Surprise reunion episode! Lukas rejoins Marco for the first time in a long time for a pod in a pod in a hostel in Ljubljana. Lukas recounts his time covering the EuroBasket Women 2023 before the pair delve into a recap of the 2023 NBA playoffs, the WNBA season so far, and discuss the Washington Wizards' recent trades moving on Bradley Beal and Kristaps Porzingis, finally committing to a true rebuild.

It's a JVG All Stars episode with frequent collaborators Alessio Conte and Sam Reeves joining Marco for a bonanza NBA Finals discussion. We discuss Denver's strongest showing in Game 3, Jamal Murray finding his strongest form once again, Jokic breaking the game, Jimmy Butler undershowing and what Miami could possibly do to turn the series around from here. Then, Zion Williamson is in the news after a baby announcement went awry, revealing a slew of former scorned mistresses airing his dirty laundry on Twitter. We discuss what this says about his focus and commitment to returning from injury.

Alessio is DNP-Illness so once again the infamous Sammy Splash joins the pod, and what better time than at the tailend of a disastrous Conference Finals showing for the Boston Celtics. We dissect what went wrong in the series against Miami, ask whether these problems were there earlier in the season, and discuss just how good the Heat have been. Then, the Denver Nuggets swept the Los Angeles Lakers in what was both a surprise and an expected result – we look at how good this Denver team is and how they match up against the Heat. Finally, the WNBA season has kicked off and we share some of our early thoughts from the first few games of the season, including a misfire start for the New York Liberty, a blowout win for the Las Vegas Aces and the return of Brittney Griner.

It's a classic melding of minds as Sean and Dante of The Deep Two NBA Podcast join Marco and Alessio to discuss the beginning of the 2023 NBA Conference Finals. First, we gloat a little bit at Golden State fan Sean's unbelievable confidence that his Warriors would make the CFs, before looking at what the Warriors should do moving forward to keep their dynasty alive. Then, a look at the first two games of the round: Miami look legit in a professional dispatchment of the Boston Celtics, and the Lakers poured everything into Game 1 but just came short of beating the Denver Nuggets, even after an incredible in game adjustment by Darvin Ham to lock Nikola Jokic out of the offence. Finally, the San Antonio Spurs have won the Victor Wembanyama sweepstakes (I'm not capitulating to the NBA's PR team) – could the result have been any better, and what do the other high-lottery winners do with the scraps?

Alessio Conte is of course back in the passenger/co-driver's seat to talk through the last two weeks of playoff basketball. The Los Angeles Lakers have proved more than capable of beating the Golden State Warriors, with Anthony Davis dominant and Darvin Ham successfully stifling the Warriors' offence in Game 4 before Draymond Green powered home a victory in Game 5. Can the Lakers get one more win – potentially without Davis? The Miami Heat have been one of the most consistent teams in the playoffs, throwing every defensive scheme under the sun at the New York Knicks to take the lead in the series without a true virtuoso performance from Jimmy Butler. Can Brunson and Randle make enough big shots to claw back the series? Is Miami a title contender? Plus, Boston are blowing their chances against Philadelphia thanks to a rookie head coach and Alessio apologises to the Denver Nuggets – but warns that the star power of Kevin Durant and Devin Booker could be too much in a Game 7.

April 25 was a huge day in Australia for sports, with two nailbiting NBA playoff games including an all-time performance from Jimmy Butler followed by an unforgettable Anzac Day AFL clash. Alessio joins Marco to talk about their poor Bombers and their top-rate chokejob against Collingwood. Then, to the NBA where the Golden State Warriors have broken home court in Game 5 against the Sacramento Kings – can the reigning champs capitalise on a markedly-better two game performance to clinch the series? Then, the Milwaukee Bucks have engineered their very own all-time chokejob at the mercy of two monster performances from Jimmy Butler. And finally, the Los Angeles Lakers have the upperhand against the Memphis Grizzlies, and how it looks like the rest of the playoffs is going to shape up, including Alessio asking his favourite question: "Is everyone just shit?"

