to be more prepared for the future, whatever comes your way. Thank you for listening to our Finding Brave show, ranked in the Top 100 Apple Career Podcasts! "I don't think that anybody should tell you how to run the race, until they've crossed the finish line. There is something about having a mess, but the biggest thing is that if you're going to have this mess, you've got to cross the finish line before you make it a message." - Anthony Trucks Have you set out down a path to acquire things, attain skills and check off accomplishments, only to wind up overwhelmed, stuck or stagnant in the process? | 191: Listener Favorite Summer Pick: Ensuring Your Best Days Are Ahead, Not Behind You, with Antonio Neves | 02 Sep 2021 | 00:38:41
Thank you for listening to our Finding Brave show, ranked in the Top 100 Apple Career Podcasts! This August, I'm delighted to bring you several of our top "listener favorites" episodes from the past year of shows. Today's episode originally aired on April 23rd, 2020. Hope you enjoy them! "I do want us to think bigger, and the whole mindset of "the best thing" is living each day to the max because we woke up and because we are here. Indeed, if I am here today, I truly do believe the best thing is ahead of me. - Antonio Neves Today, I'm sharing an exploration with you of my own belief, and my guest's as well, that the best thing to ever happen to you continues to be ahead of you, not behind you. Back in 2016, my Finding Brave guest reached a point where even though the internet, social media, and his resume said he was "successful," he was in a deep funk in his personal and business life. In this episode, he reveals how he set out to course correct and to ensure that his best days were always going to be ahead and not behind him. Antonio Neves teaches powerful principles and actionable strategies to ensure that how you live your life every day, and the mindsets and behaviors you embrace, will leverage all that you've experienced and learned, and set you up to continue to thrive at your highest level. Antonio is the author of four books including, Stop Living On Autopilot: Take Responsibility for Your Life and Rediscover a Bolder, Happier You. On his podcast The Best Thing, Antonio talks with leaders about the "best thing" to happen to them that would never appear on a resume. Antonio's speaking audiences over the years have included: Google, Amazon, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Visa, Stanford University and scores more. For over 10 years, Antonio worked as a correspondent in New York City with top television networks including NBC, PBS and BET Networks. Antonio has been featured on the TODAY Show and his advice and opinions regularly appear in Inc.com, Thrive Global, TheMuse.com, and more. As Antonio shares, you do indeed have a say in your life, but you must take full responsibility for where you are today. If you focus on being of service to others, and don't overly attach to specific outcomes and remember to reach out and not do it alone, you can accomplish anything of significance that you put your mind to. | 190: Listener Favorite Summer Pick: Free Audio Chapter 6 of The Most Powerful You: Losing Sight of Your Thrilling Dream for Your Life | 26 Aug 2021 | 00:53:44
Thank you for listening to our Finding Brave show, ranked in the Top 100 Apple Career Podcasts! This August, I'm delighted to bring you several of our top "listener favorites" episodes from the past year of shows. Today's solo episode originally aired on July 23rd, 2020. Hope you enjoy them! "For those who've sold their soul for money, their professional lives can be extremely painful, crushing and in fact, unsustainable because they've unconsciously chosen to walk away from the exciting dreams for their lives that would bring fulfillment, internal reward and a sense of purpose." - Kathy Caprino In this episode of Finding Brave I share the audio version of Chapter 6 of my latest book, The Most Powerful You: 7 Bravery-Boosting Paths to Career Bliss. This chapter is very close to my heart, as it explores the damaging power gap of losing sight of your thrilling dream for your life, which I've lived through, and it can be a crushing experience. This is something that has not only impacted me, but countless others in the pursuit of "success" and "safety" in their careers and professional lives. Things will happen to each of us that derail our dreams, and often you'll take a direction that you think is right for you, but it ends up being the wrong path. It's a universal experience -- that what we once believed was possible and desirable can change, and we have to change as a result. If you don't want to wake up unhappy years from now, you have to accept this fact and realize that you alone are responsible for how you respond to the life that's before you, and to the challenges and hardships that you've faced. You alone have the power to shape your future, and now is the time to choose your own way in pursuit of the life you want to live and the mark you want to make in the world.

