An Appeal to the World: The Way to Peace in a Time of Division by The Dalai Lama, Franz Alt

mardi 7 novembre 2017Duration 01:24:00

Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/1/audiobook/307635 to listen full audiobooks. Title: An Appeal to the World: The Way to Peace in a Time of Division Author: The Dalai Lama, Franz Alt Narrator: Edoardo Ballerini Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 1 hour 24 minutes Release date: November 7, 2017 Ratings: Ratings of Book: 3 of Total 1 Genres: World Religions Publisher's Summary: Includes exclusive bonus audio of the voice of the Dalai Lama as coauthor Franz Alt asks about his views on President Trump, the rise of nationalism, the refugee crisis, the climate catastrophe, and more. In this brief, urgent ''appeal to the world,'' His Holiness the Dalai Lama addresses our time of division, calling on us to draw upon the innate goodness of our shared humanity to overcome the rancor, mistrust, and divisiveness that threaten world peace and sustainability. ''I see with ever greater clarity that our spiritual well-being depends not on religion, but on our innate human nature, our natural affinity for goodness, compassion, and caring for others.''—from An Appeal to the World Already a major international bestseller, now available in English for the first time: In An Appeal to the World, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet illuminates the way to peace in our time, arguing for a form of universal ethics that goes beyond religion—values we all share as humans that can help us create unity and peace to heal our world. ''All people are united in the pursuit of happiness and the desire to avoid suffering,'' His Holiness reminds us. ''This is the source of humanity’s greatest achievements.'' Our development relies on cooperation, not competition. We need to begin to think and act on ''we humans''—we must stop focusing on what divides us and recognize our commonalities. Without secular ethics—what Albert Schweitzer referred to as ''reverence for life''—we cannot solve all the problems we face. Working with trusted collaborator Franz Alt, the Dalai Lama calls on the better angels of our nature to tackle a wide range of contemporary issues, from war, violence, and intolerance to climate change, global hunger, and materialism. Applying the techniques and teachings of Tibetan Buddhism—from listening and contemplation to meditation and nonviolence—His Holiness provides a roadmap forward. Brief yet profound, An Appeal to the World is an inspiring message of love and optimism that can truly change the world.

Seven Lies About Catholic History: Infamous Myths about the Church's Past and How to Answer Them by Diane Moczar

vendredi 29 septembre 2017Duration 05:03:00

Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/1/audiobook/306939 to listen full audiobooks. Title: Seven Lies About Catholic History: Infamous Myths about the Church's Past and How to Answer Them Author: Diane Moczar Narrator: Kevin F. Spalding Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 5 hours 3 minutes Release date: September 29, 2017 Ratings: Ratings of Book: 5 of Total 1 Genres: World Religions Publisher's Summary: The world hates the Church that Jesus founded, just as He said it would (John 15:18). It reviles her doctrines, mocks her moral teachings and invents lies about her history. In every age, but especially in our modern day, historians and political powers have distorted the facts about her past (or just made up novel falsehoods from scratch) to make the Church, and the civilization it fostered, seem corrupt, backward, or simply evil. In Seven Lies about Catholic History, Diane Moczar (Islam at the Gates) tackles the most infamous and prevalent historical myths about the Church - popular legends that you encounter everywhere from textbooks to TV - and reveals the real truth about them. She explains how they got started and why they're still around, and best of all, she gives you the facts and the arguments you need to set the record straight about: - The Inquisition: How it was not a bloodthirsty institution but a merciful (and necessary) one - Galileo's "Trial": Why moderns invented a myth around it to make science appear incompatible with the Catholic faith (it's not) - The Reformation: Why the 16th-century Church was not totally corrupt (as even some Catholics wrongly believe) and how the reformers made things worse for everybody - and other lies that the world uses to attack and discredit the Faith. This book provides the lessons that every Catholic needs in order to defend and explain - not just apologize for - the Church's rich and complex history.

The Ways of the Righteous by Jaffer Ladak

lundi 5 septembre 2016Duration 03:59:00

Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/1/audiobook/274721 to listen full audiobooks. Title: The Ways of the Righteous Author: Jaffer Ladak Narrator: Jaffer Ladak Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 3 hours 59 minutes Release date: September 5, 2016 Ratings: Ratings of Book: 4.5 of Total 2 Genres: World Religions Publisher's Summary: Today there is more demand for information about the activities of the scholars than at any other time in the past; there is a growing desire to interact with and learn from religious scholars. Moreover, the degree of enthusiasm and anticipation communities demonstrate when either visiting or being visited by scholars, is quite profound. Many people, however, feel distanced from Muslim scholars due to barriers of geography and language. Moreover, whilst many Muslims have heard of various scholarly figures and have even read their works or watched videos about them, the scholars are still known very superficially, as revered figures attributed to a place or to a particular family. It is due to the general lack of knowledge about the character and achievements of Muslim scholars that I decided to compile a series of insightful stories from the lives of our scholars, in an attempt to bridge the gap between the Muslim community and these great personalities. Inspired by the stories of Ayatullah Shahid Baqir al-Sadr's reaction when observing Saddam's thirsty guards (Page 56) encircling his house and that of a student asking Ayatullah Sayyid Muhammad Husayni Shirazi what he would do if he had one day left to live, (Page 72) I set about compiling stories from the various biographies and Arabic sources already in circulation. I contacted the offices of the scholars, their family members and numerous scholars from the community, requesting their personal experiences in order to collect stories directly from them and hence, this series also includes a large proportion of previously unpublished stories. Amongst the primary goals of the series is to introduce the community to contemporary or recently deceased scholars, to remove the aforementioned barriers and encourage a deeper understanding and bond with the general scholarly elite and not a particular few. Thus, whilst there are some anecdotes from scholars of early generations, I have attempted to keep the majority of the stories centred upon contemporary scholars. Due to the nature of the work and the intended audience, many of the stories have not been translated in their literal sense but rather, the translations convey the essence and objectives of the stories. An inspirational read for anyone who wants to know more about our pious scholars and how they applied their Islamic values in practice.