Alessio takes a much needed break to prepare for his engagement party, so Boston Celtics superfan Sam Reeves joins the rotating van Gundy chair. He and Marco discuss Boston's fantastic season, then dive into a look at the first few games of the 2023 NBA playoffs and the serieses ahead. Can the Kings maintain their 2-0 lead over the Warriors as the series goes to San Francisco? How do the Suns regroup and gain control over the Clippers? Will anything break the knife's edge between the Cavaliers and the Knicks? Can the Bucks win a series without Giannis? Is it worth the Timberwovles even playing their next three games against the Nuggets?

The 2022-23 NBA regular season has come to a close with a typically crazy and annoying final day. Alessio Conte joins Marco once again, talking through their picks for the end-of-season awards with no disagreement and few surprises. Will Nikola Jokic's once-again revolutionary season be able to edge out the scoring and success of Joel Embiid and Giannis Antetokounmpo? Were there any good rookies apart from Paolo Banchero? Then, a discussion of the punches at the Smoothie King Center, first Rudy Gobert's explosive outburst that says a lot about the chemistry in Minnesota and then Jaden McDaniels' that could end the Timberwolves' playoff hopes. Alessio returns for his second episode in the cohost chair, and there's a lot to talk about! First, the final of the women's NCAA basketball drew 9.9 million fans, and all anyone can seem to talk about is Angel Reese's harmless trash talking. We talk about what more women can do in sports to get their due and why the reaction to Reese and tournament favourite Caitlin Clark reveals so much about the sports-viewing public. Then, the NBA and the NBPA have agreed on a new collective bargaining agreement – we talk through the new second tax apron, how it hamstrings teams that spend and how it could improve league parity (or not). Finally, it's another look at the playoffs around the corner as we predict how each team would go depending on the very uncertain seeding and the results of the play-in, and a quick mention of rumours the Dallas Mavericks will shut down Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving for the rest of the season.

The first episode of the Alessio Conte era starts with a bang! Marco and his new cohost talk about the sorrows in Dallas, a team that have struggled greatly since their trade for Kyrie Irving culminating in back-to-back losses to the Charlotte Hornets. We talk about Luke and Kyrie's fit (or lack thereof), why their personalities are at odds with creating any chemistry, what mistakes the Mavericks have already made and what they could possibly do to get themselves out of this hole. Then, we continue our discussion on the parity of play in the league, and what that could mean for the playoffs. It's a jam-packed episode for Lukas and Marco taking you around the league – and the world! First off the bat: young star Ja Morant is in a world of trouble after a questionable string of behaviour – why on Earth would one of the league's most recognisable names do that, and how do he and the Grizzlies turn the situation around? It's been a week of flamethrower offence in the NBA, with Damian Lillard dropping 71 points on the air-tight defence of the Houston Rockets, and the Clippers and the Kings trading blows for the second-higest combined score in league history. Lukas and Marco break down these two games and how they might be indicators for how league offences will trend in the future, and how defences will adjust to counteract it. Plus: a look at the 2004 expansion draft and what LeBron's latest injury means for the surging Los Angeles Lakers.

The 2023 NBA All-Star Weekend has been and gone, and Lukas and Marco are once again not too impressed, talking through the surprising highs of the Dunk Contest and the unsurprising lows of the game itself. Then, more WNBA free agency talk! Does Marina Mabrey's move to Chicago strengthen the Sky enough for them to contend? The gang is back together in Phoenix, but how good will Diana Taurasi be in year 19 and how will Brittney Griner return to playing professional basketball? Plus, two Australians in Anneli Maley and Jade Melbourne get their shot in the W, and Marco forgets Cayla George's name.