It creates a pathway to opportunity at scale." — Jon Lyndon [0:05:01] "When we are sharing facts and stories, and things that we've accomplished — if we have an outcome that we want to come from that, it helps us be authentic, and it helps us to be confident about those things because it leads into something rather than just sharing to share." — Jon Lyndon [0:18:33] "When you begin to share those in the right way, other people then attach to those things, and they're relevant because they say, 'Oh, I didn't know that about you, but this applies [to] my life because I'm going through this as well.'" — Jon Lyndon [0:19:14] "You never know when [LinkedIn] might become relevant, it might not be a layoff, but you might want to start a new business." — Jon Lyndon [0:22:59] "If you're working in corporate and you're trying to sell products and services, there [are] ways that you can do it in a human, authentic, thought leader way that is still pretty much an untapped opportunity on LinkedIn for a lot of people." — Jon Lyndon [0:43:43] "If you know the outcomes, and you're clear about what they are in any area of your life, then creating the pathway to get there becomes so much easier." — Jon Lyndon [0:50:18]

| 189: Listener Favorite Summer Pick: 5 Things I Wish I Knew Before Leaving Corporate and Launching My Business | 19 Aug 2021 | 00:39:56 | |
Thank you for listening to our Finding Brave show, ranked in the Top 100 Apple Career Podcasts! This August, I'm delighted to bring you several of our top "listener favorites" episodes from the past year of shows. Today's solo episode originally aired on June 27th, 2019. Hope you enjoy them! "I know it's scary to make the move from corporate life into your own business and you feel like you don't know enough, but I'm going to ask you to really listen to yourself. You know a heck of a lot more than you think you do." - Kathy Caprino Are you ready to finally leave your corporate career and start your own venture? Or perhaps you have launched your business already and are facing important new challenges that you wonder if you're adequately prepared for. In this episode, I discuss why so many small businesses fail and share my raw, real-life experiences around what I learned in transitioning from my 18-year corporate career to running my own coaching and consulting business, Kathy Caprino, LLC. You'll hear about the biggest gaps in knowledge and experience that kept me from having a smoother transition, and I offer some essential information that I wish I had understood before making the leap. The biggest surprise for me in running a business was that even though I had been in marketing for years and had risen to the level of Vice President overseeing numerous large-scale programs, initiatives and staff in my corporate life, I still was very far away from being fully prepared for entrepreneurial life, and for serving as a true leader in my own venture. The key knowledge gaps I explore here include: 1) Unconscious tendencies and blocks around successfully managing and relating to money, 2) Not selecting the best partners and why we often continually fail at it, 3) Why we need to step up to being a true leader and making critical decisions rather than staying stuck as the "doer" or "manager," 4) Why pivoting more quickly and flexibly is essential, and 5) Listening to your own instincts and intuition and making moves that align with your truest core values and visions rather than deferring to "gurus" who don't necessarily know their stuff or have your best interests at heart.

| 186: How to Have Those Difficult But Crucial Conversations With Friends and Colleagues, with Joseph Grenny | 29 Jul 2021 | 00:37:04 | |
Thank you for listening to our Finding Brave show, ranked in the Top 100 Apple Career Podcasts! "The goal of the conversation is not to convince. It's not to compel, and it's not to control. It's not to try to get the other person to think something different. As soon as we believe somebody is trying to control us in that kind of way, we resist. So the very effort to convince, it makes you less convincing." - Joseph Grenny Contrary to how many people feel in our world today, it is possible to tell the truth and avoid alienating a friend or colleague or engendering terrible and painful conflict. With so much distrust among family, friends, colleagues and our leaders, it's vital to not to take the two standard approaches - being silent or violent -- on core issues but instead learn the essential skills behind expressing yourself candidly yet cordially. Today's Finding Brave expert guest reveals how it's not having different opinions that's the problem in our conflicts, rather it's how and why we express those opinions, and the approach we take before even entering the conversation. Joseph Grenny is a four-time New York Times bestselling author, dynamic keynote speaker, and leading social scientist for business performance. Joseph has spoken at some of the world's premier leadership conferences. His books have been translated into 28 languages, are available in 36 countries, and have generated results for 300 of the Fortune 500. I had the honor of interviewing Joseph and David Maxfield in my Forbes blog in 2015 in a piece on Gender Bias Is Real: Women's Perceived Competency Drops Significantly When Judged as Being Forceful, on their groundbreaking research on gender bias, and I've often quoted the information that their research uncovered that proved gender bias is not imagined, it's real - and their research showed on how women's perceived competency and perceived worth drops exponentially more than men's when they are are perceived as forceful or assertive. I've featured their work in my TEDx talk Time to Brave Up, and in my new book The Most Powerful You and my Most Powerful You Course which is why I'm so excited to speak with Joseph today and bring you his expert insights and perspectives on navigating crucial conversations. Thank you for listening to our Finding Brave show, ranked in the Top 100 Apple Career Podcasts! "In my work as an entrepreneur, and later an academic, [I have seen that] the most purpose-driven, successful and inspiring people seem to have something in common, which is that they intuitively cultivate serendipity. They somehow see something in the unexpected and then turn that into positive outcomes." - Christian Busch Have you ever seen someone who has achieved success and wondered how that person has done it, or what his or her "secret" was? Today's Finding Brave guest shares his personal story and findings in studying the topics of luck and serendipity, along with the ways that each of us can start cultivating serendipity in our own lives and organizations. | 184: Part 2: How to Let Go of Your Business The Right Way When It's Time to Sell, with Denise Logan | 15 Jul 2021 | 00:31:18
