This was one of the most grounded, realistic portrayals of a mother’s fear and exhaustion we’ve ever seen. It Follows (2014) has become a modern classic, and Jay has become a modern classic Final Girl. Haunted by trauma and a shapeshifting entity, Jay is not a typical Final Girl because she doesn’t get to toughen up or confront her villain.