The 2023 NBA trade deadline has been and gone, and may have been one of the most seismic yet. With Lukas giving his immediate reaction to the deals over on The Deep Two NBA Podcast, he and Marco instead look at how each move has opened, closed, extended or shortened each NBA team's championship window. The move for Kevin Durant puts the Suns in immediate championship contention, but for how long? The Nets have every pick and roleplayer under the sun (ha), but how do they leverage that into a contending team? Was Jakob Poetl a mistake? How much does Josh Richardson move the needle?

Just two days after requesting a trade, Kyrie Irving has found himself moved away from the Brooklyn Nets to join Luka Doncic with the Dallas Mavericks as part of a deal that sees Spencer Dinwiddie and Dorian Finney-Smith join Brooklyn. Lukas and Marco discuss the fit for both sides, how far this Nets team can go with a new band of roleplayers, and the deal-with-the-devil you make when you hire Kyrie Irving. Then, it's back to the W for another round of free agency movies. Breanna Stewart and Courtney Vandersloot round out the super team in New York, Australian Cayla George joins the Aces as their big depth, and the Los Angeles Sparks make some moves to be the WNBA's third best roster.

It's a bumper time of year, with one of the most active WNBA free agencies in recent memory coinciding with the looming NBA tradeline. Lukas and Marco look at some of the first big moves, including Candace Parker's league-breaking signing with the Las Vegas Aces, then look ahead to some of the potential destinations for players like Breanna Stewart and Courtney Vandersloot. Then, the boys discuss some of the trade packages that NBA teams looking to buy at the deadline could put up.

We tip off with a lovely recount from Lukas of his time at the Boombox – a recent WNBL matchup between the Melbourne Boomers and the Bendigo Spirit. Then, Rui Hachimura is on the move, clearing the logjam at Washington's forward spot for brighter pastures with the Los Angeles Lakers. The boys discuss how he'll look in the new environment, how this (doesn't) move the needle for LA, and how this fits into the Wizards' plan going forward. Finally, we dive into two of the teams that should be good but are currently floating around the 12-seed in their respective conferences. Can the Portland Trailblazers make a deadline move to salvage their season and Dame's career? Have things grown stale in Toronto, and are the Raptors in need of an overhaul or just one true superstar?

The first drop in the WNBA free agency bucket has landed, kickstarting a preseason that will shake up the league! But first, Marco and Lukas talk about how they would shake up their neighbourhood in a "The Purge"/"Groundhog Day"-type situation. Then, Jonquel Jones' not-so-shock move to the New York Liberty makes the Liberty immediate contenders, especially if they can land Breanna Stewart in free agency, but does it spell the end for this Connecticut Sun dynasty or another shot with a more-aligned roster? Finally, with the 2023 NBA All Star Weekend sort of around the corner the boys give their picks, both who they would vote for and who they would have if there weren't position requirements, and then talk through some of the other perimeter candidates for a starting five spot.

It's time for some more serious basketball talk, but of course a bit of silliness to start the episode: Lukas and Marco open with a nice discussion of who is leading the league in heaves and heaves made. Then, a look at some of the classic teams who are flying a bit under the radar. The Philadelphia 76ers are putting together a nice run of form behind an MVP calibre season from Joel Embiid (again), but is it enough to beat the best in the playoffs? The Brooklyn Nets are the league's best since sacking Steve Nash, but can they survive a few weeks without Kevin Durant? And the Los Angeles Lakers have managed to go unmentioned for a record amount of time on the JVG NBA Tribute Show – is their recent purple patch nothing more than a patch, or can they turn it into real playoff basketball? Plus, the Washington Wizards and the New Orleans Pelicans square off in an intra-podcast showdown.

The boys have had a trying late December/early January and so are a bit worse for wear on the mic this week (Marco tested positive for COVID about an hour after recording). They go through all the stellar performances from the NBA's greatest in recent weeks, including Donovan Mitchell's 71 points against Chicago and Luka Doncic's 60 point-21 rebound tripe double. Then, the league's cup runneth over with MVP-worthy players and an examination of the 2005-06 NBA season as things get a bit less lucid.