Thank you for listening to our Finding Brave show, ranked in the Top 100 Apple Career Podcasts! "Whether we are retiring, selling a business, or we can no longer work because of an illness or caring for a family member, we will all leave our work. So how are we preparing for this transition, just like we prepare our children to transition into their careers?" - Denise Logan In last week's episode I welcomed an expert guest to talk about the issues often faced by business owners looking to sell their businesses, and what struggles they often face as they prepare for this life-changing transition. The conversation was such a riveting one (and I was learning so much!), that we decided to make it a special two-part episode, with the conclusion airing today. Denise Logan knows that to business owners, selling a business is more than a transaction. To them, it is often an emotionally fraught period of transition, filled with unexpected highs and lows, with no clear vision of what waits at the end for them and their family. Her passion for this work is colored by her own experience of being an unprepared business owner who made an abrupt and choppy exit from her company, after ignoring the signs that it was time for several years. She is the author of The Seller's Journey: A Business Fable about Navigating the Emotional Obstacles to Selling Your Business, and has addressed more than five hundred audiences on three continents about the psychology of business owners and how to make it easier when the time comes to let go. As a business owner myself, I can relate deeply to everything Denise shares, including issues around our own self-identity and how we focused our time and energy, and what happens to our sense of purpose, meaning and identity as human beings as we consider letting go of the work we've done for years that has brought us great fulfillment and joy. Whatever situation you find yourself in, whether as a business owner or employee looking to make a transition to a new role, you are sure to get value from the wisdom Denise shares today, and in last week's episode. | 183: Part 1: How to Let Go of Your Business The Right Way When It's Time to Sell | 08 Jul 2021 | 00:24:07
Thank you for listening to our Finding Brave show, ranked in the Top 100 Apple Career Podcasts! "Who was I if I didn't own that business? Who else could I be? Business owners, as they're preparing to exit their business, are struggling with that same issue. Who are they if they aren't the owner of this business?" - Denise Logan As a business owner, have you ever stopped to ask yourself what's next? Every one of us will eventually leave our work, voluntarily or involuntarily, and the key to a successful exit is about having a compelling future that is calling you toward it. Today's Finding Brave guest has spent the last decade working with business owners and professionals who are serving business owners, to help them understand what struggles will be faced when it is time for an owner to transition out of his or her business. Denise Logan knows that to business owners, selling a business is more than a transaction. To them, it is an emotionally fraught period of transition, filled with unexpected highs and lows, with no clear vision of what waits at the end for them and their family. In this first part of my conversation with Denise (Part 2 airs on July 15th, 2021), she reveals how selling a business is a transition, and not just a transaction. When it's treated this way all parties win, and the business can be successfully transitioned to its new owners. Most importantly, this can be done without regret. I invite you to join us next week as Denise dives deeper into this fascinating topic that is so important for every single business owner to be thinking about right now. Thank you for listening to our Finding Brave show, ranked in the Top 100 Apple Career Podcasts! "Once you're in the real world, there's so much ambiguity. There's so much less structure, and as a result it's not necessarily about keeping up, but it's about stepping up. It's about navigating this wilderness expedition that is our career." - Gorick Ng In today's workplace, there are many "unspoken rules" that aren't spelled out clearly but early career professionals need to understand and navigate through them to set themselves up for great success. Although these rules may appear to be common sense, or known by everyone, in reality they may not be understood or even be in the consciousness of the people who would benefit most by applying them. And they most likely will ever be articulated verbally by your manager. Today's guest -- with an inspiring backstory that demonstrates why he's passionate about this topic -- reveals what these unspoken rules are and how they can be used. His messages will not only benefit recent grads, but also all contributors, leaders and managers in any organization. Gorick Ng is the Wall Street Journal bestselling author of The Unspoken Rules: Secrets to Starting Your Career Off Right, a terrific new book published by Harvard Business Review Press. It is a practical guide to help early career professionals become top performers at work and create work that is fulfilling and rewarding, based on 500+ interviews with professionals across geographies, industries, and