It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas! Sean Carroll of The Deep Two and friend of the pod Alessio Conte join the boys around the open fire to celebrate the holiday season, starting with the the culmination of the miniseries between the Phoenix Suns and the New Orleans Pelicans and Devin Booker's 58 point haul. Then, it's time for a look at the boys' Christmas wishlists. There's something from Marco for Devonte' Graham, something from Sean for James Wiseman, and something from Lukas for Deni Avdija – but why on Earth does naughty Alessio want the Sacramento Kings to go on a losing streak?

After ten months in detention, Brittney Griner has finally been released from Russian custody and returned home to the US. Lukas and Marco talk the final deal, put the issue to bed and discuss a possible WNBA comeback. The NBA has made the odd decision that nobody asked for to name its end-of-season awards after various players – why? Zion pisses of the Suns with a late game windmill – we take a look at the seven-game winning streak that saw the New Orleans Pelicans fly to the top of the West. And finally Kyle Kuzma wants out in Washington, so we talk through some potential destinations for Kuzma and why Washington needs to make a decision on its future now.

It's that wonderful time of the year! Marco and Lukas sit down for the better part of two hours and nut out which tier each of the NBA's 30 teams sits in: contenders, pretenders, emerging, rebuilding and limbo. Which teams are ready for a championship? Which teams think they're ready, but really aren't? Which teams might be ready in five years? Ten years? Which teams have no idea?

After what felt like some positive signs, the situation with Brittney Griner has faded from prominence as she's finally transferred to a penal colony to begin her nine-and-a-half year sentence in Russia. Lukas and Marco check in on why there hasn't been any movement on the situation and why the proposed prisoner swap hasn't eventuated. Then, the matchup of the century – Giannis versus a ladder. The boys look at another added bit of entertainment in the NBA. And finally, it's been a while since the home teams of this podcast were checked in on, so the 10-7 Washington Wizards and the 10-7 New Orleans Pelicans are put under a microscope.

Jose Alvarado stole the league's heart (and the ball teehee) with his backcourt steal move during the 2021-22 regular season and the New Orleans Pelicans' first-round playoff series against the Phoenix Suns. But has he gone too far? Marco and Lukas discuss GTA's late game move on Kevin Porter Jr and the pair's subsequent ejection, and take a look at where the Houston Rockets are going this season with an explosive but immature backcourt helmed by KPJ and Jalen Green. Then, Phoenix is looking for destinations for Jae Crowder: the boys talk through a couple possible scenarios, including an intriguing three-way with Miami and Washington.

The situation in Brooklyn is doing everything it can to get worse and worse by the day. Concurrently with Kyrie Irving's anti-Semitic remarks and suspension, the Nets have fired coach Steve Nash and indicated they'll pursue Ime Udoka – the same coach suspended for a season for improper conduct by the Boston Celtics. Lukas and Marco take a look at the broader picture in Brooklyn, the decisions that led to this situation, Ben Simmons' play in the early season and what can be done next to pull them out of the mire. Then, Kawhi Leonard is back out "indefinitely" as the Clippers' on-court product flags, the WNBL season gets under way, and the Sacramento Kings are left at the mercy of yet another Last Two Minutes report.

The boys are a teeeeeny bit hungover this week but where there's a will, there's a way, and also an hour of up-to-the-minute basketball talk. Lukas and Marco take a look at the three teams involved in the trades for Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell and how they're faring in the early weeks of the season. Is the Utah Jazz's success real, and could it be getting in the way of a true rebuild? How have the Cleveland Cavaliers meshed so easily, and what will they look like when Darius Garland returns? And can the Minnesota Timberwolves make their Twin Towers lineup (and the rest of their roster) work? Then, Myles Turner tells the Los Angeles Lakers they should trade for him on The Woj Pod. What would this trade mean for LA, but more importantly how is the media today complicit in the NBA's trade merry-go-round?

Angus Ryan joins Lukas and Marco once again to go through their way-too-early hot takes and overreactions to the nascent 2022-23 NBA season. The boys talk you through their 7 locks for the playoffs in the each conference, the 4 teams they're sure will finish bottom and the 4 in between that will fight for play-in contention – and relevancy.

Our media accredited sideline reporter for the Women's Basketball World Cup takes us through a week at a FIBA event. No hot takes in this one, no takes of any temperature for that matter, just transparency on Lukas' experience of the event. In his time at the Cup, Lukas had the chance to interview a few professional basketball players, all of whom have played in the WNBA. This episode will feature the raw audio of those interviews directly from an iPhone 6 microphone, so listeners beware! To finish, our boy gives us a few of his goals moving forward, all while highlighting how important the week was for him.

The 2022 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup has come to a close, and while another gold medal for USA was to be expected it was still a great tournament and showcase for women's basketball. Marco and Lukas have been up in Sydney covering the cup, the latter more closely than the former, and drop in here with a quick check in on the morning of the cup's semi-final games of Australia v China and USA v Canada. Lukas talks about his experience courtside in the media pack, interviewing the stars of the tournament and his read on the games that at that point had happened so far. Marco mostly drives the Toyota Estima around Central station.

The Las Vegas Aces are 2022 WNBA champions, closing out their series against the Conneticut Sun in four games in style. Marco and Lukas have a lot to be happy about this week, so they take you through their exploits, from futsal to birthdays, before recapping the final two games of the finals. Then, the men of the NBA are up to no good once again. We talk through the Robert Sarver debacle and sale of the Phoenix Sun, Ime Udoka's one-year suspension and Doc Rivers' cheeky Twitter likes.

The WNBA Finals are here! After a historic series against the Seattle Storm, the Las Vegas Aces enter the series all guns firing, while the Conneticut Sun maintain their dogged approach from their gruelling five-game win over the reigning champion Chicago Sky. Marco and Lukas discuss the Sun's tough defence in Game 1, the Aces' late game turnaround and their cruising domination in Game 2. Also, Lukas introduces a new segment: People, Dream and Insitution.

Finally, some NBA news! Marco and Lukas come together to discuss Donovan Mitchell's trade to Cleveland – how the young star will fit on the Cavaliers, where the Eastern Conference team tops out and what the future looks like for the Utah Jazz with two five-pick hauls under their belt and players still to sell. Then, the most exciting playoff game of the year: the boys recap Game 3 of the WNBA semi-final series between Las Vegas and Seattle, including the six plays in 11 seconds, Sue Bird's insane late game three and Jackie Young's clutch bucket to send it to OT.

There's no two ways about it: we just gasbag in this episode. Marco and Lukas scrape the bottom of the barrell and talk about some of the most famous NBA rules named after players, whether created to limit their game-breaking impact or to stop them from chewing plastic straws during games. The boys pay tribute to the great Bill Russell – although they don't have an emotional connection to him or a memory of him playing his unassailable success and perserverance in the face of extreme racism set the foundation for the league we love today. Then, we talk through some WNBA news, including the "lose-lose" release of Brittney Griner and Liz Cambage's contract divorce from the Los Angeles Sparks. Finally, the boys recap three recent WNBA games – Minnesota Lynx v Atlanta Dream, Washington Mystics v Dallas Wings and Connecticut Sun v Chicago Sky.

The boys then talk through how the league is sitting coming out of the All-Star break, who's likely to surge and who's likely to dip as we head towards the playoffs.

Some more sombre reporting to start this episode: Marco and Lukas talk through the beginning of Brittney Griner's trial in Russia and the various reactions to it across the Internet, as well as touch on the assault charges laid against Nick Kyrgios. Then, some reactions to some stale NBA news and transactions. What Kevin Durant trade scenarios are the most likely to happen, and what does each team look like post-trade?