job types. Gorick's book is quickly becoming required reading for students, interns, employees, and managers across Fortune 500 companies, non-profits, and educational institutions around the world. And this year, Harvard Business School gave Gorick's book to every MBA student to give them an edge in their internships and full-time jobs. Gorick is a career adviser at Harvard College, specializing in coaching first-generation, low-income students. He has managed new employees at Boston Consulting Group, worked in investment banking at Credit Suisse, and is also a researcher with the Managing the Future of Work project at Harvard Business School. Thank you for listening to our Finding Brave show, ranked in the Top 100 Apple Career Podcasts! "Are you keeping your eyes on what you need to accomplish, or are you looking at what somebody else is accomplishing? It is super important to know what you own, know who you are, and what you want out of life. If you don't, someone else will write it for you." - Sumana Rajagopal If you have been given the opportunity to lead, then you know that every employee offers unique contributions, including yourself. When you start with the good and foster the natural talent in people, you build trust and that trust opens the door to start talking about opportunities to grow. Today's Finding Brave guest is a role model that all inspiring leaders can look up to, as she's made a career of practicing these principles every single day. Sumana Rajagopal recently returned to the place she credits with learning what it means to put people first. She is fortunate to have found her calling in media and advertising and is able to put that passion into purpose at Merck Pharmaceuticals. It was there that she found that fostering her own growth included managing employee development to create sustainable business growth and drive competitive advantage in a corporate environment. Thank you for listening to our Finding Brave show, ranked in the Top 100 Apple Career Podcasts! "There is this balance between building that world-class network in record time, doing this as quickly as possible to accomplish your goals, helping your clients more or bring your vision to life, and also the fact that we are playing a very long game. Some of the people that you're making friendships with now may benefit you in 10 or 20 years, and you have no idea how they're going to support you or how you're going to support them in the future." - Jared Kleinert Networking is a process of true engagement with others that is critical to our success that I talk about often, and today's Finding Brave guest truly embodies this skill. If you've ever wanted to improve your networking skills to not only help in the attainment of your own goals, but to assist others in achieving their desires, there are unspoken rules you must be aware of. In this episode, our guest reveals these rules and gives you the tools that will help you become a true "super connector." Jared Kleinert is a TED speaker, award-winning author, and USA Today's "Most Connected Millennial." He's the co-founder of a new startup called Offsite and author of the new book How To Build A World Class Network In Record Time. As Jared shares, ultimately becoming a super connector is about doing the important inner work that we all need to do on a regular basis. We encourage you to start working on building your support network today, but don't get discouraged or take it personally if at first you don't get the results you were hoping for or expecting. If you detach from the outcome and give it your best effort, in the long run both you, and the people in your network, will benefit greatly. We're social creatures, and from the minute that we're born we come out of the womb really looking to our mothers for cues about what's important." - Luke Burgis Mimetic desire -- the act of desiring simply what others desire - imitating what other people want instead of developing our own intentional, conscious wanting - is a powerful force in our development, our world and in our everyday lives. Today's Finding Brave guest shares his expertise about this concept of desire and why it's critically important to identify and pursue your own unique and personalized desires with more intention and clarity, and to ground yourself in the values that matter most to you personally -- those "thick desires" and relationships -- that will endure and truly enrich your life. Luke Burgis is the Director of Programs at the Ciocca Center for Principled Entrepreneurship and a professor of business at The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. He co-teaches a popular class for all incoming students there called "The Vocation of Business," an anthropological investigation into the purpose and meaning of business itself. Luke has been the founder and CEO of multiple social impact companies. He was named one of the "Top 25 Entrepreneurs Under 25" by BusinessWeek after the early success of one of his first companies, Healthy Vending, which revolutionized the vending industry in 2005. His other ventures have all tried to contribute to what Luke calls a healthy "human ecology." He is currently the Founder & Managing Partner of an organization called Fourth Wall Ventures that invests in, incubates, and advises companies that do the same. Luke's first book, Unrepeatable, explored how people can discover and live out their unique purpose in the world, and help others do the same. His latest book, Wanting, is about human desire itself—why people come to want the things that they want, and how we can build a better future by understanding the process through which desires are generated and shaped. In this episode, Luke reveals why people that have the happiest, most meaningful, fulfilling and productive lives are not the ones that pursue someone else's idea of what we should be producing. Also, if we can help others flourish for who they really are, it will lead to a much different and better world for everyone. To learn more about today's guest, visit: https://lukeburgis.com/
